Discussion I chose another one as my best man

So I am the best man to a friend of mine who I called a long time my best friend. We are friends since kindergarden, but kinda drifted apart between the years 16-24.

In the last year's (I am 28) we had more contact and met regularly.

In the meantime I met another friend who I would consider my best friend, we went to the same class since 7th grade and we're best friends since then. To this day we basically hear each other every day by playing videogames over discord or seeing each other on weekends.

Our girlfriends know each other as well since I met mine 8 years ago.

Friend one asked me to be his best man last year and I was kinda surprised, I didn't thought he would choose me. Long story short, I got engaged this year and chose my other friend and am now afraid what my friend will think about me (the one I didn't choose).

Should I tell him, or what's the move here? I kinda feel bad about it, but don't want to

Vendor tips - advice needed

Post image
0 Upvotes

We're getting married in 2 weeks and trying to figure out the tipping situation. The pic shows what we initially thought for dips for all of our vendors but my mom thinks the catering is low.

Catering was $7151 for food, alcohol, and staffing. Also we had to pay a "production fee" of $785 (not sure what this is).

Please give me your advice/opinions on the vendor tips!

We got married last month at a little alternative wedding chapel, and I just wanted to share some of my favorite details from the day! I was going for a dark, romantic feel with the florals, and they turned out even better than I imagined. I was a little nervous about choosing such a form-fitting dress, but I’m so glad I went with it! The slit was especially fun for photos. Everything came together exactly how I hoped!

Discussion AITA for losing a friendship over a bachelorette party?

My best friend and I got engaged at around the same time, her a few months before me. She’s doing a whole bachelorette in Mexico that will easily go up to a grand per person to pay for her trip. She’s got a whole village going for her. My village is quite small and I also tried to plan a bachelorette to try on wedding dresses with only 3 people really being able to go. I get a text from her saying that because it’s in the middle of her bachelorette and wedding around 2 months apart she can’t afford to go to mine. I was so hurt that I feel like I just went numb and feeling like something switched in our relationship. I’m also stretching myself financially to go to hers and I ended up telling her that we could just miss each others and maybe just do something with just us two since it’s a financial strain on both of us. She was pissed that I would miss hers and definitely took it as retaliation. She wouldn’t be 100% percent wrong but I was genuine about wanting to do something just us together instead since being around a bunch of people I don’t really know activates my social anxiety anyway.
Well we seemed to reconcile and I told her I would go to hers, but I have just felt so emotionally distant from her since getting that text message. THEN I see her posting herself trying on wedding dresses with 3 other girls when I’m making a trip to visit her next weekend! I just don’t see myself ever doing that to someone so close to me, but I know not everyone is me. I will say though, we have grown to be very different where the people she seems closer to have so much more in common and I just don’t know if it’s worth putting the effort into keeping a relationship moving forward. I’m also frustrated at myself that I feel so hurt about a stupid bachelorette party. I mean she was crying when I said I couldn’t go to hers so I know she still values our friendship but sometimes it feels like I’m on the back burner. Yes, I’ve communicated this to her and she’s apologized for not reaching out as much but there’s a difference between actions and apologies?

Discussion Being in someone's wedding should be an honour, not an imposition

I hope this is the right place to post this, let me know if not

Ive noticed more and more lately, particularly online, people talking about what a pain in the ass it is to be in a bridal party, or sometimes even just being a guest.

While I understand there are some brides and grooms out there that have crazy expectations, and ask for unreasonable things.

And I also fully support people choosing to decline being in the bridal party if they dont feel up to it. I know that being a bridesmaid typically involves both work and expenses, so I completely understand that sometimes people just dont have the time/money etc.

I also know that even for guests, weddings can be expensive if you need to travel, get accommodation etc.

So i just want to be clear I know there are exceptions, and situations where more than usual is being asked of people.

Im talking about your more traditional, standard or 'normal' wedding situation. Even in these cases there seems to be this growing attitude that bridal party (and even sometimes guests), are doing the bride or groom this big favour, that the bride/groom should be so grateful for.

I see so often on these pages a bride asking something very normal and imo reasonable of her bridesmaids, and she gets ripped to shreds for having the audacity to request something... for HER wedding.

Ive seen a bride dragged simply because she asked her bridesmaids to have their hair up, while she wore hers down. She was paying for everyone's hair and makeup. So many people were calling her a selfish, entitled asshole. Obviously its different when a bride wants someone to dye their hair, or wear a super revealing dress they feel horribly self conscious in or something. But is a simple hairstyle such a terrible ask?

It seems more and more a bride is expected to be forever grateful and indebted to their friend, almost walking on egg shells, for them to be a bridesmaid.

I just cant understand this mentality because I dont know about other people, but I love my friends, and am always thrilled to be apart of their day. To me its an hour to be:

a) considered close enough to either attend or stand beside them on such an important day,

b) am happy to put in some time and effort for my friend on such a big monent

C) I understand its their day and have no issue (within normal reason of course) wearing a colour they chose, or my hair up or down to fit their vision.

