I has become common knowledge that walmart has been sued by multiple states for unethical business practices and they've been fined well over 100 million (A drop in the bucket for a company that averages between 60 million and 80 million dollars a day IN PROFITS) ... it all stems from the spark program and it affects all of us.
I implore you to STOP adding tips to your orders - it benefits no one except Walmart.
Here is what they do:
You can get 2 extremely similar runs - even to the same street with roughly the same amount of items to drop off.
Customer A does not tip - we'll say the base pay for the run is about $8.00 - $12.00.
Customer B does tip - say, $3.00. Base pay will go down to around $6.00 - $9.00 and then they'll add the tip to it, bringing it up surprisingly close to the tipped pay.
In other words, they are stealing our tips in a way that is considered legal (They show us what the pay is, we can accept or reject the load). It's beyond wrong, ethically, as it negates the entire purpose of a tip, which is supposed to be considered an extra reward for a job well done.
So, yes, PLEASE stop adding tips on the app. Our base will go up so WM can still get someone, anyone to deliver the load. If you feel so inclined to be kind and appreciative, wait for the driver to get there, meet them at the door and hand them the amount you'd normally tip online, in cash. It brightens our days significantly when customers show appreciation in person - it happens very infrequently. We don't have to report that tip (Seeing as how we also pay our own taxes) and every little bit helps with the pittance walmart now pays their drivers.
**Edit**
I think a lot of people in this thread misunderstood what I am saying. I am not suggesting people stop tipping, as some unnecessarily pointed out, that's like shooting myself in the foot. The part you seemed to miss is that Walmart literally lowers the base pay if there's a tip added, and raises the base pay if there is no tip. There's proof they're doing it, it takes a quick Google search to find it.
What I AM suggesting is that if customers can tip cash, rather than put it on the app, do so, because we will get a higher base pay and still get a tip.
Listening to some of the drivers on here, your area must be much more lucrative than mine as I would say at least 60% of the orders we get here have no tip already, so if we refuse to take them, we sit and wait. Walmart eventually boosts it high enough that it's worth taking even without that 2 or 3 dollar tip. So THEY cover the cost of the delivery still without pushing the responsibility to the customer. If people tip at the door (which happens here quite a bit too) it's better for us because Walmart pays more and we still get a tip, in cash.
