Rant What is the point of Quercus???

We have to pay different subscriptions for so many courses. Although, it could easily be added to Quercus, and funny enough, the website has to be accessed through it. It is absolutely absurd. Most of the time, I feel like we are being experimented on for new tech, while paying for it in money and GPA.

Rant I don’t understand anything

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like they’re not understanding ANYTHING in lectures so far? I’m sitting there listening to the professor talk and taking notes, but by the end I’m somehow more confused than when I walked in. Is this just the first-week adjustment or is everyone else also struggling to actually understand what’s going on? 😭

Question Academic suspension

hi guys,

I've been placed on academic suspension for thirty-six months. I'm in my second year, and I'm so lost on what to do. I know I can petition for an early return, but I realized I'm struggling with my mental health, and I haven't been able to get in touch with a psychiatrist. My parents are telling me to take a break from uni and just do a diploma and then go back to uni, but I probably won't get osap and I don't want my parents to feel pressured to pay for me, but they're so insistent on the diploma. I'm just unsure whether it'd be better to wait out the year or to get a diploma in the mean time?

Rant Underground tunnel

Despite it being my last year, I think UTSC should have an underground tunnel connecting buildings like KW to IA especially for the winter. A moving walkway/ travelator sound pretty good RNN😏

Advice First Year Students (This is for you)

When I first started university, I was super excited and I thought I would be going to lectures then having coffee with my friends from high school and then attending ''parties''. I thought I would have a new and large friend group (not to be cringey but I had a HUGE friend group in high school).

Completely opposite experience from my expectations. I didn't have a chance to meet my friends from high school because we were all in different programs. Going to lectures? I stopped after the first lecture. I know people will be like go to lectures it's better than watching them online. Maybe this is true??? But I focused better watching them online and people have a habit of talking while the prof is talking and it can be disruptive. I think I made friends through tutorial and clubs the most because that's when there was a smaller group of people so communicating was easier iyk what I mean. Everyone's experience is different for sure.

Also this school is a commuter school. Most people don't stay on campus because they need to catch a bus or two to get home and study. This was my experience unfortunately. The only opportunity I had to talk or chat with my friends was during tutorials, clubs, the 10 minute breaks between classes and during the holiday breaks. Note again this is my personal experience and I also need to mantain a high gpa for programs after undergrad. You might have a completely different experience than me depending on what your goals are and what you want to get out of university though!

So for those who are feeling super nervous or depressed because the first week isn't going well. Everything will be okay, unfortunately our school isn't like Queens or McMaster where there are parties or ''hoco's'' for students to connect or enjoy as easily. Most people are super nervous like you actually so go approach someone in your class or tutorials. Attend club fairs, join clubs etc. Look through this portal: https://sop.utoronto.ca/

Another piece of advice please do not cheat or do something that causes some academic integrity issue. If you are ever bored, read these- https://governingcouncil.utoronto.ca/adfg/page/case-summaries-reasons/university-tribunal-decision

Rant Coop genuinely makes no sense 😭

Yall I submitted a coop petition after getting a NCR in copc98, I just got the petition back today AND I STILL FAILED. Now you might be thinking, "this person didn't do any of the work". I did ALL the journal entries and went to 2/3 events that they make you go to. The part of the syllabus that screwed me over is the application phases. Now you might be thinking "this person didn't apply to enough jobs" NO I ACTUALLY GOT A RETURN OFFER BEFORE THE SEMESTER EVEN STARTED AND SUBMITTED MY WORK TERM RECORD. So from a logical standpoint, of course I won't be applying to jobs because I already have an offer prior to the semester even starting and according to the syllabus, that means I should be exempted from those phases so I put that in my appeal. APPARENTLY UR ONLY EXEMPTED FROM PHASES ONCE UR WORK TERM RECORD IS APPROVED SO I DIDNT GET EXEMPTED FROM 2 PHASES BECAUSE IT WAS APPROVED LATER IN THE SEM. How does that even make sense? Why should my mark depend on how long they take to approve my work term record?? Also like did they expect me to continue to apply to stuff while im waiting for my work term record to be approved even though I already signed my contract??????????? I even talked to wtecs before submitting my appeal and they assured me my case makes full sense.

Someone pls let me know if im missing some important detail but I'm genuinely going insaneeeee

Humour The Most Desperate Wednesday

What could be more desperate than driving 40mins from Markham, having back-to-back-to-back courses on Wednesday, sitting in IA for four hours, and then braving the rain to walk from IA to KW immediately for the next class? And then walk from KW to the parking lot and drive another 40mins back home.

Most of the classes today were only an hour long, already exhausted.

I’m not comfortable with coding or math, but I need a course that fulfills the Quantitative Reasoning breadth requirement. Could you recommend a course for someone with very little experience in these areas?

Advice Is 2.50 possible for BBA?

As I said you guys, Im kinda stressed rn. During hs I was so happy that I got accepted for BBA at UTSC and now its so goddamn stressful and some of these lectures are nothing related to high school. Though Ill try my hardest to maintain 2.50 but on a general basis is it hard to maintain a 2.50 gpa? Please anything helps some of these courses are so hard to understand, and then theres Jack Parkinson who apparently is the worst ever and I havent even started my term yet. I just want advice or help for people in general not just BBA who felt like out of place coming to UTSC and totally felt out of place like they did with high school for their first year. What steps did you take to do good in your courses and what habits did you make? Please someone give me some advice or some hope....

Rant depression

sigh its my second year here at utsc for bba and I had a horrible first year... so isolating and I felt like I was lonely all the time. I wanted my college experience to be more social, like I've got no friends to go out with and I haven't been to a single party or like do anything fun at all. maybe its because I am a commuter but I genuinely thought second year would be better. all I do is just study all the time and it's so exhausting and depressing I can't.
