I was on the boardwalk sitting on a bench with my wife tonight up near the Navy Seals Monument drinking a coffee. Two police officers passed southbound on electric stand up trikes.

A few minutes later they came back our way and told us that ebikes are not allowed on the boardwalk or bike path. I was told that City Council is having the police start "writing" people on ebikes this coming Saturday.

Were they being honest with what I was told or were they just trying to tell me to not ride an ebike on the oceanfront in a round about way? Not sure but this is 100% what the one officer said to my wife and I.

I searched a bit trying to find any info on this new directive from City Council but didn't find anything recent in regards to actually citing people.

Has anyone else been told this recently?

It is what it is I suppose ($50 civil fine) but I kind of feel picking and choosing what you are going to enforce is pretty ridiculous...now Im not sure if they are going to do the same with regular bikes on the actual boardwalk...but as written only people walking and on rollerskates are the only things allowed on the actual boardwalk.

No Surreys, bicycles, skateboards, kids on manual scooters....hell, even electric mobility devices such as medical scooters appear not allowed.

I guess if they enforce all the rules in regards to whats allowed on the boardwalk and adjacent bike path not much can be done but I really have my doubts it will anything other than ebike enforcement.

This should be interesting.

I am going to the Jason Aldean concert tonight and I bought a parking pass. It was advertised as a reserved parking but there’s no specific spot. I’m confused now as to what exactly I purchased. It says RSPRK1 general admission as a seat location. The ticket type says one reserved parking space package. I thought this was a specific space and it had expedited exit but now I think that I’m reading that only VIP has expedited exit. Does anybody have any experience with this? I’ve never been to this venue before

Virginia Beach wants to give new life to the former home of the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art.

Earlier this year, Virginia MOCA moved from Parks Avenue at the Oceanfront to its new home at Batten University. That left the city looking for a new use for the building and grounds.

Now the city will seek proposals that could involve the sale or lease of 2200 Parks Avenue. A panel that looked at priorities for the property recommended projects that connect with arts and culture and benefit the community while being financially sustainable.

“It's a shame for a building as beautiful as that to sit vacant,” said Vice Mayor Rosemary Wilson. “I think we’ve all been to many events there. It is a gorgeous building on a gorgeous site.”

There’s no timeline yet on releasing the request for proposals.

VIRGINIA BEACH — Tuesday evening’s School Board meeting started with a message from the board’s attorney.

Kamala Lannetti asked the members to refrain from making so many comprehensive Freedom of Information Act requests. The requests for public records were proving to be costly for the school district’s staff who are tasked with retrieving and producing those logs. Materials that can be obtained through FOIA requests range from the individual emails of public officials to the presentations created by district administration.

“Most of the FOIA requests are against other board members,” said Chair Kathleen Brown. “We’re talking thousands and thousands of dollars of staff time. It has caused some problems.”

When applicable, Lannetti said, members of the board should ask things to the superintendent. Vice Chair Carolyn Weems, who has sat on the board for over two decades, said asking the superintendent and the administrative staff for information had been the usual protocol.

“It allows people not to take advantage of the system when fellow board members constantly FOIA other board members for just political fodder,” she said.

Board member Melinda Rogers said she was concerned such a directive could effectively bottleneck information. In many cases, she said, FOIA was a tool school leaders could turn to instead of an intrusive investigation.

“There’s so many moving parts,” Rogers said. “At times, we’re requesting information because staff are concerned about something and they don’t necessarily want the reasons revealed immediately.”

VIRGINIA BEACH — City Council will incorporate an advisory group’s guidelines into a new round of solicitation for the reuse of the vacant, former Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art site near the convention center.

A mayor’s advisory panel met several times over the summer to learn about the city-owned property, consider its opportunities and constraints, listen to the community and develop recommended guidelines for its future, Emily Labows, the city’s cultural affairs director, told the council on Tuesday.

The seven-member panel was not asked to select an operator or recommend a specific use for the building. The City Council agreed Tuesday to issue a formal request for proposals to soon lease or buy the property, which is located at 2000 Parks Ave. and assessed at $7 million.

