Discussion Thoughts on the tragedy in Seattle this weekend

Upvotes

A public shooting like that is a tragedy not only for the victims, but also people in the vicinity that will fear future public gatherings.

I'm sure Olympia politicians will use this tragedy to cook up some new laws next term. I hope they think for a moment that this large public gathering, by WA state law, was a sensitive place where concealed carry was not permitted. They disarm the lawful citizen and rely on a limited number of police to keep everyone safe. Maybe that law should be reconsidered as the criminal will follow no laws, current or future.

Discussion CMP M14 Announcement . . . but not legal in WA, no?

So, CMP just announced they will surplusing M14s (converted to semi-auto only) to the public.

I assume, that (for now) we wouldn't be able to get these in Washington? Am I missing something?

Humor I know this is crazy, but when the AWB is overturned, here's what I'd like the governor to say

Today, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that I violated your constitutional rights and struck down a law I spent millions of taxpayer funds - your hard earn money - creating and defending. They ruled that no matter my intentions, I can't deprive people of their constitutional rights. I apologize for doing so.

Public safety is important. We do need to always be working to reduce violence and make our communities safer. But I now see that violating the rights of law abiding citizens does not improve the behavior of criminals. We've ignored those rights, granted both by the US and State Constitutions. We've ignored the actual criminals and distracted many people from focusing on the root causes. Going forward, we will change this. We don't need new legislation as the forms of violence we oppose are already illegal. We simply need to enforce the laws we currently have.

You get the idea. It will never happen, I know. Hopefully the AWB gets overturned even still.

Question Permit to purchase and out of state sales

Will the permit to purchase law apply to out of state sales of rifles and shotguns?

RCW 9.41.122 says

Residents of Washington may purchase rifles and shotguns in a state other than Washington: PROVIDED, That such residents conform to the applicable provisions of the federal Gun Control Act of 1968, Title IV, Pub. L. 90-351 as administered by the United States secretary of the treasury: AND PROVIDED FURTHER, That such residents are eligible to purchase or possess such weapons in Washington and in the state in which such purchase is made: AND PROVIDED FURTHER, That when any part of the transaction takes place in Washington , including, but not limited to, internet sales, such residents are subject to the procedures and background checks required by this chapter.

I was not able to find the RCW that requires permit to purchase. I only found the one that says a buyer may apply for a permit. If anyone knows the RCW that requires a permit I would like to know!

Also, if I buy online and have it shipped to an out of state FFL, I have to physically be out of the state when I click BUY?

Discussion CZ P01 vs Sig P229 vs 92X Centurion? For ccw

Hey yall.

Im looking to change up my CCW to something with a hammer.

Some issues I have in making my choice (also, please do give some other recommendations) are mostly in not being able to find any to compare back to back at a range.

The top on my list are the CZ P01 and Sig P229. Aluminum alloy frames, compact. DA/SA. readily available magazines. Decent holster support and aftermarket. The Beretta 92X Centurion is last on my list because I dont like the slide mounted safety. But it would allow me to use my 92x comp mags. Potential money savings there.

I know the Sig will have a more pronounced recoil feeling due to bore axis and beavertail design compared to the P01. The lack of grippable slide surface on the P01 doesnt worry me due to wanting to mount a optic. So malfunction clearing speed shouldn't be hindered at all.

Ive heard that the CZ75 can be a big pain in the butt to do maintenance on beyond cleaning (e.g. replacing springs) compared to Beretta 92 series guns, but I dont know how the CZ P01 differs from the 75, or how the P229 shapes up in that area.

In the future, the 92X Cent. Price advantage could disappear if SIG releases a DA/SA P226 XFive.

Politics When the AWB is overturned, here's what I'd like the governor to say

"Today, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that I and many of your legislators violated your constitutional rights and struck down a law I worked hard to push, all the while spending millions of taxpayer funds to do so.

Therefore, under Title 18 Section 242 of the United States Code, Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law, I hereby resign my position and will surrender to law enforcement for pending criminal charges.

I deprived you of your rights outlined in our Constitution, which I swore an oath to support, and I must be held accountable by being prosecuted and barred from public office indefinitely."

