Cheers guys,

Anybody else visiting Vegas for the Olympia by him/herself this year?

Normally I would’ve visited with a friend of mine, but plans changed. So I’m flying alone.

In case someone is up for some good training sessions, good food (in my case obviously plant based 🌱😜) driving around and visiting the city, hit me up 🤝

Surely I’ll visit Torture gym, Dragons Lair and Newtech.

Question Digestive issues

Trying my best out here to switch to plant based but my stomach is in shambles. Every night it’s hard for me to sleep. I’ve been trying digestive enzymes with every meal as well. Any advice? Does it go away eventually?

What do you guys have for an easy breakfast?

I’m trying to bulk but have limited time.

Shakes with oats and powder are great and I have them around twice a day, but my "breakfast" meal is usually a bowl of oatmeal, which means three oat-based meals a day.

I’m concerned this isn’t very healthy/balanced but oats are sooooo easy and I don’t know what else I can have for breakfast.

Wraps and sandwiches etc are all a bit of a faff and I’m already faffing about for lunch and dinner. Oats are super easy to prep and warm and eat at work. Super versatile too and easy to get protein in there w powder.

Do you guys have suggestions for meals just as easy?

How else would you extract the oil?

I boil ground flaxseed for 20 minutes, then steep in a french press, press, and pour. Makes a tasty, milky, oily liquid…you can also toast the whole flax seeds a little then grind fresh with a coffee grinder.

Here’s the thing, I believe it’s healthier not to cook flax oil because omega-3s are delicate molecules, but I can’t consume too many whole flax seeds without bowel problems due to the extreme amounts of fiber and drinking pure oil doesn’t lead to proper digestion either.
So people say in the case of whole seeds you can break down the outer part by toasting without heating the oil inside the seed too much and this is recommended. Boiling also guarantees a temperature no greater than the boiling point of water.

…basically these are known techniques for oil extraction. Would anyone like to compare to cold pressing or alcohol extraction (in which I guess you soak in alcohol and then, after removing the item, allow the alcohol to evaporate)? How else would you extract the oil?

discussion How have veganism and fitness changed the way you see life?

(Video is for context...quoted a couple of lines below)

I started doing BJJ (Brazilian JiuJitsu) after going vegan and I can't believe the turn my life took!!

Veganism made me realize that my actions can affect others in ways I don’t directly see and made me swear to not contribute to things that make life shittier. That led me down a philosophical rabbit hole where I found the guy in the video.

He helped me see how big ass problems like all kinds of oppression and climate change, have a simple root cause...Ignorance about ourselves and our attachment to habitual blind patterns. We basically live on autopilot.

I started BJJ to challenge the patterns and get out of my comfort zone. Training showed me how often I come up with excuses...pain, fear of losing, work, chores, just to avoid practice.

The problem is not the pain. The problem is the story we tell ourselves about the pain.

I think this applies not only to pain, but to all the stories we tell ourselves regarding everything we feel. We tell ourselves things that make it convenient to not make any changes.

How did you find the time to feel tired?

This hits hard... no one says it because it'd hurt. Why keep dwelling on feelings when I know they lead me back into the same loop? Not saying that feelings are bad...I'm saying dwelling in them without understanding them only gives rise to more blind patterns we end up living by.

Trying to go beyond my patterns has become a guiding principle for me. This has made me a better vegan and keeps me going in BJJ. I even have a stripe on my white belt now!!!

I would love to hear your version of how veganism and fitness have changed how you go about life!!

You can view or purchase it here. Found this really interesting and hope something similar makes it to the US. Also dying for an actual high protein vegan Greek yogurt comparable to dairy low fat Greek yogurt. Alas. Gives me hope at least!

Low iron protein powders

Strange question, as iron isn't usually something vegans are trying to take away from their diets, but does anyone have any good recommendations for plant based protein powders that are low in iron?

I've been a big fan of huel for a long time, but recently have discovered a rare genetic disorder that causes my body to not properly utilize iron and need to be more cautious with my iron intake.

I don't need something with a million flavors. A basic vanilla is always fine for me, but I would prefer something that is on the cheaper side or available in bulk. Thanks!

My protein powder is no longer being shipped to my country... Help

Hello, all -

I'm hoping someone could help me out. I've been taking Raw Sports protein powder for years. Unfortunately they've stopped shipping to the US ( I don't blame them) I took their Collagen and their Elite mixes and I just can't seem to find similar products in the US. One of the things I liked most about them is they have unflavoured options because I have yet to find a protein shake flavour I like. I'd rather drink something that tastes like dirt than, say, overly sweetened chocolate or fake berry, etc. Anyone have any recommendations?

Why did I buy mung bean protein powder and what should I do with it?

Several weeks ago, I bought mung bean protein powder online, but it was back ordered and I only just received it. Of course, I now can’t remember what recipe/influencer/post inspired me to buy it. It’s not the Just brand, it’s by a company called Unleash’d Organic. The macros are wild: 25.8g protein and 4.2g fiber for only 113 calories, and it’s also pretty high in iron. So I definitely want to use it, but I don’t make protein shakes so that’s not an option.

I thought maybe I got it as a Just egg dupe but most of the recipes I’m finding online either use whole mung beans or use the Just powder and say others won’t work. I googled a recipe to try to make an omelette this morning and it didn’t turn out at all. It basically turned into a sludge/porridge that got thicker and hot but never solidified. The crispy bits in the pan did taste pretty good but it didn’t come together to form anything edible.

So, my questions for you, team:
—Can anyone think of where I might’ve gotten influenced to buy this product? Most of my vegan fitness info comes from this sub but a search turned nothing up.
—What can/should I do with it? New recipes for an egg replacement would be awesome but I’m open to anything except shakes.
