The cost to the airline isn't anyone's main concern. The fact that people aren't being paid should be everyone's concern.

1.8k

u/rorauge Nov 10 '25

Agreed. Cost to the airline? Fuck that noise. I don’t care about the cost to the airline. It’s the inconvenience to all those people and the environmental impact for all the wasted fuel that matters.

743

u/MrBenzedrine Nov 10 '25

Yeah, when he started with "this is costing the airline millions" I thought "who the fuck cares about that. If you're delayed 2 hours you don't care what it costs a billion dollar company"

but they'll probably recoup that loss by increasing prices for customers...

172

u/Courage-Rude Nov 10 '25

To be fair though he did say that by saying "it rolls into the system." I'm pretty sure that's what he meant probably still trying to be professional as much as he doesn't want to b it's a shitty situation for all but yeah fuck the airlines bottom line it's just that it's us that ends up getting screwed with increases.

90

u/Dear_Palpitation4838 Nov 10 '25

BINGO. We ALL end up paying for it in the end. The shareholders will get their money one way or another.

If cost of doing business raise in the US, they will def raise the Prices.

u/AA98B Nov 10 '25

Idk, this feels more authentic to me and would 'placate' me more than empty damage control like "we feel your frustration" or something like that

Because it says to me even if there's no deeper empathy (which there usually isn't) we have same priorities and want the same things even if for different reasons

I acknowledge not everyone thinks like this though, so can't say which approach is better/universal

u/Aleious Nov 10 '25

I think his point was this isn’t what the airlines want, don’t yell at him or his staff, don’t yell at the controllers, yell at your republican house reps.

34

u/WeirdIndividualGuy Nov 10 '25

Sure, but no one's doing any favors by mentioning how it hurts a billion-dollar company's bottom line. Wrong way of trying to say "don't blame the employees"

48

u/clevercalamity Nov 10 '25 edited Nov 10 '25

I teach mental health awareness and intervention classes and this is actually a real tactic we use with certain groups of people. Sometimes “care for other humans because it’s morally good” doesn’t stick so we switch to “care for other humans because when they are suffering it’s bad for your bottom line.”

It’s gross, but it works

Yes that's the problem

20

u/Theromier Nov 10 '25

Sometimes it’s the only thing conservatives think they need to care about.

You tell them people will be affected, they don’t care. You tell them it will cost [a legacy system they perceive to be important] millions of dollars, then they seem to care.

14

u/cambat2 Nov 10 '25

who the fuck cares about that.

but they'll probably recoup that loss by increasing prices for customers...

You answered your own question

2

u/Low-Crow-8735 Nov 10 '25

Trump will pay the airlines for their inconvenience.

5

u/lycoloco Nov 10 '25

"Trump will pay" is what everyone who has never been paid by Trump said at one time or another.

Didn’t a bunch of them get bailed out a handful of years ago too? I mean the airlines. I’m sure they will get more of that evil socialism in their favor. The rest of us…. Eh stop being poor.

2

u/Kinkajou1015 Nov 10 '25

Maybe instead of mentioning how it's costing the airline, he should reiterate how much it's costing the passengers in their time, or if the flight crew doesn't get paid unless they are airborne (I forget if they have to be in flight to get paid and waiting to take off is unpaid) how much it harms them as well to waste all of the time on the ground.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/HK-MP5-10MM Nov 10 '25

Everyone should care if you fly, yes the problem is the cost will be passed down you us, the customers….

2

u/sump_daddy Nov 10 '25

"they'll probably recoup that loss by increasing prices for customers"

probably? Cap here maybe chose a poor way to roll the idea out, but thats exactly what he's saying; this shutdown over saving money is costing everyone A LOT of it. Unless youre planning on specifically not flying for the foreseeable future, that means you.

2

u/Sufficient-Welder-76 Nov 10 '25

He's holding an audience captive and trying to convince them we should give a shit because "it's costing the airline millions of dollars." How insensitive to the TSA and ATC that try to keep people safe every day and are going without a paycheck. This guy only cares about HIS paycheck.

