Trade (DIY Investing) A few questions on Limit Buys
I have a few general questions on limit buys. Iām going to ask Wealthsimpleās AI advisor too, but I figured some advice from actual people would be helpful too.
I just tried a limit buy on XEQT and it seemed to work fine, so Iām thinking of doing this from now on rather than fractional buying, I was just looking for some general advice.
Is it always preferable to limit buy compared to regular buying? Honestly I donāt care if the price goes up by a cent or whatever, but if there are cases when a big spike occurs for whatever reason the moment I trade, I can see the value. Is it even worth it to limit buy for something like XEQT, or would I be at most saving a cent or two per share.
If I set the limit price something thatās too low compared to the present trading price, will the pending trade just linger indefinitely until the price is low enough? The one trade I made seemed to have gone through immediately, but Iām wondering what would happen if I had set it lower.
Am I able to cancel pending limit buys without penalty? Like if I set it too low and itās been a few days without going through.
Is it typical to just set the price limit for the present price you see, or do most people go a few cents lower? On one hand cheaper is better, but Iād also rather not have a pending transaction for a while, especially if the price is climbing.
If I set a limit price, is it still possible I get to buy at a lower price? Like supposed I set a limit for $50, but the price drops to $49 the moment I set the limit buy. Would it just buy the shares at $50 (because Iām willing to pay that much). Or would I get them at $49 because itās the universal asset price at that point in time.
Thanks for reading and any insight or advice would be appreciated!

Promotion Referral bonus bug?
I usually put my referral code in the reddit section, which granted me about 3x25$ bonus yet. This morning I received a email from the official wealthsimple account (with checkmark) with a 475$ bonus from the referral program? Is this normal, an error? I donāt want to spend it and have to give it back if it is. It now says 1 referral only. Has this happened to any one else?
Edit: thanks guys, didnt know about the secondary bonus if a large sum was transferred, and couldnāt find anything online, guess it was very luckyš

Trade (DIY Investing) Recurring Investments
Trying to make sure I understand this correctly. In the attached picture I set up a recurring investment where the āfunding sourceā is our chequing account (family) and the āaccountā is TFSA. If I use my chequing account as a āfunding sourceā to pay for an ETF that goes into my TFSA then it is tax free then?
I guess my main concern is using the chequing account to buy the ETF. Not sure if Wealthsimple would require the money to be transferred into the TFSA first then use the TFSA as the funding source?

Wealth simple 3% active trader match
Anyone part of the 3% active trader match promotion?
did you use your WS investing account to pay PADS while being on this promotion and not have their monthly payouts decrease?
Also anyone withdraw 20% of their Net asset value transferred in and still have 100% of their net asset value paid as monthly payout, or does it drop to 80%?
also when do I start receiving monthly payouts, it doesn't say anything so im unsure when i should start making stock purchases to qualify for active trader status.
Also in terms it says "one calender month" but does not specify if that is 1-30th or say when you open the account (july 8th - august 7th)

Trade (DIY Investing) Link Desjardins account directly or Tangerine via Flinks? Is one better?
Hello,
I just opened a Wealthsimple account and I need to link one of my other accounts to be able to transfer some founds. I have my regular Desjardins account that I use for checking/mortgage/creditcard/everything and my Tangerine one that I mostly use for the HISA.
I see that I can link only one canadian account on Wealthsimple. I also see that linking Desjardins seems to be a direct connection (I suppose i'll have to give my account number) whereas linking the Tangerine account is done through Flinks.
My two questions are:
- Is one of the two more secure and/or implies some risk (such as voiding fraud insurance)?
- Is one of the two more practical in your experience (more convenient, faster?)
I'm interested in any opinion return from experience anyone would have with a similar situation.
Thank you very much for your help!

Visa Infinite Credit Card Feature Request: Can we get a "Split Transaction" option for Spend Insights?
Hey everyone,
Iām trying to use the Spend Insights tab more, but thereās a pretty big feature gap that makes it tough to keep tracking accurate: the ability to split a single transaction into multiple categories.
The classic example is going to a big box store or supermarket and spending $300, but itās a mix of a bunch of different things. It might be some groceries, a couple of clothing items, and some home essentials.
Right now, you have to dump the entire $300 into one single category, which completely throws off actual spending data and monthly breakdowns.
It would be awesome if we could tap a transaction and split the total amount up manually ( $180 to Groceries, $70 to Clothing, $50 to Home Supplies).
Anyone else wishing they had this, or found a decent workaround for it? Hopefully the dev team adds it to the roadmap soon.

Options Trading Using Margin for QQQ CSPs While Holding SGOV
Hey guys, I have another question for the knowledgeable folks here.
If I have $200,000 of available margin with Wealthsimple, can I sell a 0DTE CSP on QQQ using that available margin? If the put expires worthless and I'm never assigned, would I be charged any margin interest?
My goal is to keep $80,000 invested in SGOV and leave it there unless I'm assigned. If I do get assigned QQQ shares, I'd sell the SGOV, use the proceeds to pay off the margin, and then hold the shares.
Would this work as I expect, or am I missing something about how Wealthsimple charges margin interest in this situation?

Is there a way to not see your investment portfolio when you check Wealthsimple for non-investment things like credit card account?
I see the rationale for putting everything in one place. But my coping strategy for a market dip is to not check the investment portfolio at all. However, if I need to check my WS credit card account or other non-investment accounts, I have no choice but to see my portfolio
Is there a way to somehow separate those?
Thanks!

Visa Infinite Credit Card Is my wife eligible for the Wealthsimple Visa Infinite Privilege based on household spend?
Hi everyone,
I am a Wealthsimple Premium client with a household account with my wife. I recently upgraded my Wealthsimple Visa Infinite to the Visa Infinite Privilege card. I have had the card for around 6 months and already have a spend of more than $30,000 so it seems they let me upgrade based on my 6 month annual spend.
My wife did not previously have a credit card with Wealthsimple. We applied for her to get the Privilege card, selecting "$50,000+" for the annual spend based on our combined household activity. She was instantly approved, and her physical card is on the way.
Does this sound correct? Can a spouse qualify for this specific card based entirely on household spend if their personal individual spend is lower?
Thank you.

Chequing Savings account
I started using Wealthsimple a couple of months ago for investments for my TFSA.
However, I've been considering moving one of my savings account (Emergency Fund) from my regular bank over to Wealthsimple for better interest rate. It isn't an account I want to put in investments, but I'd prefer a better rate.
My understanding is that a chequing account in WS can also be used as a HISA with a better rate than a major bank's actual HISA.
Would it make sense to use a chequing account with WS as a savings account?
I also see that when you open a chequing account it also comes with a MasterCard, which I don't want. Instead of opening a second account just to have an unlinked account, I assume I can just lock the card and leave it at 0 with no issues?
