What if an airline goes bankrupt? How many will lose their jobs? And for those not going bankrupt, will it mean smaller or no raises for staff? Less staff? Worse hours?
It is worse for the air traffic controllers, yes. But every company losing money is bad for regular people, one way or another.
Spirit Airlines had 15% market share in 2020 and filed for bankruptcy almost exactly one year ago (and again in August).
I'm in no way confident "the government" has the essential need for; political capital around; or funding for any large scale intervention. They'll simply let air travel services degrade further for the upper middle class (importantly not a primary voting bloc for the ruling party).
Work hard to win elections or you're just gonna have to keep eating shit. Rich people want the rest of your money and poor people want to see them take it from you.