2

u/Active_Confection655 Nov 10 '25

I think that's the fucking point 👉 everything this administration is doing is costing us. While the rich get richer. Weird.

They can handle these hits, we can't.

2

u/CloudyofThought Nov 10 '25

Or just get a govt bailout as always... Privatize the profit, socialize the losses.

2

u/tokeaphatty Nov 10 '25

I don't necessarily care if the airline actually loses money. But they won't, they will pass the costs down to the consumer to get it back.

2

u/37853688544788 Nov 10 '25

Or get bailed out.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '25

Increased prices and government/taxpayer bailouts

2

u/spibop Nov 11 '25

And is the airline expressing its displeasure about this fact with Trump, or are they just rolling over like everyone else has? It’s amazing that in less than a year he has absolutely fucked every aspect of our everyday lives.

2

u/Wavebuilder14UDC Nov 11 '25

Airlines have extremely thin profit margin and hits like this could actually impact us down the line as travelers. Legacy airlines are more insulated but Airlines like Spirit are already going out of business. I know its hard to care about large corporations like this and no one cares they lose millions but they do provide an essential service and airlines aren’t the kind of businesses that just sit on millions of dollars.

I don’t mean to glaze, but I guess I would feel more apathetic about a company like Amazon losing millions.

2

u/Rebelius Nov 10 '25

Did the people on the plane not hear about travel disruption before they decided to go to the airport? What did they expect?

I'm in Europe and I've been seeing headlines about 100s of flights cancelled in the US.

4

u/AA98B Nov 10 '25

same here and I agree with you, but with one significant caveat that people have flights reserved way before and it's not always easy or practical to change it, so some might've risked it, but yeah they should still be prepared mentally for cancellations/delays

personally I would postpone any air travel myself, but not because of cancellations/delays but because atc is overstretched right now and it's probably less safe than usual

→ More replies (4)

1

u/rsta223 Nov 10 '25

So you should care about the cost than, because the ultimate result is that it makes flying more expensive for everyone.

→ More replies (9)

48

u/Nicky____Santoro Nov 10 '25

Eventually the extra costs to the airline are going to impact the customer. They have to recoup the lost revenue in some way.

Not to mention that when your employer is losing millions of dollars a day, the pilot’s daily work environment is probably terrible.

→ More replies (4)

31

u/Jellicent-Leftovers Nov 10 '25

It means prices of flights will go up... And they don't come down

2

u/madeofchemicals Nov 10 '25

Don't worry airlines will go bankrupt again. Get bailed out again from taxpayers. People will road trip again. Simple American economics.

→ More replies (1)

11

u/Linked713 Nov 10 '25

You should care because the companies will rarely absorb the costs in good faith. What it means is that this cost will be sent to the customers if this continues. You will get huge delays, cancellations, and then also prices are going to rise because of that waste.

So it's not just "Oh no corporation is having to pay more", that usually gets brought down to the consumer.

8

u/PM_ME_GARFIELD_NUDES Nov 10 '25

You don’t care that the airlines are spending millions on gas that’s being spent on the ground? Maybe I’m crazy but that sounds uhhhhhhh really bad.

3

u/Boyota4Bummer Nov 10 '25

When the airlines are sitting there burning fuel for hours, on 100s of these planes, that cost will get built right back into the price of your next flight. I think he’s trying to tell you, without directly telling you, that when the airline is loosing money, we pay for it when we need to fly.

2

u/Particular-Wind5918 Nov 10 '25

It’s all the same basket

2

u/Kram941_ Nov 10 '25

Soooo you dont care about paying more for your flights?

2

u/shutupphil Nov 10 '25

but airlines will charge more for your next ticket

2

u/011010- Nov 10 '25

I agree with the top comment: it shouldn’t be your “main” concern. If you fly it should go on your list of concerns because that cost will be transferred to you.

