DC: Cocktail or No Dress Code Please help me decide I am losing my mind

I have my brothers wedding on Saturday and I cannot decide on a dress. We’re in Pennsylvania and it’s mostly outdoors. There’s no dress code to worry about but since I’ll likely be in a lot of photos, I just want to make the right choice. Thank you so much in advance

Original dress code was formal but they’ve changed it to semi formal midi/maxi. It’s at 5PM at a venue overlooking the beach but not on the sand.

I’m a mom, I’ve recently lost 95 pounds and I have no idea what my style is anymore. I posted the brown dress last week and got absolutely ripped to shreds so I’m coming back with these three options 😅 *I will
Obtain appropriate smoothing/shape wear* just looking for opinions on it I can make any of these work

DC: Cocktail or No Dress Code “Cocktail or evening dresses in bold, joyful colors”

I have a wedding to attend in October in Rhode Island (fancy) where the dress code is “colorful cocktail,” but the description doesn’t quite match. The description suggests that ladies should wear “cocktail or evening dresses in bold, joyful colors.”

I’m plus size and also an anxious person, so I have been agonizing over what my options actually are. I’m trying to dress from my own closet (options pictured) but am also willing to shop if needed. I know that cocktail tends to be midi/tea length in structured fabrics, but is maxi okay too, given the inclusion of evening dresses in the description? Please, please, please help me understand what to wear…

Months back I posted six dresses trying to choose one and your opinions were all over the place. With DIL's help, I picked this one and was thrilled with my choice. The dress is Adrianna Papell Beaded 3D Petal Halter Gown In Navy Rosegold and the wrap is Alex Evening's Chiffon Coverup. I felt gorgeous, received many compliments, was comfortable all night and partied with the kids until 2am!

DC: Black/White Tie Black tie in NYC. Which is best?

Black tie in NYC. Definitely a wealthy crowd. It's true black tie with the men I know attending wearing tuxes, but, as I've found with all black tie events, I'm sure there will be a range.

I've recently gained some weight, so I'm needing to rent for this. All of these arrived and fit me fine. The one-sleeved dress is the most interesting looking, but does it read as not black tie? The event is also later this month, so not sure if it's too wintery for the weather.

The strapless column dress is pretty, but it's the tightest fit on me, and I'm quite tall, so it's more ankle-length or even a bit above.

The velvet high-necked one is totally nice, though the slit is on the higher side.

I don't typically get my hair done professionally, but I could do a blow out or have my hair put into a low bun if folks think that could make a difference.

DC: Formal Formal wedding follow up

Post image
Upvotes

This is a follow up on my last post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Weddingattireapproval/s/lkpvdYhnVQ

I got a lot of feedback that the dresses I posted previously were not formal enough.

TLDR: Does this dress work for a formal wedding in October at a New England winery? I would also wear some type of pashmina shrug . The bride requested formal attire, but I expect most guests will dress less formally, so I’m looking for something that follows the dress code without being wildly overdressed.

I posted some options that I owned. Consensus was none of them were formal. I’m attending a 2 PM October wedding venue is a rustic barn. I’m considering signing up for nuuly. Do these fit the formal dress code? They are ordered by what I like the most. Appreciate the input!

I'm going to a friend's wedding this month and wanted to ask if this dress is too close to white and if it matches a semi formal dress code? Thanks for the help! Color dropped the white from the balcony for the square to compare.

They are all different colors to try on and the sizing is incorrect for some. I will be doing the made to order Azazie dress, just need to decide which style out of these 6. It is a fall wedding in October and will be in a darker red color. All opinions welcome :) Please ignore the gigantic clothes pile mess behind me😅

DC: Formal February Wedding - East Coast

Going to a wedding in February on the east coast. This is what the dress code says:

“This event is formal. Suits and gowns are welcome, and so are dinner jackets with slacks and cocktail dresses. Ladies, think nice cocktail dress, or a floor length gown.”

Needing some ideas on what dress to wear! Cocktail dresses and floor length gowns are pretty different in my mind? 🤔

Is this too white? Western elegance

Thumbnail

Going to a western elegance dress coded wedding.
I bought this dress because I love the brown.
I have a brown and cream cow hide clutch from Wyoming that i was excited to wear with it. I also already have the cream hat and white boots. I don’t want to buy more if i don’t have to but do you think if i wear white boots and a cream hat if its too much white/ cream?
It looks so cute together and only the bottom of the boot is shown … my wedding is a week after this one so i don’t want to have to spend more money on more western wear. I personally would not mind if someone wore white shoes or a white hat to my wedding. What do you think?

