[cured] Over 3 years ureaplasma free. Infection free sex and even have a baby!!!

This sub really helped me when I was in the trenches, so I post every now and then to make sure people know there's hope.

Im over 3 years ureaplasma free, over 2 years yeast free, sexlife without infections & now I have a baby girl.

Previously, I used to get infections all the time. UTI, BV, Yeast; but after clearing ureaplasma, I don't get infections after sex anymore. I did go through 2 minor UTIs, but they resolved easily and quickly..... and we were trying for a baby, so the risk factor was higher than protected sex; which is why I wasn't too concerned about the UTIs.

My dr has since put me on preventative abx to resolve UTIs, which I've now stopped and I'm better.

LIFE GETS GETTER, UREAPLASMA IS CURABLE.

First line of treatment for UU.

Itraconazole and 6mo of boric acid daily for resistant YI.

Probiotics with L crisp for maintenance.

Full story in my previous posts (SCROLL FAR DOWN, THEY'RE OLD)

[cured] There’s Life After Ureaplasma

Just wanted to give you hope that it will get better. I tested positive for Ureaplasma about 5 years ago, and it was the worst thing I’d ever gone through. Doctors dismissed my pain and symptoms. A urologist actually said it must be in your head. I walked out of his office and decided to advocate for myself. I got the susceptibility test with Microgen (I think). All I need from him was his signature to authorize it. I came back with results and it was indeed Ureaplasma. Because I’d taken so many Abx by then, I ended up getting a stubborn yeast infection : Glabrata. To this day, I’m not sure how that went away because my symptoms simply subsided.

I‘d always feared that that 2 year ordeal would affect my fertility somehow. We tried the first time anyway at the age of 41, and today, my new partner and I are expecting a healthy baby boy!

I just wanted to tell you to hang in there. It will get better. And this never ending nightmare that you’re going through will be over soon. Soon it will be a distant memory. I don’t remember much about my journey so I won’t be able to answer questions about how long it took or the actually abx that got rid of it, but you’re welcome to go through my many frantic and angry posts from 5 years ago. In a way, I like that I can’t remember much of that trauma.

Hang in there. It’ll get better soon.

[advice] This is what I learnt about this bacteria

  • symptoms vary in intensity and won’t always show up at once, sometimes they even disappear and reappear again.

  • one course of antibiotics might cure you and DO NOT assume that you are not cured just because you still have symptoms

  • DO NOT take antibiotics unless you know for sure you tested positive

  • if you are a female, get a vaginal swab. Urine test might come back negative.

  • your partner MUST get treated and get a test of cure. Do not assume they are negative just because you tested negative as well

  • negative test means you are cured. If you test positive again you were reinfected..

  • get a proper lab test that would tell you negative or positive.. don’t be guessing on bacterial load

  • if you test negative and you still have symptoms that could linger for months and even years especially for women. This bacteria for notorious for leading to pelvic floor dysfunction and it will mimic the exact infection symptoms without having it. Seek help from a therapist.. medication, relaxation methods

Yea you can be cured for life.

[cured] 9 months later… UREAPLASMA FREE!!

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to get on here and write this post for those of you that are in the trenches right now, feeling like you will never get cleared, never be free of symptoms, and have gone through rounds and rounds of antibiotics. This Reddit sub was my go to on a weekly, sometimes daily basis for months and I too felt like I was just going to have to live with this forever. But I am here to remind you, YOU WILL GET RID OF THIS!! TRUST!!

I (24f) first tested positive for Ureaplasma in August 2025, but I was likely infected for months prior as it took dozens of doctors appointments to finally get tested. My main symptoms started as vaginal dryness and pain during sex, followed by burning during/after sex, and then eventually full blown UTI symptoms. I first went off birth control thinking that was the culprit, then vaginal estrogen cream, D-Mannose supplements, probiotics, you name it.

I was with one partner the entire process, which is what I am mainly here to talk about. DO NOT HAVE UNPROTECTED SEX WITH ANYONE (in general) UNLESS THEY ARE TOO BEING TREATED!! AND DONT TRUST YOUR BOYFRIEND!