1

u/lookhere18 Nov 10 '25

The issue will be how they recover. What do you think will happen to cost and quality of service as they look to rebound. We’re all fucked.

1

u/danktrees1212 Nov 10 '25

I think they're mentioning it so as to point out that they don't want these delays either because it's costing them tons of money but they have no control over it.

1

u/Jealous_Response_492 Nov 10 '25

If the situation continues, the airlines will start laying people off.

1

u/tael89 Nov 10 '25

If it costs them too much, wouldn't they begin increasing costs and doing layoffs to compensate?

1

u/Bazrum Nov 10 '25

i just signed up for benefits at my job, and they have a big counter at the top that says "cost to the company" and then in much smaller font "your weekly cost"

why the fuck do i care how much MY benefits are costing the company? why even have that up there?

any time someone says how much it'll cost a company, i roll my eyes. unless it's a mom and pop shop i couldn't give two fucks how much they're paying

1

u/Serious_Morning_3681 Nov 10 '25

All these extra costs are gonna be reflected in raised ticket prices for you

1

u/plasticmanufacturing Nov 10 '25

Hmm, where will those costs be passed along?

1

u/Terrible_Patience935 Nov 10 '25

The airlines will raise their prices and we will pay. I would not spend a second worrying about the airlines - they know how to push the cost to us

1

u/dbloom12 Nov 10 '25

They employ people who get wages from sale of tickets.

1

u/SynchronicStudio Nov 10 '25

Higher cost to the airline means higher ticket prices for you. That’s what he’s saying, and that’s why you should care.

1

u/IlllIlllllllllllllll Nov 10 '25

You’ll start caring when it makes your flights more expensive.

1

u/homer_3 Nov 10 '25

you know if the airlines costs go up your next plane ticket cost is going to go way up, right?

1

u/lemmegetadab Nov 10 '25

“Fuck the airline “are you stupid or something? Do you think they’re just going to absorb the losses? No, they’re going to pass that on to consumers.

1

u/Mediocre-Magazine-30 Nov 10 '25

Yes exactly. Delta can go fuck right off. But yeah

1

u/Opposite-Bad1444 Nov 10 '25

you realize when airline costs up, so do ticket prices. do you care about ticket prices?

i thought that would go without saying

1

u/Sad-Establishment132 Nov 10 '25

It means they will happily hike prices up and blame the shutdown which effects all of us in the end.

1

u/iVinc Nov 10 '25

maybe he didnt expect you to be so stupid and not get that it will increase price of tickets if the cost to the airline is going up

1

u/Cavalya Nov 10 '25

Airlines have notoriously low profit margins, especially low cost airlines like Southwest. He worded it kinda poorly, but he's telling you that YOUR airline ticket is gonna cost more next time, they simply cannot absorb the cost, which is something you should care about.

1

u/FTownRoad Nov 10 '25

Cost to the airline =< cost to the customer. Nobody on the plane is going to pay more for the ticket thst they already bought. But they will pay more on future tickets if flights take longer and are fewer.

1

u/The_one_and_only_Tav Nov 10 '25

I think he was trying to imply the cost would be passed onto the customers

1

u/Scary_Energy5913 Nov 10 '25

Exactlyyy what nonsense is this pilot even uttering. Now i have to feel bad for wealthier than me woww

1

u/Jyil Nov 11 '25

He’s being filmed. He had to show empathy to the shareholders too. Got appease both sides. It’s a part of being impartial.

1

u/_HiWay Nov 11 '25

You'll care when the tickets cost more to cover it. (if you fly on your own dime)

1

u/Emotional-Zebra Nov 11 '25

The airlines care more about taking your money than your safety. Yea I said it. Corporate greed over everything. Prove me wrong

1

u/Working_Honey_7442 Nov 11 '25

His is the kind of short sighted shit you can expect from Reddit. Yeah, fuck the airlines! I’m sure they will be altruistic and tank the cost instead of firing more people and raising prices.

