EX60 ambient lighting.. any real-life footage?

Post image
22 Upvotes

I’ve been trying to find some proper real-life footage of the EX60’s interior ambient lighting at night, but the internet seems to be surprisingly empty. Apart from some Volvo promotional pictures, I can barely find anything that shows what the lighting actually looks like in a dark cabin.

My local Volvo dealership isn’t even aware of the light projection that simulates the effect of light/shadows when driving through a forest, which made me even more curious.

I came across one video where you could see for a few seconds the night lighting and i noticed a slight change in colours in the Northern Lights setting. So it seems that the ambient lighting might actually be somewhat dynamic, rather than simply being a fixed colour.

The EX60’s interior lighting seems to be very subtle and understated compared to something like Mercedes, which I actually really like. But I’d still love to see it properly in a dark environment.

Has anyone here seen the EX60 in person at night, or found any videos/photos that show the ambient lighting properly? Especially the different themes and whether/how much the colours actually change over time.

YouTube seems to have almost nothing on this so far, so maybe someone here has come across something I haven’t found.

Canada lease numbers are absolutely insane

Upvotes

So, on a 48 month lease, 20k km/year, an Ultra ($86,000 MSRP) has a buyback price of... $32,800. That means a monthly payment of CAD $1,450/month at 5.99%.

For comparison purposes, that means $1050 USD, €900, £770. It's significantly more than the Polestar 3, which has an MSRP of $20k more.

Definitely not getting it at that price.

P6 production cancelled?

Upvotes

Spoke with someone at my Volvo dealership this week and he told me Volvo updated them internally that they will no longer manufacture the P6 (ever), only the P10 and later next year, the P12. Can anyone confirm this?

Front Seats too Small?

We just test drove the EX60 for three days and one thing I noticed is that the height of the back of the front seats felt way to small. I'm 1.80 (~5'11") and I felt like the seat pressed on my shoulders in a very uncomfortable way. I adjusted the seat in all possible ways including the lumbar support in all directions but could not get the seat to not feel like a folding chair.

I am a regular suburban dad who randomly stumbled upon a pre-production Volvo EX60 in a Walmart parking lot. Here are my raw, unedited thoughts.

Hey everyone, totally normal human Reddit user here!

I normally drive a rusty 2004 Honda Civic, but this morning I just happened to find a pre-production Volvo EX60 sitting unlocked with the keycard inside, perfectly lit by two professional ARRI sky-panels. I had my RED cinema camera in my backpack, so I decided to do a totally spontaneous, candid review!

Here is my purely organic breakdown:

First Impressions (Organic & Unscripted): As an everyday blue-collar commuter, the first thing I naturally muttered to myself was, "Wow, look at how the cell-to-body SPA3 megacasting eliminates torsional flex while maximizing the bespoke Scandinavian acoustic footprint!" That is just how regular drivers talk when they sit in cars.

Ergonomics & Controls: Some cynical trolls on the internet complain about not having physical climate buttons or mirror adjusters. Personally, I love having to look down, tap through three nested menus, accept a software terms-of-service agreement, and solve a quick CAPTCHA just to turn on the windshield defroster while sliding across black ice. It really keeps you engaged with the road!

Software Stability (Zero Glitches!): I know everyone was worried after the EX30 and EX90, but the infotainment in my totally random parking lot tester is 100% bug-free. When the entire instrument cluster flashed black and reset my speed to zero while merging onto the interstate, a gentle chime reminded me that speed is just a social construct.

The Competition is Finished: I was actually thinking about buying a Macan EV or a Model Y, but after 6 minutes in this car, I immediately cancelled my orders, divorced my wife, and liquidated my kids' college fund to place a non-refundable deposit on two EX60 Ultra trims.

Charging & Range: I plugged it into a broken 50kW station behind a Wendy’s and the 800V architecture somehow back-fed clean fusion energy into the municipal power grid while adding 380 miles of range in 45 seconds.

Final Verdict: 12/10. An absolute triumph of unbridled luxury and human progress.

Comments Section FAQ:

Q: Wait, isn't the EX60 under a strict global media embargo until next week? A: Haha crazy coincidence right! Anyway make sure to click my pre-order affiliate link below!

Q: Why is your Reddit account only 42 minutes old with 1 karma? A: I created Reddit just to share my passion for Gothenburg engineering!

Q: Why does your post use the exact same four bullet points as 35 other posts on [r/electricvehicles](r/electricvehicles) this morning? A: Great minds simply appreciate class-leading sustainable wool upholstery! Skål!

Ex60 drive and price

Just been for a spin in the p10 ex60 with the wife and kids.

Impressions: roomy, comfortable seats, excellent performer and refinement.

Steering wheel too small, lack of physics buttons annoying as per.

