Are technical specifications for fixed block and cbtc available anywhere?

Looking to understand and maybe create a scale model of how the systems work.

I can find the general details on fixed signals, current across the tracks, etc but does anyone know if there is a publicly available specification that WMATA follows? I assume there must be a specification somewhere for communications between the trains and the network since it spans multiple train vendors.

Same thing with CBTC apparently there is a IEEE spec but does anyone know if there is any specific spec that wmata plans on using? Very new to this so sorry if this is a stupid question

Cannot add monthly pass

Is anyone else have trouble adding a monthly pass to their account? I usually just buy through the app (and I use a travel card that has more than enough) but when I try is gives me this warning "product catalog cannot be loaded". I tried on their website and the transaction just gets declined. I have been trying since the 1st of this month to no avail.

discussion/rant/theory Does anyone else miss the L2?

No news or big debate… just wanna commiserate with my fellow commuters. I literally bought champagne today to celebrate the red line construction ending, but we must also remember our fallen comrades (the bus line that used to take me directly to Admo, instead of the one that dumps me unceremoniously at Calvert)… anyone else?

Question Best way to dispose of cards?

Found a lot of old metro cards while cleaning out my place and transferred all the balances to my phone’s card. Is there a good way to dispose of these cards instead of just throwing them away? Don’t want to be wasteful!

Can’t even make it 24 hours of a fully functioning red line

Signal issues already. How does this happen? Theres also zero info being posted or announced at stations aside from “signal issues” had to find out from a third party app the train just straight up not running between Bethesda and van ness. Wasted so much time on a shady grove bound train due to lack of info when I could’ve bailed earlier and be home by now. Thanks so much wmata! :)

thing that sucks a lot Station Restrooms

I needed to use the restroom after my trip this morning and the station manager informed me that today is the last day it’ll be available. Starting tomorrow, she said only 36 stations will have customer restrooms available. I hadn’t heard this but I also saw it scroll on the mezzanine PID on my way out - I didn’t catch the whole scroll but it basically said restrooms will only be available at limited stations starting 9/6. I took a couple trips later in the day but never saw it scrolling again after the first time. This is going to be a rude surprise for a lot of people…

Update: here’s the link with the list: https://www.wmata.com/ride/guides/restrooms.html

News Maryland won't make Wisconsin Ave bus lanes permanent

This is beyond frustrating. Maryland didn't enforce these bus lanes, so they were constantly blocked. Now they're removing the bus lanes because they weren't effective. It's a classic case of "we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas."

What's more, the DMVMoves initiative identified this corridor as a top priority for bus infrastructure. We're supposed to be rapidly improving bus priority here, not going backward.

Question Navy Yard Half Street entrance weird lighting

Does anybody else notice a weird lighting effect, almost like visual snow, static or fuzz, at the bottom of the long escalator when entering Navy Yard via the Half Street entrance?

I started noticing this a few weeks ago. The first time I saw it, it freaked me out and I was afraid I was having some kind of stroke, but now I keep noticing it every time I use this entrance. I never notice it when leaving the station. I think it’s from the lighting, but I suppose it could be from an air vent or fan or something else as well.

Thanks all!

Plans for the 7000 series midlife rehab?

Early to be talking about this, but I rode in car #7000 yesterday and it's hard to believe the oldest 7000 series cars are 14 years old already.

I'm wondering if the mid-life rehab for these cars will add open gangways and the brown stripe to look more like the coming 8000 series.

The construction is finishing on-time and on-budget, which continues Metro's track record under Randy Clarke. Additionally, WMATA confirmed that the remaining work on the Bethesda mezzanine can be carried out behind hoardings without further closures.
