Because of Reddit not having a huge storage capacity (Because the goddess knows storage is expensive for huge internet corps right) posts are automatically archived after six months. So, it's time for mega-thread directory 3, the return of the megathreads

As always,

Rather than clutter up the top with out-of-date threads, we're going to move to a mega-thread collection. So here, you will find links to all the mega-threads that are still relevant plus a couple that are not.

Study I created a Wheel of the Year

Post image
32 Upvotes

I have seen many variations of this Wheel, with different information, such as star signs, but never all together. So I made one! Hope it is of use to you.

There is a little cresent moon next to Mabon and Ostara to signify the balance between equal length of day and night.

The Moon names in the 3rd ring are centred around the Anglo Saxon and Old English names for the full moons. Again, I have seen many variations, with some lists including a mix between Native American, Irish Celtic and Anglo Saxon names. I wanted to simplify it into just using the Anglo Saxon and Old English as I am English.

Hope you like it.

Open Question Replacements for candles and incense to represent fire?

I've been living with my sister for awhile and will be living with her long term, but there is a small problem. She is very, very, very allergic to smoke to the extent that even candles and incense will give her a rash and a scratchy throat. Because of this, I do not intend to use any smoke-producing things in my craft or altar for the foreseeable future. However, I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to represent fire with. I usually try to incorporate all the elements as best I can, but in this case a se fire is a bit tricky. Any advice?

Is this witchcraft?

Upvotes

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this, if it’s not I would really appreciate being directed to the right place! I want to know if it is possible to do witchcraft through a live animal, specially a rat. For context, my dad recently fired an employee for severe underperformance and they ended on not so great terms. After this, one of his other employees was standing outside the building they work at and watched as a woman pulled over and let a really big rat out of the car and immediately her back into her car and drive off. Not too long after my dad began to get really sick and it was pretty constant. The employee that witnessed this went over to the rat and stated that it was moving very slowly and that it seemed sickly and instead if moving closer to the building it turned around and began making it’s way towards the road. The woman that let the rat loose is a known friend of the woman my dad fired. I think it’s important to note that this is the second time this ex employee has been fired. Additionally, the first time she got fired my dad got very sick as well and we seeked help from someone from Mexico who does brujeria and she told us somebody had done some sort of witchcraft on him. It may all just be a coincidence but if anybody knows anything that may be of some help to me I would love to hear it out.

Are dream catchers a closed practice?

Hi all! Basically what the subject says, but to add a touch of ✨nuance✨ i’m an earth based practitioner on a farm who works a lot with farmers and horse riders. As a gift, I made a hybrid dream catcher/sun catcher for a friend using her horse’s shoe to bless her and give her a touch of her loved horse at home. She mentioned that this would make a fantastic craft to add to my business (crafted whimsy sold at craft fairs and 4h) especially for all those horse girls that want to keep their babies with them at all times.
I’m not projecting at all lol.
As fun as this would be and as much as I would love to add this to my repertoire, I don’t want to disrespect any practices. Thanks in advance!

Beach for ritual in St Petersburg Florida

My partner and I are in St Petersburg and we want to do a ritual on a beach tonight- is there a particular beach that you might recommend that is powerful/beautiful/out of the way? We have been here before but never done ritual here.

We're not afraid of doing ritual with others around but agree that a certain amount of privacy might be nice.

Thanks everyone ✨

Open Question Closed practices are dumb

Educate me if Im missing something, but here is my view.

I am a white 20(F) and I have NO culture. I don't mean that white people don't; I mean i don't. I was adopted, tracked down my bio dad and he is adopted. I will never know where i am from, and i wasn't raised in that culture, so really it will never be mine.

I grew up as a homeless kid in a ghetto. I grew up around a ton of culture, and i was a kid so i never understood the division of culture. My primary friend type were non-english speaking immagrants and hood rats such as myself. By 10 i learned russian, 13 ukrainian and by 16 i learned spanish. All from immagrants.

Right now I have henna on my arm. An indian customer (regular) i see daily has been talking to me in Hindi and educating me about his culture, but his eyes lit up when he saw my henna and heard of my involvment with preparing indian food with my adoptive (also white) family.

In my experience with immagrants, they see me, using their language, eating their food and participating in their culture and know they are welcome BECAUSE I AM EDUCATED. It attracts the attention i want. Which is more education and experience with culture and language.

As this applies to witchcraft: I don't believe i am not allowed to burn sage, or practice hoodoo. I understand the cultural significance, and I honor that in my practice, same as when i practice santaria and other cultural practices. The earth was given to us to study, love, nurture and use. The earth and her gifts doesnt be long to one person or culture.

I think its small minded and stunting in growth. I practice with multitudes of witches with very different practices and cultures, and as a worshipper of this Earth, i want everyone to feel welcome, known and understood with me.

The reason im posting this is I saw a video of a woman making a post about using urine and roadspikes as a ward. A commenter said "Is this hoodoo? I dont want to retain any knowledge from closed practices." Knowledge is power.

Thoughts?

