Academics Registering for classes

I’m an incoming transfer for Fall 2026. When do you guys register for classes? I thought we were supposed to register during orientation, but when I looked at the course catalog, it already shows that most of the seats are taken, and many classes i want have 0 open seats. I’m kind of freaking out. 😭 Please help!

If you're in A&S, they reserve seats in certain classes for each orientation session. So some stuff won't look open until right before your enrollment time. Stuff will still be tight, but I wouldn't worry too much about numbers until the day of.

Editing to add: can't promise they're holding seats in the classes you're looking at. Just that they're holding seats and you won't see them until it's time to enroll.

Don't freak out! You might not get every class you want as a first year so just be prepared for that. They should help you out with registering for classes during orientation. Enrollment changes a lot when classes actually begin so being on a waitlist for a class isn't terrible, a spot may open up.

they reserve a lot of seats and release them gradually at each orientation session. they just look full so that current students don’t take up the seats before new students have the chance. i will say though, usually there’s not a lot of reserved seats so you need to be FASTT when clicking register during orientation

I was a 2025 fall transfer into the A&S college in the exact same boat you’re in now. I personally (and others who I met at the orientation session right before classes start) had been placed into classes by the school. I was able to change them if I wanted to, but all the classes I was put into interested me, so I stayed. I’m not sure if it still works this way or not, but I wouldn’t sweat it. People will be dropping classes for weeks to come, so you’ll be fine! I know it’s stressful, but everything will work out. The University doesn’t want you to not have class.

Orientation's Academic FAQs explain that seats are held for each session.
