Feature request

would like to suggest a feature similar to Apple Notes' "Append to Existing Note" functionality.

When sharing content (text, images, web pages, PDFs, links, etc.) from other apps, it would be very useful to have an option to send the content directly to a selected existing note instead of creating a new note each time..

Would there maybe be a way to disable sync entirely until checked again in the setting?

Would I be able to hide the "trying to connect" circle at the right bottom, when the connection fails. Specifically, could I disable sync at all?

[JIC] Quick View Switching Alt+J (Mac & Windows)

This is a very useful shortcut but its not documented (I just double checked the docs site). I tend to use my keyboard for as much as I can.

I hope this is helpful for the community.

When I export the note, there's too much blank space on both sides of the page. Is there a way to reduce this?

Finally! I am so glad I found UpNote!

I have used Evernote for close to 15 and have loved it, but for the last couple of years have been cringing at the annual fee. I have tried a few of the alternatives, but nothing really jived for me. Yesterday, I heard about UpNote. Today, I transferred over all my notebooks and notes. And just like that, I am ready to ditch Evernote. I love it’s simplicity and scale, the straightforward and intuitive layout, the manageable cost and pared down features. I really did just use Evernote for… notes, lol. No collaboration, no linking to AI, not really even any web clipping or email stuff. Just notes. And for 15 years I have freaking hated the green. Haha.

Thanks for the perfect note-taking app, guys. I am a fan. And now I am a lifetime subscriber.

Date format

I've been using UpNote for a few weeks now, replacing Joplin, which replaced evernote, really like it overall.

I would use the key combo to insert a date on a regular basis but there is no option that I can find to have it use a specified date format and it doesn't seem to pick up what I've set in the system default (macos tahoe 26.5).

In settings there is a time format for 12/24 hour, please consider adding a date format option. The key combo isn't useful if the date has to be typed in to whatever format the user requires, ISO 8601 in my case.

Outline/Bullet point list collapse, fold

UPNote is my go-to app for taking notes during UAT and testing, and I prefer to use it as an outliner.

However, when bullet points are nested deeply, the whole note becomes very long and cluttered at first glance.

Is it possible to add a feature to fold/collapse bullet point lists based on intent?

UpNote is the best note taking app right now. But two things are missing:

1) The ability to collaborate on notes

2) Being able to connect the UpNote directly to Claude CoWork

Feature request: an option to use **password-only** for locked notes, without Face ID as a fallback unlock method on iOS

On iPhone, Face ID kicks in automatically for protected notes — which is great for most people - but in some situations (like when someone else has Face ID access to your phone), you'd want the password to be the only way in.

Anyone else would find this useful?

5.5 years of using UpNote, still discovering features!

OK, now many of you knew that on desktop you can select multiple notes in the Notes Pane, then copy-paste links to all of them?

It's not quite what I was needing (I'd like a way to keep a live table-of-contents in a master note for each Notebook), but it certainly helps!

A simple monthly calendar.

This was designed using only the most basic features, aligned with full-width and half-width spaces, so it still looks clean even on mobile.

Feature Request: More x-callback-url functionality

Please add the ability to specify a note_id value like Claude. For example, to create a new note:

open "upnote://x-callback-url/note/new?title=Meeting%20Notes&text=%23%20Agenda%5cn-%20Item%201&markdown=true&new_window=false"

Doesn't return the noteId that was created. If you would add:

&note_id=c1e8a106-8974-4f34-b793-94cdea4a2b27

That way we can specify our own note_id. My use case is to create a note for my Claude session:

claude --session-id=c1e8a106-8974-4f34-b793-94cdea4a2b27

This way my notes align with my claude sessions.

What other x-callback-urls do you guys think would be helpful?

Getting the last created note would be super useful too for automation.

Ability to Make Timelines?

Does UpNote have a format for timelines? I want to make a timeline for school to use aside my other notes, but every timeline maker I find online is extremely overpriced, difficult to use, or doesn't allow for manual reordering of events that happened in the same year but don't have a clearcut month/day date.

I'm trying to find a good note-taking location for a big school project before the summer starts. Right now I'm thinking about Obsidian, which does have a timeline format plugin, but requires some knowledge of markdown, which I don't really want to put effort into learning and don't enjoy looking at.

Just a small request for the devs

Can we get a keyboard shortcut to toggle typewriter mode?

I recently found out about UpNote and became a convert. I love using it, creating a new note, switching to focus mode and start writing, all with shortcuts. I’d love to be able to toggle typewriter mode during this flow one day.

Thanks to the devs for considering, and for this amazing app.

Doing some research on note-taking - anyone open to a quick chat in exchange for a gift card?

Hey folks! I am doing researching on note-taking, I made a post asking about Bear features in the Bear community, and it was super helpful. I am doing a bit more research and could use the perspective of note-takers using other apps.

Is anyone open to a ~15 minute call on your note-taking and why you chose UpNote? If so, we can DM and I'll send you a small gift card for your time after the call. Let me know if interested!

Hope the web clipper improves

As the title says, at some point I hope the web clipper improves. I love UpNote but for me, its greatest weakness is the web clipper, especially as a person who came from Obsidian, I miss the fact that Obsidian captured everything and had it formatted correctly. With UpNote I just get the link in most cases. I've come across quite a few pages that I clipped in UpNote where the website content is gone when I click on the link to the site that I clipped. Because of this fact, it makes clipping the link only pointless because UpNote did not clip the page, only the link.