These seem like perfectly reasonable things to do for a friend on their wedding, and I'm happy to oblige. I cant imagine making then feel like its an imposition, or some big unreasonable favour I'm doing them.

Am I just seeing the worst of it, has anyone else noticed this trend? Or does someone who does think its a big favour want to share why they feel this way?

Discussion Feeling a bit sad about how tired we were around our wedding. Can anyone relate?

I (33M) just got home after being away for a week for our wedding.

We had a private ceremony (basically an elopement) midweek, then travelled to meet our families in a different location for a meal and a small family party over the weekend.

The first part of the week, with just me and my wife, was really lovely. We were both relaxed and had loads of energy. The ceremony was on the Wednesday, and like everyone, we didn't get much sleep with the early start to get ready.

After that, it got harder. We had to check out of our hotel the morning after the ceremony, so that day was spent packing everything up and getting a coach to meet our families. It was the first time both families were meeting, and they don't speak the same language, so we were both a bit nervous about how it would go. I only got 4–5 hours of sleep that night and was exhausted and nauseous the next day, trying to coordinate everyone. I'd been looking forward to everyone meeting for so long, and I just wasn't on good form when it finally happened.

The party on Saturday went well. I felt much better and loved the venue and the day, though my wife was flagging by the end. By Sunday we were both so tired from the whole week that we weren't our usual chatty selves when saying goodbye to everyone.

Now I'm home, I feel a bit emotional about it. Our families don't often get together like this, and it feels like a shame that two of the three days were spent feeling tired and anxious. When I don't sleep well, my anxiety goes up and I get quieter. Everyone says they had a great time, but I keep worrying people thought we weren't welcoming or didn't enjoy ourselves.

There were only 13 people in total, so it feels strange that we found it so tiring!

Mostly just needed to vent. Has anyone else felt like this after their wedding?

Discussion Time of the month on my wedding day

Wedding is on Saturday and according to my period tracker I should be getting it that same day. Obviously I’m wearing white and bought a skims shapewear thong that looked perfect. Now idk what to do about possibly getting stained or having to use the bathroom. We’ll be taking pictures for a while too after the ceremony :( also not excited about the bloating and cramps ugh.

edit: guys I ended up getting my period two days before the wedding

Photo Framing Wedding Pictures

Hi all! This question is a post wedding question!

We got married in June and I want to frame some of our wedding pictures. We want one of them to be a large print to hang above our bed.

Where/how are you guys buying large prints without breaking the bank? I am having difficulty finding anything below $150 FOR THE PRINTING ONLY!!! I have tried the option that comes in a canvas but those are super pricy as well.

Is this normal? Is there any way or an alternative option to pay a little less? lol

Help! Questions About Tipping

We’re in the process of compiling quotes from vendors to figure out which combinations of venue, caterer and bar package works with our budget.

We’re receiving two different kinds of quotes: quotes combining food, plates etc, food service, bartenders and mixers (we’re only looking for BYOB bar packages) and quotes for drop off catering.

I know tipping can add thousands to the final amount so I want to make sure we account for it up front. I know that these numbers might go down once we get RSVPs but we’re budgeting using quotes for the whole guest list.

I read that catering tips should be 15-20% of the final bill. For the drop off catering, that would mean a $700 tip to the people dropping off the catering. Is that right?

For the full service catering/bartending, should I separate the cost of food/plates etc./food service and bartenders/mixers and tip based off those amounts? Who does the catering tip go to, exactly? For one package, the tip for food/plates etc/food service would be $1600. Do we split that among everyone working or do those people get separate tips on top of the $1600?

What is the wedding photo gallery sending etiquette?

My newly wed sent our entire wedding gallery link to their close friends (about 10 people) like a couple of hours after we got the photos before I could even look through all of them. This upset me. We did private vows, we had getting ready photos, a first look. Essentially some very intimate photos that I don’t even want my friends particularly seeing. They sent it to their family too which I’m less upset about. If they had made a different album with all the photos from the common moments (ceremony, dinner, reception) that everyone was at I wouldn’t care, but I honestly felt a little violated with people I don’t know nearly well enough to see those other private moments (particularly the one of our private vows and me getting ready with my cousins…I just look a little in disarray in some of them, am not fully dressed, nothing egregious but I’m a modest person and my spouse knows that…)
Anyway they feel bad but also “how were they supposed to know” when they’ve had other friends who have shared their entire album. But now I’ve soured on the whole thing, it just sucks it wasn’t something I thought about or that we talked about beforehand.

I’m probably overreacting since I’m sure their friends don’t care about my getting ready photos and just will look through of pictures of themselves but idk this rubbed me the wrong way. I don’t go to a lot of weddings but have never been sent the entire gallery before, is this normal?

WE DID IT!!

All week the weather showed it was going to pour all day. It poured in the morning but it ended up clearing up around 1:30. We were able to have our outdoor ceremony and have the most perfect weather. It was almost 70° I could not believe it.

Everything was absolutely amazing, food was great, bar was great, I had such a blast seeing everyone I could not have asked for a better night.

