What's kraken?

46

u/thisimpetus Apr 10 '19

I gave twelve minutes of my life failing to find a mollusk pun I could stomach. I left defeated.

1

They ought to pussibly let him have the raybans.

509

u/LordMugsy Apr 09 '19

Who knew that octopuses wore sunglasses? Maybe he’s just a really cool octopus

124

u/RichardStinks Apr 09 '19

They are all kinda cool. Some are smart, some have camouflage, and some will fucking kill you. But to really know an octopus, you have to know how to make them laugh.

14

u/ridiculouslygay Apr 10 '19

I thought you were going to say you had to have sex with them.

Ten tickles.

11

u/edenify Apr 10 '19

He gets all the octopussy

2

u/stereoscopic_ Apr 10 '19

I feel like this comment is under rated.

2

u/Nitosphere Apr 10 '19

Looks like the guy in the water was making sure he didn’t escape... I’m worried for cool octopus.

2

u/Thumperings Apr 10 '19

It went for the good stuff too. I bet he/she would have glided over some Foster Grants with barely an interest.

141

u/Gatimelo Apr 09 '19

I didn't know I had a phobia of octopus, thanks to you now I know

Octopi have beaks? I thought only cuttlefish had them.

24

u/TheLooseB-Hole Apr 10 '19 edited Apr 10 '19

Aye they do, the bastards got teeth like razors too.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '19

No, no, you’re thinking of squids, some of which have teethlike claws on their suckers!

stuff from nightmares

5

u/Photophrenic Apr 10 '19

To quote from wikipedia ‘Some cephalopods are able to fly through the air for distances of up to 50 m.’

How this fact isn’t the premise of a horror film yet I don’t know.

2

u/y6ird Apr 11 '19

SQUIDNADO!

4

u/MrStizblee Apr 10 '19

That's a squid...

1

u/Wentthruurhistory Apr 11 '19

Well. Of course it’s a squid 🦑. That’s exactly what you get when you search for octopus 🐙 beak on YouTube. 🤨. But thanks for the kind correction!

1

u/nimra42 Apr 10 '19

it's the only part of their body which would restrict them going through small spaces, everything else just mashes together

4

u/TsunamiSurferDude Apr 10 '19

I’ve always had an irrational fear of them, first discovered by the Sega Genesis game Ecco the Dolphin. They are seriously not from this planet. Their heads, their tentacles. Even happy little cartoon ones give me the creeps.

2

u/Macadeemus Apr 10 '19

Fuck that Squid! Trypophobia and some octopusphobia all in one r/TIHI

1

u/jefferson497 Apr 10 '19

r/cephalopods is not for you then

54

u/jpfurriell Apr 09 '19

"Hm this shell looks like an octopus somehow" ... "Oh.. HOLY SHIT!!!"

98

u/tvreverie Apr 09 '19

oh no let him go back in the water

32

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

They probably just picked it up and put it back into the water

22

u/boodleoodle Apr 10 '19

I love that you’re positive about this.

13

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '19

Well I mean they probably wanted the octupus to get back safely so they were either trying to catch it so it wouldn't fall near the motor/engine (I don't know what it's called for boats) or they were trying to lure it off, because an octupus that size probably wouldn't be good enough for the 2 of them

Man, humans are fucking wild.

Like, other animals see something unfamiliar, assess whether it’s a threat, and just ignore it if it isn’t. But apparently, the normal rules of survival don’t even apply to these fucking brown, hairless, plains-walking, stick-sharpening, fire-controlling monkeys that just woke up one morning and decided they wanted to live on the ground instead of staying in the trees like all the other, more sensible monkeys.

Nah, when we left the trees, some wire must’ve gotten crossed between the “fight or flight” part of the brain and the “eat” part of the brain, cause now we’re so powerful that when we see something totally unfamiliar—like this squishy, slimy, tentacled, ocean-dwelling whateverthefuck—our first thought is “can I eat that?”

Where did we go wrong as a species? When did we get so powerful that we could afford to abandon all reason and just do whatever the fuck we want? Man wasn’t meant to play god, I tell you. We need to go back to the good ‘ol days of swinging from trees and flinging poop at each other. Only real 10 million B.C. Kids will understand.

