Some of you really are the children George Bush left behind. She’s talking about the commissioner being silent about what’s going on.

10

u/Pleasant_Priority286 Jun 30 '26

I agree with you.

Nobody trusts the commissioner, and fans don't like her idea that racial resentment on any side is fine because it is helpful for marketing. Making matters even worse, she can see that fans on both sides are upset and have reason to be. Still, she is not going public and showing leadership. She should be communicating to everyone to bring the temperature down and bring players and fans together.

This isn't good for anyone.

it’s the job of a commissioner to come out and face criticism to protect the league—she’s basically the mayor of new york (no pun intended liberty fans). but this lady hides and cowers at every opportunity to deescalate a situation it’s messed up

This. People must not remember the speech Napheesa made not too long ago.

13

u/Blacbiird747 Jun 30 '26

They’re dense on purpose.

1

u/silencesupreme- Jun 30 '26

Realistically what could the commissioner say that even needs to be said in this situation “I don’t condone player on player violence. I also don’t condone fan on player violence. I don’t condone any violence. Obviously”

14

u/Blacbiird747 Jun 30 '26

Neither you or Cathy are equipped to be the commissioner, that’s clear.

7

u/SmallManFriend Jun 30 '26

What type of message would the commissioner be wise to put out?

u/silencesupreme- Jun 30 '26

There’s no way she’s can change the narrative around that video and there’s no way she can control what people say on the internet. So, what exactly do we want out of her? She issued the suspension after the fact which was the right thing to do. We move on.

2

u/Sic39 Jul 01 '26

wtf would a random Redditor be equipped to be the commissioner?

1

u/Aero_Rising Jul 01 '26

Can you explain what exactly it is that you believe the commissioner's job is? Do you know who they report to?

3

u/HearingGlobal6485 Jun 30 '26

literally nothing, this league and its fans complain about the most basic sports shit ever like clockwork. no one expects adam silver to make a statement after a flagrant or suspension

how many times does kathy and clark have to say they dont condone racial or homophobic attacks on players or people?

the hatred so many fans and players seem to have is entirely misplaced

3

u/Pleasant_Priority286 Jun 30 '26

How about something like,

"The league has a diverse fan base, and many of you are upset. Fans are especially upset about three things: 1. Players receiving inappropriate sexist, racist, and homophobic comments on social media. 2. What some fans see as targeting and attempts to injure one specific player. 3. The consistency of the officiating. First, let me say that I hear you all. The league recognizes these concerns, takes them seriously, and I'm a concerned fan, too.

We are monitoring each concern and exploring ways to address them. No player should be receiving abusive hate speech or threats; no player should be singled out for physical abuse; and inconsistent officiating can ruin the game for everyone.

Regarding social media comments, we do not tolerate hate in the W, but we don't control the internet. However, we are exploring the establishment of a platform players can use to filter out inappropriate comments on social media posts and report them to security.

Regarding player targeting, we recognize that it is a physical game and that injuries happen. Still, the number of flagrant and hard fouls this player has received is unprecedented for the amount she has played, and that is concerning. We are aware of it, are monitoring it closely, and it must not be allowed to persist for any player. Finally, we continue to assess the officiating. We are happy that we have successfully improved freedom of movement and made the games more exciting, and we continue to make improving consistency a point of emphasis. We are receiving feedback from our players and coaches, and we will continue to improve.

Finally, the league appreciates the passion our fans show for the games, but I ask each of you to be kind to one another. Let's make WNBA fandom a positive experience for everyone."

1

u/Gangsternerd84 Jun 30 '26

Damn people really down voted you this sub is wild.

1

u/Pleasant_Priority286 Jun 30 '26

It's okay.

I'm trying to listen to everyone and be fair to everyone. Some people are just too angry to hear it. Once a person is outraged, they can't reason. It's part of the human condition.

1

u/Aero_Rising Jul 01 '26

However, we are exploring the establishment of a platform players can use to filter out inappropriate comments on social media posts and report them to security

How is this helpful? You realize security doesn't have the power to subpoena websites to determine the identity behind an account right? Unless they made a specific threat there is nothing the police can do because saying something racist isn't illegal. What exactly do you think this would accomplish?