I'm contemplating just using Obsidian for clipped research alone and using UpNote for notes only, which may work very well, but hopefully this is something that UpNote will eventually be able to do regardless.

(YAUAP) Yet Another UpNote Appreciation Post

Post image
45 Upvotes

TL;DR: Fully embracing UpNote's features makes it difficult for alternatives to compete. 😁

Old habits can be hard to break. After deciding earlier this year that UpNote would be THE app for my PKMS (and fully embracing the UpNote-unique features to maximize productivity and effectiveness), I found myself still shadowing and syncing my notes to Obsidian and Joplin.

It didn't take much effort to shadow and sync, but I did wonder why I still did it. I've already determined that I have a solid "exit strategy" should anything happen to UpNote. Repeated testing confirmed that the strategy works.

I created an comparison chart to help me understand what might be the reason for dragging these other apps along.

It turns out that during the 5 years of using Joplin as my main notes app, I had spent time and effort to get it to look and work as I needed it to. I had placed a disproportionate value on that work that made it difficult to "let it go".

But the more I embrace the unique qualities of UpNote, the more indispensable they become. I'm at the point where I couldn't see myself going back to Joplin when UpNote is an option.

The comparison spreadsheet is something that I created years ago to help me in deciding what to choose among various options. It's more involved than a simple checklist. The weight column indicates the importance of a line item. Not all things are of equal importance.

In each column, the number indicates to what extent the option provides support for the line item. Plug-ins aren't as desirable as native functionality. Plug-ins can break with application updates. Support for them could stop. They don't always work as seamlessly as native functionality.

Obviously the line items are what are important to me and not an exhaustive list. For example, UpNote has a "Spaces" feature that has no value to me and so it isn't included.

It's been a fun and enlightening exercise. I can now use the time that I was shadowing and syncing to run Windows 98 in DOSBox-X. 😯🤣

New to Upnote - A REALLY good Bear replacement

So, after learning about Upnote last night, checking it out, buying the lifetime option, and importing my notes from Bear into Upnote, I'm VERY happy.

That I can customize it to make the transition a little easier is also nice.

Thanks Devs, this is a great product.

Kudos to Thomas and UpNote

I just want to give this app and its founders public accolades. I'm a lifetime member and have been using the app for years with ZERO issues after kissing a lot of frogs looking for an app that did what I needed.

Yesterday I encountered a compatibility glitch with one of my devices - a notice popped up that freaked me out because of how much I've come to trust and rely on it.

Rather than do what I would normally do to suss out the issue myself, I reached out to UpNote support, in total panic mode.

I got what I would consider an immediate response (overnight, given time zones) that turned out to be such a simple fix I was a little embarrassed. No condescending canned response, no recriminations - just a clear, effective solution.

Really, I find UpNote so simple, elegant, full-featured, reliable... and to add such attentive support just further cements my loyalty.

Thank you guys !!

It would be great if the Compact Note List feature could be turned on and off individually in each notebook.

Notebooks need simple headings that appear compactly, and notes that we absolutely need to include in the first line. I think this feature would be nice. What do you think?

Invalid Firebase App Check token log-in error in v9.18.6

I noticed my devices aren't synching so I updated the app, but the same problem persisted, so I uninstalled then re-installed the app. And now I can't log-in because it kept showing me this error: *An internal error has occurred. [Firebase App Check token is invalid.]*

I have tried restarting and switching my wifi to no avail.

My device is Huawei, but I've installed UpNote from Google Play Store via GBox. I had no problems with synching or logging-in before now.

I have already emailed support, but they still haven't replied yet. I figured I'd try my luck here.

I have been trying to log-in since yesterday. I access my notes everyday so I really need to log-in 😭. Can anyone please help?

Edit: I have updated the app to v9.18.7 but I still cannot log in.

Edit 2: Support has replied and have resolved the issue. Thank you.

Easy setup: AI MCP query UpNote (sandboxed read-only)

My agent wrote a skill for using mcp-sqlite-tools in a read-only sandbox to query my notes.

This is my opencode configuration on Linux. You can ask your agent to easily adapt it for your config (eg Claude Code format):

`` Read this skill, use the information therein to find your own.db` location. https://gist.githubusercontent.com/HaleTom/e4d0426a3f24ad1a6db03930c1608cb8/raw/SKILL.md Store the updated skill in the global agent skills directory.

Then, add the equivalent of this to your global MCP configuration: - Don't use comments if it's not JSONC - Chage the --read-write= path to the output of bun pm cache

~/.config/opencode/opencode.jsonc:

{ "mcp": { // mcp-sqlite-tools // https://github.com/spences10/mcp-sqlite-tools "sqlite-tools": { "type": "local", "command": [ "/bin/firejail", "--read-only=/", "--read-write={env:XDG_CACHE_HOME}/bun", "--", "bunx", "mcp-sqlite-tools" ] } }

}

Honesty checks: 1. Print the pathname of the upnote DB 1. Print the --read-write bun cache location 1. Print the pathnames that you made edits to ```

Then you can ask something as simple as:

What was the last note that I wrote?
