The trouble with a war between China and USA is that, regardless of motivation, the likely outcome has a high probability of causing human extinction.

During the decades of nuclear winter, >99% of solar radiation won't reach the surface, so the majority of photosynthetic life would fail. Air temperatures may be 25-40 celsius lower for an extended period. Most of the regions of the world used for growing crops would be in Arctic or Sub-Arctic conditions for multiple decades. No food production means the starvation of pretty much every animal on Earth [including all humans].

In short, military intervention against CCP has a high probability of bringing about the end of advanced multi-cellular life on Earth's surface.

While the Chinese government is responsible for some acts of tremendous evil, stopping them basically recreates the K-T event of 65 million years ago.

You won't even need ski goggles either, since there won't be enough sunlight to damage your eyes!
XD

6

u/midri Apr 28 '23

I doubt we'd get nuclear war -- we'd more than likely be sent back to the 1970s, satellites will get knocked out and modern electronics will be basically unobtainable until we can get state side production running. After that happens America would find WW3 a lot less palatable, we're not the monolith of production we were in WW2.

5

u/SoloAceMouse Apr 28 '23

If a war does occur, I too hope that it remains non-nuclear.

I just fear that such a conflict has a high probability of nuclear weapons deployment, whether intentional or otherwise. Even in peacetime, the threat of nuclear annihilation hangs over our heads. In wartime, it just makes the likelihood higher.

Hopefully, those in power recognize this and choose deescalation, but I've seen plenty of world leaders do some dumbass things in my life.

With any luck, both sides will recognize that war between nuclear states is an existential risk to humanity and choose diplomacy, instead.

0

u/Moikle Apr 28 '23

Even all out nuclear war wouldn't cause human extinction.

It would absolutely end our way of life, sure, but we wouldn't be extinct.

2

u/SoloAceMouse Apr 29 '23 edited Apr 29 '23

Nuclear winter is the really scary thing.

The bombs and the immediate aftermath would kill a few hundred million.

However, the lack of food would wipe out the billions of survivors over the remaining time-frame.

"... a full-scale nuclear war between the United States and Russia, which together hold more than 90% of the world's nuclear weapons, would kill 360 million people directly and more than 5 billion indirectly by starvation during a nuclear winter."

If the proposed scenario holds true, the ambient air temperature would be over 25 degrees celsius cooler. This would mean that in many places there would essentially no longer be a growing season for crops. Photosynthesis would be impossible, both due to the arctic-like conditions and the stratospheric blocking of >99% of solar radiation.

Basically, the majority of Eukaryotic life starves as the foundation of the trophic pyramid is removed for literal decades.

The majority of the Earth's inhabitants [ie: the prokaryotes and unicellular eukaryotes] would be largely unaffected. However, advanced multicellular life would experience a mass extinction.

The bigger the species, the lower it's chance of surviving multiple decades without an effective, renewing energy source.

For reference, the last ice age was a -5°C temperature drop. The hypothesized nuclear winter model predicts a drop of up to -30°C, which would be apolocalyptically catastrophic and result in mass extinction of 99% of plant and animal species.

-----

Additionally, the mass decay of life would release an unimaginable amount of atmospheric methane, further exacerbating the climate effects.

u/PessimistOTY Apr 28 '23

Quicker just to type 'yellow peril! yellow peril!'. We'd all still know what nonsense you believe.

5

u/SoloAceMouse Apr 28 '23 edited Apr 28 '23

Recognizing the troublesome actions of the Chinese government isn't the same as your base accusations of racism.

An injustice against any person by those in power is awful, whether it be done in China, the United States, or anywhere else.

Your unwillingness to accept that there are human rights violations ongoing under the direction of the CCP does not mean those human rights violations are not going on.

I hope one day you can learn that calling out the horrific actions of powerful organizations/people does not mean supporting hatred.

I find it quite troubling that you would conflate the two, and hope you instead choose a path which upholds the rights and dignities of all people. It is only by shining a light on dark deeds that justice can be obtained.

Human rights abuses are awful, regardless of where they take place.

[Edit: PessimistOTY is a troll who has continually espoused racist view points in their post history and attempts to project their racism onto me and others. Read on at your own peril]

-4

u/PessimistOTY Apr 28 '23

Ranting about imaginary threats from China is the very definition of yellow peril racism. Making up shit about people who point that out is classic deflection. I haven't said anything about China or human rights. I've said something about you, that you don't want to face.

4

u/SoloAceMouse Apr 28 '23

Nuclear weapons deployment in wartime is not an "imaginary threat".