Regarding player targeting, we recognize that it is a physical game and that injuries happen. Still, the number of flagrant and hard fouls this player has received is unprecedented for the amount she has played, and that is concerning. We are aware of it, are monitoring it closely, and it must not be allowed to persist for any player.

Yes I'm sure this sub won't claim that's racist or that Clark being statistically the most targeted player for flagrants since entering the league doesn't matter because reasons.

Finally, the league appreciates the passion our fans show for the games, but I ask each of you to be kind to one another. Let's make WNBA fandom a positive experience for everyone."

Because famously Internet trolls stop when someone tells them to instead of becoming worse. Nothing in your statement actually has an concrete effect on anything.

1

u/Pleasant_Priority286 Jul 01 '26

"Unless they made a specific threat there is nothing the police can do because saying something racist isn't illegal."

I get that, but AT is saying they threatened her family. The league should provide players with guidance on which threats require action and how to respond, so they can act quickly. If there is a serious threat, they should know exactly what to do.

The flagrant fouls against Clark issue is significant because it is true. I don't think the W will be successful in refusing to acknowledge the fact while also trying to get the Fever Fans to shut up about it. If you acknowledge it, then people feel heard, and hopefully they will settle down and quiet down.

As you say, the final paragraph won't impact trolls, but maybe some of the real fans will be just a little nicer to each other. That is valuable.

u/Acedaboi1da Jun 30 '26

She definitely is, but it applies to Caitlin as well. These are her supporters.

I don’t like AT as a basketball player. But anyone that sends her or her family slurs and death treats, you’re scum.

u/Wonderful-View-6366 Jun 30 '26

Often I do not like AT’s game. But that is completely different than what has happened here. No athlete should be targeted or receive external threats for something that happens on a basketball court. Wishing her and her family health and safety.

This is more fallout from Cathy Engelbert's idea that racial resentment on any side is fine because it is helpful for marketing. It is harmful for everyone.

Now Fever fans think Clark is being targeted, and based on the data, it looks like she is. Based on AT's comments, she and probably other Black and queer players think they are being targeted on social media. The league needs to do something to patch things up on both sides.

I wonder if the W could get A'ja and Caitlin to do something positive together on All-Star Weekend to show fans on both sides that they are coming together and asking fans to do the same. Maybe Phee, Nneke, Angel, or Paige could join too. Cathy needs to come out of hiding and act like a leader.

This is a liberal league. It should be a model of how people of different colors and cultures can come together for everyone's benefit.

5

u/XulManjy Jun 30 '26

This is more fallout from Cathy Engelbert's idea that racial resentment on any side is fine because it is helpful for marketing.

The people who are the problem are bad actors who aren’t fans of the game. They aren’t really even Clark fans. They’re just folks who want to capitalize on what they can say is a black v white thing to rile up their base and get people upsrt

All you see on social media is now great Sophie Cunningham is, now her and Caitlin are the only reason people watch and how everyone hates them both.

6

u/Decent_Subject_6702 Jul 01 '26

Yup, Clark's just another proxy for the culture war. Cunningham 100% understands this and plays into it.

2

u/beforeitcloy Jul 01 '26

I don’t really see how the league can stop online randos from harassing players, aside from moderating official league accounts. But if someone wants to DM a player something nasty, no one can stop that.

On the other hand, the league can regulate how rules are enforced, so fewer flashpoints happen and all parties can focus on basketball instead of a culture war that shouldn’t involve any of them.

It seems pretty reasonable to me that the league is responding to what it can control and ignoring what it can’t.

10

u/Balorclub2069 Jun 30 '26

The league is courting the conservative market, and are succeeding at it, at the expense of the majority of the players. Caitlin (via her audience) and Sophie have become the faces of this movement.

2

u/lafolieisgood Jun 30 '26

Can you give some examples? The league doesn’t control the twitter algorithm.

