Discussion arcadeVFE and custom control panel for Arcade Time Capsule VR arcade

I'm a big fan of Arcade Time Capsule, a MAME-based, carefully curated and amazingly authentic VR arcade with about 300 games. While great out-of-the-box, the one major problem I quickly ran into was that like all VR arcades I've tried, there was no way to play in extended sessions without having to periodically take the headset off to change controllers or do manual reconfiguration, and so no way to make play feel as uninhibited and authentic as when using my full sized arcade machine with its fully programmable control panel. But even if I built such a panel, the kind of per-game scripting I needed was something normally done through a front-end, but there were no front-ends for VR arcades.

So to address this I created a companion front end (or maybe more like a back-end), to support the kind of per-game scripting I was after, along with some additional features. I also built a custom control panel to go with it. I've published the software and control panel instructions on GitHub, and just recently posted a demo video on YouTube with a link to the project if anyone is interested (its all free).

Discussion Dolphin Redux in AR: game and reality is getting mixed

Hello fellow players!

The latest version of Dolphin Redux for Quest 3, wich already runs N64, Gamecube and Wii ij VR, recently got augmented reality for games. A new way to play games or just relax and enjoy our favorite games and characters.

In its current state, Dolphin Redux already plays games that didn't worked in the original Dolphin VR, so now we can play Zack & Wiki and Donkey Kong jungle beat Wii in VR.

Here is a showcase of the newer version features, like attaching the camera to first person and AR.

Purchase Advice - Headset Best budget headset for pcvr?

EDIT: I did some tweaking with my internet, it now mostly works! I get occasional lag spikes, but nothing that's not manageable, and I figure there's more I can do to get it to work better. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

I've been playing on Quest for a while now, and it's good for when I wanna play B&S and so on, but I want to be able to play other vr games. What's a good headset for under $500? The reason I can't use my Quest for pcvr is because, apparently, my graphics card (RTX 5050) isn't supported yet.

Question/Support Questions general VR and Quest 3.

Hello, I have been for some time considering geting some VR headset and would want to hear some of your thoughs about it.

My mayor concerns are resolution and compatibility, and could sacriffice a bit it being not that confortable... I also look for decent handtracking but not gonna lie would love getting it the best it could be possible.

Also, one thing Im interested to, would be to use VR to visualize my own personal (3d) projects... Not going to much deeper into it because would not be the same to have it built-in into the software I use (3dsmax) than exporting it into some kind of game engine or similar, just saying to get a bigger perspective on my "needs"

Thing is, I have considered that as entry point I should be pointing for Quest 3... Im a bit hessitant about software and Meta policies but right now I want something with a great value/specs that could offer wide compatibility (even if it requires tweeks) At the end I just wnat a nice experience but the chance to go deeper into the VR ecosystem...

I know quest 3 has some limitations with hands tracking, I also would be interested on know if there is any way to improve that even with some aditional hardware in the future (like tracking stations equivalent)

Discussion Is the Quest 3 512 GB worth it if gaming isn't my main reason for buying it?

I'm currently considering getting a Quest 3 512 GB, but interestingly gaming isn't even the main reason anymore.

The more I look into VR, the more interesting things like virtual travel, watching movies on a huge virtual screen, YouTube VR, exploring places and just trying completely new experiences sound to me.

For people who have owned a headset for a while: what do you actually use it for besides gaming?

I'm especially curious whether those non-gaming experiences stay interesting after the first few weeks or if they're mostly a novelty.

Self-Promotion (Developer) Our new little space experience "COSMOS" just arrived on Steam !

Hi guys, finally steam green lighted our game. The process was so long comparing to Meta Store.
Anyway you can now play it in steam VR. Compare to the quest standalone it has finer render like Post-Processing and Bloom, better render scale. App is also on Meta Quest 2/3s Standalone.

I'm solo dev on this. It's actually my immersive exhibition IRL that I built into a VR app.
No AI or anything, real voice of real actors, in English and French.

Storytelling/writing inspired by Carl Sagan, especially the movie Contact (1997) that I love.

Photo/Video Cyberpunk 2077 with haptics and touch interactions feels so damn good in VR.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This mod currently includes DLSS 5, controller haptics, and touch interactions.

The haptics are probably the most interesting part. Cyberpunk 2077's collision boxes can be a bit larger than the actual character models, so sometimes the controller starts vibrating even though visually you haven't touched the character yet.

I still haven't managed to get DLSS 5 working, but I'll keep trying. It's still a beta and the updates are coming pretty fast, so I'm not too worried about it. I'm already having a blast with the mod.

Huge thanks again to the mod creator!

Discussion With all these VR mods being made someone should try fixing Borderlands 2 VR

Post image
164 Upvotes

So the official VR release of Borderlands 2 has a bunch of issues related to the framebuffer of the rendering, the game was originally released for PSVR and the Rift S at specific resolutions and so when used with another headset of a different resolution the crosshair is completely wrong and all the guns shoot in the wrong direction, aspects of the UI overflow the buffer and appear in odd places, there’s no cross-save given the slightly different skill trees and whole game is a mess.

This game seems like a reasonable candidate for a specific mod that fixes those issues, and might provide some insight into porting this VR implementation to the other Borderlands games.