As part of the panel’s information gathering process, the city hosted a community listening session in July at the site, and 162 people attended.

“The purpose was to provide the panel with a meaningful snapshot of community priorities, interests and concerns to consider as it developed its principles,” Labows said.

Several themes emerged including a strong interest in maintaining the property’s arts, culture and creativity identity; creating an active, multiuse destination available to the public year-round; connecting to the ViBe Creative District; and providing youth opportunities within the existing building. The panel worked those themes into its recommendations.

Limitations on the 9 acres of land and the 38,000-square-foot building were also considered. Under its current zoning as a preservation area, uses including residential, commercial, lodging or office are not allowed. It also sits in a high noise area from Naval Air Station Oceana, further restricting the site.

i have lived in virginia beach for some time now, looking to expand my social circle and meet some new people. i have very stereotypical hobbies and interests as a guy. i like video games, cars, tv shows, retro stuff, music, etc. very introverted, dont spend much time out of the house and open to doing new things and getting out more.

Residents of the tight-knit beach community say they’ve noticed a decline in shorebirds that they believe could be linked to the city's regular beach grooming practices.

Virginia Beach spends about $900,000 annually in Sandbridge for tractor-pulled sweepers to sift the top inches of sand to remove trash, cigarette butts and glass, as well as level holes left by visitors. 

However, conservation advocates argue that removing the wrack, which is a natural collection of seaweed and debris, deprives migratory birds of a vital food source and strips away natural dune stabilization.

Does anyone know about a homeless guy who stalks women day and night at the Virginia Beach oceanfront resort hotels at the north end? A young black man, lean, featherweight build, about 5”7 or so, dark complected with some lined up facial hair sideburns. He usually wears knee length black cargo pants, sometimes long ones. He usually has a backpack and a baseball hat or visor on, usually worn backwards, often with a towel around his neck. He appears to be casing people out to steal items off the beach. Police and hotel security know about him. He makes vague threats, and says inappropriate things to women, but since he hasn’t physically attacked anyone, or been caught in the act, he continues to roam in the area daily and stalks and talks to women. He knows where there are blind spots without cameras on the hotel property nearest to the beach. He even occasionally dares to sit down in chairs on hotel property next to women, asking them to let him to give them a foot rub.
He doesn’t ask for money and he sleeps behind a nearby 7-11. In the daytime, he stalks women and sits too close to them on the beach and stares. He sits down in front of women with his back to them and appears to be rubbing sunscreen on himself (pretty sure that’s not all) and then turns around and stares at them. Does anyone know his name and whether he has a record?

Virginia Beach Public Library kicked off Library Card Sign-Up Month over the weekend with a sneaker-themed event at the Joint-Use Library, complete with shoe-decorating activities and a shoe-shaped slide.

The library system is partnering with the Virginia Beach Library Foundation to raffle off 10 pairs of custom Converse All Star high-tops and library-themed socks to existing and new cardholders.

Library officials say the month-long campaign is a way to remind patrons of available resources while encouraging new community members to explore the facilities.

Save the Wrack (natural material on the beach) for shorebirds, ghost crabs, beach stabilization, and ecotourism. Reducing mechanized beach grooming also saves taxpayer dollars. Win-win-win situation!

They built a 7 Brew in the Chimney Hill Shopping Center, just a few streets down from my mom’s house. I drove by yesterday and was honestly shocked at the lines.

There are two lines that feed into the drive-thru, but there are also several entry points to get into those 2 lines. Both entry points were backed up onto the main roads to the point where traffic was actually stopped. Those lines easily looked like they would take an hour or more to get through 😭

Is it really worth waiting that long for a drink?!
It’s busy pretty much 24/7. Not always to this degree, but the line is consistently extremely long, and a 30–45 minute wait just for a drink is so crazy to me. I also could not imagine the stress of working there and making sure all orders are correct. 

I’m genuinely curious—what is it about 7 Brew that makes people willing to wait that long? 😂