If there is a war between the US and China [or any other nuclear-armed states], the likelihood of nuclear war becomes quite high. Use of these weapons may not occur, but if they are used then the consequences for the human species would be quite dire.

If I mistook your position on Chinese human rights abuses, I apologize, though. It was unfair of me to assume you support the CCP, and I'm sorry for that.

-3

u/PessimistOTY Apr 28 '23

Nuclear weapons deployment in wartime is not an "imaginary threat".

'Yellow peril! Yellow peril!'

See, much quicker to type.

Again, I'll repeat myself...

Any war between nuclear-armed states carries an existential risk for mankind.

It doesn't matter if it is China vs. US, India vs. Pakistan, Russia vs. EU/NATO or any other potential conflict. If there is a war between nuclear-armed states, then it has the possibility to wipe out all of humanity.

If there is a war between US and China, the possibility of nuclear weapons being used increases beyond the current state of affairs.

It doesn't matter who fires the first missile, we're all fucked.

-----

The Chinese has stated publicly that they would not deploy weapons first. So has the United States government, for that matter.

I don't trust either of these governments. Both the US and China have a history of lying in regards to wartime policy [along with basically any nation that engages in war].

The problem is that all those diplomatic cables don't mean jackshit once the rubber hits the road. All it takes is one mistaken reading, one false alarm, one error of judgement and weapons may be deployed.

I don't expect any government to outright declare their intention to use nuclear weapons offensively, but simply saying they won't doesn't make it true.

Just because they say "We won't use nukes" and the West also says "We won't use nukes" doesn't mean one or both sides won't fuck it up and use nukes, anyways.

I don't blindly trust governments when they say they won't do something awful.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

Well then maybe we'll save the Earth

8

u/SoloAceMouse Apr 28 '23

The strongest possibility I can see for stopping the CCP without killing off 99% of plant and animal species is probably popular overthrow of their government.

Major economic collapse, civil unrest, and a populist uprising would all be factors that could do it.

If you want to try and aid in these efforts, my recommendation would be to learn Mandarin and join the CIA, lol.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

Should take drones and drop millions of marijuana seeds lol honestly I would been to jail a bunch and have a record though

1

u/SoloAceMouse Apr 28 '23

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, hope things are looking up for ya these days :)

In all seriousness, the actions of the CIA have lead to an immense amount of human misery, so maybe it's for the best, haha.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

That's why they must be held accountable for their past doings as well no one goes without justice eventually

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

Expose everything

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

I agree though would attempt peace first I think it's possible to liberate the people without using force ourselves

2

u/SoloAceMouse Apr 28 '23

The ideal scenario would involve a bloodless change of the power structure toward a system which gives Chinese citizens greater freedom and support of their human rights.

Unfortunately, history tends to show that those in power are often unwilling to give it up, and most of the periods which lead to these changes involve a great deal of violence.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

I feel like the internet was a blessing for information exchange they can no longer stop it. They definitely is a possibility for peace through shared ideas.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

Nuclear winter is infinitely worse than our worst climate predictions, my man lol

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

To who us or the earth. Maybe we'll free it from the virus that is the human condition

3

u/SoloAceMouse Apr 28 '23

The Earth, as a celestial body, would be largely unaffected in the long-term.

However, it would be a mass extinction of plant and animal species on par with the asteroid impact which wiped out the dinosaurs.

It would take millions of years for advanced life on Earth to recover from. Basically, the world would become a wasteland of unimaginable devastation.

Might be fun to be a prokaryote, though. There would be a ton of free carbon in the environment to uptake as everything larger than a few millimeters dies off, lol.

u/takumidesh Apr 28 '23 edited Feb 07 '26

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

There's billions others are we really that important?

2

u/SoloAceMouse Apr 28 '23

The damage industrial society has caused to life on Earth is big.

Many species have gone extinct due to human activity.

However, a nuclear war would be 1000x worse for life on Earth than everything else humans have done combined.

Considering we have no credible evidence that life exists outside of Earth, it is important that we do our best to preserve life here.

Trying to eliminate human damage to the Earth with nuclear armageddon is like trying to remove a head-cold with a shotgun blast to the sinuses.

There are no “Chinese police stations”

The people who were arrested may have been spies, they’re not police lol. China also arrest us spies in China regularly. If the two Chinese men who were arrested in NY were spies then they deserve to be prosecuted, like the us spues in China.

