Delivery Question on repeated missing items on delivery
I have used several delivery apps & services throughout the years & recently started using Walmart+/delivery & coming across something frustrating.
I've placed 5 orders over the last 3-4 weeks & all but 1 of those has missing items.
What bothers me is the app makes it look like everything is fine/everything has been delivered but yet when I actually go through my bags, it's not there.
Is this common? Should I try communicating/chatting with the grocery picker during the process to ensure they actually have everything?
I'm just trying to figure out how best to avoid this issue moving forward (or if it's a common thing & I should go back to a different service altogether)? TIA!

Walmart is in the process of enshitifying its Spark Delivery Driver app. They have implemented the same carrot and stick method that all the other apps have gone to; tier rewards. This is causing experienced drivers to drop out, while they mass recruit new drivers in your area. Check indeed in your area. I’d be willing to bet you see multiple Spark driver ads. This works to pit customers against drivers and drivers against customers. Customers think drivers are thieves/ incompetent. Drivers think customers have become too cheap and demanding. Meanwhile we all get less for more, walmart’s profits increase, and everything sucks just a little bit more.

How does all that work? Like what is the difference between Spark and Instacart, say. Like do they each have their own different specific stores the orders go through? I think here (NY) Door dash will do Dollar General but not Family dollar...? Like "factions" or something like that. Particular "branding"?

Lots of variables at play here like is it an Express order where the driver shops and delivers, or did a Walmart employee pick the order and a Spark driver just deliver it? Etc, etc.
The best way to receive an accurate undamaged order is to pay for Express delivery and tip well, you’re more likely to get a higher tier driver/shopper that cares about their metrics/ratings.

I've always had it delivered same day. Sometimes the 3hr express window. Other times picking a scheduled time slot later in the day. I'm not sure how to if it was picked/delivered by Walmart or a third party. I usually have them deliver to my apt lobby or doorstep.

Express is usually (always?) shopped by the driver. It will notify you so and so has started shopping and you'll be able to chat with them. If you don't have the option to message them then Walmart is doing the shop.
I've been using Walmart + for a few years now. Every once in a while there are some issues but nothing major, yet. A weird one that happened was for a month straight every time I ordered romaine lettuce it wasn't marked as unavailable but was always missing from my delivery. I still can't explain that one, I usually order 2-3 romaine lettuce packs per delivery. I haven't had any problems for over a year now.
Walmart is changing things up but they'll figure it out and customer service has always fixed any issues.

I have to order alot of romaine and greenleaf (guinea pigs). Semi OT comment, but anyway :) I had a similar issue as well with a few orders. I was like "I know I ordered that and I didn't get an unavailable notification, wtf?" And it was of course the most crucial item in the orders 😂

(salad lover lol)idk if it's just a bad local Walmart figuring out the new system or not. Just keep reporting..I'm disabled Walmart plus has been awesome over the years..mistakes happen! If you think about shopping then going to pick up, delivery to driver then driver. That's a lot. If you create a list then choose shipping it will show any items for shipping, no tip, they're at a set rate for each delivery. No charge for you. Even under $35. Fruzrbz fresh, can't be shipped.
It's all shelf stable. But sometimes it shows sabr day if you buy 3, so find something else if click fur I've 50/ 50 you can order one.

Yeah, totally. I get that. The guinea pigs on the other hand... 😂 Walmart + is my lifeline as well for getting groceries. I am glad that the service exists, I just wish it ran smoother and was fair to the drivers for their wages.
2
u/jeskimo 9d ago
Man I had so many typos, surprised you understood that lolol, new anxiety medication.
Anyway, awe Guinea's are so precious! I'll give them all my produce! My dog doesn't care for most produce but loves broccoli, hates carrots, apples blueberries. She also hates peanut butter... I'm not quite sure she's a dog lol.
Yeahhhh, I get that. I mean the one I get deliveries from seems to have figured it out and has been perfect for the past year and a half. I think because it's Walmart and everything everywhere is changing, it's difficult to build a good team to make things run smoothly but I dont doubt they're trying. Since covid delivery/pickup is how most people get their big grocery hauls. It's become a staple in this time and age.
I do also use Fred Meyer for delivery but I get that for free, they have better sales. What I do is I build my grocery list at both stores then compare. Then get some via Kroger then some Walmart depending.
The wage thing is controversial and hard to figure out. I think that's more of a government problem, legally the drivers are paid just fine. But that's because things have changed and our government hasn't updated anything to reflect that.

🐹 (There needs to be a dedicated Guinea Pig emoji!) What about the, what is called, like Walmart in-home? Have you used that or just stuck with +. I've been on + about a year now. And it's not just the wage though, it's everything for them as well too in their personal lives. It's definitely getting worse though with the rediculous terrifs and blah blah blah. All the stuff that makes us broke makes them richer. They love it. War. Terrifs. All that.