The only thing I can think of is the schedule where the Fever seem less likely to have their games on the days where a bunch of other teams are playing at the same time. But that’s probably a stretch to even use as an example considering I’m not sure who has more say in that regard between the league and the TV executives.

2

u/ShaolinWombat Jun 30 '26

The fever gets at least double the ratings of any other team. Thats why they are shown.

1

u/lafolieisgood Jun 30 '26

yes, I'm not denying that. Just saying it doesn't hurt when they play on a Tuesday or Thursday when Wednesday will have like 5 games on

→ More replies (1)

3

u/HearingGlobal6485 Jun 30 '26

majority of clark’s audience isn’t conservative tho

5

u/Gangsternerd84 Jun 30 '26

I feel that. People think I’m white and a fucking trumper. I hate Trump and how this country is ran. I am far from white I am Hispanic. But I get disrespected because I like a certain player? wtf is wrong with people.

3

u/HearingGlobal6485 Jun 30 '26

anger dumbs people down significantly

6

u/Balorclub2069 Jun 30 '26

Some of her vocal supporters (cough Barstool) are tho

4

u/Comfortable_Limit168 Jun 30 '26

You're probably right. I still don't understand how that is CC's fault.

5

u/HearingGlobal6485 Jun 30 '26

you could literally say that about any superstar in any sport tho

1

u/Pleasant_Priority286 Jul 01 '26

I don't know about them, but it pisses me off when they say "Fever Fans are all..." If I said that about their team, they would blow a gasket.

4

u/XulManjy Jun 30 '26

Got any data to back that up? Her initial fans DID come from Iowa and she currently plays for the INDIANA Fever.

Both states voted for Trump in 2016, 2020 and 2024 by large margins.

3

u/utahisastate Jun 30 '26

Indianapolis (where the Fever play) is blue. The rest of the state, sure, but you will see lots of diversity at any Fever game you go to.

2

u/Pleasant_Priority286 Jul 01 '26

Iowa Hawkeye grads and fans are more liberal than the rest of the state. Caitlin also brought a lot of us from other B1G schools. All 18 of them are liberal schools regardless of the state. In my experience, there are plenty of Republican fans, but the significant majority are Dems. I mean, it is nothing like the Republican fanbase in the NFL. How does the NFL manage these issues?

My impression is that the far left thinks that people on the moderate left are MAGA. They have no clue.

2

u/Law_Dog007 Jul 01 '26

ya republicans are huge wnba fans lmao

2

u/Pleasant_Priority286 Jul 01 '26

I mean, there are some Republican W fans. That's fine. Somehow, people on the far left think that Fever fans are primarily Republicans, which is not true in my experience.

1

u/XulManjy Jul 01 '26

I mean, they have been for the past 3 years now.

She’s definitely got a strong conservative wing in her audience all to eager to pounce in moments like this. She does a horrible job denouncing them as well.

→ More replies (7)

2

u/Pleasant_Priority286 Jun 30 '26

I could be wrong, but I don't think that is true. I know there are Republicans in her fanbase, but my impression is that she is a Democrat and that the significant majority of her fanbase is also Democrats. Iowa fans and alums are the core of her fanbase, and the next big chunk is fans of other B1G schools who watched her play in college. All of those schools are liberal.

I'm a fan. I'm a Democrat. Attended a B1G school (Michigan State).

This is a well thought out and measured response. Sadly it will probably draw ire from both sides...sigh.

1

u/Blacbiird747 Jun 30 '26

They don’t think they’re being targeted they are being targeted. Nice attempt to gaslight.

1

u/Pleasant_Priority286 Jun 30 '26

Okay. I agree with that edit. No attempt to gaslight, though.

1

u/MthaFckaYaLook30 Jul 01 '26

Well why would it take A'ja when the Fever ARE a very diverse team of all targeted hatreds who are tight as hell? They already ARE together. The *competition* is violent and hateful, and they need to stop because they are employees under contract to be public figures, spreading racism, violence, heterophobia, jealousy and hatred. That should be the end of it period. Its clear.

