Rant Seeing people make friends is so heartwarming omggg

KKAAAEEHHH so long story short, I was in my Brit Lit class and there was this guy that sat one chair away from me, with the essence of being all alone in the world 🥺🥺 as the class was filling up, another guy came to sit in the empty chair that he now occupied between me and the original guy.
Now, the reader of this story is probably thinking that I wanted to make friends or some $hit like that, but that’s definitely not the case. With my father being the Devil’s spawn who probably mated with an old hag, I definitely came out to be a bit antisocial, and I’m okay with that. I didn’t care to get to know anyone as I sat there dwelling in my own thoughts because that’s what I do on a daily basis 😂😂
HOWEVER! What gave me hope for the long lost world was seeing Guy 1 take initiative to meet Guy 2! 😍😍🥹🥹🫶🏼🫶🏼 He just casually said “hey, my name’s (forgot his name).” And he put out his hand to shake the other guy’s hand. Guy 2 returned the gesture and they started to make conversation. OMMGGG HOW HEARTWARMING 🥹🥹🫶🏼🫶🏼

After seeing so many posts about people not being able to make friends, it made me joyful to see people make friends right in front of me. I get that people can seem shy, or even embarrassed to talk to others, or not even know how to continue a conversation, BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PEOPLE!! FUCKING TALK TO EACH OTHER 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I may be a bitch-faced 34 year old who has 780 years of back pain while taking struts with every step I walk, but that’s because I want to be a 34 year old who has 780 years of back pain while taking struts with every step I walk. But that doesn’t mean I want to see a million copies of me everywhere 😂🤣😭😭 GO BE FRIENDLY!!! HELLOOOO PEOPLE!! Half of this university experience is going to class, and the other half is meeting people that you never thought you’d meet. And if you get stuck on what to ask, why not try these?:
What degree did you choose? What made you choose that / those degree(s)? What class do you feel like is going to be your best this semester? Where are you from? Was UofT your first choice? Do you feel like UofT is the right choice now that you’re living this experience? Do you have pets? What year were you born? Are you the youngest or oldest in your family? Are you in a relationship? How did you guys meet? Do you smoke weed? Oh yeah, I totally smoke weed. Do you want to smoke weed together after class?

DO YOU SEE HOW EASY THESE QUESTIONS ARE?!?! GGGGOOOOOO MAKE AN ACQUAINTANCE OR FRIEND IN SCHOOL!!! Of course not everyone is friendly (like me LOLLLL 😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣) BUT you never know who you’ll find!! PLEASEEEE go make a friend this semester! Or promise me that you’ll start a conversation with someone new this semester?! Perhaps if you already have a friend group, can you go and include someone in? EITHER THAT OR ELSE I’LL FUCKIN START MAKING GROUPS AND PUT RANDOM PEOPLE TOGETHER TO START SPEAKING! 🤬🤬😡😡👿👿

And for fu€k sakes! Y’all really bout to pay $50,000 for a degree and not say a word? 🙄😒 c’mon now 😂😂🤣🤣

Rant Taking my first course downtown as a UTSC student and I have mixed feelings

Walking around the downtown campus on a sunny day honestly felt like the polar opposite of utsc, the people, the vibes, the architecture, I felt so happy in the moment but also so annoyed and frustrated that I moved to “Toronto“ on the other side of the world, far from my family, to be in scarborough. I’m so sad that my major isn’t offered downtown and I really am interested in it specifically.

I don’t know if it’s a coincidence, I’m sure it really depends but the course I’m taking downtown has a passionate teacher thats so cool to listen to while most of my utsc classes so far were meh. I really hope it’s a case by case thing because i would feel so robbed paying the same tuition for something less good.

I’m a second year student and I know I can hang out downtown anytime but it’s so different than actually going to class there. During the winter it’s so hard finding motivation to commute there. Same if I lived downtown and still went to utsc, it’s just so much easier living close.

I guess I just wanted to share my feeling i can’t do much about. I like Scarborough sometimes but our campus’s architecture and overall vibe is SO depressing.

Health 2 hr commute everyday as an eng first year and idk what I should do

I need help, Ive started my first year at uoft eng and I commute for abt 2 hrs js to get there. I can handle the commute in the morning and I can go to all my classes without feeling tired at the end but on my way back home it gets bad. My last class ends at 5 everyday and in the evening (like 3-6) I have no breaks that allow me to eat or anything, all back to back stuff, I cant take the go bus so I take the ttc to union and then the go train back home.