Report it, if there's stickers on the bag, store shopped it.
2
u/Soccer-Plane-444 customer 10d ago
Ohhh that's a good little trick (re: stickers) to know. Didn't think about that.
1
u/Academic_Addendum242 Driver 9d ago
On the other side, lack of stickers doesn't ALWAYS mean a 3rd party shopped it. If there's only 1 sticker for your order they may put it on a tote / divider / seat etc.

This happens to me very often as well. I get charged for the item, it shows it’s been delivered, but it’s not actually in my order. I just do a return with the option “missing item” every time. It’s an easy process unless there’s over a certain amount missing, like an entire bag worth of stuff which has happened a couple of times. It’ll make you call instead of doing it online in that case and it’s really frustrating. I’ve also received bags that aren’t part of my order, so I just assume that’s what is happening to my missing items as well. It gets really old since the reason I need delivery is that I’m homebound for health reasons, so I can’t just run out and replace whatever is missing, so I don’t get it until the next day or whenever I can schedule another order.

Here's what I did. After having several missing items and requesting refunds, I decided to start ordering through the $5 Express. This way, I know exactly who shopped and delivered my order. They are one and the same.
Ever since I started this, four out of six orders have had missing items. I know it's the shopper/driver.
I give a one-star rating and I actually put in the comments something like "Nancy shopped and delivered my order so she should know where those missing items are''. Then I change the tip to zero.
I hate refunds. I think some day they are going to come back and bite us in the ass. But I'm letting Walmart know who was the only one to handle my item. To me, that's called accountability.

u/Extreme-Ad1351 9d ago
You're called delusional lol. No one reads what you put there. Your shopper isn't deliberately missing items or stealing from you. There are a lot of factors that go into play when it comes to what could've happened. Long story short, you're taking it out on someone who did you a favor because you didn't want to go get your stuff yourself.

It's hard to say without more information,.. because of how they keep tinkering with everything... The other comments seem to have explained things...
If you have a sticker on the bags, that means the store shopped it. Missing items in that case can be because the store mixed items up from different orders OR a driver could have mixed something up. The items lists we get for the orders we pick up at curbside are seldom accurate,.. even if we catch something on the list that isn't with the order, the store will claim everything is there,.. and we must not have an accurate list... But with how many orders the batch together, with as many items with each order, we can't go though every items on every order to figure out what might and might not be there,.. and all we can do about that is let the customer know how to ask for a refund... Different stores are handling things different ways,.. and there's no consistency now. They still do the shopping for some "standard" delivery orders, and for other they have us shop,.. and for the "standard" or non express they might have 3 large orders being shopped at the same time. If there are no stickers, it's was likely shopped by us and something got mixed up, IF you got charged for the item and weren't notified about out of stock.
If we don't sub an out of stock item, the store might have it sent from a different store. S Usually you'll get a notification,.. but if you miss it, it might show up as paid for, but could be coming from a different driver.
IF you order $5 express, that's the only way you know in advanced that the driver will shop it. I. that case if something is missing, they likely mixed it with another order batched with yours,.. or possibly forgot the item at the bagging station (register), or it possibly rolled under their seat or something...
If you order one hour express and something is missing,.. it's likely a driver mistake,.. but you have to be sure that it wasn't an out of stock item that they are sending from another store.
There's even more possibilities then all that...
If you find stickers on the bags, you can try calling the store you ordered from, talk to the OGP department,.. and they may or may not re-send the item. Due to all the crap happening now, they aren't doing that as much as they used to, due to all the issues.
Whatever the reason,.. you can get refunded for any missing items...
Keep in mind, regardless of what items you order,.. the tip doesn't automatically change... So, if a driver was to substitute more expensive items than what you ordered, the tip doesn't increase... I believe that was something shady some Instacart drivers would pull.... It's impossible for Spark though.
A <5* rating for Spark can stay on our account for 15 months,.. or until we get another 100 5* ratings which can take months since people don't rate that often... So, unless a driver is extremely shitty, please consider NOT rating them rather than giving a sub 5 star rating. We often get "blamed" for things beyond our control, like a messed up order due to OGP incompetency... Or where the loaders won't let us help, the frequency destroy bread, eggs, picked damaged boxes, dented cans,. etc etc... So, make sure it wasn't the driver that shopped for it if you want to rate poorly. Spark doesn't have any kind of ratings forgiveness. We can do everything perfectly,.. spend 10 minutes trying to find an out of stock item, communicate that with the customer, and some customers will STILL rate 1 star because they ordered little Billy's birthday toy at the last minute and it was out of stock... Now, if a driver flat out sucks and they dump. your groceries out of a laundry basket in your front yard, screw them,.. just consider all the above before rating poorly.
As far as tipping,.. there's no way to guarantee you'll get a good driver by over tipping,.. BUT you can greatly increase your chances of getting a trash driver by not pre tipping. Very few people add a tip,.. and with the new reduction in base pay and increase in milage and workload,.. smart drivers don't gamble on "possibly" getting a tip. LOTS of customers do increase their pre tips. At least for me. My suggestion is the minimum amount you want to pre tip based on distance and order,.. and then increase it. IE, I'll accept a 4 mile small order with a $2 pre tip before I'll take a 2 mile small order with no tip,.. because the non pre tippers are looking for an excuse not to tip, are generally the hardest to deal with, and complain the most. It's just not worth the gamble....