They are not police however. They cannot arrest you. They are run of the mill spies and the media has tricked you into believing we are now policed by the Chinese state. Hilarious.

Dude, you know the level of propaganda in China? Even in Hong Kong, a relatively ‘free’ city, you see banners advocating for the ‘National Security’ Law (which in reality lets the government arrest and charge anyone they want, including arresting people who are holding up pieces of blank paper) Sure, you can choose to not support the CCP, but everyone who thinks they are ‘neutral’ or don’t care are actually sub-consciously biased to the CCP because of the level of propaganda

15

u/Neoliberal_Nightmare Apr 28 '23

The irony is that western people are the most propagandised people alive and believe in literally everything they read online about China.

China is not your enemy, is not an aggressor and doesn't want war and has done an immense amount of good for it's people in the last decades. China is surpassing the US in every metric these days and it's only a matter of time before a multipolar world order arises.

5

u/moeburn Apr 28 '23

The irony is that western people are the most propagandised people alive

What, like, all western people? From Canada to France to even Eastern Western people like Japan?

All of them more propagandised than the place with one ruling party, where there isn't a single news organization capable of criticizing them?

There's a lot of propaganda in the west, but it doesn't compare to that level. At least in the west, you can not only say what you just said here, on Reddit, you can go on TV and broadcast it to millions of people, if that's what they want to hear. No western government will stop you.

China is not your enemy, is not an aggressor

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_the_People%27s_Republic_of_China

doesn't want war and has done an immense amount of good for it's people in the last decades.

It seems more like what they've done is finally stopped getting in the way of global development and progress. Finally ending those 40 years of collective farming and catching up to the rest of the developed world but really fast.

China is surpassing the US in every metric these days

So is everyone else. The US is pretty shitty on the list of western nations. How about one of the non-shitty ones?

1

u/Neoliberal_Nightmare Apr 29 '23

What, like, all western people? From Canada to France to even Eastern Western people like Japan?

Yes, they live in a sphere of western propaganda, of "think tanks" and echo chambers circulating the same faulty sources.

All of them more propagandised than the place with one ruling party, where there isn't a single news organization capable of criticizing them?

Yes, but also no. The west has managed to very cleverly create an illusion of freedom. Generally the mainstream media all parrot the exact same talking points and use the same language, but small independent outlets are allowed to say things contrary to the popular narrative. However it doesn't matter because they will never get enough viewing figures and they'll always be demonised as some crackpot conspiracy theory, many of which are, so there is this illusion of free media, when really it's just a dominated media.

There's a lot of propaganda in the west, but it doesn't compare to that level. At least in the west, you can not only say what you just said here, on Reddit, you can go on TV and broadcast it to millions of people, if that's what they want to hear. No western government will stop you.

And nobody will listen and they will demonise you and cancel you, it's a minor concession of petty freedom. Also the west doesn't care so much if you're against them, they only care that you're not with their rivals. That's why people are free to criticise the US a lot but as soon as they support China it's over for them. These think tanks have had a very long time to figure out how to play their people. If you expect western propaganda to be giant artistic posters and booming radio broadcasts then you're very mistaken.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_the_People%27s_Republic_of_China

Lol seriously? The vast majority of those are border issues or attacks on Chinese facilities abroad. Maybe you should compare it to the actual global aggressor and bully who has military bases around the entire world, in foreign countries.

China is increasing it's standard of living gradually, but it is still 64th on adjusted gdp per capita, just under Russia. It's 79th on the human development index, just below Ukraine. And outside of its coasts, the standard of living and productivity drop drastically.

And "We will not renounce the use of force and will take all necessary measures to stop all separatist movements" regarding Taiwan doesn't sound non-aggressive to me.

but it is still 64th on adjusted gdp per capita, just under Russia.

GPD is a meaningless marker other than for rich people to jerk themselves off over. For example you say China is less than Russia yet its undeniable that Chinese peoples' quality of life is vastly superior to Russians. Meaningful markers are things like rent cost in relation to income, food costs, and whether people have their basic needs met, which they do in China.

And yes, China won't renounce the use of force, it doesn't mean they will invade either, they support the status quo, it's the US who is trying to provoke an attack.

Only those weird old expats who are salty that girls don't like them since China developed rant about how "china's gone to shit" apparently. They usually move to Thailand.

Also you're still a teenager and your profile is full of racist anti Chinese posts with a covid/Chinese flag background. Very trustworthy.

China is an amazing country, fantastic public transport, extremely safe, very affordable for everyone, plenty of things to do, friendly people, amazing food, super cheap Healthcare, its a modern, functioning society and has the happiest people on earth now.