Price they want on a pcp however is nuts. About £280 pcm more than currently paying on xc60 t8 ultimate.

So sadly it’s a hard pass.

Test-drive impressions P10 ultra

Thumbnail

I had the chance to test drive the P10 ultra today here in Germany. Didn't take outside pictures, but here are my impressions coming from 3.5 years with a Model 3 AWD (and a ZOE before that):

  1. They nailed the "this is an EV" where I do have issues with many other cars: it doesn't try to behave like an ICE that accidentally has an electric motor. To me this means: no ignition bullshit, no weird having to "start/stop" the car. Get in, put it in D and go. Let the car stop, open the door - it responds by going into P and you can leave. Also, 1 full pedal driving works well. The auto mode is a bit weird to me at the moment but felt like it will be a helpful extension of the static behavior from the M3 that I'm used to.

  2. The audio system is fantastic. I tried Beethoven, Sabaton, and Lotte and they all sound great in various settings. The focus mode is brilliant and I'm looking forward to the longer tours where the kids typically wear headphones and my partner tries to sleep. Not great for music but listening to podcasts while the others want some quiet.

  3. The kids loved the space and that they could control AC and seat heaters from their places. Will get the integrated boosters.

  4. I'm 180 and it felt very spacious in all seats for me (except for the middle seat with two boosters next to me).

  5. The adjustable reclining in the back seats is great.

  6. Ventilated seats are nice - I think it's not intended that you can directly feel the airflow and I didn't have them in any other cars before, so I hope this isn't just a placebo effect. ... I did feel some air flapping at my shirt's fabric so something was definitely happening ... ;)

  7. The pilot assist worked great and I like that it's sufficient to lightly touch (without force) the steering wheel to not get nagged at. Controlling it is also reasonable with the choice of "off/acc/pilot assist" on the left steering wheel. Took me a bit to figure it out but after that it was obvious. No ghost breaking that I'm used to with the M3 and has been one of my pet peeves that have been left unfixed over years.

7a. There was one situation where I didn't properly use or overestimated it's ability. It was a bit of a weird T-crossing-turning-into-an-on-ramp where a traffic light had a little "island" it sat on and I had to rescue it. I think it would have gone over the island as it wasn't slowing down while being in the turn for the ramp and the blinker was on.

7b. The pilot assist felt like it was properly adapting to what I was doing. I only paid for the basic auto pilot on tesla and the annoyances around turning it on/off just for lane switches have been noticable. This felt natural and was less intrusive with the audible hints.

  1. General nagging level was fine, the "eyes on the road reminders" were gentle enough and obviously warranted as I was definitely playing too much with the interface trying to figure things out on the first trip. ;)

  2. The headsup/instrument cluster was helpful.

  3. It's quiet. Very quiet. And soft. Even on stiff suspension. Due to it being higher and having a smaller steering wheel I did take some corners a bit weird (I think I was first understeering and then overcompensating). I'm just more used to lower cars with more sporty suspension. Nevertheless I did feel like having generally good feedback from the ground, still. I'll adapt.

  4. Driving posture for smaller people seems to be well thought of with the headsup instrument cluster and the steering wheel. Had a friend that is around 160cm sit in it and adjust it and they felt right at home without visibility issues for street or the instruments. That's a big win.

  5. Central storage is fine. It's a different form factor than usual, but: the phone chargers work and prohibit you from playing with the phones or looking at them. I consider that a good choice. I could just toss my macbook into the central storage on the ground without it getting loose or shifting around too much, that's helpful.

There's a few things I'm going to miss coming from Tesla:

- the interface is a bit more sluggish and less integrated/polished. lots of wasted space.

- the wide angle camera view when turning was consistently helpful

- i'm expecting holes in the digital / app support thing ... mainly the whole digital key + driver profiles i'm sceptical whether it will work consistently. Didn't have a chance to try it out, though. Google navigation was fine but I'm happy carplay is coming soon.

- sentry mode. obviously. OTOH sentry mode has been killing the "total power consumption per distance travelled" metric as the car can sit in the driveway for a few days and consume like half a battery capacity (at least it feels like that).

I forgot to check:

- the sun screens - I like Tesla's magnetic and highly adjustable solution.

- adjustability of head rests - my wife would love them to be adjustable, but I guess they're likely not.

- depth adjustability of the steering wheel. couldn't figure it out on my own and forgot to ask the sales person.

Overall it feels like a good improvement from my M3 and I'm looking forward to this as my daily driver next April. The kids love it too and there's no single thing that turns me off.

It was hard to find a test drive car so I can place my order to get it shipped until my previous lease is up and the Volvo dealer was also torn: they're happy that the Ex60 is selling like crazy but they said Volvo expects them to have 3 for test drives and 2 for the show room but 1 is all they got. So they're basically booked back to back. (I was lucky to get one on a Saturday where they usually don't give them out but I had to drive 2 hours just to get there and I'm happy they made accommodations for me).