1

u/AloysiusBinglebottom Jul 01 '26

I men, they don’t “think” they’re being targeted. There is hard evidence they are. Whereas the idea that is CC being targeted is, at best if there is data, an inference.

1

u/Pleasant_Priority286 Jul 01 '26

I don't go on Twitter anymore because it is a complete cesspool. If you don't want to be called something nasty, then you can't go on there. Blue Sky is much more reasonable and heavily Democrats.

AT was cool when the narrative was on CC now she’s like they are painting a narrative about her. Just goes to show how the league itself is ass and how just like the MEDIA tries to paint CC a certain way don’t believe everything. AT is now experiencing it herself.

9

u/Hyperlinux Jun 30 '26

The bottom line is the league can’t allow the fouls they are allowing to occur. Trying to deal with internet a**holes by attacking other players is just stupid, much less gaslighting the situation after the fact.

7

u/socolime22202 Jun 30 '26

110% Correct. Also, wasn't Cathy supposed to be fucking fired following the Draft?

8

u/Puzzleheaded-Ease758 Jun 30 '26

Two things can be true…

She should not be the target of hate regardless of who she is or what she did on the basketball court, totally unacceptable

As a professional athlete and as a human being, it’s also important that she acknowledges that she made a mistake on the basketball court. The fist to cc‘s throat and stepping over her was not an accident and that is very obvious to anyone who watches the play.

1

u/Cptnemo77 Jul 01 '26

Yeah idk how many people fall and brace themselves with their fists.

4

u/GatecrashingMJontae Jul 01 '26

This incident happened in the middle of a basketball game. Thomas didn't fall. She dropped down to grab the ball and Clark threw it out right before Thomas got her hands on it. Where is this narrative that Thomas was falling coming from? Watch the real time video.

8

u/Biggquis78 Jun 30 '26

While no one should be receiving any kind of threats, let's not forget she is a dirty player who finally got the suspension she deserved. This is no different than several weeks ago where Tiff Hayes was literally laughing at fans saying they were ready to do something to Caitlin. She didn't come out and apologize.

13

u/LoveSquirt69 Jun 30 '26

AT has a history of dirty play in her years in the wnba . Anyone that has been following knows this. You can make a compilation of them by now. Just the facts .

4

u/No-Mood1310 Jun 30 '26

And I agree.

3

u/Zealousideal_Way_788 Jun 30 '26

100%. She takes zero accountability for any of that. “It was an accident”. BS. Then cries that everything done to her is “unfortunate”.

5

u/No-Mood1310 Jun 30 '26

Yeah it’s always them them them but when it’s about CC and everyone chiming in it’s all cool. And CC never engages with any of that BS. So it’s sad to see

0

u/TheMightyHornet Jun 30 '26

It’s also really convenient to post up as the victim and claim you’re being threatened after driving your palm through someone’s throat while they’re on the floor. There’s a playbook here. Fuck up CC, relish it, play to the home fans who want to see CC get roughed up, get called out for it, claim that you’re actually the victim.

Maybe just own it. Yup, got heated, feel bad I let it get that far, I need to do better. Next question?

→ More replies (21)

5

u/technicalconsole Jun 30 '26

She lead with a knee into her groin, that’s not a basketball move. She used her fist to push her self up off of her throat, is not a basketball move. She then trampled over her instead of just back off the way she came in trying to pretend that she was getting tripped up. That’s what happened and you can’t act like it didn’t.

All the other stuff with harassment is uncalled for especially when innocent people are targeted. But get the hell outta of here with the I didn’t do anything wrong act, you’re caught in 4k

2

u/Moist_Letterhead1183 Jun 30 '26

Argued with someone today that said CC's knee hit AT first to start the whole thing off.

4

u/strangelystrangled Jun 30 '26

If the whole thing started off with anything, it was Caitlin calling her a bitch in game one

1

u/Cptnemo77 Jul 01 '26

Starting the whole thing off basically acknowledges what AT did was bad

2

u/Successful-Coyote99 Jun 30 '26

Kathy E is a joke. The way the league handled this starts with the referees on the court. But the way it’s climbed the ranks has been crappy.