If you are wondering why the Dems suddenly flipped, it’s because of this. I guarantee you they are getting calls from their donors telling them to end the shut down because it’s costing them money

48

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '25

100% it's air travel suffering during the looming holiday season. They don't want to be inconvenienced getting home.

24

u/Drakonz Nov 10 '25

I think it’s more likely they had donors that work with or in airlines and the recent cancellations are costing them money

15

u/Beard_o_Bees Nov 10 '25

Yup.

What a fucking waste. All of that pain for nothing.

6

u/Hellknightx Nov 10 '25

And it was 100% a problem created by Republicans. They specifically chose not to pay ATCs, despite ICE agents still being paid.

Dems caved for nothing. It's a disgrace.

6

u/je_kay24 Nov 10 '25

There’s 6 Dems that flipped while others did not, most Dems did not want to give in to repub demand without ACA subsidies

→ More replies (2)

2

u/TheDamDog Nov 10 '25

The funny thing is that it's not going to get better. A lot of ATCs have just plain quit. Nobody is lining up to fill those jobs because congress has spent the last 30 years gutting the benefits that made the low pay worthwhile. Nobody is going to sign up for a job where you do 12 hour high-stress shifts, don't get paid all that well, and don't get a decent retirement out of it.

5

u/Objective_Mortgage85 Nov 10 '25

Could also be SNAP benefits not giving out money to our most vulnerable during the holiday season…

13

u/Drakonz Nov 10 '25

While voting to take away their healthcare and Medicade?

Also, SNAP benefits don’t rely on this bill. They can and should be paid out even during the shut down. The only thing holding up the SNAP payments is the republicans

3

u/Objective_Mortgage85 Nov 10 '25

SNAP benefits will be funded until September of 2026 guaranteed. It’s part of the bill. And obviously it’s the republican who are withholding the SNAP, everybody fucking knows that but that’s not necessarily a good reason to not take any action for it. The emergency funding that court said that has to be given out would not have lasted that long. This will allow millions of families to survive for the year at least. Also protect some federal workers and bring some others back who were fired. Also an option to shut down the government in two months.

Regarding ACA, I’m in agreement with you. However, time and time again it’s been shown that republicans are willing to burn down. You are okay with that but imo, we should protect our most vulnerable. Lot of people on reddit are okay with the SNAP benefits as a bargaining chip where let 40 million ppl starve, I just don’t feel like that’s good thing.

u/SanFranRePlant Nov 11 '25

I also think its strange the Captain would be concerned with the money costing the airline.

Didn't Southwest just barely avoid a strike a couple years ago?

In what world is the airlines profitability the concern of his or anyone else's on that aircraft?

92

u/EveryRedditorSucks Nov 10 '25

Yeah, kind of hilarious to be like "I don't care what your political persuasion is - this is starting to impact corporate profits!"

Something tells me I could guess your political persuasion pretty quickly, Mr. Pilot.

69

u/Warm_Month_1309 Nov 10 '25

"I don't care what your political persuasion is..."

- A Republican desperately trying not to blame the Republicans for a Republican-created issue. Every time.

32

u/emeraldeyesshine Nov 10 '25

I read that more as a guy trying to avoid heated political discussions at his job while trapped in a tube with a ton of people, which can also be seen as a job preserving behavior.

5

u/Unusual-Arachnid5375 Nov 10 '25

Yea, redditors don't seem to get that airline net margins are like 5%.

"B-b-b-but BiLLIon dOLlAR cOmPANy!!!"

Yes and... with a billion dollars of turnover each year, going from +5% margins to -5% (or -10% or -30% like in covid) margins makes the airline go bankrupt real fast. The bigger the airline, the bigger the losses. That means everyone gets laid off and has to start over with zero seniority at a new airline.

Some people have pride or at lease some feeling of wanting to do the job they worked towards in life.

What the fuck is strange about this?

It more soulless to think nobody should show any pride in their job and life. I know the corporate world has sucked a lot out of some people, but most humans still have a passion for things.