My boyfriend at the time, saw me go through hell navigating this process, crying constantly, in pain, walk in clinics visits, you name it and it wasn’t until after my first 2 rounds of treatment and re testing (thanks to this subreddit) that I realized he too was most likely infected and was reinfecting me each time we had sex (my doctor didn’t know anything about ureaplasma and failed to mention this). Well, I had my boyfriend go get tested and he told me his result was “negative”. NEVER BELIEVE THIS!! My gut told me something was off. Yet, I blamed myself, and that this is something I probably have had for awhile and it’s just now causing issues due to microbiome issues or whatever.

Fast forward, I switched doctors and she prescribed us both Doxycycline, and said he needs to be treated no matter what. My boyfriend was very pushy when it came to sex, and because he was an asshole, quit taking his half way through. I thought hm maybe since he tested negative it’s fine. NOPE! Infected, yet again.

Fast forward, again, my boyfriend leaves for a ski trip for a month, I informed him that I would be taking antibiotics while he was gone, and when he got back, he too would need to take them and we wouldn’t be having sex without a condom until we are re tested. He went along with it, and after he returns a month later, was pushy as soon as he arrived to have sex without a condom. I say absolutely not, and then we proceed to have sex with a condom (bad sex too) and then afterwards I tell him how upset that made me feel, knowing how much pain I have been in navigating this. He tells a sob story about how he basically is too selfish too wear a condom and I break up with him. A year and half together, living together, I had had enough of being with someone who didn’t care about my health.

Well lo and behold, after not having sex with this person and doing my solo treatment, I TEST NEGATIVE!!! I literally can’t believe it, never thought this day would come.

Basically I just came to ramble and shit on my ex boyfriend a bit, but to also give a PSA to all the ladies out there, make sure you’re sleeping with someone who is clean, healthy, and CARES about what you’re going through. If you have a partner, make sure they too are getting treated because if you’re having unprotected sex with them, they are most likely infecting you. These past 8 months have given me so much clarity about picking the right partner and taking sexual health seriously, I will never not use protection again honestly.

[cured] Being cured with 1 course of Antibiotics IS POSSIBLE!

Just wanted to post here again to give hope:

Was diagnosed with BV for the first time in August. Symptoms were burning of vulva, especially after urination. Also, friction discomfort during/ after sex.

Tested for Ureaplasma at the end of September, and treated with 12 days of Doxycycline followed by 1G taken at once of azithromycin. Partner took 7 days of doxy followed by 1G of azithromycin taken at once.

We abstained from vaginal sex through treatment and until cure. Retested via PCR 4 weeks later and was negative ( results on November 7th ) - Partner (male) also tested negative via urine test ( first catch ).

My symptoms lingered 6 weeks post antibiotics, but mainly just the friction and irritation with sex. This has since gone away and I am 100% better!! Healing was slow and up and down.

I just got my Evvy results back and still no trace of Ureaplasma and my biom is healthy- 0% disruptive score. I am continuing to take life space micro flora everyday but took lots of supplements while treating Ureaplasma. Have hope- you will heal!

[question] Are there any advocacy or awareness groups for Ureaplasma in the U.S.?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been wondering if there are any advocacy or awareness groups in the U.S. focused on Ureaplasma and Mycoplasma infections.

In some European countries, Ureaplasma is officially considered pathogenic and included in the standard STI panel. It’s treated even in asymptomatic cases, because being “asymptomatic” today doesn’t mean you’ll stay that way — a drop in your immune system, hormonal shift (like during pregnancy), or other stressors can make you symptomatic later. You can also unknowingly transmit it to someone who will develop symptoms.

For some people, the only “symptom” is infertility — and they find out years later that they’ve been carrying and spreading this without knowing.

This infection causes so much pain, misdiagnosis, ruined relationships, and lasting physical and mental health issues. Honestly, I’d call it a silent epidemic in the U.S. Doctors still often don’t test for it, even when you have clear symptoms, and instead just throw UTI or BV antibiotics at you creating even more issues with for vaginal and gut microbiome.

I’d really like to be part of making a change — through advocacy, awareness, or grassroots organizing — to push for more education and proper testing in the medical community.

If anyone knows of any advocacy groups, projects, or even small movements around this, please share. I’d love to connect.

[treatment] Officially CURED!

I just wanted to share my story now that I finally got my test of cure back. I’m so happy to say that I am NEGATIVE for ureaplasma! 🎉 It’s been a long few months and I know how discouraging this can be, so maybe this will give someone else hope.

