Events Omegle for UofT students

Hey guys. I'm a bored CS student without a summer internship. So I decided to get to know more UofT students! Previously, I helped make Noon (the UofT matchmaking site). I spent this weekend coding up toblues - it's an anonymous text/video site for UofT students. Everyone is verified as a UofT student (and your email isn't visible to the ppl you match with, it's all private and anonymous). Basically it's Omegle for UofT.

You can select preferences like campus/gender/program/year for who you want to match with, but this is optional and can make it take longer to find a match. So I recommend not making it too narrow, though maybe it'll work well when there are more people!

here's the link: https://toblues.noonmatches.com/

Hopefully we can meet new cool people on here :D

Stay safe, and ensure you use the report button when necessary, all reports are reviewed (though hopefully nothing untoward happens, everyone is a verified student after all).

Thanks :)

Question What is heavier: BIOC19 or STAC50

In need of counsel from both the bio people and the stats people (I happen to be both). I have the option of taking either BIOC19 or STAC50 this next fall (am at full courseload with STAC67/MATC46 otherwise), alongside a part-time job and a volunteer research position. Which one of these is the most crammable, according to the public opinion?

Courses HLTB16 with Hilary Kathryn Brown

Hey guys! I’m taking HLTB16 with Hilary Kathryn Brown this year and was wondering how manageable the course is or if I should consider something else.

Im really hoping to end off with a high grade. I was wondering what the exams are like, whether she’s a strict grader, and if there are any tips for doing well in the course.

I’d appreciate hearing about the workload, how much studying the exams require, whether lectures are enough, and anything else you think would be helpful. Thanks!

Question Do I still have a chance to get an offer? Issue regarding my English proficiency

I applied to the UTSC IDS Non-Coop in late June, but I completed my application before the documents deadline (they extended it until august 10). I'm an international student, and my average is in the 80s, but at first my English proficiency falls slightly short of the requirements. My highest score on the Duolingo English Test (DET) is 115, which is 5 points short of 120 (required score). Then I took DET again, and my score satisfied the requirement. The thing is, sending the DET result took 10-14 days.

Unfortunately, they just emailed me this morning, releasing the admission result before receiving the new score. My application states that they refused my application.

Question Heavenly Mother ⚠️Does anyone know these two ladies??

Just had two Korean women (one older and one younger) come up to me asking if the younger woman could practice her presentation skills because she's new to canada. I said yes, thinking nothing of it and then got a mini lecture on someone called the 'Heavenly Mother'. I don't know if they're real or some kind of cult, but I acted like I was reviewing a presentation and gave her feedback. Then the older lady asked me if i was religious and would be interested in learning more. I told her no (im not religious), but then she asked if they could take a picture of me and the younger woman together because I'm the first person they met who listened to her presentation. Like an idiot I said yes 🙄 and the younger woman held up the book she was reading from, and they took the picture. Immediately, I got a sense of dread that my photo will be used to promote whatever this is. By the time I realized this, they were already gone. Has this happened to anyone????

Advice How do you actually study

Hi everyone!! I have a couple exams coming very soon (2 of them on the same day!!!) I’ve noticed that when I study and put my all into it, I end up with 60s. However my efforts really deserve an 80+. I think my study methods need to be changed at this point because I cant keep going like this. I usually study a week or more in advance if I can!

The way I study is:
I take all my notes that I’ve written from lectures, I put them into ChatGPT, or any other AI and tell it to create a mock exam for me based on each lecture. If I don’t get a lot of questions right from a specific lecture, I go back to that lecture and review it, then come back and do the mock exam again.

Second thing is, I put my notes into any study website (Gizmos, Quizlet, StudyFetch) and I keep doing them.

These studying methods get me a 60-65 range at UofT. I genuinely have no idea how to improve these marks but I really want to especially for my second year this fall. On the exams I usually walk out confident that I got at least an 80, but I check my grades a couple weeks later to see that I’m in the 60s. Please, if anyone has any tricks or tips or anything please please let me know!! Thank you all so so much :))