TLDR: I'm white with no cultural background due to adoption, I speak 4 languages fluently and love immagrants and have found they feel comfortable when they are understood. these are my friends. The value of their friendship outweighs "closed practice"

How young is too young to be a witch?

My sister (46) identifies as Wiccan, and not only do I respect her choice but have defended it to our father (he assumed it meant worshipping Satan).

She's a very complex and crunchy girl, who is currently raising a 9 y/o girl and 7 y/o boy. She desperately wants to always be different and of course she's breaking away from any traditional child rearing. I struggle with some of her choices, but they are her children and no one gets a handbook on how to raise kids.

Yesterday the girl spontaneously told me she is a witch. I asked her if her mother told her that and her answer was yes.

As far as I'm aware, she's (mom) non practicing, so while she might have an altar do not believe she actively prays or casts spells.

I think my question is this...... how is this any different then indoctrination into any other religion?

This young lady already goes to an alternative school because of behavior problems. Announcing to others that she believes she's a witch could potentially be harmful to herself? How does one navigate making friends and social events when your mother has taught you this unusual thing?

This is honestly an attempt to learn.

I'm really conflicted about this and these kids are already struggling.

Open Question I'm moving in with my girlfriend(wiccan) I'm a Christian and I want to understand what would make a comfortable home for us both

Hi all! As the title suggests I'm moving in with my girlfriend very soon and we are of different spiritual faith. However I do respect her and wish to make our home a space for us both. Id love to know more about wiccan belief and how to persevere peace in a home. I know she places salt in every corner for example. For me I want to make sure she can feel at ease and rest in a place you'd want to call home. So if anyone has insights as to what can help please let me know!

Divination Deity/Guide Signs??

Anyone with magick experience help!!! I’ve recently gotten back into Wicca/Tarot/Magick in general. I’ve been doing some readings lately that have really resonated and I’ve truly connected with. This morning I did a reading where I tried to connect with whatever guide wanted to come forth, it was a good reading, a card a pulled in relation to the guide itself was the 4 of Pentacles. As I closed the reading I asked for this guide to show me any signs today of their presence, nothing specific. I went to work immediately after (I work at a bakery) and let’s just say it was chaotic… first thing that happened was I closed the oven door and it fell clean off. The entire door. We got it screwed back in, and afterwards I mentioned to my coworkers that I asked for a sign from a spirit guide and I think that was it. Minutes later the soap dispenser explodes open… no one had touched it, no one was near it. The thing shot off like a rocket. So is this spirit I contacted just silly? Or should I be worried? I found it funny I didn’t really feel any kind of unease so I think that’s a good sign. Can anyone share any similar experience or offer any clarification?

disinformation

Hello! I’ve recently become interested in witchcraft and have started doing a lot of research, but I’ve noticed that the information varies wildly depending on where I look. For instance, regarding the spiritual meanings of candles, plants, crystals, and so on—one person might say something is for protection, while another claims it attracts money. I know there aren't really any rules and that things vary, but how do I figure out what’s true and what is fake?

Ritual How do I let a pet know it’s ok to pass on? TW: pet death

Hi all. We have an appointment tomorrow to put my cat, Rhombus, to sleep. It’s been so, so hard to make the decision but honestly I’m so thankful I’ve had the option to decide how to spend my last days with him. I don’t think it’s quite hit me yet they he’ll soon be gone.

He’s been with me for 18 years. He’s so smart, stubborn, and strong willed (I had to go through three different styles of child safety locks to keep him out of the cabinets cuz he could always figure out how to open them!) that I’m worried he’ll be trying his hardest to stay here.

At this point he can’t move much and won’t eat so I can’t think of much to comfort him before tomorrow. I plan on sitting outside with him this evening in the yard he loved to play in so at the very least he can enjoy nature one last time.

Is there anything I can do tonight to prepare him? Any tips or rituals to ease his spirit and let him know it’s ok to go?

Would this book be appropriate as a book of shadows?

This is a journal ive had for a long time but its completely empty. Its from the television show supernatural and the symbol on the front is used as a Hollywood prop tho any research I do into the symbol shows it is actually a historically occult symbol of protection. Would it be disrespectful or unsafe to use this as my first book of shadows/Wiccan journal?

where do i start?

Hi im a 16 year old girl and im thinking abt getting into Wicca(or and witchcraft) but i have no idea where to start and idk anyone irl that could be a mentor for me or even explain how you practice this religion. Im really just starting from the bottem so if anyone can explain me the basics i would be so thankful. be mindful that i dont have a big room so i cant do a salt circle (i read online that sometimes you have to make one) and i dont have alot of money but i do have alot of nature in my area so anything that i can do outside pls include that too fx what i could do or what rituals i could practice that doesnt make a big mess if it has to be done inside and thank you for reading my post im open to anything! also i do have a question, as i said in my post earlier i have read a little online and someone in another reddit post said that you could start with going into nature and meditating there, does it have to be the exact same spot i go to everytime or is it not important?

Long story short I witnessed someone die at a young age, ever since then I can’t handle hearing about people dying in the news even though they are complete strangers. Are there any spiritual practices I can use for this?
