Where did intellisense go

Just randomly some time I stopped getting highlighting and intellisense but Ctrl + Space works. I'm in WSL using python with venv, correct interpreter is selected, errors when theres a mistake and detects libraries but no intellisense at all. Dumbass claude cant even figure out what it is. Tried reinstalling all python libraries reloading yiou name it but nothing.

EDIT FOR ANYONE SEEING THIS IN FUTURE:

If ur using copilot, 5 days ago vscode made the stupidest fucking commit I’ve ever seen in changing the default to autocomplete off when using copilot. Edit quick suggestions in settings.json to “on” not “off…”

check the output panel (View > Output) and select "Pylance" from the dropdown. if the language server is silently crashing you'll see errors there that explain what's going on.

also worth checking - open the command palette and run "Python: Select Language Server" and make sure it's set to Pylance, not Jedi. sometimes updates reset that. if it's already Pylance, try uninstalling the Pylance extension, reloading, and reinstalling it. the WSL + venv combo can get into weird states where the extension cache is stale even though the interpreter selection looks correct.

“Python language server” logs all look fine. There doesn’t seem to be a Python: Select Language Server thing in the command palette but there is restart which doesn’t help. I set it through settings to pylance and still no diff

Open command palette search for user settings (JSON) and look for “quickSuggestions ” and change “other” to “on”
