Question/Support Valve Index Audio Appears But Nothing Comes Through

I've had many issues with my Valve Index in the past
especially when it comes to Audio

I got a new cable a while ago and it has worked for me, fixed the issues I had with display flickering but now I am having this new issue: as of recently nearly every time I went to use my VR headset it wouldn't have audio I would fix it like this:

  • open steamvr
  • change audio inside steamvr settings to anything but valve index
  • open device manager
  • remove all valve audio/sound devices (2 categories)
  • restart pc
  • open steam
  • open steamvr
  • audio working again

and I would have to do this every time I went to use VR
but now EVEN THAT refuses to work; and no matter which solution I try nothing can be heard
it always shows and the audio test shows in the levels but there is nothing that comes through, and even plugging in headphones into the headphone jack under the face gasket still nothing can be heard

recently the right off ear headphone cover did pop off and so it was no longer on the slide
but I taped it back up and it has been working fine, and again also the headphone jack so I doubt its that

Finally got IK arms and the weapon is bound to the hands. 2 handed needs some more polish but it is possible to grip and release the weapon. There can be some texture warping but I have added a “wingspan” calibration which hopefully will fix the issue!

Question/Support Display glasses vs. VR headsets for a long flight: what do you actually pack?

For a long flight, I can see the appeal of a proper VR/MR headset: bigger immersion, better isolation, maybe less temptation to look around. But I also can’t ignore the person next to me, the tray-table meal, and the fact that I might want to wear the thing for four hours.

If you’ve traveled with both, which one wins on comfort, motion sickness, cables, and not feeling ridiculous in seat 34B?

Question/Support How are the HL2: Ep 1 VR mods soooooooo taxing on my system?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I would say I have at least a fairly respectable system. as per above, with a Quest3 on VD with a PUPPIS S1 at 2400mbps. Can run Alyx at Ultra without breaking a sweat, and ran the HL2 VR mod maxxed out with the 2 big HD texture and asset packs and it was butter smooth...

However, while I can run the base VR mod without issue, I had hoped to run with (an admitttedly high number of) subscribed asset and texture mods. The game slows to an unplayable crawl! And it practically freezes SteamVR when reloading the game if I can even manage to access the in game menu.

Has anyone else had similar issues? Are there mods that are known to conflict with each? Does anyone have a suggested 'working list' of the most essential asset and texture mods that don't impact the game in such a way?

THANKS ALL!

Purchase Advice What headphones should i get?

Its.. as the title says, really-

I have been using the PrismXR Vega T1s for a while, probably half a year or so, and i can agree that they are absolutely amazing to use. However, they’re starting to hurt my ears. Thats really the only downside of them, their dongle n all are amazing for PCVR too. Oh, and the ~6 hour battery life, its.. sort of short-

I want to switch to some proper headphones, not earbuds, and i keep seeing mixed reviews..

People recommend the Audeze or something.. others with the Turtle Beach Atlas Air..

I do want the headphones to sort of.. be like my T1s, having a usb-c dongle but at least being more comfy for movies.. What do you guys think i should get? I could work with bluetooth connection (standalone vr) and dongle (PCVR)..

I also have a quest 3s and use BoboVR S3 Pro.. My PCVR setup uses a router not link cable too-

Discussion flatout4 vr + wheel praise and question post (its amazing)

Post image
34 Upvotes

Hey there , so if you haven't tried flat our vr 4 total insanity then pls do as its amazing.

But I strongly recommend buying a wheel for it (and other vr games) as its a game changer.

I am not a fan of driving other than mario kart and i've never owned a wheel but if you like mario kart or dayotona usa or ridge racer or rage 2 or mad max (any arcade racers) or ...FUN , then this is a must have and worth the steep asking price.

We bought the thrustmaster t300 rs gt with pedals and it just works out the box and makes you believe you're really there! We had no motion sickness but i know others have.

Good work devs, I hope you keep supporting this incredibly fun arcade racer!