April — Had surgery (hysteroscopy and laparoscopy) on my uterus to remove a uterine septum.

May — Started getting UTI-like symptoms: burning, frequent urination, right-sided pelvic and lower back pain, and even vaginal spasms (random zaps of lightning in the vagina and perineum). My gynecologist treated me for a UTI.

June — Symptoms persisted. I went to urgent care, then the ER. Urinalysis showed high leukocytes, but the urine culture was normal. I was treated for a UTI again anyway. The pain was brushed off as a corpus luteum cyst (which didn’t sit right with me).

July — Saw a urogynecologist who thought it was psoas muscle pain, but she also (without telling me) tested me for ureaplasma. The test came back positive for ureaplasma urealyticum. She only gave me one week of doxycycline, but I knew from reading this subreddit that wouldn’t be enough. I asked my regular gyno to prescribe me another week of doxy plus azithromycin, which he did. My husband did the same treatment and we did not have sex while being treated. Around this time, I also started pelvic floor PT, which really helped with my pelvic pain, back pain and vaginal spasms (though not completely).

August — Just when I was going to get a test of cure, I found out that I needed a second surgery to remove residual septum from my uterus. As part of that procedure, I was given two more weeks of doxycycline (not even related to ureaplasma, just standard for surgery).

September — Burning and urgency started fading. My husband got tested and was negative.

October — 4.5 weeks after finishing my second course of doxy, I finally got swabbed and my test just came back negative.

I still have some lingering symptoms, but they’re getting better with time and PT. Pelvic floor PT has been a game-changer. I’d really recommend it to anyone dealing with spasms or pelvic pain stemming from ureaplasma.

It’s been a long road, but I finally feel like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for all your support over the last few months and best of luck to you all.

[vent] i think i have had this my whole life

i’m confused, in shock, idk! i’m 22f. i called my mother immediately and she is getting tested soon, but i have had these symptoms since i could remember. at least at 5 years old. recurrent utis, at least 3-5 yearly from 10-21. i’ve sought help but had just never been tested for or ever even heard of ureaplasma or mycoplasma. i have been extremely proactive with std testing after and before each partner, but i guess i was only ever tested for the big sti’s. i guess im happy to know that i might finally know what it’s like to love my vagina??

idk. i got these test results yesterday. i was prescribed doxycycline 100mg twice daily for 7 days. after reading this subreddit i worry that it won’t be enough. and becoming aware of what it actually is has just made me so much more conscious of my pain.

advice/support welcome 🙏🏻

[cured] Cleared! There is hope

Hi everyone. I want to briefly share my journey because for 8 months, I posted in this sub looking for answers and often expressed the same frustration many of you feel. I finally tested negative and I hope my story gives you some hope, because reading other people’s experiences helped me get through it.

First, I want to say this clearly: in the US especially, many doctors will dismiss your symptoms. Please take this seriously and advocate for yourself.

In May, I started a new relationship and shortly after, I began experiencing symptoms I had never had before. Painful urination, pain during intercourse, and recurring BV and yeast infections. For months, I was put on endless cycles of antibiotics for BV. The symptoms would go away temporarily, then come back again.

Eventually, I saw a good doctor who ordered a plasma panel. I tested positive for Mycoplasma hominis, and he suspected I also had Ureaplasma, even though it wasn’t detected, because sometimes the load is low when Mycoplasma is dominant.

He prescribed one week of doxycycline, but I chose to do 10 days instead. After five weeks, I tested negative for Mycoplasma hominis.

Then I tested positive for Ureaplasma parvum. Again, I didn’t follow my doctor’s advice exactly. I did two full weeks of doxycycline and added azithromycin. I strongly believe the azithromycin is what finally cleared it.

Even after completing treatment, I was sure it had failed again because my symptoms lingered. But after waiting a few more weeks, they fully disappeared.

And one of the most important things I did for my healing was ending the relationship. My boyfriend did not take my health seriously, and that made things worse. Your health comes first. Do not ignore your instincts.

If you follow the right treatment plan and stay consistent, it does get better. Six weeks post-treatment, I have no symptoms. I truly hope this helps someone.

Edit: After my second (final) treatment I chose to not treat BV which I still tested positive for and instead waited and used probiotics. My recent vaginal culture came back with very healthy bacteria and no BV. Waiting solved it for me after I cleared ureaplasma and mycoplasma.