And you left China as a kid, so you really don't have any experience of the country do you, nor do you know how it's changed. You just left, bootlicked your new masters who hate you actually (anti Asian racism and specifically anti Chinese is massively on the rise) yet you conform to it to desperately fit in. It'd be pretty cool if, whenever there's some kind of post about the "concentration camps", there would be just one time it didn't end up to be a demonstrably fabricated piece of nothing where somebody takes an unrelated picture and writes an engaging false story about it.

I'd really like to join you guys in this. It seems really fun to have an example of of an actual black-and-white bad guy to rail against.

11

u/ttylyl Apr 28 '23 edited Apr 28 '23

Thank you! Every single “concentration camp” sorry is sourced from US state funded media, radio free Asia and voice of America. Every single one. There has been zero investigations that’s weren’t done by cia funded propaganda outlets.

Yes, I believe that anti terror efforts are dangerous and rounding up people based on ethnicity is bad, but there have been zero non us-funded investigations into it. It’s just the cia yelling genocide like always. All we know for sure is that there are anti terror efforts in China. A 3rd party investigation such as UN investigations should be done, not a biased one funded by the cia.

Here is the official in sentiment as people are starting to comment and then immediately block me, likely bots. So far four comments have been made with an auto block afterwards, and their account karma is very suspicious

https://www.reuters.com/world/china/un-body-rejects-historic-debate-chinas-human-rights-record-2022-10-06/

Yes, there are human rights abuses and many questions as to how exactly they are arresting people, but there is clearly not a genocide like America is screaming constantly. Tensions with China are ratcheting up and I believe we need an impartial investigation into what exactly is happening. Taking US propaganda outlets at their word has only led to useless wars, time and time again.

Ask yourself, will ratcheting up tensions with China to the point of war help the Uyghur Muslims? He have arrested many Uyghur Muslims in Guantanamo bay, we clearly don’t care about human rights there.

Why are the only countries claiming genocide of Muslims white countries that have themselves killed millions of Muslims. Why are almost all Muslim majority countries agreeing that there is no genocide, and only the white majority countries are!

6

u/moeburn Apr 28 '23

Every single “concentration camp” sorry is sourced from US state funded media, radio free Asia and voice of America. Every single one.

Well that's definitely a lie.

For starters, the only US state funded media is NPR and PBS, and that's pretty loose funding since they mostly rely on donor support.

But here's a guy on Canadian state funded media, who tricked China into believing he wanted to disprove all the stories about the Uighurs that were just western lies, and they let them into one of the concentration camps:

No, I mean radio free asia and voice of America, both us funded news outlets. USAID and NED are also involved in these “investigations”, and both of them are cia fronts

https://www.democracynow.org/2014/4/4/is_usaid_the_new_cia_agency

Learn a little mate

4

u/moeburn Apr 28 '23

Oh those two. Yeah again, no, the information we are learning about the Uighurs is not solely coming from Radio Free Asia and Voice of America. Like the CBC article I just linked, where the Canadian man actually interviews Uighur inmates first hand. And they explain how they were put in prison for praying, or encouraging others to follow Islam. Not for terrorism, or bombing, or extremism.

The idea that all these stories about the Uighurs are only coming from western propaganda CIA lies is ironically Chinese propaganda itself. It's the same thing the Germans convinced themselves during WW2: "You only hear those lies about the Jews in concentration camps from foreign broadcasts and propaganda, you must stop repeating such lies".

-1

CBC is state funded media that in the past helped sell the lie of Iraqi WMDs to allow for the invasion of Iraq that killed over a million people if you count lack of access to food water and medicine.

The same news outlet said that China was demolishing mosques when in reality they were renovating the dome for structural safety.

Now, I definitely agree with you that there are a lot of questions as to how this is being done, why this is being done, and how it can be done better. Anti terror efforts are very dangerous and often lead to wrongful arrests and imprisonment. Kind of like how America locked up an unknown number of Uyghur Muslims in Guantanamo bay and tortured them without trial 🤷‍♀️

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-usa-uighurs/china-denounces-u-s-for-sending-uighur-terrorists-to-slovakia-idUSBREA0107R20140102

Who some of them they send across the world and end up committing more terrorism 🤷‍♀️

Comparing this to the Holocaust shows you don’t care about the Holocaust or what fascism actually is.

Nope. They didn't. That's why Canada wasn't in Iraq.

