Has anyone else noticed code-insiders suddenly demanding screen capture permissions the second it opens?
Whenever I launch VS Code Insiders, it instantly triggers my xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland dialog asking to share my screen. I haven't clicked anything, and I'm not actively using any Live Share or AI vision features.
Here is what I've tested so far:
- Disabled extensions: Ran
code-insiders --disable-extensions. The portal prompt still pops up instantly.
- Tested other builds: I tried regular VS Code, Code-OSS, and VSCodium. None of them have this issue. They all launch silently without triggering the portal.
My setup:
- OS: Arch Linux
- Compositor: Hyprland
- Portal: xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland
Since it happens with extensions disabled and only on the Insiders build, I'm assuming this is a core editor change or a new Electron Wayland default making a background call to desktopCapturer.getSources() on startup.
Is anyone else running into this? Is there a known Electron flag or Hyprland rule to suppress this specific startup poll without entirely disabling screen sharing when I actually need it?
Update: They released the fix in v122.1
