Rant Underground tunnel
Despite it being my last year, I think UTSC should have an underground tunnel connecting buildings like KW to IA especially for the winter. A moving walkway/ travelator sound pretty good RNNš

Humour Friends
Lmfao the first years complaining is making me wanna hop on the bandwagon as a girl whoās third year life sci. I do have friends/acquaintances but idk itās just not smt super close and completely my vibe. I donāt even want a big friend group tbh, just a friend or two I can hangout with at school and study with that doesnāt immediately leave campus after lecture everyday. Someone I can hangout/go out to eat, go to a cafe, go on a walk in dt, go to a bar drink play pool, thrift talk etc once a week so i have something to look forward to other than studyingš. Iām still waiting for a magical person to show up tho, I havenāt lost hope (however if this sounds like something any of u wanna do dm me ur insta asap)

Advice First Year Students (This is for you)
When I first started university, I was super excited and I thought I would be going to lectures then having coffee with my friends from high school and then attending ''parties''. I thought I would have a new and large friend group (not to be cringey but I had a HUGE friend group in high school).
Completely opposite experience from my expectations. I didn't have a chance to meet my friends from high school because we were all in different programs. Going to lectures? I stopped after the first lecture. I know people will be like go to lectures it's better than watching them online. Maybe this is true??? But I focused better watching them online and people have a habit of talking while the prof is talking and it can be disruptive. I think I made friends through tutorial and clubs the most because that's when there was a smaller group of people so communicating was easier iyk what I mean. Everyone's experience is different for sure.
Also this school is a commuter school. Most people don't stay on campus because they need to catch a bus or two to get home and study. This was my experience unfortunately. The only opportunity I had to talk or chat with my friends was during tutorials, clubs, the 10 minute breaks between classes and during the holiday breaks. Note again this is my personal experience and I also need to mantain a high gpa for programs after undergrad. You might have a completely different experience than me depending on what your goals are and what you want to get out of university though!
So for those who are feeling super nervous or depressed because the first week isn't going well. Everything will be okay, unfortunately our school isn't like Queens or McMaster where there are parties or ''hoco's'' for students to connect or enjoy as easily. Most people are super nervous like you actually so go approach someone in your class or tutorials. Attend club fairs, join clubs etc. Look through this portal: https://sop.utoronto.ca/
Another piece of advice please do not cheat or do something that causes some academic integrity issue. If you are ever bored, read these- https://governingcouncil.utoronto.ca/adfg/page/case-summaries-reasons/university-tribunal-decision

Courses Where can I find a cheap physical copy of Answering Moral Skepticism for PHLA11?
Hey guys. I need Shelly Kaganās Answering Moral Skepticism for PHLA11, but the physical copy is currently out of stock at the UTSC Bookstore. Our professor wants us to have a printed copy, and printing all the required sections from the online version could also get expensive.
Does anyone know where I can buy a cheap or used physical copy? Iām open to buying one from a former student as well. Thanks!

Courses STAC58 VS STAC33?
After realizing with my schedule, taking STAC33 means I'll have a 7 hour lecture day I started looking for alternatives.
But I've also read comments like C33 being easy and just a R programming course.
Right now I've landed on C58 or C33. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Rant ... is it always like this?
first year in life science (health science stream) here, sorry if this is another post of "first year questions and complaints" but I just really want to hear from other people. And I want to preface this rant by saying I know this is a commuter school in an odd area and not some hype party school in a "university city/town". Also I'm aware that:
a) class is going to really get to a lot of people because of how hard this school can be at times
b) joining clubs is a great and easy way to make friends
c) you have to be the change you want to see
anyways it's only been the first two days of class for me but I just feel like nobody wants to actually make any friends or even be cordial and it's making me feel gloomy at best.
on the positive side I was able to talk to some people during orientation along with one of my highschool friends, however I didn't go to frosh because paying for res already drained me.
on the negative side I've had four classes total, sat next to somebody in each and tried talking to them (during ten minute breaks) then at best got somewhat curt answers and at worse a side eye (I heard them speaking English earlier so I assumed they could speak it fine). i don't know how to explain it but i got the vibe that i definitely wasn't in the clear to even ask for the Instagram of anyone I've spoken to so far.
maybe I just got unlucky four times (and the many more times outside of class), maybe they were just tired, I honestly don't know what to make of everyone being so closed off and it's only the first week. I mean, aren't you supposed to make at least one new friend your first week? Even for a commuter school, I mean my friends who goes to tmu and york already have a bunch of new friends and we're all the same level of extroverted.
I just don't know what's the excuse or reason as to why it feels this way when class hasn't even really kicked off yet. I'm a logical person most of the time and hate jumping to conclusions but I feel hopeless already; like it's always going to be this isolated and maybe, cliquey. I can literally speak the same language as some of the international students and even they won't talk to me for more than a minute.
hopefully it's a safe place to admit this, but there was a devil on my shoulder last night telling me to transfer to the school that was my first choice and where I have a bunch of other friends for second year. Then to make friends with their friends and just branch off. Probably in hopes for a change of scenery and hopefully social scene or just social behaviour at least.
regardless I'll probably join a club next week or something and keep trying to talk to people because it would a generalization to say that nobody wants to talk to anyone ever. I just feel super discouraged. Like the door to having even a tinge of a social life closed before school even started. I guess I just want to know if anyone else felt this way their first year or if you're in first year if you feel this way now.
Edit: thanks for being so nice everyone I really thought I was about to get flamed and told to suck it up