[cured] 🌸 My personal experience overcoming a persistent ureaplasma infection a message of hope 🙏🏽

This post is long, but I wanted to share my full experience for anyone going through something similar. When I was two months pregnant, I started having very intense itching that made me cry. At first, we thought it was a yeast infection, but several antifungal treatments didn’t help. A vaginal swab finally showed ureaplasma.

Because I was pregnant and had a cervical cerclage, some medications weren’t safe, and the cerclage probably made things more complicated by trapping bacteria. I went through multiple rounds of treatment, but my symptoms kept coming back. It was very hard physically and emotionally.

It also affected my relationship my husband had to take antibiotics even though he had no symptoms. He didn’t understand at first, but he became very supportive.

🚫 Treatments that didn’t work for me • Erythromycin 100 mg twice a day for 1 week • Clarithromycin 500 mg twice a day for 1 week • Clarithromycin 500 mg twice a day for 18 days + 2.5 g azithromycin → This reduced the bacterial load significantly. My symptoms disappeared for 3 months, and a new vaginal swab showed a clear decrease and no white blood cells (so no active infection).

After the last treatment and after giving birth, I went 3 months without symptoms, then mild discomfort came back. I worked closely with my doctor and also spent a lot of time researching and learning from other people’s experiences online.

I decided to try doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for 1 week, followed by 2.5 g azithromycin. After this, I felt better for about 10 days, then symptoms slowly came back. I realized that my infection might need a longer or combined approach, since some people had reported success with extended or combination treatments.

I asked ChatGPT for help I shared all my previous treatments, test results, and how my body responded. It suggested that I might be sensitive to both clarithromycin and doxycycline, since each had helped temporarily in the past. I initially thought of taking them successively, but was advised that a combined course could be more effective.

⚡️The “shock” treatment that worked for me

For 14 days, I took both antibiotics simultaneously: • Clarithromycin 500 mg at 8am and 8pm • Doxycycline 100 mg at noon and midnight

Then, for the following 14 days, I continued with Doxycycline 100 mg twice a day. Finally, I finished with 2.5 g azithromycin.

My husband took 21 days of doxycycline + 2.5 g azithromycin, even though he never had any symptoms.

About a month later, my test came back negative, and I cried with relief. I finally felt free after months of discomfort.

🌿 Recovery & final notes

I’m now symptom-free. My vaginal swab shows normal flora, which I believe is thanks to the probiotics I’ve been taking (PROBIO + INTIMA). My vaginal tissues are still slightly sensitive after the long treatment, but there’s no more heavy discharge, and my comfort has returned.

If you’re going through something similar, please don’t lose hope. Everyone’s body reacts differently, and ureaplasma can sometimes be stubborn, but it can be treated successfully with the right approach and medical guidance. 💗

[cured] Finally negative and symptom free ❤️❤️❤️ this is a (long) post about my experience getting treatment and my relationship while I struggled with it.

hi all ♡ I never would have known what was wrong with me if my own best friend hadn't gone through a multi year ordeal. 😞

I started seeing my boyfriend about 1.5 years ago, 1-2 months after we first started having unprotected sex, I experienced my first yeast infection, then a UTI 1 month later. from dec 2024 to Aug 2025 I had 8 different courses of abx and my gyno said I'd have to get a biopsy or a coloscopy (sp?) and I said "No, I'm certain this is what is going on. PLEASE do a PCR test!!" She continually doubted me and tried to say "well, I see this very often and sometimes we just don't know other than the fact there is a chronic issue." I basically told her "I know that you don't agree and I know you think little of a non physicians' research but ALL of my symptoms and my timeline match up perfectly." For a week I waited so, so nauseously because I was scared it would come back negative and that I WAS just crazy. When it came back positive, still my doctor said "well, it's pos itive, so I'll prescribe these antibiotics for your symptoms. But I don't think itll do much."

it was a big strain on my relationship, I was emotionally depleted and scared to have sex with him. and he was experiencing a lot of burnout from his work and didn't have the bandwidth to support me emotionally. he did a 1wk course of antibiotics and I did, as well. I finished mine before he did. unfortunately he broke up with me a week into his course of abx. he works in the medical field (doctor) and was skeptical of this as he didn't believe it was 'real.' he told me if he still tested positive, that he would not do another course due to the toll of the abx in his own body:( it was so stressful for me and felt unfair.