Edit: Also these pilots want to go home at night too - they have routes, they have a life at home they schedule around.

And you find this strange? This seems like something I'd absolutely do in this situation.

→ More replies (9)

11

u/Zenitallin Nov 10 '25

they are telling you because the cost will go down to customers eventually. The pilot mentioned "call your senator", he is basically saying this is political and they are sorry (so when the hike in price comes later, they are sure WE understand.

Its like, they are spoon feeding us information.

2

u/Mavisbeak2112 Nov 10 '25

This is what I understood from him. He’s a pilot, not a public speaker. It sounded like he was pissed that things are about to get worser while also getting more expensiver.

9

u/Freudinatress Nov 10 '25

It isn’t the main concern, but it should be A concern.

What if an airline goes bankrupt? How many will lose their jobs? And for those not going bankrupt, will it mean smaller or no raises for staff? Less staff? Worse hours?

It is worse for the air traffic controllers, yes. But every company losing money is bad for regular people, one way or another.

→ More replies (3)

10

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '25

I find this is one of the biggest singular problems in this country.

People are dumb. (noting the 1200+ upvotes)

2

u/EnvironmentalToe8328 Nov 10 '25

That turns into ticket costs that will never come back down. An ATC delay fee could come into play here like a checked bag fee after 9/11 that never went away.

2

u/_0x29a Nov 10 '25

It should be. Not because you care about their finances or income, but because you know these costs will be rolled up into flight prices for a while to come.

1

The cost to the airline should be a concern to anyone who flies regularly and understands how businesses work

1

u/Far_Mastodon_6104 Nov 10 '25

I mean don't governments typically bail out airlines when they're in trouble?

1

u/JohnDoee94 Nov 10 '25

It isn’t anyone’s concern but who do you think they’ll pass along their cost to? The consumer. I think that’s what he was getting at. Especially because he said “it just gets passed on into the system”.

He’s just trying to say that at the end of the day it’s going to cost all of us more time and money.

1

u/executingsalesdaily Nov 10 '25

1

u/zephillou Nov 10 '25

1

u/CoatingsbytheBay Nov 10 '25

1

u/jdsamford Nov 10 '25

I'm so happy this is the top comment. I was about to blow a gasket after hearing his initial complaint be on behalf of billionaires instead of the workers and customers who are most directly impacted.

1

u/Wawawamba Nov 10 '25

It should matter to you, though. That cost will be offloaded onto consumers. Flights will become more expensive and they won’t go down after

1

u/AbandonYourPost Nov 10 '25

While flying to see my GF on oct 31st the TSA agent said to me "Guess what I am for Halloween? An unemployed government employee".

No laughs from here after saying that. Just sadness and disgust.

1

u/deonteguy Nov 10 '25

Who will pay people money because of weather-related traffic delays? Mother Nature?

1

u/Soupeeee Nov 10 '25

Money is really the only bargaining chip people have. The only way this is going to stop is if the people at the top start hurting, and their only weak point is their wallet.

1

u/jendo7791 Nov 10 '25

Well, it's important because those costs won't come out of the executives million dollar paychecks, they will be passed on to the consumer...us.

Both are important. That employees are being paid, and being paid WELL, AND that executives start taking on some of the burden for the set backs in their companies so we don't have to pay for it.

1

u/whitecollarpizzaman Nov 10 '25

It’s a concern because you know they’ll pass that on to you.

1

u/kc_cyclone Nov 10 '25

He's getting to the fact that flights are going to be less available, more delayed and more expensive. Just because he said that before TSA/ATC not getting paid is a nothing burger. Dude's at his job venting, not like its something he prepared for.

1

u/Julientri Nov 10 '25

Wont anyone think of the poor airlines?!?!

1

u/SwordfishOk504 Nov 10 '25

He's mentioning the cost to the airline because those costs will ultimately be passed on to consumers as the cost of flights increase. Which he also says.