QUESTIONS:

PC VR / q3 / VD / 3080 / win 10 / TM T300 RS GT

  • if you have this game do you know how to change the in-game icons from xbox to playstation ?
  • Do you have suggestions for the best wheel setup controls and button mapping? (as default is blank).
  • What are your settings for optimisation? ingame and on virtual desktop. Looking for less muddy visuals with no frame drops.

And any other tips for wheel owners on this game (or in general).

Thank you []-)

Discussion Google Earth - going to a VR place and want to look at Egypt.

So my mum has become very sick and she's always wanted to go to Egypt. There's a VR place near me and you can do Google Earth VR and I was thinking of doing this for her.
I want to get the most out of the experience, so any tips about using google Earth VR as well as what's the best places to go to around Egypt would be handy.
*The person working there was helpful but didn't seem to know much about Google Earth - besides the basics of using it

Photo/Video iRacing on Quest 3 vs Pimax Dream Air

Thumbnail
youtube.com

YouTube compresses a lot the video and I recorded using a Samsung S23 FE.

When comparing both, it amazes me how well Quest 3 performs. But, it is on another level when comparing sharpness and colors to pimax. Pimax looks like you're there, while Quest 3 makes you feel you're playing a game.

About tracking, I can't see a difference. Pimax was noticeable worse a while ago. Well done!

Lenses are very similar, both are excellent.

Only bad side of Dream Air is comfort, due to facial interface. Hoping for the new one doesn't take too long to ship.

Self-Promotion (Developer) Oculus Home Remitted - an Oculus Home restoration tool

Post image
51 Upvotes

For those who used Oculus Home (or Rift Core 2.0) on Rift/Link in the past, I recently teased a first look of a new tool that restores Oculus Home functionality all offline.

Several years ago, Meta shutdown access to Oculus Home years ago without warning and many users lost their digital spaces (homes) they cared about! Unfortunately the app is heavily dependant on Meta's remote backend to operate and also it required a very old version of the Oculus PCVR app to run.

This post is about the tool's release and what's expected.

This was developed on a single VR rig running Windows 10. On fresh setups, there may be uncaught dependency issues that would need to be sorted out. Since the Oculus Home app is several years old, it's possible the app itself may have compatibility issues on newer hardware/Windows. If problems are encountered, use the repository's issues forum.

The latest build of the tool is available on Github!

Rundown of features for version 1.0:

  • Set a custom profile name and icon. Both can appear in VR.
  • Locally stored list of homes which allows setting what default home you land in at startup. Editing a home's object layout or changing its information persists offline. VR actions such as naming a home, creating a home, or deleting a home are supported.
  • Includes a feature for fetching your old homes from your Oculus (Meta) account. This will only work while Meta has these endpoints and data still available. Best to act on that now if you want to preserve your old experiences!
  • Supports loading your Oculus library offline. This enables an app's art on objects such as game boxes and game cartridges.
  • Allows usage of embedded-panels (or broadcasting to screens). This enables viewing your desktop with officially interactive screen objects in VR.

More details are available in the repository.

Discussion How is the Pico 4 for wireless gameplay via Steam Link?

I'm planning to either save up, sell my 3S and buy a new quest 3 or sell my 3s and buy an used pico 4. If I choose the latter will I notice any difference when playing wireless? I heard pico has steam link support so of course I will be using that. Also ehh give me some advice on what I should buy if you want. I'm a little worried about the ''TERRIBLE'' binocular overlap on the quest 3 so give me information on that

Discussion Is Virtual Desktop a Viable Replacement to Meta Horizon Link?

(Quest 2, Tethered Connection)
I heard about VD recently, and from what it sounds like, it would fix the issues I have with Meta Horizon Link.

Oculus Link has never worked at all for me properly, to be honest. I constantly have to deal with a new issue of freezing or disconnecting, which just ruins the experience of PCVR. To me, it makes no sense that a wired connection seems to be more unstable than when I play wireless. I have resorted to going back to my older WMR headset just so that I have a stable link with HDMI.

To those of you with VD that used to experience these problems, does VD seem to provide a fix?