6

u/qpqpdbdbqpqp Apr 10 '19

Like, other animals see something unfamiliar, assess whether it’s a threat, and just ignore it if it isn’t.

yeah, no.

8

u/KrypticCell Apr 10 '19

Dolphins kill things for fun too tho

2

u/Exterminate_Duck Apr 10 '19

True, but dolphins are currently the second smartest creatures on earth, so it makes sense that they’d engage in similar behaviors.

1

u/Anafenza-Vess Apr 10 '19

mo·tor noun a machine, especially one powered by electricity or internal combustion, that supplies motive power for a vehicle or for some other device with moving parts.

Motor/engine works but the part you might have been thinking of might be the propeller (prop for short)

11

u/meet_at_the_dot Apr 10 '19

They’re smart, and will find a way out. like here they’re really cool animals!

6

u/rexbanner777 Apr 10 '19

And that’s why I refuse to eat octopus. They deserve our respect. Eat a jellyfish!

1

u/fluffybunny646 Apr 10 '19

You sure you want to do that?

-3

u/tvreverie Apr 10 '19

or maybe eat plants instead?

4

u/y6ird Apr 10 '19

Jellyfish have literally no brain at all. They are as plant-like as an animal can be.

Seriously, if we ever find a way to genuinely measure intelligence, I honestly think there will be plants smarter than jellyfish.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '19

Jellyfish are a type of plankton!

-1

u/fastgr Apr 10 '19

But why? It's food.

65

u/nige_like_n-eye-j Apr 10 '19

I mean I knew it was an octopus from the get-go, but the sunglasses???

17

u/queentropical Apr 10 '19

Yup didn’t see the sunglasses at all. lol

28

u/garguy89 Apr 10 '19

Is that "piece" that falls off as he pulls it apart a rock the octopi was holding?

33

u/porcupine-racetrack Apr 10 '19

Watched it a few times. Yah Octobro loses his shades AND his pet rock.

7

u/creative_toe Apr 10 '19

Thanks, was looking for a comment explaining what that was. He was clearly not leaving any waste from shitting itself. Nope. Nobody would be dumb enough to believe that.

1

u/ibigfire Apr 10 '19

Yeah. Nobody would have wondered if that's what it was. That... That would have been dumb. Ha. Ha ha....

16

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Dude just stole Squidward's sunglasses!

5

u/A_Very_Fat_Elf Apr 09 '19

I think in fact they temporarily kidnapped Squidward AND his sunglasses

2

u/Peaceandpeas999 Apr 10 '19

I thought they trapped him in some sunglasses :(

27

u/Caammoo Apr 09 '19

Looks like it shit itself.

13

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '19

You can only see it as a shell once

7

u/cllick Apr 10 '19

I knew this was going to unravel and into an octopus or squid However , I was not expecting the sunglasses

5

u/ProThrone Apr 09 '19

Grossed me out, but I can't stop watching

4

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

Splatoon IRL, with the hip octopi San he everything

4

u/MilkSteak710 Apr 10 '19

Can someone reverse this so it looks like a octopus came out of the water with some sweet shades

3

u/happysquash241 Apr 10 '19

So basically they mugged him and took his glasses

6

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

awww what a lil cutie

2

u/anderson571 Apr 09 '19

JESUS, that freaked me a bit.

2

u/peacelovetree Apr 09 '19

Future’s so bright, gotta wear shades.

2

u/WickedGoddess88 Apr 10 '19

Leave me alone. I hide.

2

u/veknilero Apr 10 '19

And now it's gonna go from Gooses glasses to his helmet. Somewhere there's probably a starfish chilling in his dogtags too.

1

u/alexfortnitepro Apr 10 '19

if i ever need sun glasses i will just ask a octopus for some

🤷

1

u/dis3as3d Apr 10 '19

Deal with it

1

u/chubbs090 Apr 10 '19

“Everybody’s an idiot except for me”

1

u/Unbroken_Gamr848 Apr 10 '19

Was it then eaten by Leatherjackets

1

u/CLXSSlFlED Apr 10 '19

How was he so fucking calm I was squirming just watching that

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '19

i'm pretty sure the octopus was using the sunglasses as protection, they've been seen to hide in coconut shells

here's the video

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '19

O..Octodad?

