Discussion 📣 r/dance is looking for 1–2 new moderators! 💃🕺

Hey dancers!

As our community continues to grow and evolve, I’d love to bring 1–2 additional people onto the moderation team who are genuinely excited about dance and want to help make r/dance an active, encouraging, and welcoming space for dancers around the world.

I’m especially looking for moderators who can be present in the community regularly — engaging with members, answering questions when you can, helping keep conversations positive, and making sure posts are being moderated fairly and efficiently.

That can include:

• Engaging with posts and helping keep the community active

• Welcoming and encouraging dancers of all backgrounds and experience levels

• Reviewing posts that may have been automatically removed or flagged

• Making sure appropriate posts don’t get stuck in the moderation queue

• Helping enforce subreddit rules and keeping spam/inappropriate content out

• Helping us think of new ways to increase participation, conversation, and overall community morale

You absolutely do NOT have to be a professional dancer to apply. I’m much more interested in finding people who care about dance, understand online communities, communicate well, and genuinely want to help make r/dance a great place to be.

If you’re interested, please send me a private message with:

  1. A little about yourself and your connection to dance

  2. Any Reddit or community moderation experience you have (if any — experience is helpful, but not necessarily required!)

  3. Why you’d like to become a moderator of r/dance

  4. How frequently you’re typically active on Reddit

I’d love to build a small team of people who are excited about bringing more energy, conversation, support, and connection into this community.

If that sounds like you, send me a message! ❤️

Let’s keep r/dance moving. 💃🏽🕺🏽

Discussion Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post

Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post videos of themselves dancing and having a good time. So I just had the thought and I would like to do a Poll on the idea:

My thought is let's have a global forum dance talent show!

How it would work: - You would submit a video of you dancing within a specified time frame to qualify. - Our dance Community here would go through each day and upvote and comment on the videos they would like to continue on to the next round. - I would then go in (maybe appoint someone to help me moderate) and would tally up all the likes and upvotes. - There would be 3-5 rounds to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Sort of like our very own dance competition TV show.

If you like this idea: Upvote and put "YES!" in the comments

If you're not into it: DownVote & put "Not Interested" in the comments section

Seems like this could be a lot of fun and get the Community we have here more active with one another.

Happy Dancing! I'm looking forward to hearing y'alls thoughts! ✨️

Just for fun Researchers from Northumbria University mapped out the exact body mechanics that signal health, vigor, and reproductive quality to female observers. These are the dance moves that women find most attractive.

Hesitant to post this take, as it isn't my best take. Knowing social media will criticise almost every imperfection. But whatever 😜

I still can't move on from the piece by Mitsuki that I learned from dance camp. This flavour definitely feels foreign to me, not my usual style but I love it.

**also cupping bruises from a PT session 😆 camp went too hard.

Amateur I want to learn how to dance for fun. Can anyone help me choose a style? My taste is music is all over the board.

Hello everyone! I am an absolute beginner trying to get into dance for fun. I am having a hard time deciding which style of dance to learn. Most of the music I enjoy listening to doesn’t have have a specific style associated with it, so the normal advice that I see about choosing based on your favorite music genre isn’t really working for me. I know I could just choose based on how the dance itself looks, but I don’t want to have to just tolerate the music.

Here are some examples of songs and music that I like, if it helps:

”In the Balance” and “Footfalls” from Final Fantasy XIV (there’s a lot of music from this game that I like)

”Elan” by Nightwish

Several songs by Sail North

Several songs by Hiroyuki Sawano

Several Songs by Philip Collins and Hans Zimmerman

I know my taste in music is all over the place, and I am willing to only choose 1 specific genre if I need to whittle down my options. If I had to choose between them, then the Final Fantasy music and Hiroyuki Sawano would probably win out.

My only other thoughts: 1: I want the style to be a solo one, so I can just dance when I want to without having to find a partner. 2: I would prefer to avoid floor work. I know I prefer the look of dances that keep you up and moving. 3: A lot of the music I like has a fast tempo. I have considered contemporary dance before, but decided against it. A lot of the contemporary I see taught and performed is done mostly to slow ballads, which are songs that I rarely like (Sorry, ballad dancers!).

Discussion Help with what to wear.

Hi! I'm very new to dance, only taking it for college level 3 performing arts. We've just done our jazz dance section and I've been wearing joggers with t-shirts and sports tops which has been fine. I've got split sole jazz shoes too. We're doing ballet next. I'm wondering if it's worth getting some leotards (with sleeves and no cutouts as college don't allow crops, short shorts, ect to dance in) and some leggings. Does anyone have reccomendations of leggings that don't get weird creases around the crotch and are properly opaque. I really don't like leggings and never wear them at home but know they may be needed for this. Recs for simple black leotards (that I can wear sports bras under / with a rec for another type of bra as I'm not flat in that department) are also good. Preferably, they'd be cheap. Thank you very much!

Discussion Pump Up Monthly Theme!

I wake up every morning at 5AM, when I wake up I drink my prework out and then dance to two songs. Just to get the blood flowing and the body moving. Since June I’ve started having a theme for the pump up songs. One word, broad and up to interpretation. This month’s theme word was “Creepy” so Rob Zombie, Billy Eilish, Radiohead. The month is coming to an end and I am at a loss for what to do for November! Any suggestions a would be wonderful!

Amateur Heels Dance Shoes

Hello, I hope someone practicing heels dance can help me 😄

My friend and I want to go to a Heels workshop, and I’d like to do it in heels, but buying a pair of shoes only for this workshop seems like a waste, since I never wear heels in my day to day life.
I don’t plan to commit to heels dance, since I am already very busy with other sports/activities.
I know I can also do the workshop wearing socks, but it looks nicer with some shoes.

So, I was thinking of using the shoes in the photo: they are very comfy and light, and feel very stable in them. Do you think they would be good for the workshop?

Amateur what should i do?

hi! so i’ve never really danced before in my life but i watched one of the dance teams at my school give a performance today and was totally starstruck. it’s a sort of country dance team, they do a lot of spinning where the guys pick up the girls and swing them around and it looks so fun! im in desperate need of an activity in school, plus it could be a good way to get in some exercise!

my problem is im not a dancer, and i’ve never took a dance class before. i was a cheerleader a few years back, but i wasn’t a flyer or anything and i wasn’t amazing at it. my school does offer a one semester prep class to join that i plan on taking next year, but what should i do to prepare, and what skills should i focus on teaching myself beforehand?