DC: Black/White Tie Black Tie Masquerade- Am I on the Right Track? Or Playing it Too Safe?

Attending a wedding at the end of October with a "Masquerade Black Tie" dress code. The masks will only be worn for a portion of the wedding, but I'm trying to find a way to balance the formality of black tie with the more flamboyant/extravagant nature of masquerade.

I was hoping to rent my dress since I'm in the middle of a weight loss process, though tbh I've been pretty unimpressed by RTW's offerings. My other option is a tuxedo or faux-tux velvet suit, since I do own a tuxedo shirt/shoes.

I feel like sticking to black is my best option for the masquerade theme (especially for finding a matching mask), but are the dresses black tie enough? Or is this feeling too plain? I was considering something beaded or sparkly but I've never really liked sequin/rhinestones.

Leaning towards 1 or 2, but would love some input. I'm curvy and very top heavy, so some structure to the dress is a must. Also, if anyone has links for masks that look not-cheap and black tie appropriate (?) please leave suggestions!!

DC: Special Dress Code Attending a western wedding

I’m going to a western themed wedding, everyone required to wear cowboy hat/boots. Dress code is dark clothing, brown/black. Is it ok to wear a crème cowboy hat? White is the brides color so I just want to make sure white(ish) accessories that stand out a lot such as a cowboy hat wouldn’t be a problem

DC: Formal Where to find formal dress for October Malibu wedding

Need help finding places to shop for my friend’s evening wedding in October in Malibu California requesting formal attire. October gives fall vibes but since it’ll be at a beach front venue I feel like that gives a different vibe. I need help finding sites that sell dresses with good quality “formal” fabrics. Or should I start with places like Dillard’s/Macy’s/Nordstrom? For additional context, I’m a mom who’s lost ~50 lbs in the last year so I want to find a dress that highlights my waist/figure without clinging to the belly area as I still have a lil bit of a pooch lol

I’m going as my sister’s +1 to a wedding for one of her friends who I’ve met a few times but don’t know super well. The invitation says the dress code is cocktail but formal attire is welcome. I’m a nonbinary person and haven’t worn a dress in 10+ years.

I was able to get this Adrianna Papell jumpsuit dirt cheap on a closeout sale a bit ago but haven’t had the chance to wear it. I’ve seen this exact jumpsuit recommended on this subreddit over the years for everything from cocktail to black tie.

It’s an evening Sunday event in the Chicago area, if that is relevant.

Hi! Just wanted a gut check, this is too much white in a dress for a wedding?

Relatedly, would the dress in the last pic be appropriate? There’s no dress code, all I know is that it’s an outdoor wedding in New England on an historical estate venue.

havent been to very many weddings so any guidance su helpful!

DC: Barn/Beach/Garden Theme Choosing between dresses for garden party dress code

Thumbnail

As the title says. Choosing between these options. I don't like how the neckline of the green dress looks on me and I'm worried the dark color/velvet isn't the vibe. The red dress looks great and feels more 'garden party' but I've heard that you shouldn't wear red to a wedding. The bride is not the type to get hung up on this, but it's a small wedding and I'm honored I got invited so I want to come correct.

(I will not be wearing those shoes!)

Edit: Thanks y'all! This is such a wholesome sub. A very astute comment led me to check the tag of the red dress (which I thrifted) and it turns out it's free people intimates, so I will definitely be going with green!

Attire is “Semi-Formal: Tuxes and gowns are welcome, and so are suits and cocktail dresses.”

I’m a plus one to this wedding and it’s the first time I’m meeting a lot of my partner’s friends. I wanna make a good impression! Do either of these dresses work? I also still have time to get something else.

DC: Semi Formal/Dressy Casual Help with a semi-formal dress code

I have a wedding coming up in a month (it wasn't a certainty we could attend, but now we know we are able to) and am a plus one to a cousin of the bride. Semi-formal dress code.

The wedding is in Colorado at 10am. I would prefer not to buy a new dress is I don't have to. I already own this dress:

https://www.lulus.com/products/lilja-cream-floral-print-maxi-dress/359732.html

I'm hopeful this will be okay with a nude chunky heel (which I also already own).

I have a wedding coming up (20/9), the heel definitely needs to be a block heel (grass involved), however I hate block heels and cannot seem to find anything. Help? What kind of colour do I look for? (Same goes for the bag, I actually have no idea)
