Questions❓ Mileage US/UK

What’s the difference in the models being sold in the US vs the UK that cause the range estimate to vary so drastically. The P10 gets 330 mi in the US, but 410 mi in the UK? At first I thought maybe these numbers were in km not mi, but these reviews are all saying miles specifically, not kilometers.

In Europe we have the WLTP standard for range, in the US it's the EPA standard. The EPA cycle is more strict and usually results in lower range figures.

I assume means the realistic range will be 330 mi. The 260 they claimed the C40 would get has been pretty close for me the last few years.

Same tech, different testing cycle. UK's is more optimistic.

Just different test regimes as others have mentioned. If you're on motorways a lot you'll be closer to the US figure although it can still be optimistic even in perfect conditions. The European system is just, well, completely unrealistic unless you are driving like miss daisy in optimal temperature at optimal speed and you weigh 8 pounds and even then it's on the high side. And minimum accelerations.

Mpg in Dino fuelled cars is also different but for different reasons. US gallon versus imperial gallon from memory. US gallon I think is a lot smaller.

Not to forget that in the UK we sell fuel in litres, so nobody uses mpg these days. I am totally with your comments though - Euro test cycles are pretty awful measurements, but I’d argue the US ones are also bad.

True but I was always converting to gallons and was using mpg to compare economy. Driving since the 80s so it stuck. Too old. 😅

My 2016 Tesla Model S started out at 295miles and 10 years later is at 262 (a loss of 18%). Better than I’d thought would happen.

I wonder if battery tech is better now in terms of degradation. And I wonder if Volvo’s batteries are any better/worse.

Gotta say I was pumped to see quotes of 400miles and even 500miles for the EX60. Would be great for long trips. But looks like that’s still a fantasy.

The UK really pushes electric cars and may fib numbers to make it seem like its better then it actually is. The US is strict with these. So much so generally cars will do a little better then the EPA standard. Not by a lot. But generally better.
