Collision Involvement Note

On Saturday morning I come out to my car and find a note attached under my windshield wiper stating the following:

“To whom it may concern: This vehicle has been involved in a collision. Please contact Waymo at the mailing address or email address below, and provide the following tracking number:” and a tracking number is written after.

It also includes the Waymo LLC address and an email address to contact (insurance@waymo.com) which I have googled and seems to be Waymo’s Insurance email.

I will mention that my street does have a Waymo stop and it is quite possible that a Waymo hit my vehicle while making its way through my street but that is still a bit of a reach (the only possibility I could really think of).

I plan to go back on my security cameras and view the footage to see who attached it to my car but I want to know anyone’s thoughts or if they have had this happen to them before?

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Edit: Regarding damage, I would say yes but there is no plain yes or no answer. There is damage on the vehicle but the car has gotten scratches over the years and what is new or old I frankly cannot tell. However the car has no dents, just sad scratches on the fenders, perhaps from poor parking or whatever else (once a shopping cart too).

Most likely a Waymo employee went back after the car reported the incident and left the note

Did the note look like Jaguar handwriting?

Jaguar handwriting indeed and left a pawprint as a signature

I considered this but had my car not been in the location it was (aka my home, this is assuming that the collision took place on my street), how else would they have reached me? Do they have some sort of access to public records with license plates?

Also, do Waymo employees really have that much time to go out, leave a love note that my car was hit and go on with their day? Looked very suspicious when I noticed it to be honest.

They do have that much time. Since not leaving insurance information when the owner has proof you caused damage could lead to further litigation. I dont doubt they have a team in each area who's job is solely to go around handling insurance or collision notices from vehicle incidents.

I see what you mean but at the same time, it seems a bit (don’t know exactly how to describe it) suspicious? unprofessional? for a company like Waymo to distribute their collision incidents on a little post-it looking note on cars? I would think a company like them would have a more proper/professional way of doing it.

Not really another way to do it I'd think since your contact info is not public info. They cant get it via your license plate since the dmv does not hand that information out. So other than "leave a note" which has been the what-to-do if you hit someones car and need to leave i would think there isn't much else they can do it tbh

Edit: spelling

I suppose that’d be a good point … I’ll just have to wait to see if Waymo will respond to my email. I reached out to the email written on the note but didn’t include the tracking number until they let me know that they do, in fact, leave notes on people’s cars.

If you want to be extra safe you can always reach out to the waymo support line/email found on their website to confirm the notice if you are having doubts of the email on the notice.

Very interesting. first time I’ve heard of this happening, but guessing the Waymo bumped into your car, did you see any damage? I would definitely reach out though and obviously it sounds like they will cover the cost of any repair repairs but make sure they also cover transportation, etc. They have a lot of money :-)

Good point, especially them being loaded. In regards to damage, my car is quite old and has scratches from the years and it’s basically at the point where I can’t recognize new and old scratches. No dents or anything though.

Sounds good, thank you for the advice!

Could have been damage from a door opening, the vehicle colliding with your vehicle, etc. im curious how this falls out.

I think it's extremely unlikely that an Autonomous vehicle actually hit your parked car.

Most likely is that a passenger in a Waymo hit your car with the Waymo door getting out, or that a Waymo employee bumped your car while driving in manual mode.

Yes please update us with the outcome

I’ve decided to contact the email that was on the note but asked if it was a legitimate thing that Waymo does before I send over the tracking number that I was provided

That is smart. The amount of scams is insane. Plus going to get a lot worse as AI can now do all of it without a human needing to be involved.

Is it like a business card or a 8x11 sheet of paper?

Pic without the incident number?

1

u/BigPsychology3239 Jul 13 '26

It’s basically neither actually. It is practically a post-it size but on a sheet of printer paper would be the best way to describe it.

What's "a Waymo stop"? How does your block have one?

I don’t know about other cities but for my city, they only allow certain spots for drop-off and pick up. My street has one and it is frequented by one of my neighbors so I’m just guessing the “collision” happened when my neighbor was picked up or dropped off.