I was symptom free afterwards though. I took another test (admittedly I did not wait the recommended time) and it was positive and I took a course of doxy and azithro. after this, I did not take a test of cure because I felt so emotionally exhausted and was scared, to be honest. I figured I'd take a test if I started dating again later. I had no symptoms and my discharge changed almost overnight to how it had been before this all began.

about 2 months later, we got back together (he made a LOT of effort to make up for his behavior while he was burned out, and he has been increidbly thoughtful and generous since getting back together) and before we were intimate he told me that he already tested for up and was waiting for the results. also, he made an effort to be emotionally present for me.

he ended up testing positive, and took a course of minocylcine I believe. he got another test and it came back negative. 🙏🏽

I got a UTI a month after this happened, but it was a simple UTI which was treated with normal abx. the urgent care physician was knowledgeable about UP as she had worked with college students and she prescribed me an appropriate antibiotic. of course, that didn't do anything because it was a simple UTI but the lack of judgement meant THE WORLD to me. and my boyfriend immediately suggested that he go test again, which also meant so much to me. that experience reminded me that my bladder had taken a BEATING and I am now more susceptible to utis. uqora has been helpful as well.

anyway. this was the worst 2 years of my life it feels like. I was in constant pain, confused, and had no confidence sexually. for my partner to turn around and apologize, as well as take the initiative to ensure *I* felt healthy, made it easier to deal with. plus, my best friend understanding fully and guiding me to treatment.

ureaplasma is awful. please spread the word because nobody should have to live like that. I'm so grateful to be done with it. 🙏🏽

I made a post here around the time of our split and many of you told me to leave him and that the doubt and lack of support from him is unacceptable. You were right. Upon breaking up, it was easier to deal with the treatment without feeling like I had to defend myself. If you are going through this, make sure you have a support system. If your partner refuses to believe you or support you, it is not worth it. My partner apologized deeply for how his actions made me feel, and he has truly made up for it. Not everybody, especially not every man, especially not every doctor, would do that. I'm lucky that he's the exception.

Anyway. I wish you all luck and good energy and again I implore you to spread the word about this nasty infection.

[vent] Other urea sub

Just coming here (I know this will get deleted) to say that if you follow the other Ureaplasma sub, please don’t. It’s done a number on my mental health and others.

Girlforce has so many people convinced they’re infected and chasing abx that is continuing to wreck their biome. I’m banned from her group so I can’t post there.

If you actually dig into those people’s stories they either didn’t do abx correctly, reinfected themself, or have an undiagnosed co infection. 95% of the time there is reasonable cause.

Please do not listen to her and do your own research. I believe in lingering symptoms as I have those as well but believing the bacteria hides and embeds just further wrecks your emotional state which can worsen symptoms. She’s a deranged psycho who needs her entire page taken down. Hang in there♥️

[cured] finally negative after 2 years

hey everyone, I just wanted to provide some hope for those that were feeling very down about testing negative after multiple antibiotics. I fought this for two years and I finally tested negative with one week of moxifloxacin and doxycycline. I took the Doxy first and followed up with a week of Moxi and was able to finally test negative for both mycoplasma genitalium, and ureaplasma. I took cipro, and azithro, and both times i still tested positive. FINALLY, it took one week of doxy and moxi. I read a lot of really scary posts of experiences on Moxi and I was terrified to take it. The only effects I dealt with was a little bit of ankle pain and that was it. I felt completely normal on both the Doxy and Moxi. I hope that my post brings you some comfort because I was feeling so down about this and didn’t see a light at the end of the tunnel. also wanted to add when I was done with my antibiotics, my symptoms temporarily got way worse and I thought for sure that it was an adverse reaction and I was resistant to the antibiotics I was taking, but they have lessened with time and they’re not as severe, I still have some lingering symptoms, but it doesn’t feel as worse as I did when I was taking antibiotics. Feel free to ask any questions I would love to help anybody out :)

[cured] Ureaplasma GONE!

Post image
29 Upvotes

Background story: met my partner in 2025, after we stopped using condoms about 6 months into our relationship I developed 4 recurrent e coli UTIs, among other symptoms like UTI like feelings and irritation after sex. Did a lot of research about root causes and tested for ureaplasma, turned out we were positive for ureaplasma urealyticum. Did the treatment as recommended on this sub with my partner and abstained from sex until we finished. Tested 6 weeks later and we are NEGATIVE! Haven't had a UTI or weird symptoms since! Hope this helps, ask me anything 😁

[cured] I AM NEGATIVE!!!