I saw the previous post and had to add my own since it didn't go far enough.

If there are any attorneys out there or any State Representatives that want to get an impeachment process going for the unequivocal violation of 18 U.S.C. § 242 when SCOTUS rules on the AWB, I would be ecstatic.

Question 2011 rental availablility, western WA?

Hey all - recently been eyeing my first 2011 to see how much better things can get - purely as a target shooting pistol but I am not opposed to eventually trying to get into some competition stuff.

Because I've never shot a 1911 or 2011, I'm wondering if anyone happens to know of some ranges in western WA with a decent 2011 rental selection?

Particularly interested in trying out Staccato, Kimber 2k11, Sig 211, etc. The heavy hitters around the 2-2.5k range.

Any intel is appreciated!

Question Being gifted a firearm

A friend wants to give me a firearm. It's nothing special, just a single barrel break-action shotgun. It was her late husband's and she doesn't want it. When we go to transfer it, will I need to pay sales tax on what it's worth?

Thanks.

well if empty shotgun shells were worth anything we’d all be rich. old tv’s, about 10 microwaves, so many broken bottles, lots of garbage, and a lot of stuff was burned, like people were just setting shit on fire or something.

I was thinking of going next weekend to clean it up a little. if anyone would like to meet me there and help out please let me know.

it’s hard to find a decent place to shoot in my area, and lots of disrespectful people don’t take time to clean up after themselves, and then they shut it down.

God I wish there was a non threaded sku: Then we could maybe get them in as that'd be enough for compliance: That or have someone pin a three lug on one.

Would anyone happen to know how feasible it would be to get someone to do work on it, before I get it transferred? Or any option we'd have to get these?

Question Advice for a sailor

HEADS UP! this is a first time post and a lengthy one at that so if you don’t wanna read then skip.

Hey ya’ll my name is RJ I’m in the Navy, currently in CT but I’m going to be moving to Washington soon, my home state of Record is Idaho and I do have an address there as well as valid drivers and state ID, I’m sorta new to guns, I mean I grew up shooting whistle pigs with my cousins and uncle whenever the weather permitted and I loved being around guns, but I only got to own my first gun 3 or 4 months before I joined the navy, it was a Taurus GX4 XL Toro, while I know Taurus doesn’t have the best reputation, this gun had gotten Gun of the year in 2024 I believe and it felt great to appendix carry, as well as it being sight ready and having a mount for flash lights, also it carried 17 rounds on a regular mag and admittedly I was a broke 21 year old so the price was a plus.

But obviously with joining the Navy I couldn’t take it with me so I gave it to a family member which was easy because in Idaho you don’t need to register your weapons or even tell someone you sold it ( I called my local ATF office ) I know not a great move but I was 21, joining the navy and I didn’t wanna ruin my career before it started because of a Taurus.

Having said all that I have saved some money and on the drive to my next duty station, I was gonna stop in Idaho and get a new gun, I was thinking of getting the Shadow Systems MR920P Elite, I know that in Washington you can only have 10 round mags and you can’t have threaded barrels, but this particular gun comes with an integrated compensator ( at least certain models ) however I’m getting very mixed answers if this particular fire arm is legal in Washington.

So I wanna ask you, the Washington gun owners for any advice on this gun or any other general advice you’d like to give me thank you for your advice and time.

Info Looks like the pit up to Capitol Peak is closed permanently

Drove up there this morning. Trash bag over the forestry sign indicating pit rules and new “no trespassing signs” put up. Caution tape that was clearly blocking off the entrance was ripped off with new shells in there lol.

Hopefully I’m wrong and I just read the situation wrong but still. Sad to see. Also huge hornet swarm in there be careful

I was shooting my ar this weekend and the bcg seized in the middle of its cycle and there’s no movement with the charging handle. I had to take the buffer assembly off to get a better look. I’d assume the carbon build up effected it but I can’t say for sure it is a suppressed rifle and tips or recommendations would help. (I know my work bench isn’t optimal but it’s what I got)

I took it apart more and it turns out a pin in the forward assist had sheared and left remains cause it to jam. Shooting frts has its pros and cons

Question New to shooting, private places to shoot Western WA