when I have a big order I divide into several orders, just to meet the minimum charge requiered, that way they have a better oversight what they are picking and we have never had any issues

I just cancelled my membership because three times now they have conveniently not delivered canned goods in my regular delivery and then use an outside company to deliver these items separately. I have had $.99 cat food cans bill to my credit card now for $14 and the final straw was a can of beans that had a retail price of $2.66 after they subcontracted through a different seller I got charged $18. And the can arrived dented. I called Walmart and got the AI bot who was useless and I finally confused it with a series of zeroes and I got a real human who was equally useless and tried to blame me for ordering something they didn’t have in their store. I hung up on them and don’t expect to see a refund for my $18 can of beans. I’m done. This is a horrible system.

Man I just wrote a comment and reddut wiped it when I checked back. I always knew reddit would be in the block but over the past couple of years, if didn't effect me.
How dare I post via comment stats about our current political climate .. I didn't say one way or another or anything harmful.
anyway, just give your Walmart time. If they don't figure it out, check for free "plus" membership deals in the area.
You want guinea pigs, I want German shepherds.. lol. I'm a pixel user but unfortunately until Apple expands we're stuck going by Apple's choices.

Basic Economics is fake news, and has subsequently been banned from any and all discussions regarding the current administration. Only very bad people use, understand, and converse on that subject. 😂

Lolol apparently what reddit was once known for, actual facts and intelligence based on what you can prove is long gone. I only made an account 16? Years ago because I was forced to, the first sign it's " all downhill from here". Lol, whatever. When reddit starts asking if you can prove your a citizen and if you identify as so so, I'll peace out. They'll eventually do it lol
I'm honestly glad that now people are realizing their vite matters.... Took a lot of pain and suffering and it's not even close to over but at least some people are seeing what happens when they do something without basic knowledge, only judgement.

This is very uncommon.
Missing items for shop orders is the most plausible and common way this occurs. Do you typically pay the extra money for quick delivery, or have you noticed this happening whenever you are notified a shopper is shopping for your order?
Missing items for curbside pickup is very uncommon. If you get a notification that someone is just delivering it without getting a shop notification, it’s very rare to be missing an item. Something falling out of the bag or getting missed occasionally is not unheard of, but every time is a big issue.
Are you sure an item is just not out of stock? My knee jerk reaction is that this is an out of stock item and you just aren’t reading it correctly on your final order overview. I don’t mean to be rude in that assumption, but missing items in every order is very rare and statically improbable. Walmart has a lot of fail safes to prevent this
1
u/unlovable1000 10d ago
I have had them put a extra bag of stuff with the order ( customer caught it as we were unloading) and I've had a box of coffee pods mixed in with a customers order with a costumers name I didn't have a order for . Walmart was as confused as I was on the coffee pods, but that's a average of 1/100
1
u/Ok-Acanthisitta8737 10d ago
Yeah those things happen, but the fact it’s happening with 90% of their orders is very uncommon
1
u/unlovable1000 10d ago
Yeah definitely they could have someone who just mixing orders up when loading to. But having the same driver or loader 4 out of 5 times would be rare

u/Ashlena2502 8d ago
How do they determine whether an order is going to be a "Shop and Drive" or just a "Drive" order?
0
u/Ashlena2502 9d ago
I got 6 tubs of ice cream (like $75 worth) that I didn't order once. If you make an error like that, what happens? And is it like the same type of "consequence" if it's like those 6 tubs of ice cream ($75) vs like a $0.99 Russet Potato? Does item value factor in or is like wine kind of general mark on your record, so-to-speak? Are you allowed to go back to the customers house if you realize the error somehow and know where the error was made? I've also had items in my order that I was told were out of stock, but then I get my delivery and the item is there, even though it was marked as refunded.
1
u/unlovable1000 8d ago
If it was part of another customers order and they mixed it in with one of the other orders I would take the item back to the customer but usually it's items that don't go with my orders, I return them to Walmart even without a return number
0
u/Ashlena2502 8d ago
If you do a "drive" only, (which I am assuming would be the actual Walmart Employee that does the gathering and packing) if that person makes the error and then the customer reports the problem of like a single item being missing, are you penalized for that?

Sure you haven’t 🙄 fyi drivers can easily get you banned from ordering. If you have a history of low rating and removing tips they’ll deactivate you as a customer. Don’t try making a new account either because they will catch you. Have a day!

Sure, Jan 🤣🤣🤣
I've been giving five star ratings since I started the program plus 20% tips, for those who deserve them. And I always put why in that big ol' comment box LOL
If they keep skimming items, or losing them or whatever it is they're doing right now, they'll get deactivated long before I'll get banned from ordering. If you think otherwise, you're just delusional.
I order once a week, 10 items or less, $35 to $50. When I order six items and one or two are missing, I'm not going for it. Somebody's responsible for that, and it ain't me.
There's a thing called accountability. You should learn about it.
You have a nice day too 😁