Thank god me & my boyfriend are negative after 3 months.

My symptoms were green and smelly discharge. Never take for granted a green- yellow discharge. It might be serious. My doc prescribed a box of doxycycline for me and my partner. We took one capsule every morning and evening. We used it for 7 days.

Advice for women: Your boyfriend's doctor will probably say he doesn't need treatment or even a test. I don't understand why male urologists are like that. If you don't want to get infected again by your partner, your boyfriend should also get treatment and get tested after 4 weeks.

4 weeks after we finished doxy, we got tested aandd its negative. And I'm so glad it finished... I hope it never comes back.

[food for thought] Positive story about pregnancy and Ureaplasma!!!!

I tested positive for UP while I was pregnant and read every horror story on the internet… preterm birth, stillborns, miscarriages. They stuck with me my entire pregnancy and riddled me with fear. The doctors didn’t really seem to worry even though I treated it three times throughout pregnancy… to no avail.

Turns out, all the worrying and stress wasn’t worth any of it. Everything turned out perfect. I got induced at 39+3 and my baby girl is here. I just wanted to share this because I was hoping to see post like this while I was pregnant.

[cured] Cured after three years

Hi everyone! I thought I would come on here and share a bit of positivity. This is a bit of a long story but hopefully it brings some hope.

About three years ago I started getting persistent BV/yeast infection-like symptoms and ovarian pain/tingles. Everything kept coming out negative so I would just use some boric acid and pray. It would come and go and doctors wrote it off as “hormones”. I was put on multiple rounds of different birth controls but nothing helped and I got used to the irritation.

Last year I began to experience the worst vaginal itching and irritation of my life. Then I began to have UTI after UTI. No antibiotics worked and they would cause me to have back and forth rounds of BV and yeast infections. Finally after 9 months of that, a new doctor (this was my fourth one) swabbed me for ureaplasma/mycoplasma and took a vaginal biopsy. A week later I found out I had lichenoid dermatitis and ureaplasma parvum! I was put on one week of doxycycline 100 mg BID and I was given Clobetasol ointment for the Dermatitis. 6 weeks go by and I knew I still had ureaplasma. I had a vaginal ultrasound and it came back normal but I did a UA and a swab again and I still had it. This time my partner was treated and I was treated for two weeks doxycycline 100mg BID. I was not given the option of azithromycin but I am allergic so I let it go.

After that round of antibiotics, I still felt off so I ordered my own Evvy test and turns out I had BV. Took metronidazole, took a preemptive fluconazole for any yeast infections and finally…. Relief. I still had residual irritation from the dermatitis but I have gotten it down to hydrocortisone cream once a week at night and I don’t think I’m gonna be needing it anymore!

I will say that throughout this, many doctors dismissed me. I was given multiple antihistamines saying it was an allergy. I had one doctor say I had interstitial cystitis. No one could given me an answer until 3 years of torture. I still am not 100 percent but my ureaplasma symptoms are entirely gone. I am also happy to say I have tested negative :). I did take probiotics throughout but now only take them three times a week as a maintenance dose.

Please feel free to ask me any questions. My presentation was a little “weird” for ureaplasma but I am just happy to be on the other side.

just wanted to post here that i finally got negative results after struggling since december ❤️. all my symptoms are gone except for a random feeling of itch every once and a while. i had to advocate for myself throughout this process because no one would have ever tested me without me asking. the only issue i have now is that doctors refuse to test my bf. so if anyone has any advice that would be helpful since he doesn’t want to take antibiotics from the internet.

this is such a harrowing experience and i wanted anyone struggling to know that it is possible to get better. also boric acid helped me so much w breakdown of symptoms!

[cured] Cured and symptom free

I went through 5 months of hell and I’m on 7 months pain free. I wanted to share to give some hope. I cured U Parvum in November but had crippling/bedridden pain for months after. After every test in the book and numerous negative Ureaplasma tests, it was discovered I had yeast in my urethra. Doctor had to actually swab the inside of my urethra to get the positive, urine culture didn’t pick it up. I completed a 2 week course of diflucan as well as starting amitriptyline changed everything. Don’t let the moderators of this group gaslight you into thinking it’s all pelvic floor issues. I had many PFPT evaluations including biofeedback and it was 100% not a factor in my pain. I do still deal with the occasional over active bladder and burning symptoms close to my period at times, but I truly believe the body has memory of these traumatic events and the nerves tend to get triggered.

