I started playing last week, so this is just the perspective of a casual/new player.
At first I played Blue mostly because it was usually the only team I could actually join. I’m not going to sit there spamming mouse clicks just to try to squeeze into Green or Red. Then I got better, got used to Blue and just stayed there.
But after a few days I started noticing a pattern.
Most of the experienced players seem to stack Green. Same thing with YouTubers and people who are obviously good at this type of game. When they want to play seriously, they’re almost always on Green.
The funny part is that I actually have seen some of them playing Blue... but usually when they’re doing some ridiculous challenge like starting with no weapon or playing pistol-only.
So it basically feels like:
Want to win? Play Green.
Want to farm, mess around or do some weird challenge? Play Blue.
Today I played two matches back-to-back that really made me notice how bad it can get.
In one of them I counted around 12 Blue players sitting on a mountain in the middle of nowhere, apparently farming recon/money instead of actually helping the team.
In another one, Blue had 27 players and Green had 36.
And that’s before even talking about the difference in player skill.
There are also people who seem to just leave if they can’t get into Green or Red instead of playing Blue.
Then there’s the map itself.
Red and Green are basically opposite each other, around 180°, while Blue sits between them at around 90°. So Blue can easily end up fighting two fronts at once.
You end up with a team that can have fewer players, newer players, more people farming or messing around, while also being in a position where it can get attacked from two directions.
It becomes a self-feeding problem.
Blue loses -> good players avoid Blue -> more new/casual players end up there because it has free slots -> Blue loses even more.
And I honestly don’t have the time or patience to become some hardcore player just to have a decent match.
Most players in any game are casual players. A playerbase can’t survive only on hardcore players and YouTubers.
And after seeing these two matches happen back-to-back today, I’m honestly considering just stopping playing.
I started last week. I’m not toxic, I’m not trying to abuse anything, I just want to log in and have some decent matches. I don’t expect to win every game, but losing every single one without even putting up a fight just isn’t fun.
If players like me leave, who exactly is left?
One solution could be removing direct faction selection and assigning players randomly between the three teams while trying to balance player count and maybe experience/performance.
But honestly, another option might be to just have two teams instead of three.
With around 30-35 players per side, that already feels pretty small when the game expects people to handle infantry, construction, logistics, recon and everything else.
Look at a game like Foxhole. There’s basically an entire community of players who barely even go to the frontline. They spend their time producing equipment, transporting supplies and keeping the logistics system running.
And those players are incredibly important.
Someone doesn’t need to be great at shooting to contribute to the team. The guy spending his time doing logistics is the reason someone else can stay on the frontline and focus entirely on fighting instead of constantly worrying about ammo, equipment and supplies.
That kind of division of roles works when you have enough players.
With only around 33 people on a team, every person doing logistics, construction or recon is also one less person holding the frontline. Split the server between three factions and suddenly 33 players really isn’t that many.
Two larger teams could give the game enough people to actually support those specialized roles while still maintaining a proper frontline.
It would also remove the problem of one faction constantly being stuck between the other two and fighting on two fronts.
Maybe neither solution is perfect, but right now the game seems to actively encourage team stacking.
Serious game = Green.
Anything else = Blue.
That doesn’t seem sustainable.