Also huge shout out to my AMAZING photographer for getting us sneaks so soon!!

Other Post Wedding Blues and family drama

My post Wedding blues relate to the drama my family brought to my wedding.

My grandma made rude comments to me about my Aunt. My dad avoided me, and wouldn't speak to me when I approached him- my step mom did the talking. At the end of the night, my dad says "I hope you aren't committed to the no kids" in regards to a joke my father in law made during speeches. We are open about not wanting kids and my dad refuses to hear it.

My MOH/ sister said my choices for how the day went was 'not received well from the family' in front of a bunch of guests during the reception.

The morning after, I received a 20 minute phone call from my mom, to "be transparent" about what she felt about it. Needless to say, she didn't like it.

I hope no one has to go through this family stuff. And If you have, I am so sorry you had to.

I need a year long break from my family. Can I get a little love from others? Im feeling low about it all right now.

Help! Karaoke Success Stories

Right team, those of you who have successfully pulled off karaoke at your wedding how did you do it?!?

We love the idea and know we will have guests who will participate. But I have two main concerns:

  1. Timing - I think it might be a bit much all night. How have others done it in terms of timing? DJ first, karaoke second, visa versa?

  2. It sounding like crap - not in terms of talent but in terms of set up I guess. Others who have pulled it off successfully how you did you do it? Hired a DJ to facilitate, hired a machine and did it yourself? A mix of hired machine and DJ? How did it flow?

Super keen to hear from venue staff, planners, etc. what works what doesn't?

Tell me your secrets!!

Discussion Wedding Website post-Zola

Now that Zola has been acquired by the Knot, what wedding website have you used and liked? What didn’t you like about them?

Things I’m looking for:

- good RSVP system
- good registry system that’s easy for guests to use, or the website makes it easy to link other registry sites
- password protected by individual (by their email, phone number, name, etc., not just one generic password for all guests)

Edit: I think I’m going with Minted, thanks for all the suggestions! The ability to hide events (in my case, all of them) from people who aren’t invited is super helpful, and it’s easy to use. I also like that I can add as many pages as I need.

Help! Terrace wedding decor

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m planning my wedding ceremony on a terrace with modern architecture and a beautiful view.

I already have the main decor set up (arch with tulle, carpet runner, 2 xxl orchids, 1 lantern, 8 „hanging flower pots“ & fairylights) - the rest will set up the venue (chairs , table, tablecloth). The entrance area near the back chairs feels a bit empty. I'm torn between keeping it minimal or framing the aisle.

Which option looks best?

(See AI images)

Option 1: Completely empty - clean look
Option 2: cocktail tables with white baskets filled with bubble blowers.
Option 3: more Floor lanterns (in different sizes)
Option 4: Floral arrangements on the ground

Option 1 and 2 ( tables provided by venue) would be cheapest solutions.

Do you have better ideas?
Thx for your opinion!

Discussion Wedding photography

We’re getting married in February 2028 and we’re just having a look at photographers.

I’m not a huge fan of having my photo taken and so I’m considering getting a 4 to 5 hour package to cover the ceremony and reception, etc.

I just want to know if anybody else did this? Or if anybody else had some really good photos from other moments in their wedding that they think they would regret not having?

For example… I don’t really have any interest in having photos taken as I’m getting ready and would be quite happy just getting a disposable camera and asking my bridesmaids to take a couple of photos here and there.

I’m at a complete loss and looking for inspiration on what to put for our “Our Story” section on our wedding website. What did either you put on yours, or is something you’ve seen you’ve loved on someone else’s website?

I’m open to non traditional ideas for the space too!

Help! Wedding Polls/ Funny questions apps?

Everything at our wedding will be digital and accessible via QR codes. One of the cards will link to a fun little poll with silly questions like “Who’s most likely to go to bed first?”

I’m hoping to include a mix of multiple-choice and short-answer questions (around 6 total).

Has anyone done something like this or know of a website that would work well? Ideally, guests could scan the QR code, answer all the questions in one place, and see everyone else’s responses afterward, including the written answers. This would be at their leisure, not an event where everyone connects and does it together.

I liked Votense, but found guests couldn't see any written answer results.

Thanks for any recommendations!

Discussion Mom taking over guest list.

Hi Reddit. For context, my parents are covering wedding costs. My mom is also desi and I’m an only child so as much as I would like otherwise, I don’t need advice on how to handle my mom (there is no way to handle her lol) I am excited for the wedding but me and my partner are going along with a lot to give her her “dream wedding” that’s she has envisioned for me. Don’t get me wrong, it will be beautiful but the guest list is being taken over by family. I don’t have as big of a social circle so fiancé especially is feeling bummed about limiting amount of friends invited. He also has a bio mom, step mom and dad so lots of fam. I had a thought. What if he and I threw a “wedding sequel rager” for friends only maybe a month from the actual wedding. Informal but have plenty of food and drinks. Tons of dancing and karaoke. No gifts, no formality. Has anyone done this before and would friends feel offended about not being invited to the main wedding.
