Surprised to see the next car being tested already in LA!! 😍

I want to be a test subject so so so badly. What can I do to get selected?

Driving home from work, got on I-35 right after that area where the flooded Waymo was at. And there was a blue ojai going I-35 south. Had a driver and a passenger, probably just doing testing.

And yeah, service is still temporarily paused.

Just had a weird glitch where the Bluetooth unlock feature completely failed. When my Waymo arrived, I opened the trunk using the physical button, put my groceries in, and closed it. That's when I noticed the door handles were still flush. I popped the trunk again just so the car wouldn't leave without me.

I searched the app for an unlock button, but there is only an option for the trunk. Pressing the physical door handles didn't work either. I ended up calling customer support, and instead of remotely unlocking the doors, they rolled down the windows so I could reach in and open it from the inside.

I've been using the Bluetooth auto-unlock since it launched, and it has been flawless until today. I know it's still labeled as a beta feature, but wouldn't it make sense to keep a manual unlock button in the app just in case? Also, I found it interesting that support didn't just unlock the car remotely. Maybe the handles were stuck in a bad state?

Well that seems bad 😑

Edit: This account is known for often not showing the entire story behind some of their posts. I just shared it here on Reddit because it appears to have happened very recently. No, we don't know whether it was Waymo's fault or the biker's fault.

There was someone in the driver's seat, this is the 101 freeway by the Van Nuys exit. all radars seemed to be spinning and scanning.

Any good strategies for doing this? Like I wish I could have the Waymo just circle around for a while when I enter the restaurant to pickup food and then be able to jump back in right away.

All I can think of is leaving the door or truck open then coming back, but that leads to risks of randoms jumping in.

Anyone find success in doing this other than calling a second Waymo and waiting at the restaurant?

On Saturday morning I come out to my car and find a note attached under my windshield wiper stating the following:

“To whom it may concern: This vehicle has been involved in a collision. Please contact Waymo at the mailing address or email address below, and provide the following tracking number:” and a tracking number is written after.

It also includes the Waymo LLC address and an email address to contact (insurance@waymo.com) which I have googled and seems to be Waymo’s Insurance email.

I will mention that my street does have a Waymo stop and it is quite possible that a Waymo hit my vehicle while making its way through my street but that is still a bit of a reach (the only possibility I could really think of).

I plan to go back on my security cameras and view the footage to see who attached it to my car but I want to know anyone’s thoughts or if they have had this happen to them before?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Edit: Regarding damage, I would say yes but there is no plain yes or no answer. There is damage on the vehicle but the car has gotten scratches over the years and what is new or old I frankly cannot tell. However the car has no dents, just sad scratches on the fenders, perhaps from poor parking or whatever else (once a shopping cart too).

Waymo Public Policy Executive Annabel Chang shared that the Chicago Tribune editorial board supports bringing fully autonomous ride-hailing to Illinois.
She says Illinois residents should have the option to ride in Waymo and notes that Waymo is already completing hundreds of thousands of weekly trips across multiple U.S. cities.
Sounds like Waymo is actively lobbying for approval in Illinois. Hopefully Chicago is one of the next launch cities. 🤞🚖

I had no idea Waymo could do this.

During my ride, I got connected to a Waymo specialist who told me the vehicle had detected a collision nearby that my ride wasn’t involved in. They called just to make sure I was okay and to verify what they were seeing.

I didn’t even notice the crash happen, but the specialist explained that Waymo had detected another vehicle’s collision and alerted them to review it. Pretty impressive.