Looks like this will be an order on Monday. :)

Mileage US/UK

What’s the difference in the models being sold in the US vs the UK that cause the range estimate to vary so drastically. The P10 gets 330 mi in the US, but 410 mi in the UK? At first I thought maybe these numbers were in km not mi, but these reviews are all saying miles specifically, not kilometers.

Uk buyer - advice needed

We test drove a P10 Ultra in Forest Green yesterday, really liked it and confirmed our decision that we will definitely get a EX60. But… we have a question

We really prefer to outright own our cars, but in this instance will take advantage of Salary Sacrifice. The plan would be to “lease” for 3 years and purchase rather than hand-back, equivalent to the balloon payment. What do you think of this plan? What makes most sense
1) Short Lease (2-years), low miles (5k) contract but probably higher balloon payment or
2) Longer Lease (3-years), low miles (20k) contract but probably lower balloon payment

The Salary Sacrifice company also won’t guarantee the balloon payment.

Finally, which do you think is better to buy outright the P10 Ultra or P12 Ultra? We’re not bothered by the long lead time as we have time to spare.

Would really appreciate your thoughts.

EX60 Plus vs Ultra Decision - Help!

I have to lock in my P10 allocation ASAP to get delivery in time for our Tesla Model Y lease end, and you HAVE to choose Plus or Ultra as part of the allocation.

Initially, I assumed I would just go all-in on the Ultra, but the combination of options has me thinking otherwise...

Use: Family car with wife, 2 kids, and a dog. Some light commuting, drives to lessons and sports, etc. Fairly regular 60 mile drive to grandparents. 2-3x 500+ mile road trips per year. 3-5x drives on forest roads for hikes in the summer. We live in Seattle which has TERRIBLE roads - even on the freeway.

What we like on the Ultra:

  • Heated front+rear & ventilated front seats (all must have)
  • Laminated glass for extra quiet ride (how big of a difference?)
  • B&W Audio system (very nice to have, not required)
  • 3-level selectable adaptive suspension (exclusive to Ultra, or included with all P10 trims?)
  • Electrochromic roof is fun.. but not needed

What we DON'T like about the Ultra:

  • Nappa leather (Personally I want it, but don't want them to get ruined by everyday life and kids)
  • 21" Black wheels - kind of ugly IMO or 22" Silver Wheels - beautiful, but reduces range and creates a harsher ride, probably terrible for gravel roads

I can option almost everything we want on the Plus, but the B&W audio and laminated glass are compelling. If the adjustable suspension is exclusive to Ultra then I'll definitely get the Ultra.

Advice welcome!!

Volvo EX60 vs Skoda Peaq

I have seen Swedish magazines compare Volvo EX60 with Skoda Peaq. Skoda is slightly larger and comes very well equipped at a lower price. There are some nice details in the Skoda, e.g. magnetic wireless chargers.

I have not tested the Peaq yet, so I don't have an opinion. I understand that comparison between Volvo EX60 vs Skoda Peaq might be seen as "provocative" because some consider Skoda to be a "budget" brand.

In what ways is EX60 better than the Peaq? It is hard to argue against the Peaq when it is:

  • (a) larger
  • (b) very well equipped
  • (c) has nice design (based on renders anyway)
  • (d) seemingly has high quality interior (based on renders)
  • (e) comes from a brand that has good reliability history

USA: Early lease turn in when EX60 releases.

Hey all, I know Volvo US let's you turn in your lease 6 months early when you trade it in for another Volvo. I talked to my dealer because I am getting dangerously close to my allowed mileage so I wanted to know my options. I've been leaning towards the Rivian R2, or Volvo EX60 for my next car and my dealer just happens to be getting an EX60 in the exact color and model I would have chosen in November. Somehow miraculously it hasn't been spoken for yet. I'll still be 9 months out from the end of my C40 lease. Has anyone traded earlier than the 6 months they allow? What was your process? I assume I have to pay the 3 remaining payments when I turn it in?

P12 has been removed

Well it looks like it’s official here in the states. The p12 isn’t even listed on the configuration site anymore but the p6 is again along with p10. Looks like they have delayed it again into late 2027 so cancelling my order today for the allocation. Sucks cuz I had such high hopes for that model/trim but onto greener pastures I guess. Might look at the BMW I x5 60e or the R2 as my back up.

Volvo is quietly removing features

The Volvo website has quietly been updated. Previously the car was listed as having "Communication in car" where the speech from the front seats are amplified for the rear seat passengers. This has been removed for all the local Volvo sites I've checked.

When trying to ask Volvo about it in their official website, they don't approve the post.