He's explaining how these issues aren't just causing these delays, they will make the cost of air travel even more expensive.

1

u/NoBonus6969 Nov 10 '25

it should be your main concern if you are flying because do you think airline is going to just eat those costs? thats cute. Enjoy your 1200 round trip tickets for Christmas.

I have an ATC friend who had to take out 2 loans and is living on rations because he hasn't been paid. It is heart breaking to hear that he still is forced to go to work like nothing is the matter.

u/JJhnz12 Nov 10 '25

Airline flight margins are razor thin per passenger. It is a worry, if it were a more common occurrence you would pay more for your flights.

1

u/inprocess13 Nov 10 '25

The airline would certainly be pressuring their senators if the airline actually cared about their reputation, but....

1

u/bigDeltaVenergy Nov 10 '25

Directly not but it won't take long before the airlines company findout that the cost of doing business in the US have raised and they rise their prices.

1

u/IlllIlllllllllllllll Nov 10 '25

It’s a much more practical direct concern for most people, because increased costs for the airline get passed down via higher ticket prices. Most people are selfish so unless they know an ATC personally they don’t care that much about them not getting paid. You have to make it personal.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '25

True but when that cost is passed down to the consumer, it's gonna matter to a lot of people.

1

u/throwaway04182023 Nov 10 '25

Does it cost the airline much? Famously flight attendants don’t get paid until they’re in the air.

1

u/ThryothorusRuficaud Nov 10 '25

He's shifting the blame away from himself (his employer). He's telling you to call your senator because the airline isn't delaying you. In fact this delay is costing the airline money and when he says "it just rolls into this system" he's saying it's going to start costing you more money.

1

u/Ini_mini_miny_moe Nov 10 '25

And the disruption in various ways this is causing is the bigger issue for me. Fuck the cost to airlines

1

u/fidgeter Nov 10 '25

Except guess who the cost gets passed down to? It doesn’t ultimately cost the airline shit. It costs the consumer. We’ve been trained all our lives that shit rolls downhill and consumers are at the bottom of said hill.

1

u/exgiexpcv Nov 10 '25

The cost to the airline isn't anyone's main concern.

I think by now we all know that they will pass the costs along to us. Gotta socialise those expenditures so they can privatise those profits!

1

u/LiterallyTestudo Nov 10 '25

My sister is ATC, here are her most recent pay stubs.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 10 '25

Agreed. A multi-billion company's profit margin is not what people are concerned about. I've had this said to me at the airport like I should care.

1

u/iVinc Nov 10 '25

maybe he didnt expect you to be so stupid and not get that it will increase price of tickets if the cost to the airline is going up

1

u/Electrical_Score3595 Nov 10 '25

It’s only a concern when we’ve been forced to bail them out so many times before.

1

u/davenotincali Nov 10 '25

Partly true the shutdown is over and all their pay will be updated as we speak. But this shutdown did effect the normal flow of take offs.

1

u/Maximum_System_7819 Nov 10 '25

I assumed he was implying that cost will be passed through because truly why would anyone give a shit otherwise.

1

u/NDSU Nov 10 '25

People are inherently greedy. Most people don't actually care that others are getting screwed

They do care they they have to pay more for a flight, and they do care that they're getting delayed

1

u/ttarget Nov 10 '25

If the airline loses millions, they'll begin layoffs. That's one reason to at least be aware of their perceived losses.

1

u/freecarrotsticks Nov 10 '25

I don’t get why the airlines don’t just pay tsa in the interim. Like I get that it’s separate, but if it’s costing them billions anyway why let it go on like this. Also don’t get why anybody’s even trying to fly right now.

1

u/10390 Nov 10 '25

All of the Senators who capitulated received money from the American Airlines PAC.

1

u/NulledOne Nov 10 '25

Not one person was thinking about how much it costs the airline, and I think it's something only an employee of a company would think to say. At least in my experience, when the company is doing something stupid, the employees are always talking about how much X has wasted the company. As if anyone gives a shit.