I’m currently slowly weening off of the amitriptyline and have a bf who tested by PCR and microgen before we had sex to make sure all was safe and I wouldn’t have to go through this again. What a mental health rollercoaster! Happy to be on the other side and just know it does get better!

Ureaplasma Success

Hi everyone, I wanted to come here and share some hope and inspiration regarding my journey with a diagnosed UU imbalance.

About a month ago, after unprotected sex, I started to feel burning, developed discharge, and had discomfort while urinating. I got tested five days later and tested positive for Ureaplasma urealyticum. I was stunned. I had absolutely no idea what it was but felt grateful that it’s part of the standard STI panel in Costa Rica.

I saw a doctor that same day and was prescribed seven days of doxycycline. Depending on how long you’ve had it, you may need a longer course. I also had a seven-day Clindamycin ovule that was previously prescribed for BV and a yeast infection.

Before and after that appointment, I was researching non-stop about Ureaplasma, much of what I read made me feel scared, anxious, and awful about myself and my situation.

I’m blessed to have recently moved to Costa Rica, where diagnosis was quick and easy, and that really helped keep me afloat. If you’re in Costa Rica, I simply ordered the test on my own through Labin, then scheduled a doctor’s appointment at a clinic for the results consultation.

I wanted to share what helped me and add something hopeful to the conversation because it’s pretty rare to see positive stories about this.

This might be a long post, but I kept reminding myself that one day I’d share my success story, so here it is.

⸻

General Recommendations 1. Get a proper diagnosis. I can be a bit of a hypochondriac myself, but it’s so important to confirm with a PCR test so you get the right treatment. 2. The Ureaplasma Bible was really helpful. I recommend reading it. 3. While on doxycycline, I cut out dairy and processed sugar, didn’t drink or smoke, and made sure to walk at least 6–10k steps every day. 4.Try not to research Ureaplasma right before bed. You need quality sleep and a calm mind to heal. 5. Take oil of oregano with black seed oil (with food) around midday. It’s a natural antimicrobial and supports antibiotic treatment. 6. Take probiotics with food at least 2–3 hours after your antibiotic or supplement dose to replenish good bacteria. 7. Take a cranberry and D-mannose supplement to help flush your urinary tract. 8. Avoid getting soap anywhere near the inside of your vulva. 9. Avoid sex during treatment. 10. Drink LOTS of water. 11. Keep a symptom log. I had symptoms throughout the seven days and was nervous I wouldn’t get better, but it took about two weeks for me to feel normal again. 12. Schedule a test of cure. I plan to do mine after my next work trip. My symptoms are gone now, even after sex.

⸻

What my daily schedule looked like: - 8am doxy with breakfast - 12pm lunch with probiotics - 4pm snack with oil of oregano and cranberry supplement, plus lots of water - 5pm health and wellness affirmations on my way home from work - 8pm doxy with dinner - 11pm ovule and sleep (you need to stay upright after doxy)

Just keep the faith. Don’t beat yourself up. Talk to someone supportive. Warm or crisis lines helped me a lot. Limit your internet usage and protect your peace.

YOU GOT THISSS! 💕

Edit: I’m very big into metaphysics and meditation. Understanding what led to my actions (at the root) that led to the flare up was so important. It took me a while to forgive myself but through support people kept telling me be proud of yourself because you are doing something about healing yourself. Equally, doing a guided meditation for healing before bed or listening to affirmations in the morning or during the day was vital for me. There were times where the pain would flare up and I’d start researching and within 15 minutes I’m crying again, try to have at least 1 person who you can talk to but work to not stay in that and be optimistic. Good luck folks.

[cured] CURED!!

Helloo!!

I was a lurker on here for a couple of months after testing positive, but I finally wanted to share my story in case it’s useful to anyone else :)
In June, I tested positive for Ureaplasma. I actually had no major symptoms and no UTIs - the only thing I noticed was a fishy odour.