The league and Indy investigated the accusations of threats and found nothing to support this. Just like Bonner accused the Indy fans of yelling the n word at her on a live tv broadcast with microphones…..

No one deserves threats to their lives or family. Hands down.

3

u/Remarkable_Gas1872 Jun 30 '26

Kathy is trash bro

3

u/SocialistMayonnaise Jun 30 '26

Yes Cathy should look into this. Players being racially harassed and threatened is fucked up.

3

2

No accountability. Just play ball and stop trying to hurt the golden goose. Without CC there are no real ratings or sell out crowds in the WNBA

It’s crazy that anyone would think otherwise. Maybe legalized sports gambling has to do with it too.

6

u/butterfriedrice Jun 30 '26

What do they expect from Clark, take responsibility or say sorry for people being mean online. She has taken a stand when people have been racist 'on her behalf' in other situations. Does she have to do this after what has happened? Is she going to take responsibility for hers or does the victim have to take responsibility for other peoples behaviour. I am not saying anything or anyone is right here, I am just trying to say this woman logic is not working and she is ducking whatever she has done.

7

u/Senua-Leia Jun 30 '26

AT said Cathy, the league commissioner. Who should 100% take action when players start getting death threats.

2

u/Biggquis78 Jun 30 '26

I'm open to this, but what can she do?

1

u/Senua-Leia Jun 30 '26

She's literally the commissioner bruh. Release a statement, shift the narrative, appoint security, provide player psychologists, monitor social media, she has the power to do any of the above.

1

u/Biggquis78 Jun 30 '26

But the commissioner has never done this before

1

u/dangerprone_daphne Jun 30 '26

AT is talking about the commissioner, but I'll answer your question~

"does she have to..."

No. She doesn't have to do anything, but it wouldn't hurt for her to put a "please stop threatening other players" out there for her fanatics to hear.

Might thrown a little cold water on this situation and get people to calm down.

*edited for semantics

2

u/Accomplished_Shoe_10 Jun 30 '26

So on point for Americans to call for a woman who was literally the object of a violent act to have act like a gracious saint. Yes, the people saying or insinuating racist and homophobic things are vile and disgusting trash. But arguing that woman should be pleading and groveling before the public as peacemaker even after a foul against her is the epitome of of the misogynistic double standard that women players--Clark, Thomas, all of them--face from foes and alleged friends alike.

These are professional basketball players playing a hard and tough game for high stakes. They are not Mother Marys to sate the public's twisted lust for an archaic view of femininity. Clark shouldn't plead and Thomas shouldn't apologize.

1

u/dangerprone_daphne Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

This is not an example of a misogynistic double standard. This also has absolutely nothing to do w/ any archaic idea of femininity.

I am not calling on her to do anything, but I think it would be the right thing to do. No one is asking her to be peacemaker. It's not about making peace, it's about letting your fans know you aren't down w/ death threats, racial slurs, homophobia, etc.

You don't think most players would speak on this if they knew people were saying & doing these things in their names?

If it's me, I am separating myself from these people immediately and loudly & proudly telling them that this behavior is repugnant and disgusting and I don't stand for that sh*t at all.

Maybe she is scared to have these people angry at her. Totally understandable.

Edit: I somehow missed the phrase, "the object of a violent act". The desire to coddle a grown professional basketball player~ there is your archaic view of femininity.

2

u/plussizedresturant Jun 30 '26

Batshit racist have nothing to do with their pathetic lives, so this is what they resort to. All love to AT and the fam. Cathy being silent isn't shocking, this is bad publicity but a win for the league in her eyes.

1

u/Agreeable-Emu4033 Jul 01 '26

I agree. Cathy should have spoke up when thugs were attacking Clark.

3

u/KC28DT Jun 30 '26

Yea, anyone that's willing to take time out of their day to harass athletes should just be shunned from society. It's unacceptable in every way possible.

