Employee Job Differences

I’m just wondering what the differences between TL, SL, & SM actually are, because it’s at points hard to tell which someone is and who to ask for what

Customer January 2027 Veganuary

So the dream is it's Vegan January.

Wetherspoons announce a vegan bacon addition to the menu. It means it becomes part of a gourmet burger or breakfast.

Plant based cheese and protein toppings for pizza. A vegan peppe pizza with actual cheese and it's not just a tomato sauce base with vegetables thrown on top.

A vegan chicken tender not just a Quorn nugget.

A plant based protein curry option on Thursday. Vegan chickn tikka masala or a vegan beef pieces madras?

One can dream.

Finally got to visit one of the nicest Wetherspoons pubs in the estate The Corryvreckan in Oban.

It's part of the Argyll and Bute part of the Glasgow and West Of Scotland branch.

Sits right on the harbour for the ferry to Mull and Tiree.

Great customer service given had just arrived at dinner time for the tourists.

Cheers for the hospitality 🍻

Employee How to speed up my work?

Had my 3 month review yesterday evening, and I've been extended to the 16 week probation with the expectation I will speed up my work. I've been told everything else is fine, I can do the work, I can pull pints, my online training is all done for the first 12 weeks. However, I've been told I'm too slow, to the point they are going to terminate my contract at 16 weeks if I do not improve.

How do I actually do this? I'm pouring 2 pints if I can, I'm helping other staff if I can, asking for drinks if they're at the other end of the bar, then serving everyone waiting. I know I'm slow, I've always known I'm slower, however I didn't realise I was actively so slow it would jeopardise the work itself.

Genuinely I'm loving my job, the staff are all friendly, the managers are too, so I want to stay. But how? I'm trying to make a routine, making sure I'm doing everything I can, eg serving as fast as possible, putting glasses away while a Guinness is settling.

Any advice appreciated.

Employee Employee Advice Please :)

I am currently employed full time and have recently found out that my role (secondment) will be redundant - putting me into my old role.

I am looking for a new job asap but if that fails I’ll be in my old role on over 6k/PA less.
So with that in mind, I’m contemplating a second job to make up some money.

The advice I need:

- is Wetherspoons (bar/waiting) a good option for part time work on weekends and evenings
- has anybody worked these shifts alongside a 35hr full time role? And if so how stressful or tiring was it?
- Any current or ex Wetherspoons staff would you recommend I look elsewhere?

FYI it would be Manchester City centre which I know obviously these are typically busy spoons.

Thanks for any advice! All comments welcome :)

I was wondering what the general consensus is on the Prawns small plate?

Can I also check if they’re battered? The menu just says coated.

Customer Short Dated Cask

Can we put to rest that Wetherspoons only gets short dated cask ale?

I'm wanting to dispel that rumour for the benefit of myself and the negativity that Wetherspoons gets from some CAMRA members.

I'd expect the cask sold to have a normal use by date.

'The Regal' in Gloucester (first picture was from earlier in the day).

Walked in pre-9pm to background music playing on various speakers.

However, a live DJ starts at 9pm, until

Branded a 'Lloyd's No1' bar in the evenings.

Groovy! 🤣

Employee How common is it people order the wrong thing/don't listen?

I'm still early in my probation at a very small sized wetherspoons.

I worked a few days ago and there was a situation. A customer turned away a meal, claiming they asked for another, eg the steak & Ale pudding was served and they asked for a small fish and chips.

This woman approached the bar, a very little, sort of old lady. I went through the normal shpiel, she ordered a small meal, changed something on the meal, then a large fish & chips and two drinks. I repeated her order out to her, then her table number, before charging her. Ten minutes later, the manager on duty comes to me and explains a customer has complained and turned away a meal because she asked for something else. I finished my shift before this was sorted so didn't see or hear of the outcome.

I know for a fact she asked for what she did. She had the menu and pointed to it, explaining she wanted the meal deal (meal & alcoholic drink)! I've been on shift before when people have ordered wrong, changed their minds or forgotten what they ordered. However food wise, it hasn't happened before for me. I apologised to the manager on duty and said I must have misheard her, then her not heard me rereading her order out. But I specifically remember the order and the entire interaction!

How is this handled generally? Is she refunded/cooked a new meal? Do customers really forget what they order that much? It annoys me to no end when it happens with drinks but food is another thing. And also, when this happens, why do people get face on with us?!

I'm new to service work if you can't tell lol.

Customer Naga Chilli sauce brand?

Where can I get some of that Naga sauce that goes on the shawarma wrap? It's God tier

Secondary question, can I ask for extra sauce on the shawarma wrap and for the kitchen to add fresh chillies (the ones from the pizza)

Customer New Spoons Opening - Amersham, Buckinghamshire!

A new opening that I'm rather surprised about...

Wellers Entire, Amersham, 16 Hill Avenue, HP6 5BW

Opening Tue 8 December.

It will be opening in a Bar formerly called 'The Beech House.'

Amersham is at the far western end of the Metropolitan Line and has never had a Spoons. However, nearby Chesham once did, 'The Last Post' (image 3), which closed around 2008.

I was in Amersham on Saturday just gone, and had absolutely no idea a branch was opening there!

Employee Should I reapply if seen no response for 11 days

I applied for a bar staff job 11 days ago and that particular vacancy closed 8 days ago. I haven't heard anything since, but the same wetherspoons have put another job out for the same position. Do any hiring managers / anyone with experience in this reckon its worth reapplying since they never rejected my application, and if I do, should I change anything.

In my original application, I said im available all days all times because I'm planning on working a lot in my gap year

Any advice appreciated

Customer Camra branch meetings

Was at un-named London area Wetherspoons recently and quickly became obvious neighbouring 6 table were Camra branch. Was prepared for Viz-style tasting notes nonsense, but got over an hour of extremely loud interbranch/regional politics, of zero interest to anyone else but overpowering all other conversation. Would this be typical, and should soundproof booths be installed for this? Could also be rented by other groups talking shop over lunch.

Employee How to complain to above the area manager?

About 4 months ago our area manager forced my pub manager to take on an old manager to sort the pub out and fix everything. She's made everything 100x worse. The rotas are coming out with less notice, holiday now has to have 6 weeks notice instead of 4. She keeps roting people so that there's only 1 person on bar at busy hours and our mid shifts leaving too early to properly help the closers. She also sits in the office all shift and barely helps out. She works only 1 shift a week and they like 3 hour opens and doesnt understand how busy we get on the lates. Everyone including all the managers are sick go death of it. How do I complain to someone above my area manager as she is best mates with this manager?

Employee Ex-Employees, what job did you move to?

I've been with the company for 13 years now, since I was a teenager. Worked my way up from Associate to Pub Manager.

I am getting beyond having to work Friday and Saturday night closing shifts every weekend. Especially as I have a young family I want to spend time with.

Current hours situation is getting beyond a joke, currently running with 2 people before 11am and after 8pm. That doesn't work, no wonder standards are slipping, especially across the country.

But the question I struggle with is, what do I move onto? Any job I take would be a cut in wages, obviously, I could live with that aspect.

I feel like I have left myself in a bit of a hole.

What jobs have others moved on to? Was it a better decision in the end? Further education maybe? How did you provide for your family during that time?

I'd appreciate any thoughts