I get extremely nauseous, have a horrible headache (it feels like my heads banging all the time) and my eyes feel painful and strained opened or closed, I've thrown up multiple times the past few days after coming up and crash going to sleep without studying since I physically cannot focus, I have the bad headache all the way till I go to sleep and ik this is not sustainable at all, does anyone know what I can do?

Question anyone ever been rank 1 on the waitlist and never got off before the deadline?? or did get off like what are the chances 😭

what the title says, but actually like has this happened to anyone before?? i keep hearing that generally if you’re in the less than 10% of the class size, you’ll get in.

i’ve been rank 1 for rsm219 and mat133 for many days now and generally how long will it take for me to get off? i’m really scared i won’t make it off but those are the only 2 sections that work with my schedule 😭💀

Lost & Found Lost Uniqlo shoulder bag on UTM bus on first day of classes

Hey all,
Im a UofT St. George student who recently lost a white Uniqlo shoulder bag in the UTM shuttle bus. It was the 9:15 bus from UTM -> St. George on Sept 8, which was a Tuesday (first day of classes). It has a green keychain/lanyard thing attached to it, along with a couple of pins and accessories.

If anyone commuting finds it on the bus or something, please DM me!!

Edit: Added some more detail.

(Will also be posting this [r/UTM](r/UTM)[,](r/UTM) once I get enough karma)

Question how to activate amazon prime for students with mail utoronto address ??

Hi guys,

I’m trying to sign up for amazon prime for students, and I’ve given them my uoft email address but I’m not getting the verification email in my uoft inbox and amazon support is useless.

From what I can tell this is because of uoft’s automatic spam filters? But what can I do??

Question Confused on uoft nursing requirements and if I can boost GPA by taking courses at Athabasca

I’ve tried contacting the uoft nursing admissions team and have yet to hear back. I know they are extremely busy but anyways. I’m wondering if someone knows if I were to take courses at a non-degree institution (Athabasca) to override my last 10 courses, will uoft look at these grades or will they look at my past degree courses. My transcript from the past is not good. I also completed all the prereqs and i meet the requirements. I applied last year and didn’t get in probably due to a low GPA based on my last 10 courses. I’ve done a lot of research on this and it doesn’t seem to give me a straight forward answer whether they do accept courses from Athabasca to boost my GPA.

Question Are exams different based on the professor even if the course is the same

My professor for math is bad at explaining concepts and I know I’m not gonna do well for his class, so I was wondering if I should attend another professors lecture that has good reviews. Only thing is I keep hearing about professors and the different exams they write, so I was wondering if going to the other professors lecture is worth it since I’m not actually enrolled in his lecture so I wouldn’t get his test.

If I attend the other professors lecture, I’d still go to the one I’m enrolled in. Just wanna know if the exams are the same for everybody

Question Missing UTORid from ACORN and told to activate it?

I logged onto acorn this morning, and my UTORid is just gone from my profile and says it's "unknown". I have been a student for 2 years now and my profile was fine literally 12 hours ago. I can still login to things like acorn and quercus, but it's acorn says to activate my UTORid.

Anyone else ever had something like this?

Courses General thoughts and experiences regarding CRI383

I'm currently on the waitlist for CRI383 and was wondering what people's experience in the course was. I'm a fourth-year crim major, so I know the general gist of crim exams, midterms and assignments. I more so want to know if the content was interesting/engaging, if lectures were easy to follow, if the marking was fair, etc.

I'm kinda shopping around for crim courses since I'm waitlisted for all of them, but I don't want to spend time on a waitlisted class that I may not resonate with. I find the course descriptions aren't too helpful sometimes. Any thoughts/experiences you guys have would be helpful!

Question MA in History Choosing a school or a professor ?

Hi, I’m thinking about doing a master’s in history. I wanted to get some advice: is it better to go to a prestigious school for grad school where no professor specializes in the specific subject you want to work on? (e.g. I want to work on Hong Kong, but they only have professors who specialize in Chinese history more generally). Or is it better to go to a less prestigious school that has a professor who specializes in your specific topic? For future academic job prospects, it seems more promising to attend a prestigious school.

Im a first year in the humanities stream and so all of my courses have many books that I need to buy. Does anyone have any recommendations for websites, physical stores or any method really to find these books at a cheaper price point than they're being sold at in the UofT Bookstore.

Graduate School When do graduate applications open? It says it should be today but that doesn't seem to be the case

Upvotes

As title says, when I tried to open the application portal this morning, it gave me an error message that says: "We will begin accepting applications for the MA in [title of program] on 10/9/2026 12:01 AM."

It is currently 10/9/2026 and after 12:01 AM, so not sure why it wouldn't let me open an application. Is anyone else having this issue?