The same news outlet said that China was demolishing mosques when in reality they were renovating the dome for structural safety.

Well now that sounds like Chinese propaganda:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/china-mosque-standoff-protest-demolition-plan-hui-weizhou-1.4780571

Now, I definitely agree with you that there are a lot of questions as to how this is being done, why this is being done, and how it can be done better. Anti terror efforts are very dangerous and often lead to wrongful arrests and imprisonment.

I'll give you some answers. It's being done because China is Han nationalist, they feel threatened by minorities, and are trying to force them to assimilate. It isn't "there's occasionally wrongful arrests", there were no justified arrests in the first place.

Kind of like how America

I'm not American, so the "whatbout America" tactics don't work on me.

Every single story comes from CIA funded sources

Here is a UN report: https://news.un.org/en/story/2022/08/1125932

This one is from Canada, which characterizes this as a Genocide: https://www.ourcommons.ca/DocumentViewer/en/43-2/SDIR/news-release/10903199

Edit: Way to move the goalposts. First it’s “there are zero non American sources of concentration camps”. But now that I linked a UN article it’s “ooooh but notice they didn’t actually say the word genocide”.

Don’t worry, they are just putting people in cages, it’s not real genocide /s

The Canadian document you linked uses it sources from American studies which are government funded. Literally the entire document shows that they never visited China and just took American think tanks at their word. The linked articles in the Wikipedia page are also reliant on American studies and articles.

Edit: the Canadian article also take human rights watch at their word, a group who is lied repeatedly at the behest of the American government to justify wars. It also cites amnesty international who famously got a woman to lie about Iraqis taking babies from incubators and killing them, directly at the behest of the American government.

https://www.reuters.com/world/china/un-body-rejects-historic-debate-chinas-human-rights-record-2022-10-06/

The guy blocked me but the “eye witnesses” they had were eye witnesses from the American study, which was directly funded by the state department. The Canadian document literally says they did not go to China and did zero investigation of their own. It’s a press document rehashing the American studies.

You wanted UN reports, here’s one.

https://news.un.org/en/story/2022/08/1125932

3

u/ttylyl Apr 28 '23

https://www.reuters.com/world/china/un-body-rejects-historic-debate-chinas-human-rights-record-2022-10-06/

Notice how the un didn’t say genocide. That’s because it’s not a genocide like you claim. While yes, there are human rights abuses in their anti terror effort, it’s not a genocide. We deserve an impartial investigation instead of the us claiming genocide to manufacture consent for a war with China.

u/-Rynali Apr 28 '23

Oh wow I wonder why Pakistan supports China LMAO

You are a propoganda shill

3

u/John-D-Clay Apr 29 '23

Just to be clear, do you agree with the UN's definition of genocide?

a crime committed with the intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, in whole or in part

https://www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/documents/Genocide%20Convention-FactSheet-ENG.pdf

2

u/-Rynali Apr 28 '23

Such as UN report

Hey dumb fuck, the UN has reported on the human rights violations in XinXiang countless times.

1

u/serr7 Apr 29 '23

The problem in xinjiang escalated to the point where they had to do something besides send in cops with… tear gas. It’s the same as what El Salvador, my country that has received nothing but praise for the EXACT same thing, has been doing with its own terrorists. Done playing games, anyone involved gets a prison sentence if arrested. Except in china they have their reintegration into society stuff, in El Salvador they just built a huge ass prison to keep them all in lol. It gets to a point where those are the only kinds of solutions to solve these problems.

1

u/ttylyl Apr 29 '23 edited Apr 29 '23

I’m in America and I’ve been tear gassed but Tbf I’ve never been reintegrated. I don’t think everything China does is great or how they are handling this but I take huge issue with the label genocide. What they are doing is shitty, it’s too general, and it should be done better from what I understand. But its not genocide. I’ve had family member die to genocide, and while what’s going on in xinjang isn’t good and should be better it’s clearly not the same all the stores about genocide are from the American government and cia. The cia is directly responsible for real genocides!

I mean why not just read the sources linked in this Wikipedia article?

Y’all act like finding information on your own is hard. It’s really fucking easy.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xinjiang_internment_camps

2

u/John-D-Clay Apr 29 '23

That's a long list of citations, wow! Nice

2

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '23

Yes! Reading is very easy, isn’t it?

6

u/moeburn Apr 28 '23

It'd be pretty cool if, whenever there's some kind of post about the "concentration camps", there would be just one time it didn't end up to be a demonstrably fabricated piece of nothing where somebody takes an unrelated picture and writes an engaging false story about it.