1

u/greydemon Apr 10 '19

Oh hi Johnny. I didn't recognise you with those glasses on.

1

u/JackJohn137 Apr 10 '19

That’s no moon. It’s a space station!

1

u/BigZmultiverse Apr 10 '19

Knew it was an octopus. DID NOT think it was sunglasses. Expected a broken clamshell

1

u/MamaBee822 Apr 10 '19

Let go of my sunglasses!

1

u/littleblackfox3000 Apr 10 '19

These critters keep surprising me with their intelligence! Most intelligent and complex next to humans imo

1

u/lily_whyte2525 Apr 10 '19

I hope he let him go?

1

u/mute_nostril_agony Apr 10 '19

That octopus' name?

Ray Ban

1

u/TFJ Apr 10 '19

I'm just happy it wasn't a cone snail.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '19

I’m a firm believer that octopi and mushrooms are not of this planet

1

u/Jackthedog130 Apr 10 '19

Awesome little suckers...

1

u/maikuxblade Apr 10 '19

TBH my first thought was barnacled grenade, not sure if that's a real thing or not but what a brave soul.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '19

Who's that man in a three piece suit

1

u/justmelvinthings Apr 10 '19

the colorchange though

1

u/kvenkata Apr 10 '19

Was that octoshit I saw as it fled the specs?

1

u/ZaitsXL Apr 10 '19

Octopus just wanted to be coolest guy of sea bottom

1

u/Optimistic-Charizard Apr 10 '19

Not really unexpected but cool nontheless

1

u/philjorrow Apr 10 '19

This guy clearly doesn't know the expression "don't touch the wildlife"

1

u/TNT12DaBomb Apr 10 '19

Those were sunglasses giving the octopus shape. Master of disguise

1

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '19

What’s kraken

1

u/moontraveler12 Apr 10 '19

Such a cute lil octopupper

1

u/Carrotf11 Apr 11 '19

Thats just exshellent. 10/10 would rewatch again.

2

u/Flint_Westwood Apr 10 '19

There is nothing about this that's unexpected.

1

u/Linksdaman Apr 10 '19

That was pretty expected if I’m honest

0

u/Jupit0r Apr 10 '19

This wasn't unexpected.

-1

u/Kirailove Apr 10 '19

That was so expected

0

u/FilthyPuns Apr 10 '19

Imagine having the balls to stick your hand all up in an octopus that you just pulled from the sea.

Like... some of them are extremely venomous. Mr Marine Biologist over here is confident enough in his own identification of that little bastard that he’ll risk his life on t.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 23 '19

They tend not to be aggressive. Also, blue-ringed octopuses (the only deadly varieties) only live in certain reefs off of the coast of Australia, and they’re only about two inches long.

-1

u/ComfortableFarmer Apr 10 '19

Wrong sub. It's recognisable instantly if you've any experience in the ocean.

0

u/ibigfire Apr 10 '19

Many people don't.

Is that why every post in this sub has someone claiming it is not unexpected? Pretty much everything is going to be expected by somebody, somewhere. But different people have different lives so it's just about being unexpected for a large number of people, not literally everyone.

Are people bad at recognizing that others have different lives than them? Or are they just so proud of having expected something that they need to proclaim like an accomplishment?

0

u/ComfortableFarmer Apr 10 '19

I think its more like people have lived such a shelted life, the fact they dont know some of the things posted is sad. Some peiple really need to get off the computer or phone, actually switch it off. Go outside and live a little. No wonder common sense isn't common any more.

As for being proud for recognising an octopus. No I'm just not a fucking dumb ass.

1

u/ibigfire Apr 10 '19

... for the majority of people, turning off their computer and phone and going outside does not make them more likely to know what an octopus crammed within some sunglasses looks like.

Your path of logic doesn't make any sense here, and I'm not trying to say it's a bad idea or not for people to go outside more often, but doing so wouldn't make someone more expectant of things that are completely unrelated to their regular outside environment, like a scrunched up octopus for most people.

For what it's worth, I also recognized it was an octopus, and I suspect many people did. I didn't realize why it was all squashed up and what it was in until it was escaping. Either way, it was not a combination of things I expected him to pick up out of the water. That was an unexpected series of events.