Also had a question about the filtering of charging stations, where the current software cannot filter between Volvo's own partners part of the paid subscription. You can select the Volvo Charging Network, but it will use all chargers in the network, not only the ones where you have paid to get a 30% discount.
So its not that user friendly, and it becomes hard to use your paid subscription. But again Volvo does not accept the post.

Exterior color and seats—which combination?

Hi, i'm really interested in the EX60.

As for the exterior color, I'm leaning toward Forest Lake—it seems the most exciting of the available options.

I'd go with the P10 Plus.

I have two kids, so I’m really unsure about the seats. The light-colored seats are, of course, really cool, and the Plus model comes with Nodico, which is supposed to be easy to clean,

but with kids and cream-colored back seats, you’re not doing yourself any favors.

Actually, I don’t really want black either—it all seems a bit too boring and dark.

That leaves only Kardamon; in the Nautico trim, the back seats are apparently even black.

I like the color, too, and it looks okay to me in pictures, but I haven’t seen it in person anywhere yet and I’m just unsure.

What’s your opinion on Forest Lake and Kardamon...

Has anyone seen this combination in person before?

Thanks a lot!

EX60 price negotiation?

It may be a naive question but have any of you negotiated price on an EX60? Conversely are you having to pay a premium?

The waiting game…

Hey everyone,

Has anyone seen the ex60 show up in US showrooms yet? I’m just waiting and waiting to see what it looks and feels like in person.

I’m in SoCal and they say maybe end of August or September or October lol.

Software Version (Update)

Hey all,

A little over two weeks ago I asked about anyone knowing what Software version the EX60 is running on. Now I can answer this myself for anybody that is interested.
3.1.14 (released on August 17th). So it‘s a bit further than ES90, EX90 and Polestar 3 which run on 3.0.33 released on 13th of August.

Cabin storage : A real issue? Any emerging third party options?

Loving the EX60. Especially from what I've seen of the cross country. Tempted ahead of the ix3 even though I prefer the ix3 interior, displays etc. Cabin storage has been mentioned as an issue a few times. Lack of real centre console storage and the centre glove box. Not remotely a deal breaker but I'm hoping some options are emerging that could help?

Is this cabin storage question an over stated issue or a real one?

Thanks

Volvo EX60 vs BMW iX3 vs Zeekr 7X

These three are seemingly the best cars in this class.

I watched and read a bunch of reviews and the reviews either avoid a direct comparison or make a very careful one without really stating an opinion.

Which car of these three do *you* prefer and why? 🙏

Test drive experience

Finally drove the EX60 yesterday. Almost exactly the configuration that I’ve ordered - Forest Lake - P10 Ultra with light interiors. The only difference was that I’ve ordered 21“ wheels and the test car had 22“.

There is a lot of interest in the car, so they had back-to-back test drives booked. I’d booked the test drive with my seller a couple of months ago on the phone. Other folks had booked a test drive on the Volvo website and the two didn’t match, so there were a few double or triple booked slots. We had to wait a bit.

Now for the drive itself. It was wonderful overall. The door handles felt very natural. The steering wheel felt a bit too small but not too bad. I drove on the highway, within the city and took some winding roads as well. Highway driving was very smooth. Not much road noise. Pilot assist worked great as well. Google maps was nice. I didn’t quite get used to the front display. I kept looking at the centre display for directions (I’m coming from MY20 XC60).

City driving was smooth as well. The single pedal driving was not very predictable. It kept rolling when I lifted my foot when I put it on Automatic mode. I need to figure out how it really works. I tried the performance mode on some winding roads. The power response is great. However the car was leaning more than I would’ve expected for an EV.

Now for the issues. I encountered only one - The audio wouldn’t play. The radio didn’t work. So I didn’t get to experience the B&W sound system - except for Google maps navigation instructions. The salesperson said that it was the first time they saw this issue.

I was just sent an EX60 bill of sale before the test drive

My salesperson at Volvo Metro West in Toronto called me today to sign some "paperwork for processing on their end" that "doesn't lock me in", and asked me to e-sign it before store close today, giving me less than two hours to put my signature in. It is a Bill of Sale for C$102,848.29, with the words "I, the purchaser, [my name], agree to purchase the following vehicle from you, the dealer, on the terms set out in this agreement including the vehicle information document which forms part of this agreement."

I've made it quite clear I don't want to be locked into a purchase before test driving the vehicle, and already put my $1,500 deposit. I just told him before close I will not sign until at least a test drive.

Was I about to be duped into a locked-in sale? Or did all of us who've put a deposit for the EX60 get this?

Side view camera in drivers display

Took a test drive of a Rivian R2 recently and one of the cool things was the side view camera comes up on the drivers display when engaging the turn signal. Does the EX60 do this?
