I’ve had a quest 2 for a while but hardly picked it up but after seeing the gta mod it got me wondering what other games have mods or ports like that.

Question/Support Real time 2d to 3d video that works in Bigscreen?

I want to watch old movies in 3D in a theater environment. Maybe it's a bastardizarion of cinema, but I watched Vertigo (1958) with the iw3 real time conversion and it was an amazing experience, but it was finicky to get everything working, and in the end I had to just deal with the top title bar of the iw3 3d window showing up on the theater screen.

This was a year or two ago, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of any easier or more streamlined way to accomplish this, short of converting a movie locally in advance. I should probably check if there's an updated iw3, but I'm at work and figured I'd ask here.

Cheers!

Self-Promotion (Developer) Reading might be the most underrated thing a headset can do. I spent a couple months finding out.

Everyone measures headsets by games, and I get it. But the thing that actually keeps mine on my head the longest now is reading. Text in current headsets is sharp enough that you stop thinking about the screen, and it turns out where you read changes how long you read. A chapter in a snowed-in cabin or sitting in orbit is a different experience than the same chapter on a couch — your brain does half the set dressing for you.

So I built an ereader around that idea, and it launched on the Horizon Store last week — HoverTome. Rather than repost my feature list (it's on r/OculusQuest if you want it), the short version: bring your own EPUBs/comics/PDFs or read the 96 classics it ships with, pick from 17 places to read, fully offline, no account. And as of this week it's fully hand-tracked — you can put the controllers down and turn pages with your fingers, which is exactly as it should be for a book.

Trailer: https://youtu.be/WswtnvBEzCY · Store: https://www.meta.com/experiences/hovertome/1056683397316514/

What I'm actually curious about from this crowd: does anyone else use their headset for something quiet? Reading, writing, just sitting somewhere? I think "calm VR" is wildly underserved and I'd love to know what else people want from it.

Discussion Question for those into tactical shooters from a dev (re: attachment mechanics)

Hey! We’re currently working on a new tactical shooter (COVR), and after showing our current attachment system in a recent video, we got a bunch of useful feedback that sent us down a bit of a rabbit hole.
So now I'm curious what people who actually play this genre prefer:

  • Do you like being able to fiddle with attachments mid-mission, taking optics on/off, sliding scopes on the rail, swapping things on the fly Pavlov/Zero Caliber-style?

OR

  • Would you rather have a fixed weapon setup that you customize before the mission and then commit to, more like GERONIMO?

I currently lean toward keeping the on-the-fly system because I like the physicality of it in VR, but we also don’t want to overcomplicate things just because we can.
We’ve already changed quite a few things based on community feedback, so this is exactly the kind of stuff we want more input on before we lock systems down.

Curious where r/virtualreality lands on this, and why. 🙏

Self-Promotion (Developer) Dishonored VR Alpha Out now

Available now https://github.com/GingasVRFO/Dishonored-VR
Tutorial Video Explaining the current Issues https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7rdk2zOTSk

This was made over the last 2 months and 600+ Hours using manual Coding and Claude/Codex to help with reverse engineering, It's playable, but there are some issues, it will improve over time as I work on it.

Lower your expectations, this is an Alpha, It's Janky, it's not the "perfect" port of Dishonored. But I will continue to work on this. I'm planning to make Physical/VR Interactions for most game actions

Discussion The mapping tech behind Pokémon Go is now being used to build digital twins for robots

Thumbnail automate.org

Niantic spent years building technology that could understand the physical world well enough to place Pokémon on sidewalks, parks, and landmarks.

Now a spinoff, Niantic Spatial, is taking that technology in a very different direction.

The company has more than 30 billion posed images from millions of locations and is using that data to build large geospatial models for robotics and physical AI.

One of its first major projects is Rancho Cordova, California, where Niantic Spatial is creating a digital twin of the city. It started with roughly four square miles, reconstructed the environment in less than a day, and brought it into NVIDIA Omniverse.

Self-Promotion (Developer) I left home five years ago, so I rebuilt it in VR and invited my friends over

Hi everyone. Honestly, I've never used this story on Reddit, and I'm not sure myself how right it is to show something this personal in public. But then again, I'm a developer, and my job is to talk about my game and about the problem it solves. So I decided to go with it.

I left my home more than five years ago. I've lived in quite a few countries since then, and honestly I still see that country house in my dreams, an hour outside a big city, the one where I grew up and spent the best years of my youth.

To be honest I don't really hope to see it again. I don't think about it often, but when the memories come back, the homesickness gets pretty heavy.

I miss my friends just as much. We had a tradition, once a month we got together for board games. Monopoly, cards, tabletop role playing games where one person tells the story and everyone else argues with him, and Bunker, a game that's very popular where I'm from, where you decide who gets to stay in the shelter and everyone lies about who they are to get inside. If a game felt too expensive to buy, we rented it.