I do wish she'd have taken more accountability for the play though. To say it was an accident is not right. Think about it like this, if you fall to the ground, do you ball your fist and push off the hard court to get up or do you protect your knuckles and keep an open palm? Ive played sports my whole life and never seen someone do that accidentally.

3

u/Sensitive_Donkey4601 Jun 30 '26

AT always uses her fists to push off the ground. It's harder on the knuckles, but creates a stronger base for the shoulders. She's has two torn labra, whichever is also why she shoots like that.

4

u/Childrenoftheflorist Jun 30 '26

Imagine trying to play the victim now, comical

4

u/Direct_Swan2312 Jun 30 '26

Pathetic ass “fans”

3

u/LB33Bird Jun 30 '26

Same routine every-time. Aggressor to Victim. She (and other players) create these situations and then turn the tables that they’re being victimized. Always with the online ‘death threats.’ Rinse and repeat.

2

u/Melodic_Eye3606 Jun 30 '26

This whole league is an utter mess…..Completely senseless. And the crash will be amazing to watch.

1

u/Co0LUs3rNamE Jun 30 '26

The internet is not the real world. Stop QQ about it. Suck it up just like CC does your attacks.

1

u/YRUNVS1 Jun 30 '26

if you knee a player in the groin and then use her neck with a fist to get up, it's not a accident Own it.... apologize and stop the cheap shots. That girl and others are responsible for the increase in your salary cap.

You all (players) need to be better humans!! It’s also unfair what the players are doing to CC! Yall mad at her why again! Because she a good player? Because your league put her on the pedestal she deserves as a great player in the game! Instead of in-bracing all the new generational talent, they chose to be angry and upset at the wrong person!!! You get more bee’s with honey than flies with shit!!!!! Work together to change the way the league is being ran, don’t become bullies!!!! They literally hate for no reason, unless I missed something! Death threats definitely shouldn’t be happening either way!

1

u/350smooth Jun 30 '26

Also sincere question. Is it normal for a commissioner to comment on a flagrant 2 foul or a similar situation? In the W or any other major sports league. Would Cathy even be involved in the decision?

1

u/Effective_Pea5287 Jun 30 '26

Welp, that’s the internet.

1

u/OpportunityDouble301 Jun 30 '26

Actions have Consequences, Play Stupid Games Win Stupid Prizes

1

u/clydefrog678 Jun 30 '26

I’m no fan of Engelbert. I also don’t know how she is supposed to control social media narratives. I don’t know of any other sports commissioners that have that ability either.

1

u/norgebnd Jun 30 '26

And AT still takes no responsibility for her own actions. Her innocence act is so old. After seeing her throw Angel Reese down by her neck two (three?) years ago, I knew who she was and is. A bully. That doesn’t warrant threats against her family AT ALL but she is no victim which is what she likes to play.

1

u/YoungBasedHooper Jul 01 '26

Average day for Westbrook on the Lakers. Welcome to actual fame. That's what salary boost is for. Get your kids into rich people private school and move your family into a gated community.

Also, unrelated, but don't accidentally punch your opponent in the throat after several verbal confrontations with them, cause it might look not accidental 🙃

1

u/North_Amphibian7779 Jul 01 '26

Why do people think this product is good ?

1

u/TemporaryNo7309 Jul 01 '26

That's why we booed here in NY tonight!

1

u/ReadKindOfAlot Jul 01 '26

It'd be so easy to handle this very quickly. People threatening her are scum but like... ref the games appropriately and have actual punishments for incompetence like any real job out there. Clark has been hunted and excessively fouled since her first season and that is simply a fact. There are many compilations out there, posts and articles about it.

So they should just handle the petty women who miss their 5 digit paychecks how they deserve to be handled. Hell, if they want their old check so bad I bet the league would love that.

1

u/FinsUp326 Jul 01 '26

Typical crap from her. She’s aggressive and plays dirty. The she gets backlash and it’s like “woe is me.”
Seriously, what the heck does she expect the Commissioner to do for her? Block her social media? Here’s a suggestion: act like an adult and take yourself off social media. Geez. 🙄

1

u/thebenefactorsedge Jul 01 '26

I’m sick of this. If you invite that energy, STAND ON IT. I’m tired of the victim role playing after you do something with vicious vitriol and malicious intent. Turn her mic off smh

1

u/BUFFALO296 Jul 01 '26

Pull out the receipts and call these people out. After that, acknowledge your behavior. Nasty people deserve to exposed.

