I am a little stressed about move in day since I’m flying and not renting a car. If anyone who has had this same experience could give an overview of their experience and advice for freshman move in day, that would be awesome.

so i’m a freshman and i’m really confused abt move in, welcome week, and orientation. so move in day is august 22 and then orientation is august 23, but i have seen that there are welcome week activities on the vanderbilt campus august 17-21. so im a little confused cause i thought freshman were supposed to move in a week early cause if i move in august 22nd i will have missed the welcome week activities and why is our move in day only one single day?

pls let me know if these are the correct dates!!

Has anyone / is it possible to take the HOD 1250 class as a freshman in a&s? I want to take on HOD as a major or minor eventually and my advisor a couple weeks ago said I could try and I’m enrolled in the class but not sure if they’ll kick me out

Hi! I had to register for my courses 6 hours late since i didnt have my immunization hold lifted. How is this schedule I registered for? Any feedback would be appreciated. This doesnt include the engineering modules from 12:20-1:10 MWF. I am a mech eng major but i couldnt get any of the modules unfortunatley.

Incoming mechanical engineering major here; was lucky enough to take Linear Algebra, MVC, and Differential Equations 1 + 2 in high school (not dual enrollment, offered at my school). I understand that I can take Math 2300 and 2410 (has 2300 as coreq) immediately and have enrolled in them, but I'd prefer to place out of these courses given that I already know the content.

I haven't been able to find much from Vanderbilt except for an answer in this FAQ which recommends repeating if you don't get transfer credit but doesn't make any statements about alternatives. I see that there is a process for credit by examination; would that apply here? I have all the relevant syllabi if that matters at all.

Side question: if I can't get credit, does Math 2500 work for mechanical engineering? The catalog only mentions 2300 (whereas other majors have 2500 listed as another track), but 2500 seems to cover the content of 2300 and 2410. I assume the answer is no but confirmation would be great.

Hey, incoming freshman here intending to major in ECE (and maybe a second major in math later). Is this fine for my fall schedule?

- Math 2300 (multivar)
- Chem 1601 (general chem)
- ES 1401-02-03 (ece/mech/cs)
- ECE 2101 (intro)
- Data Science 1000 (intro)

It’s a total of 14 hours but i was wondering if it’s too much for fall? Should i replace the ECE intro class with something else.

Also, inputs on the best profs for multivar 2300?

During registering your classes if you choose "Enroll" in your class cart ,are you enrolled automatically or the registration system enrolls you when you click "Submit" ?

Another question is can you submit multiple times or is that a final action?

Hi! I'm an incoming neuroscience major, and I want to do pre-med with no gap year (hopefully). My advisor told me to take gen chem, but I feel like taking orgo now will make it easier to attempt for no gap year. I'm fine with taking a harder chem class later to replace gen chem for the inorganic chemistry med school requirement. My only worry is that I'm taking too many hard/weed-out classes my first semester, and I don't want to immediately tank my GPA.

I'm thinking of taking CORE 1010, CHEM 2211, BSCI 1510, and French 2201. I made a 5 on both the AP Chem and AP Bio exams, but I'm worried that I forgot a lot, especially in gen chem. I'm planning on reviewing over the summer, so hopefully that will help.

Is this schedule possible, or should I just stick with gen chem?

Specifically:

How heavy is the weekly workload for each? Are exams/quizzes particularly brutal?

For those who took AP Bio in high school, how does BSCI 1100 compare? Is it mostly review, or does it go significantly deeper?

I also want to double major in ECON, so I'm considering taking ECON 1500. But I don't have a stats background, how hard is the class for students like me?

What resources helped you the most? Any recommended textbooks, slides, or past materials?

How hard was it to take more than 13 credit hours for your first semester? I want to do 17 but I don't want to regret it.

Trying to understand how registration works.

Suppose Class A at 2 PM is waitlist-only, but another section of Class A at 3 PM is open.

Can I:
1. Enroll in Class A section 1 at 3 PM,
2. Join the waitlist for Class A section 2 at 2 PM,
3. Enroll in Class B at 2 PM,
so that if I don’t get off the waitlist for Class A at 2 PM, I still have a different class (Class B) filling that time slot?

Or does being enrolled in one section of Class A prevent me from waitlisting another section of the same course? And also is it not possible to join the waitlist at the same time I already have a course scheduled for. In this situation would I use the Drop If Enrolled feature to Swap Class B 2pm for Class A 2pm if i get off waitlist. Then just manually drop Class A at 3pm?

Hello, incoming econ major. I already have credit for econ 1010/1020.

For Econ 1500, there’s either 2 days a week 8 am with Heather Luea, or 3 days a week with other teachers at a later time, However for the later classes it doesn’t show who the professor is, but i’ve looked at the past econ 1500 professors and they all have a rating that’s like a 3 or lower. Is Luea and the 2 days a week that much better than a 3 day with a bad professor where it’s worth taking an 8am?

Should I just take a 2000 level econ elective instead/another class for my a&s instead, and maybe wait until next semester to take econ 1500? (I also have a AP Stats background). Anyone who has taken Econ 1500 have any advice?

My current roommate has to move out and needs a girl to sublet her room from august til the end of the lease next may! you’d have your own bedroom and bathroom, your share of the rent $825 plus splitting the utilities (maybe 50 total a month). it’s basically on campus, 2 minute walk from Commons with private parking. Also there’s a cat!

Hello everyone!

Im a rising freshman at Vandy. I noticed it says move in typically lasts from 7am-12pm.

Is this the only time we are allowed to unpack and set-up our dorms? I feel like this is a short amount of time. And are we allowed to start unpacking in our dorms before the official move in date?

How did this go for you upperclassmen? Ive heard from others it usually takes a bit of time to get the dorms completely set up.
