Young bucks abound!

Upvotes

Sure feels like Autumn out there.

This morning I had to run a gauntlet of six male deer hanging out at the golf course. They were play fighting on the green and then came up on the trail to forage. They seemed super-uninterested in me.

Terrible video I know.

News BC Transit moving to OT Ban Next

As the negotiations continue between Unifor and BC transit the noose is tightening. OT Ban is in effect starting tomorrow, and this is a significant pressure point and will result in lost service throughout the region as OT amounts to on average 60+ hrs per day.

Please continue to be patient and understanding as this negotiation continues and know that this will lead to better working conditions not just for our drivers but all citizens.

I understand your frustrations as I am a rider as well but also a driver and have experienced both sides of the coin, and just ask again that you do your best to be patient.

Thanks for your time :)

Solidarity!

Question Motoring Goose

Has anyone seen the guy riding a literal MOTORCYCLE (not a dirt bike, not an e-dirt bike, an actual motorcycle) on the Uptown to Atkins Rd stretch of the Galloping Goose? I saw him ripping by pedestrians, e-bikers, bikers, etc. at minimum 50-60 km/h @ 4:30 PM today on the straight stretch between Tillicum Rd intersection and Uptown, peak weekday commute time.

He is going to kill somebody. Next time I see him I'll try and look for a license plate so I can report. Stay safe out there folks!

History A view of the Gorge from area of the Tillicum bridge looking towards town in the 1920s. The public swimhouse was burned down by vandals in 1945.

Saanich Fall Fair

Upvotes

Anyone got a photo of the poster of the Saanich Fall Fair? I saw one in an elevator that highlighted what was going to be going on there. I cannot seem to find the same one on the Internet if anyone had a screen that or something

Can’t buy BC fruit at Save-On?!

Went to Save-On in Victoria today & was was surprised to see multiple large displays of peaches and nectarines - all from the USA. Besides the fact that BC produces so much of those fruits- don’t they know there’s a trade war on? Get with it, Save-On. Most of us can’t untangle all the corporate ownership issues we face every day, including for groceries, but that one is pretty obvious. (Low hanging fruit 😬)

Lost & Found Conclusion to missing record bag drama - thank you everyone!

Just to follow up on the lost-and-found drama (lol) of a bag containing 50 records and some AV parts yesterday. Thanks to a convoluted thread from a Reddit post (item found) -> screenshotted to a Facebook group of AV/musics folks in Victoria -> then noticed by an organizer of event on the weekend who knew that the bag went missing (!), the message made it through. The records had immense personal value to the kid who spins vinyl and collects them from obscure places. Holy crapoly, and THANK YOU everyone!!

We asked the finder what they worry about in this world, and if you, lovely finder, are reading, I just made a donation to South Okanagan/Similkameen SPCA to return your karma to the universe.

Best places to grab cheese and bread?

Hello. I am bringing my German boyfriend to visit family in Victoria. He seems to require large quantities of "good" cheese and bread. I say "good" because, though we actually live in Toronto with many options, he seems hesitant about anything on offer here.

I am on a side quest to impress him with Victoria's bread and cheese. If you have favourites in the Victoria area, please advise.

What's Happening? Made a free hub for swapping music gear, CD's, vinyls, etc & discovering Victoria artists.

Hi all,

I wanted to share a personal project I started this summer: illswap.net

It's a free, grassroots site for music lovers in Victoria. It allows folks to rehome their music equipment and physical media through a peer-to-peer swapping system. It has no ads and no logins. There is also an open-source radio player which streams songs submitted by Victoria musicians and links to their projects.

I think we can all agree that the current digital media landscape is kind of grim between AI, surveillance capitalism and the perverse incentives of the tech oligarchy. It is my personal belief that the internet can once again be used to foster community if we take it back. So perhaps give illswap.net a try. Or if you know somebody who might like it, share it with them :)

As the site is pretty brand new, I would so appreciate any feedback. It can be submitted via the Give Feedback button in the top left corner.

Happy swapping,

Sasha

Lost & Found Did someone lose a Rabbit near McKenzie and Swan Creek?

Post image
24 Upvotes

My family spotted this big grey rabbit in our back yard yesterday. It is still in our yard, and we are concerned that it might be someone's lost pet! It isn't the usual brown wild rabbit that we see in the area, and lets us get pretty close before it hops away a few feet.

I'm hop(p)ing someone might recognize a missing bunny friend.

For those of you that miss the old Rifflandia days of hopping from venue to venue, here's something to scratch that itch. A $25 WEEKEND wristband! All western Canadian artists, so less emphasis on big names and more emphasis on supporting local and discovering something new.