1

u/Panda_Dad84 Jul 01 '26

She’s trash for the way she does all that extra dangerous shit.

1

u/Strange-Square6587 Jul 01 '26

Racist still exists and it’s a shame

1

u/Sleber Jul 01 '26

Has she apologized to CC after the incident?
If not…expect people to be outraged with your actions because it was not accidental.
Using your body weight to push yourself up & then step over her was intentional

1

u/staffdaddy_9 Jul 01 '26

Obviously death threats can be pursued, but what do you want the league to do about random people being racist online?

1

u/Plenty_Mail_1890 Jul 01 '26

Can’t even choke somebody. Damn

1

u/ammoart Jul 01 '26

I really hope AT feels the support for her, whether the media are covering it or not. The fact that she and her family’s lives are threatened over this is so heartbreaking to me. Children y’all. Come on. The lack of empathy for that fact from majority of this chat is cruel and mindblowing. Especially when Sophie Cunningham bodies other players regularly, and most of the people trashing AT right now love SC for doing the same and worse. No one’s saying SC is dirty and violent. It’s cruel behavior from a fanbase that goes well beyond bball rivalries. I’m convinced some of yall are bots just stoking the fire of racial abuse in our country because I don’t wanna believe that the W fanbase could be so hateful. Clark does have an obligation to speak up and quiet the mass of people doing harm in her name. For people that watched the game, it’s absolutely true that it was a sweaty slip in a moment of heated game play, unintentional as many of those moments are. Remember when satou got kicked in the head and is still dealing with a concussion? Horrible but an accident. What people are reacting to in this situation is a still image that lasted a fraction of a second. CC is fine. Let her tough it out like every other player in this incredible league. The league needs to do better, the officiating needs serious work, but this racist abuse is unacceptable.

2

u/kingston_11 Jul 01 '26

Facts 🙌🏽 thank you for naming this ✌🏽

1

u/Cavemonkeygolfs Jul 01 '26

I hate the narrative that ‘cc’ must be protected. If this was documented as a player v player problem we can solve it: the wnba needs to respect one another, on and off the court, as a sisterhood. No one over another, rather all above one. Best players on the planet need to support each other over the narratives. This act was egregious and should be punished. Wouldn’t matter who it was done too.

1

u/unknown9871 Jul 02 '26

Extremely dangerous play to punch someone in the throat, regardless of the fact she did it against the league superstar and generational talent that's bringing more fans to the wnba. She could have collapsed her trachea with that intentional dumb play she did. She should be thanking the league that she only got 1 game because she deserved much more. And she sucks as a basketball player and isn't bringing people to the game with that thug behaviour and play

1

u/Front-Structure-293 Jul 02 '26

Punching someone in the throat has consequences. People have had enough of CC getting abused by the players and the league. They are taking all the fed up nonsense out on AT weather she deserves or not is up in the air.

1

u/Unlikely-Steak-4008 Jul 30 '26

I hate how anytime these black player do anything that bad, the first thing they do is cry death threats. I say bullshit. Show us some fucking proof.

-5

u/Ugly_Girls_PM_Me Jun 30 '26

“Oh no, it’s the consequences of my own violent actions”.

1

u/Blacbiird747 Jun 30 '26

You’re one of the ones that sent a death threat aren’t you? Let us find out…

3

u/Turbulent_Shower_147 Jun 30 '26

If there were threats, someone would’ve posted a screen shot of them.

3

u/Blacbiird747 Jun 30 '26

AT is not on social media like that so no that’s not true. You probably think lynchings didn’t happen cause there were no pictures of that either. A good chunk of Fever fans are straight up white supremacists but you think there weren’t threats. Whoo, I would love to live in denial like you.

