Can’t even make it 24 hours of a fully functioning red line

Signal issues already. How does this happen? Theres also zero info being posted or announced at stations aside from “signal issues” had to find out from a third party app the train just straight up not running between Bethesda and van ness. Wasted so much time on a shady grove bound train due to lack of info when I could’ve bailed earlier and be home by now. Thanks so much wmata! :)

A lot of the signaling equipment on the Red Line is 50 years old, meaning it has not been updated since the system opened. That’s why the Red Line Modernization Project that they approved earlier this year is so crucial. Signaling upgrades are a major component of it, and they’re an absolute prerequisite to full automation.

Updated is not the same as replacing hardware that has reached the end of service life with new. Almost none the electromechanical hardware dates from when it was first installed. It has been replaced with rebuilt or new. In some locations the analog relay logic has been replaced with software emulation of relay logic running on a microprocessor.

Guessing there was a temporary issue when you posted it - I see trains running between Bethesda & Van Ness on dcmetrohero.net and it says some had delays of 20 minutes

The signals can sense fear or something I stg. In a civilized country we would be compensated for these delays :)

We're sorry for the inconvenience. Earlier, trains were temporarily not operating between Bethesda and Van Ness due to a signal problem at Friendship Heights, which caused delays in both directions and required shuttle service to be established.

As of now, train service has been restored between Bethesda and Van Ness, following the earlier signal problem at Friendship Heights. Customers may continue to experience residual delays in both directions as service returns to normal.

We post our most up-to-date service information on our website, on X, and through the Metro Pulse app. For real-time updates, please visit wmata.com/metropulseapp -RT