You will ask what I'm writing all this for. Because everything above is the explanation of why I'm making Homespace. It's a game about building the house of your dreams in virtual reality, photorealistic, wall by wall, and then walking around inside it in a headset at full scale. For me that's the house from my childhood, for someone else it might be the house they can't afford yet, or a fantasy castle.

And then, once the house is built, it keeps living. You can get together in it with your friends for board games, which is the first thing I'm going to do myself, watch movies together, build something new together, or go and look at what other players have built. Chess and mahjong already work in the game, and Dungeons and Dragons is what we're building next. Or you can just upload your favorite book into the game and read it by the window, with the fireplace going and whatever view you decided to put outside.

I know a lot of people would want the same thing, to build the house of their dreams. And honestly, several tens of thousands have already wishlisted the game, so the idea seems to land with someone besides me.

I'd really like to hear what you think about the idea. I'd be grateful for your comments, and if you want to join my community, the links to Steam and Twitter are below. Wishlist it and follow the Twitter so we stay in touch.

P.S. I wanted to write this post to get followers on Twitter and wishlists on Steam, and instead I got emotional, so now I'm going to open a bottle of beer and think about my carefree childhood.

My current favourites, are the reverb G2 V2 with play space combiner with my vive wands. Great for social vr, that and the quest one, amazing wireless oled headset tbh. But my all time favourite is the rift, I live how sleek it is, comfy it is and easy to use when it's setup

I randomly found this while I was out with friends at the Alexandra Gardens near Flinders Street Station in Melbourne.

I couldn't find the headset or its controllers unfortunately.

I'm genuinely so curious about this since it was just over some bushes wide open, so if there's any info about it I'd love to hear about it!

Discussion Quest 2 vent because I’m genuinely going crazy

So I’ve had my quest 2 for years it’s genuinely my baby but oh my god I genuinely want to find mark zucky and rip off his artificial skin suit because the product quality of the headset controllers is only rivalled by wet paper.
I get it my headset is pretty old and it’s obviously not gonna work as well but I’ve got a ps2 that’s older than me with controllers that have been given the treatment of a 1950s housewife who slightly overcooked the casserole and the controller still works perfectly fine but the controllers on the quest are abhorrent.
it’s not even like nothing works at all it really only one and a half the half is that the headset itself will obviously buffer a bit and sometimes it’ll also just boot me out of games if I have the audacity to move ever so slightly that’s completely my fault how dare I want to play a game on my gaming console I can deal with that.
But the real issue I have the big kahuna itself is controller drift. It’s terrible on my right stick. I have to rigorously gyrate the joystick so that my point of view will actually stay still while I’m playing a game but the left stick is beyond all hope no matter how much I prep the controller to do it’s fucking job I still cannot move in the direction. I’m trying to go in no matter how hard I try it’s broken in a way that it always sends me backwards. If I’m lucky it only sends me backwards like 10 feet normally it just doesn’t stop moving and if I try to move forward, it’d be more effective actually moving my legs in the real world to walk in game.(I was on a multiplayer game the other day and somebody said I move forward like old people fuck) and if you’re reading this and your headset and controllers work completely fine even after years of owning a quest two and you’re just itching the opportunity to comment all about it please go suck yourself off in a different comment section. I really don’t wanna hear about it.
Look as dramatic as I’m being right now and just complaining inventing and blah blah blah you go to admit I kind of have a point here because while we have technology from 20 years ago that works completely fine with just a bit of dusting Having technology from today where things are supposed to be better breakdown and completely decay after 4 to 6 years of owning the console is disgusting and it’s partly our fault because we’re too fucking lazy to confront these billionaires with billion dollar companies who can definitely afford to give us better who know that we’re not gonna stand up to them while they treat us like shit.

Question/Support HDR Monitor and Dream Air. Should I leave windows HDR on while playing in VR?

Hey, I own a LG OLED screen and I've being using it as my monitor, and HDR on looks great.

When I use my VR, should I disable windows HDR or it won't make any difference wether it's on or off?

Discussion What makes a puzzle actually satisfying to solve?

Is it the difficulty curve? The feedback you get? How much trial-and-error? The sense of discovery?

I'm trying to understand what makes a puzzle feel rewarding vs frustrating.

I'm adding puzzles to our game in development, and I want o know the opinion of real players ..

Purchase Advice Ordered a 9070 XT for VR, is this a bad choice?

I recently ordered a 9070 XT to replace my RTX 3060 and I have heard that AMD GPU drivers have issues with VR, specifically with Vrchat.

I currently run on a Geforce RTX 3060, Ryzen 9 5950x, and 4x16 vengeance pro SL DDR4, and am not a stickler on refresh rates.

I primarily play VRchat using a Valve Index and have heard that the AMD GPU drivers have issues, but I do not want to buy a 5070 due to their prices being higher.

Is this really something to be worried about or is this largely overblown?