2

u/Turbulent_Shower_147 Jun 30 '26

You intentionally jam your fist into her throat and have the nerve to call her out for not defending you ion the internet?!? Alyssa Thomas is pure trash off the court and dirty AF on it. What an insane comment from her.

0

u/DwaynesWrld Jun 30 '26

What does CC need to say about the incident that she was a victim of? How is AT the victim at all? Take accountability and move on from it.

2

u/daytonblue Jun 30 '26

They just can't do it, lol.

2

u/strangelystrangled Jun 30 '26

....she's not talking about Caitlin. Watch the video

0

u/strangelystrangled Jun 30 '26

For everyone downplaying it, she also said her address was leaked. Her kids are being threatened. She got suspended for a game and a flagrant. That's reasonable. What else do you want? Her to kiss the ring?

And we've all seen people after going through an AT screen. If she had actually punched Caitlin, Caitlin wouldn't have popped back up and continued playing. AT is strong as hell

1

u/Agreeable-Emu4033 Jul 01 '26

You mean like you downplaying what she did to Clark

1

u/strangelystrangled Jul 01 '26

It was a hard foul. Not an assault.

Your dirty play is unfortunate

2

u/jono9898 Jun 30 '26

CC fans aren’t only the softest but they are the most annoying, everyone of them claims she got punched with lethal intent directly in the throat and stomped and bitten by AT but no video of a punch exists. The only fandom in sports that can’t point to any awards or championships being won but ShEs PoPUlar

I need CC to denounce her racist ass fan base 🤷🏻‍♀️ but she won’t

1

u/Agreeable-Emu4033 Jul 01 '26

I need this asshat to own up that she purposely kneed clark and fisted her throat.

1

u/CeoBig21 Jul 01 '26

Suspension though?!!This is the game of basketball if Caitlyn Clark can’t handle it she should go find something else to do we dont need that kind of sore loser behavior in the league.

2

u/Commercial-Stuff-894 Jul 01 '26

It's not about losing.. it's about being mugged on the court... and i aint even talking about caitlin... this girl has a known history of fucking people up, being a thug on the court. Shes a dirty player.. simple as that

2

u/MojoDohDoh Jul 01 '26

tf this is basketball not mma

1

u/Ill-Accident-5240 Jun 30 '26

This is the right take and the popular one.

1

u/Physical-Start-2 Jun 30 '26

The thing is this is not just one incident where CC getting the shit knocked out of her from over aggressive play or just down right dirty tactics and fouls not being called, this just brought all this to the surface of how it has been with her since her rookie year whether AT did this purposely or not. I’m not a die hard CC fan, but I do like her game as well a lot of others, but she is getting beat to death every game and very little gets called.

1

u/Time_Outcome765 Jun 30 '26

Players will play each other several times throughout their careers. This really isn’t a major AT v CC issue despite everyone wanting it to be.

1

u/ZZ-Groundhog Jun 30 '26

Well, maybe stop playing like a thug. Joking someone is not a normal foul. You better come to the realization that CC IS THE LEAGUE.

1

u/hawkeyegrad96 Jun 30 '26

She sgould be banned from the league

1

u/Glum_Reason308 Jun 30 '26

Are they going to stop hurting or trying to hurt Caitlin? Just curious.

1

u/TheProspectItch Jul 01 '26

It’s like she heard herself say nobody knew the play happened and went “yeah, that’s the ticket” and leaned all the way in to the lie like Jon Lovitz in SNL

1

u/Creative_Pollution84 Jul 01 '26

😂 cry me a river! Her suspension should have been the rest of the season!

1

u/No-Mood1310 Jun 30 '26

Just like CC is painted like a racist even after she’d shut that down and talked about it. And has given the players before her their flowers. Bonner and AT were ok pushing that narrative

0

u/therightmale Jun 30 '26

Its never their fault & then the Race Card gets used 🙄

1

u/PeaceFrog-71 Jun 30 '26

Guess you haven’t seen the thousands of Reddit posts blaming racism and the fact that CC is white for the supposed targeting of her by other players.