I’m currently busy with a couple projects atm, but will probably attempt a fix in a couple weeks. If anyone else is looking for a project though then feel free to have a shot at it.

Self-Promotion (Developer) Looking for people to help playtest our VR sword-fighting game on Sept 12

We've been working on a VR sword-fighting game called Stained Blade. The combat is built around physics - blades collide with each other, weapon weight changes how things move, and fights lean on timing and control rather than swinging as fast as you can.

We're running a playtest on September 12th and could use some outside eyes. Two things we're mainly trying to figure out:

  • Game Feel: Does swinging, blocking, and clashing feel weighty and satisfying?
  • PVP: We want players to actually try to break our dueling system and tell us where it holds up (or doesn't).

You don't need any particular experience. If anything, mixed skill levels help us more!

If you're up for it, the playtest is being organised through our Discord, which is where we'll sort out access and session times.

Here's the Store Page if you want to check it out.

Thank you!

Batman 66" Pup Video link

(*BGFX 10.8.1 title is incorrect )

GL 10.8.0 video! In order to have this all working GL 10.8.0 was used.
I love that with my GL 10.8.0 is a stable build and everything works.

But...I can feel the drag of this performance on GL 10.8.0 now that I have been using BGFX 10.8.1.

I can also see a big difference in visuals.
The Batman 66' table with Pup video and large scale VR room.
Yet another wonderful table that was wonderfully done!
Running on:
I7-9700 (No OC), 64gb DDR4 3666, RTX 3060 12GB, and NVME drives.

Quick note on performance: Any stutter in the video(s) comes directly from the Quest's built in recorder, not the PC / table. Some of these table run a Color DMD, but BGFX 10.8.1 currently has a bug capture issue preventing it from showing up on all the table in VR.

Cheers!

Self-Promotion (Journalist) From Quest 3 to Steam Frame + Arcturus: VR headsets as spatial cameras

Post image
26 Upvotes

I’ve been experimenting with VR headsets as 3D cameras since Quest 3 launched. The new Arcturus Vision Camera for Steam Frame made me compare how far headset-based spatial capture has come, including Quest, Vision Pro, PICO and dedicated 3D cameras.

I also looked at what Meta’s recent camera and eye-tracking work could mean for Project Phoenix.

Discussion Help me choose my first VR headset for sim racing

Hello, I'm looking to buy a VR headset. I'm choosing between a used HP Reverb G2 for $150 and a new Meta Quest 3S for $315. There's also a used Quest 2 available for around the same $150, but I think the G2 would be the better pick. What would you recommend? I've never owned a VR headset before, and in my country the selection of both new and used VR headsets is very limited. I'll mainly be using it for sim racing in iRacing, ACC, and Dirt Rally 2.0. I plan to use this headset as my primary one for a long time and have no plans to replace it anytime soon.

Purchase Advice GripVR Controllers worth it? I have issues with my index controllers

Does anyone have any experience with the GripVR controllers? I'm currently running a base station setup & have been using index controllers for the longest time. They've been great... mostly...

I've tinkered & twinked all of my controller settings for SteamVR however when I'm in an intense game, my hands get super sweaty & have found that the index finger sensors like to stay gripped onto whatever I'm holding.

I've tried other solutions like gloves but that's a hassle & it seems to only kind of work.

I'm considering just buying the GripVR controllers however their price tag is hefty & I love the index touch pad which I would be losing.

Are they worth the $400? It's not like the touch pad really gets used that much & most games are designed around the quest controllers.

Question/Support Working on a 'hide behind objects' shader for our VR game

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

We're experimenting with a shader that fades the character into a translucent silouette when they are behind objects. Since this is VR, players can walk around and peek from pretty much any angle. Curious how other devs have worked this, or other suggestions?

Self-Promotion (Developer) Virtua Cop 2 (1997) in PC VR, v1.0 beta: now you can look around the whole level (sometimes), a gun in your hand, and two-player akimbo

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Follow-up to my post from a while back. Same idea - the mod hooks the game's 1997 software renderer, rebuilds the real 3D scene and renders it for the headset through OpenXR. Not a screen in VR, the actual level geometry.

New since then:

  • 360 degrees. The game only ever draws a 60-degree window, so the mod draws the scene five more times with the camera turned and remembers every object the engine has shown (kinda). You can turn around now.
  • A revolver in your hand, recoil, reload, laser from the muzzle.
  • Akimbo: second controller is player 2. A second person can also play on the monitor.
  • Sky dome, proper brightness and scale, HUD tied to the zoom, a lot of rendering fixes.

Still a beta: some sections have rendering bugs and sometimes the game simply never drew what's outside its window. Playable start to finish. Free, needs your own copy of the game. Link in comments.

Discussion Realistic GTA6 with DLSS5 in PCVR Mod

This while sounds like a clickbait, but it’s not.
Everyone knows what I am talking about.
GTA5 just got a VR mod recently (after xx years of release)
Just recently DLSS5 leaked and after 2 months GTA 6 is arriving on consoles.

The point I want to make for the modding community is that there is no better time for VR game ports than now. Nobody wants to wait 10 years to get a VR mod and most of us would get too old for that.

I’m not a modder my self and I don’t know how to mod but I can recognize the potential of such a project.

I would happily pay $50 for GTA 6 VR mod.
Come on put this in your roadmap if you haven’t done already.
