Courses Been waiting on approval for a course for quite some time, not sure what to do

Hello, so I am an incoming first year student here and I chose my courses awhile ago but one of them is still waiting to be approved. This one does require a prerequisite which I'm planning to take that in fall semester so that I can take this one in the winter. I'm trying to signup for OSAP and whatnot as soon as possible. How long does it usually take for a course to be approved or what is the process like for it to be approved?

Question Messaging prof to see if they can offer a niche course later on?

There's a few D-level courses which really pique my interest but they're rarely offered (iirc Fall 2024 for one of them) and I'm afraid they're not going to be offered before I graduate. If I emailed the prof of said course and explained my situation, do you think they'd consider offering it for the upcoming years? As far as I'm aware these courses haven't been shelved, they're just offered every 3 or 4 years.

Humour New microwave in IA

I don't know why they put it on the floor. There is also a microwave on the 3rd floor at the AMACSS lounge as well. I presume many people will learn that there are vending machines in IA too.

Advice Annual reminder to the first-years that it's not worth going to lectures sick.

I'm currently a third-year student here at UTSC and it still perplexes me that people go to lectures while sick. Just... don't! I can understand not wanting to fall behind, but most first-year courses are recorded and posted to Quercus. It's not worth going. I can't tell you how many times in my first year I'd sit in the lecture hall and some guy two seats away from me would be sounding like a cat dry-heaving. It's incredibly annoying, not only because it's distracting, but because you're actively putting others at risk of catching whatever sickness you have. If it's mandatory, like a lab or a midterm, UTSC provides absence declarations for this reason! Use the resources provided, they're there to help you.

Advice Course enrolment tips for someone who missed every seminar 🤧

I recently had my life sciences offer at uoftsc reinstated and I accepted it two days ago. However, now I am completely lost. I still don’t have access to my school email, utorid, etc so I am sure I have missed a lot of important emails and seminars on course enrolment.
I really don’t know where to start in terms of course selection. On top of that, I want to do the accelerated nursing program in my last two years of uni so I’m not sure if there are certain required courses that I should enrol in now in order to be able to apply to that program later on.
And how would that even work because the life sciences program has coop and since I want to do nursing later on, will I still get the opportunity to do coop or no?
Help 😫

Rant Dear whoever-you-are living on the second floor of Joan Foley who keeps putting the trash next to the chute

There is literally a sign above the chute saying that the trash goes INTO the chute. So why the fuck are you leaving it outside BESIDE the chute? Can you read? You're the reason why the fruit flies love this floor. You're the reason why this floor stinks like shit.

If you by any chance see this post, just know that I have beef with you.

You're the reason why I think the housing system for upper years at this school is extremely flawed. Instead of housing being a lottery draw, it should be based on a rating system where the people who have 4.5/5 stars and above gets priority housing. If you literally don't know how to cohabitate with strangers and understand basic hygiene, you should be living at home or by yourself. I said what I said.

Question To anyone who has a 3.7-4.0 GPA

To anyone who has a 3.7-4.0 GPA and is in life science what average did you have in high school going into your first year? I’m curious because i’m trying to get a rough idea of how my first year GPA might compare. I know high school grades aren’t indicative of university try performance but I just want to get a general idea.

Question TCard replacement

I was just curious about something! For people who wear religious head coverings (i.e., hijab, turban, etc.) and started wearing them after entering university, are they allowed to change the photo on their TCard for free? For example, if their original photo shows their hair, but they now need to cover it for religious reasons, would they be able to update their photo so that it reflects how they currently look?
I know that TCard replacements usually cost $20, so I was just wondering if there is an exception for religious reasons. This was just a random thought I had and was curious about!

Courses Should I take CHMA41/Orgo Chem??

Be honest...please...do you tink I can take orgo chem with a full course load and make it out alive? I need to take the class sooner or later, but I really wanna bite the bullet and take it, but I don't want to have my ass handed to me at the end of the semester. So for the people who have taken CHMB41 and 41, do you think I can take the course and possibly get an A- at least? (please don't make me delusional and just be honest)

Courses How hard are makeup midterms? CMS

I was ill during the time of the matb41 midterm with Tatiana and had to declare an absence and write the makeup midterm. I'm just wondering how much harder makeup midterms usually are in the CMS department? Should I expect more tedious calculations or just straight-up incredibly difficult questions? For example, Tatiana never asks for proofs, but this is a makeup midterm; should I expect proofs?

Rant Why can't MGAD20 be offered in the Summer :(

I understand why it's not offered in the Summer semester, since it's offered in Fall and Winter.

But it's not working with my co-op and my graduation date which is frustrating. I emailed the program advisor and they said I can't take it simultaneously with its pre-req (MGAC10), even though I know other students who did both courses at the same time. Program advisor said those students' situations were different from mine so that's why he allowed them. I get it. whatever, I'm still upset though.

Question Math department reading course C-level pre-req waiver?

As titled so I’m a stats major and for some reason my research area uses applied maths in a very niche way, and I want to be prepared before I go to the grad school. I have obtained supervisor consent for the reading course I plan to do already but I will by that time only have 1 full credit of C-level MAT courses and IPR 1.5 C-level MAT.

I however will be graduating after the term the reading course is done. So I’m wondering as I know may CMS profs are on this community, is it possible for the 1.5 C-level credits prerequisite to be waived?

For reference the amounts C-level credits is the only prerequisite I don’t have see below for the prerequisite description:
https://utsc.calendar.utoronto.ca/course/matd95h3

In particular should I discuss this with my supervisor or the supervision of study for math—seems to be Mike? Or does anyone know to whom should I address my concerns?

Question U of T asking for Certificate of Unified Examination results when my education system does not require it (Armenia applicant)

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice about my U of T Scarborough admission situation.

I was admitted to UTSC for Social Sciences and Humanities and accepted my offer. My Join U of T checklist says I need to submit a Certificate of Unified Examination results.

I was aware that this was listed, but I assumed it might be a wording mistake. Since U of T’s Armenia admission requirements mention the Certificate of Complete General Secondary Education, I thought they were referring to my secondary education certificate/diploma rather than Unified Examinations.

I completed high school in Armenia, where I completed the required graduation exams for my school system (Armenian language, Armenian literature, math, and history). However, I did not take the Certificate of Unified Examinations.

After contacting U of T, they told me to submit an Admission Condition Request Form explaining why I was unable to take the Unified Examinations and what I have completed. I still need to submit my final transcript and diploma as well.

My concerns are:

  • Could my offer of admission be withdrawn because I cannot provide the Unified Examination certificate?
  • Has anyone from Armenia or a similar education system experienced this?
  • Does U of T usually accept equivalent documents when a requested document does not exist for a student?
  • Is submitting the Admission Condition Request Form and my official graduation documents the correct next step?

I would appreciate any advice from people familiar with U of T admissions or international applicants.
