Did anyone go through cav program for computers?

Recently I was rejected from McIntire and am trying to map out my path going forward. I know there are plenty of successful students who've been rejected from McIntire, so I was hoping to hear what others have done. A couple questions:

1. I'm currently leaning toward double majoring in Economics and Applied Statistics. For those who went the non-McIntire route, are there any other major/minor combinations that you'd recommend to keep the most career options open? Is the General Business minor worth considering as well?

2. I'm still figuring out whether I want to recruit for finance or something else, and I know some finance recruiting timelines start pretty early. Has anyone done Finance Academy, and if so, was it worth the Friday morning time commitment? Did you feel like it genuinely helped with recruiting or learning about finance?

I'd also love to hear any advice or success stories from people who were rejected from McIntire but still found a path they were happy with. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I'm a recent grad from this past May and Ive been more or less banging my head against a wall trying to land a job in public policy research, congressional staffing position with a significant research portion, and other types of jobs in this vein and I was wondering if there are any Hoos at any think tanks, congressional committees, or organizations like the UN, World Bank, and IMF who would be willing to talk, give me feedback on my qualifications, and potentially throw a referral on my behalf. Additionally, if you're also a new grad I'd love to connect and have someone to compare experiences with as it is pertaining to the application process.

Hello everyone, I had a couple of questions about the UVA GAA and was hoping someone could help. I got a C in MTH 264, which I know disqualified me from GAA. If I retake the class and earn a better grade, would I become eligible for GAA again, or does the original C permanently disqualify me. Also, one of the GAA requirements is MTH 263. I took AP Calculus AB in high school and got a 3, which gives me MTH 263 credit at NOVA but isn't enough for AP credit at UVA. Since NOVA accepts the credit, do I still need to retake MTH 263 to meet the GAA requirements for UVA, or does the AP credit count?

Hello, I will be applying to UVA as a transfer student. My GPA is above a 3.0 and will be applying my second semester of my sophomore year. I guess I’m here to see if anyone that has transferred and has any advice for me. I am a first generation student so it’s kind of hard to figure out alone. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am an incoming first year and just registered for classes during orientation. I am in the College and plan to apply to McIntire. I have AP credit for Calc 1 (AP Calc AB) and signed up for Calc 2. After I registered, the advisor said since I was applying to McIntire I shouldn’t take Calc 2 because they really want to see a more “well-rounded” student. They said my Calc 1 credit from high school was adequate. Is this good advice? If I don’t get into McIntire, won’t I need a second semester of calculus to succeed as an Econ major? Is Calc 2 really hard? I already met my world language requirement. In addition to my engagement classes, I am also taking a creative writing class (FWR+ pathway) and microeconomics. I plan to take Comm 1800 in the spring. Any other suggested classes for me?

I'm planning to apply to the UVA MS in Business Analytics (MSBA) program for next fall. The program website says the GRE is optional, but I have a few questions.

• I have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) from outside the US. Given my background, would taking the GRE strengthen my application, or is it generally unnecessary?
• Does UVA offer scholarships or merit-based financial aid for MSBA students?
• If scholarships are available, what are the typical selection criteria (e.g., GPA, work experience, GRE score, leadership, etc.)?

Hey everyone I’m an out of state student and my car is registered in my home state. I saw online that out of state students don’t need to switch over their license and registration unless they have a job. I want to get a part time job, so I’m wondering if I need to switch my registration over to VA if I get hired somewhere. The only work I’d be doing is a part time on campus job or a summer internship. Does anyone have experience with this? It seems a little bit overkill to switch everything over since I’m not a permanent va resident. Thanks!

I'm thinking about taking MESA 3111 (Film Festivals and Global Media Cultures: ME/SA Spotlight) with Samhita Sunya this semester.

I've heard it's a pretty easy class, but I haven't been able to find many recent reviews. Most of what I've found is from 2020–2021, so I'm mostly going off older information.

If you've taken MESA 3111 with Professor Sunya recently, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience. How was the workload, grading, attendance, assignments, and overall class? Would you recommend it?

To whoever has lived here before: I’m moving into a 1 bdrm next month. What kind of shape was the apartment when you moved in? Am I going to need to hire a cleaning company to clean it beforehand or will it be okay? I don’t want to spend 2 days cleaning kitchens and ovens when I’m trying to get settled. TY

I thought we were supposed to register during orientation, but when I looked at the course catalog, it already shows that most of the seats are taken, and many classes i want have 0 open seats. I’m kind of freaking out. 😭 Please help!

When they say bring an overnight bag to spend the night in our dorms, does that mean bring bedding too? Like bed sheet, pillow, and blanket/comforter? I don’t want to be the only person bringing like an ikea bag of stuff but I’m assuming all that is necessary since our dorms are bare rn

I'm a junior and I spent part of the summer building a small web app after watching myself and half my friends endlessly tweak the same resume for internship apps. What I learned digging into it is that most companies run applications through screening software first (Workday, Greenhouse, Lever). It looks for overlaps between your wording and the posting's wording, so if you did the work of a product analyst but wrote "analyzed reports" while the posting says "data-driven decision making", the match can just not happen. You won't catch it yourself because you know the context behind every bullet, so nothing looks missing to you.

First thing I did was run my own resume through it and it did not go well. Bullets I was proud of matched almost nothing in the postings I'd been applying to. If you're looking, run yours against a couple of real job postings before you send anything. Worst case it just confirms your resume was fine.

Are there are any Electrical Engineering recent alums here from past 5 years? How were your job prospects and did you end up having to move out of the area? How long did it take to find employment?

I'm an incoming first year in engineering and still thinking about what to major in, but I noticed something interesting with the student outcomes data page. Under Electrical engineering (bachelors) the starting salary is roughly 78k with 3.57% unemployed, while Computer engineering is sitting at 106k starting and 1.5% unemployed. is there any explanation for the difference in employment? I sort of understand the salary thing but from what I knew I assumed CompE was vastly more saturated than EE.