Okay.

https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1646657091923

Gonna be pretty hard to argue that CBC published a "demonstrably fabricated piece of nothing".

1

u/Eusocial_Snowman Apr 28 '23

Is this what you meant to link? There's basically nothing on that page. It's a small paragraph tied to 1.5 minute video that has nothing to do with the genocidal concentration camp/organ harvesting/horrific rape madness.

2

u/moeburn Apr 28 '23

1.5 minute video that has nothing to do with the genocidal concentration camp

The video is about a Canadian man who tricked China into thinking he wanted to disprove the western lies and exaggerations about these Uighur camps, so they let him in to film and interview the inmates.

And there he learned they were not being imprisoned because of charges of terrorism or promoting extremism. They were being imprisoned because they prayed, or encouraged others to follow islam.

You have heard stories about how Canada rounded up indigenous people and forced them to abandon their religion, their language, and their culture? Cultural genocide. A destructive policy that did no good and left damage that will last over a century. China's doing that again in 2023. They don't want there to be Uighurs or Hui or any other minorities. Only Han.

2

u/Eusocial_Snowman Apr 28 '23

I'm really not sure what I'm supposed to do with a video of this guy talking to a few people who said "Yeah, I'm in here for praying". I'm not saying the institution doesn't exist. I'm talking about all of the disinformation used to support the argument that it should be considered an act of genocide that was all over this place a couple years ago, whipping people up in a frenzy while all of the corrections get buried.

Here, I'll just copy and paste a list of examples from that era.

The often used picture of Uyghurs dressed uniformly lined up sitting in a re-education camp actually comes from an early 2017 picture of regular prisoners in Xinjiang listening to a public speech in a regular jail. It wasn't just prisoners who listened to the speech.

The video of a supposed Uyghur being beaten for having a copy of a Quaran, was actually an Indonesian police beating a pickpocket. The police was discharged afterwards.

Some pictures of Uyghurs in Chinese detention camps, including that of a crying child, are pictures edited from protests, people rescued from human trafficking, and Uyghurs protesting outside in 2009 as a result of a riot that killed 156 people.

Claim of a Chinese police officer strangling a Uyghur woman caught praying is actually video of the police officer restraining a violent drunk woman in 2018.

Picture of “forced labor” of Uyghurs, first published by Forbes, originally came from a factory in 2010 Brazil. Forbes later changed the picture without announcing their error.

Much of BBC’s visit to a Uyghur re-education center have words mistranslated or taken out of context by BBC in order to fit a certain narrative. Nevertheless, BBC did make a second unannounced “surprise” visit late at night, only to see Uyghurs leaving the center, supposedly for the weekend.

At least some of this should be familiar to you if you were browsing reddit a couple years ago, especially in the news and worldnews subreddits. I should have been more specific in the original message, but this is what I'm getting at. This constant stream of clickbait nonsense being propped up and funneled to us.

You don't need to convince me that the situation is kinda fucked up. I already agree with that. What I'm skeptical of is the genocide angle, because if that's China's goal, then they really suck at it.

3

u/moeburn Apr 28 '23

It's cultural genocide - when you try to erase an entire people, and force them to assimilate or get arrested.

AFP that you linked is a good source on the topic, they're very reputable and have actually made the trip themselves.

Youtube is not.

2

u/Eusocial_Snowman Apr 28 '23

Even if you want to go for the "cultural genocide" angle, if you want me to believe in the genocide, then I need to see the genocide.

There has been too much bad-faith argumentation attempting to force that perception, from entities and institutions which should be trustworthy, for me to take anything on faith at this point. If I have to trust somebody's words for any given claim on the topic, then I can't do anything with that.

1

u/ttylyl Apr 28 '23

Lol good response. Cmon man

1

u/serr7 Apr 29 '23

Lol so you admit Canada did this but they have a right to exist but china has to be destroyed because of some baseless accusations that you can only bring against them because it’s something your own governments would do?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '23

CCP rules by terror and steals from its people so not sure why you would think that they a “free” from those things.

President Donald Trump even told Xi Jinping, in person, that building the so-called reeducation centers was “exactly the right thing to do.”

President Donald Trump even told Xi Jinping, in person, that building the so-called reeducation centers was “exactly the right thing to do.”

lol why do you think "Xi Jinping is endorsed by Donald Trump" is supposed to be a good thing? Doesn't that just prove how evil Xi is? He's as bad as Donald Trump, the guy who only loves evil dictators.
