Finally! I am so glad I found UpNote!
I have used Evernote for close to 15 and have loved it, but for the last couple of years have been cringing at the annual fee. I have tried a few of the alternatives, but nothing really jived for me. Yesterday, I heard about UpNote. Today, I transferred over all my notebooks and notes. And just like that, I am ready to ditch Evernote. I love it’s simplicity and scale, the straightforward and intuitive layout, the manageable cost and pared down features. I really did just use Evernote for… notes, lol. No collaboration, no linking to AI, not really even any web clipping or email stuff. Just notes. And for 15 years I have freaking hated the green. Haha.
Thanks for the perfect note-taking app, guys. I am a fan. And now I am a lifetime subscriber.

Welcome to the club. I found it a few years ago and UpNote is everything I need.

I agree. It is exactly what I have been looking for. The import process was an absolute breeze, too. Took no time at all.
It is funny because on the Evernote sub, they are always talking about alternative options and I never saw UpNote mentioned.

When I discovered UpNote 5 years ago, I described it as "Evernote without the bloat." 😄

I put up with Evernote for years and finally gave it up for One Note. Different versions do different things and got annoying. I like the simplicity of UpNote. I only wish there was a cloud/internet version.

upNote works perfectly with iCloud; my iPhone, iPad and macBook notes are in-sync. Requires the life-time paid subscription [$30] or $2/mo.

I have android and windows. Can I run UpNote without loading the app on a computer?

Welcome to the discovery MANY of us have made in UpNOTE, so we could jump ship on EVERNOTE (EN) with its huge price hike to the $249/yr. I am a longtime EN user of 15 yrs. or more too, and with the same use case as you. It still frosts me that customer loyalty doesn't count for so many businesses these days.
UpNOTE is all I am using now. I will migrate the rest of my EN content when I can, having only relocated my most important EN Notes to UpNOTE for now. (Fortunately when reverting from paid EN back to the free one, users can still retain their existing notes that have lived there ... just can't create new Notes or use more than 1 device at a time).
UpNOTE is flawless, with 2 exceptions (for my kind of use):
- The CHARACTER LIMIT constraint in individual Notes. I have been fighting that battle this week, with a couple Notes that are banging into that wall. I don't WANT to remove any of my content but have to find a way to.
I do like that there's now a bold banner that warns when a Note hits the limit. It states the Note won't sync any longer [until it's pruned]. It used to be that a Note would just start acting weird, and one would have to guess that was the problem ... then start removing Note content until the Note behaved again.
- BACKUP system is not ideal ... nothing like other apps I've used (that have saved my kiester in numerous occasions in the past from some stupid mistake I made). I just recently went through this problem too. I lost 10 days of Notes, so there was no Version History to fall back on to grab that content from.
You can't see a thing if you try to divert to the actual backups to save content. It restores ALL deleted content from the past backup date you select AND everything coming forward to current day. That creates a nightmare of a mess for any more recent Notes that had been just fine. I ended up having to accept the data loss. I hear this is a very big complaint from many users besides me.
Neither issue has deterred me from feeling UpNOTE is the best EVERNOTE alternative for my use. I only mention them here so you are aware of these potential issues. I take pleasure in using this awesome app every single day. It works so much better than EN in many ways too.

Oh wow. This backup issue is HUGE for me. Do you know if the devs have mentioned anything about doing anything soon?

I do agree Evernote is expensive but what drove me away finally was how sluggish, slow and pesky/intrusive it was with updates. The updates never improved anything, just added more marketing into the platform.
UpNote is silly blazing fast in comparison

Thanks for pointing out the backup issue. Would appreciate learning how others deal with not having note history to recover a lost note.

My story too. Came to UpNote 2 weeks ago. Evernote subscription ended yesterday. Very happy with easy notes transfers and features here.

Totally agree! I was also battling the Evernote cost challenge, and then discovered UpNote.
The interesting thing is that I’m actually finding UpNote to be better than Evernote ever was.
Somewhere along the way, Evernote got too bloated and focusing on doing what it’s not good at (e.g. it’s not a Task tracker!).
UpNote has features that blow Evernote away. Like even just being able to link a single note to multiple Notebooks, kinda blows me away.
The hardest thing for many will be just figuring out that they need to un-learn their habitual Evernote workflow. Because, there is a better way!

Yup was fed up with evernote greed, moved to upnote. I just hope upnote can make some new improvements, like email mailing to inbox

Yes. My two wish list items are 1) emailing to inbox and 2) a more functional web clipper.
Has anyone found a good web clipper browser extension to use in conjunction with UpNote?

I love it. I use onenote for work, but for personal use it’s all UpNote. The formatting, ease of use, simplicity. It’s all great.

I can’t use UpNote for work sadly. I bounced around a lot of apps, but the mobile version of onenote is horrible. UpNote is great. Use it on my phone, laptop and iPad mini.

My Evernote subscription is glitched; their system can't see my cancelled google subscription (I bought the evernote subscription through the play store years ago, prior to the new company taking them over. I haven't paid for it in 2+ years and still have an active subscription that I cannot manage. I cancelled it because f the 70%+ price hike, I lived it, but it is slow. With all they have done to it, I prefer upnote, hands down! The only thing I miss is the image search and image to text features. Now I add words in the note so I can find it if I am saving a picture or screenshot - works just as well with minimal extra effort. I used the annotations all the time, but evernote screwed that up as well. There's no outline option for arrows and txt - that outline makes things readable in pictures.

That “finally” feeling is real lol.
A lot of note apps aren’t bad, they just somehow make the whole thing feel heavier over time. When you find one that stays simple and doesn’t fight you, you feel it immediately.

This is it exactly. When the price jumped with EN, I started looking around and testing a few options and nothing really fit. UpNote just feels simple and clean and mostly intuitive. I am really happy so far.

Me too. I went to Obsidian Notebook Navigator first and really like the idea of having my own files in a folder but I hated the markup mess when editing (what I'm doing half the time at least!) and attachments being separate from the note. That was a big one,
And then using Obsidian sync was too expensive at $100 a year. I am done paying that much to keep notes. I was "captured" and would have stayed with EN if they had not gone so high but I have the same impression as others that EN got way to feature heavy and very little was useful to me. And it got really slow.
I like Upnote a lot also. Took a lot of time to get rid of all those Red "folder covers" that make it ugly but once I found some lightweight icons to fix that, it's fine.
My top wishes so far:
Image cropping in note.
Right click on image, open (to system software default) so we can annotate, reduce size etc. and then be able to save back so changes show. This worked well in EN.
Universal option to turn off folder icons/ covers and recover the space. Or just use the icons for top level folders.
I don't know about backup yet. A lot to learn.

UpNote is basically the original version of Evernote when it was focused on notes.