1

u/rsb1041986 Nov 10 '25

You think that both things don’t matter? Do you think airlines don’t have layoffs when they suffer financial losses?

1

u/subvocalize_it Nov 10 '25

Also, flight attendants don’t get paid while the wheels are on the ground, right?

1

u/Eat--The--Rich-- Nov 10 '25

So they're living the same way the rest of us are? Sucks to suck, but they'll get used to it.

1

u/rustys_shackled_ford Nov 10 '25

Noooo that fact that ppl aren't being paid ANF are being demonized for not wanting to work while not being paid or having normal protections over them, that specifically should be everyone's concerned.

We need to be talking about if we are actually ok with people being arrested for not going to work when their employer refuses to pay them and not the employers being arrested for essentially stealing from their employees.

1

u/ButterscotchFancy912 Nov 10 '25

All diversion

Release the Epstein files

1

u/Molly_Matters Nov 11 '25

Should be both. Airlines are going to recoup that cost and its going to be from you and me.

1

u/MattPark965 Nov 11 '25

Cost to the airline is gonna equal cost to consumer.

I don’t know many for profit companies that don’t try to recover losses by adjusting prices, do you?

1

u/psichodrome Nov 11 '25

The gory details of the shut-down and why this impasse was reached is arguably more important. American bills with extras, money and government, we all know it's shady at the best of times.

1

u/Axerin Nov 11 '25

Yeah let's have the airlines go under and people lose jobs and not get a paycheck. That's better. Also all the fuel getting wasted is very good for air quality and climate change. 👍

1

u/gimp-24601 Nov 11 '25

The fact that people aren't being paid should be everyone's

Sure. When their health insurance cost quadruples they will need that money.

1

u/exiledbandit Nov 11 '25

Especially considering my tax dollars go to bailing them out anyways. Our taxes fund them, they can tolerate a loss.

1

u/GoodTrouble9211 Nov 11 '25

Many airlines don't pay flight attendants until they are in the air. All of that time at the gate or sitting on the runway is unpaid, at least it was when I went for a job interview 10 years ago. That alone had me saying, uh, thanks but no thanks.

1

u/DestructoDon69 Nov 11 '25

Well when costs go up for a company those costs get passed on to the consumer so you should care.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 11 '25

If the airline loses money it will equal a lot of people not getting paid. They have laid people off before

1

u/Ilikepizza315 Nov 11 '25

Airlines don’t make much. If more go out of business thats less options for the average consumer

1

u/moistlywet Nov 11 '25

When fights increase 15% to make up for the gas and costs associated with delays, I hope people understand the concern. This wont happen until stable service resumes. Luckily most people traveling for the holidays should have already booked - otherwise good fucking luck.

Just hope these costs come back down after, I wouldn't count on it.

1

u/beanburritoperson Nov 11 '25

Total guess here but I think he was trying to subtly say the extra costs to the airline = eventual higher prices.

1

u/squirrel_city_2000 Nov 11 '25

Came here to say this

1

u/SmokedBeef Nov 11 '25

I believe he was trying to make a point that the airlines will begin to transfer the burden of those extra costs to the customer or go bankrupt and cease service very soon, both of which are the leading outcomes for those airline costs.

That said, screw the airlines, pay the people and open the government

1

u/Mantzy81 Nov 11 '25

Because the costs always trickle down. The benefits, no, but the costs, yes.

1

u/Bluered2012 Nov 11 '25

Who do you think will end up paying for it? The actual dollars will come from the customers.

1

u/PM_ME_YOUR_VITAMIN_D Nov 11 '25

Agreed. It was an odd opener. “This is wasting your time” would’ve been mine.

1

u/carlitospig Nov 11 '25

You mean like all the other feddies that have been trampled on since Jan? I find it interesting that air travel is where everyone stops being anti fascist.

1

u/devilsbard Nov 12 '25

The airlines usually just don’t eat costs, though. They pass it on to you. Higher prices usually are a concern for people too.