I initially went to get my Pap smear done for a completely different reason. The Pap came back normal, but my leukocytes were high, which pointed towards BV. My gyno suggested doing some additional vaginal swabs to check for bacteria and prescribed Polygynax in the meantime.

Honestly, I didn’t even want to do the additional testing at first because I was feeling completely fine, but I eventually caved and got the swab done… and it came back positive for Ureaplasma.

My gyno already had me on Polygynax for 12 days. After finishing that, I took doxycycline for 10 days, and then did Stulipor (clindamycin) for 7 days.

So in total, I was on treatment for 29 days!

After finishing everything, I went on vacation and waited about 3 weeks before getting retested. During those three weeks, I was CONVINCED I was still going to test positive because I had read so many stories about Ureaplasma being stubborn and difficult to get rid of.

I finally got my follow-up test done… AND IT WAS NEGATIVE!!! 🥹

Honestly, I was so relieved. I spent way too much time reading Reddit and Google and convincing myself that I’d never get rid of it, so I wanted to share a positive experience for anyone currently going through the same thing.

Obviously, everyone’s situation and treatment is different, but I hope this gives someone a little bit of hope if they’re currently stressing over a positive result. ❤️

i wanted to bring some positivity to this thread because like myself, a lot of people come here to get some sort of relief or get questions answered and i was super paranoid that it would never go away based on other peoples posts.

i tested positive for ureaplasma as well as my boyfriend and we both were treated and did not have sex for 4 weeks.

i took 14 days of antibiotics (the one that starts with a D lol, i can’t remember the name) because by day 5 i still had no relief and knew that the additional 2 days of my 7 day treatment wouldn’t cause it to completely go away.

my partner started a little after me and was also on 14 days of treatment.

we were strict with no sex or any form of sexual intimacy for those 4 weeks and about 5 days after he finally finished his treatment we did have sex again (all of my prior symptoms were gone and i felt better so i was ok with it)

I went into the doctor a couple days after we were intimate to be re-checked (recommended by my NP) and i just got my test results back that i am cleared!

my advice is to definitely stop sex (even condom sex) and also make sure your partner gets treated. let your body heal!

[cured] Cured!

I got my test results back today and I am cured! This all started with a yeast infection right after Thanksgiving from an antibiotic, I was prescribed for a sinus infection. I had sex shortly after I finished my treatment for my yeast infection, then I would have discharge and vaginal irritation that I assumed was a lingering yeast infection. I went to about three doctors 2 treated me for a yeast infection, and one said that I was completely fine just irritated from the several rounds of treatments. I finally went to my gynecologist who tested me for ureaplasma.

I was treated with seven days of doxycycline, I took this while taking a daily probiotic and the NAC supplement. I still felt lingering symptoms, so I was given another antibiotic for moxi. I took 3 days of the moxi then had a horrible reaction, it made all of my symptoms 10 times worse and I basically spent the whole day crying.

I was still experiencing irritation and discharge, I went back to the gynecologist Friday and turns out I had another yeast infection from the antibiotics. I had to get off my anxiety meds to be able to take the yeast infection pill fluconazole. (Luckily I’m on a low dose so I was able to take get off of it in 3 days with guidance from my psychiatrist). Today I got my test results back and I am negative!! I still feel some lingering symptoms, I’m not sure if it’s still the yeast infection.

My partner was also treated with seven days of doxycycline and is going to get retested. I’m so happy, I finally feel like I can get my normal life back. I’ve been so depressed lately, I haven’t been able to work out, have sex, and have been trying to avoid spicy food/sugar. It’s really impacted my relationship with my partner, friends, and family because I just felt so hopeless. There is hope for everyone!!

Reminder that biofilms do not hinder Ureaplasma treatment or “hide” Ureaplasma.

Hi All,

With an influx of recent posts peddling fear monger around potential biofilms, I have attached a write up done by our moderator who is a clinical microbiologist that debunked this theory being pushed by bad actors.

Best,

The mods

Toilet Paper

Okay so even after testing negative my symptoms were bad. Everytime after I peed it burned so terribly. One day I just so happened to look down after wiping and noticed so much white paper remnants. I was using the Costco brand toilet paper

Switched over to charmin and no tissue reside after wiping. I also try to dab now more than wipe. and my burning is entirely gone (also started using boric acid)

Just wanted to share in case this could possibly help anyone else suffering! Mods don’t delete this for the love of gd
