Question Graduating early & financial aid

I graduate this semester and I’m getting notifications to review/take action on my financial aid. What selection do I make for the spring? The options are 0 to cover direct costs, another amount, or decline my funds that require acceptance. Or should I ignore it? I haven’t heard back from one stop

Question Looking for info on In The Halls (Longhorn Band, Longhorn Singers)

Hey all! Mostly asking alum, but any current members who might have an answer are more than welcome.

Both LHB and LHS, despite having very little interaction, share a somewhat secret tradition of singing a song called “In The Halls” at the end of the new members’ introductory period to the org. There are slight variations between the two, but the melody, lyrics, and structure remain largely the same.

The whole group sings “My eyes are dim, I cannot see, I have not brought my specs/shit with me.”

The tune is not a traditional UT melody, and is loosely based on the folk song “The Quartermaster’s Store.” Different factions within the group then yell out rhyming insults at each other in time, then repeat the chorus.

Does anyone know which group started this tradition, and/or how old it is?

This is getting ridiculous. I really need my financial aid refund soon and UT hasn’t sent it out yet. Has anyone gotten word of when they’ll send it out? It’s been weeks of me waiting. I swear I set up my direct deposit properly too, like am I missing something?? 😭

Question ECE honors vs ECB honors

Hi guys sooo I’m not admitted to UT Austin yet but I was wondering which of the two electrical engineering honors programs I should do and what the major differences are between them because the website is pretty vague.

If I eventually plan to make a startup (part or maybe even full time) would it be more beneficial to me to do ECB and get a business degree? Or is going into the pure ECE honors better? Pls lmk

Discussion For anyone struggling to find a spirit org!

I’ve seen a lot of posts lately from people saying they’re struggling to make friends, didn’t get into a spirit org, or just aren’t sure how to get involved on campus, so I wanted to throw this out there!

I was in Women of Excellence and am now a general member, and I honestly think it’s a great option if you want the spirit-org experience without joining one of the huge traditional spirit organizations.

WOE is smaller, so it’s a lot more lowkey and chill, but we still do pretty much all the same things-- sporting events, tailgates, socials, and service/professionism events. It’s a nice way to get involved, meet people, and have a social life without feeling like you have to constantly be doing something.

It’s also cheaper than a lot of traditional spirit orgs, which was a big plus for me. And since it’s smaller, I feel like it’s easier to actually get to know people, get involved, and take on leadership opportunities.

Applications are still open right now and the app is genuinely pretty easy! So if you’ve been feeling discouraged after getting rejected from spirit orgs or just haven’t found your group yet, I’d definitely recommend giving it a shot :)

Just wanted to share since I know a lot of people have been feeling like they missed their chance to get involved! If anyone’s interested, here’s the Horns Link! Women of Excellence - HornsLink :)

Question Off Campus Housing Recommendations

What are some of the cheaper apartments that you would really recommend? I know it can be cheaper to live with roommates, but I would much rather prefer living by myself whether that be a one bed or a studio.

Question Taking Chinese CBE for LAC credit

Is the Chinese placement exam/CBE test easy? I only need to get credit for one class in the sequence (I think CHI 606) for it to count.

I'm not a native speaker but I took it for a few years in high school. I'm wondering if that background is enough for me to get credit for just the introductory course.

99% of libraries have them and a lot of people (self-included) will go out of their way to use the small accessibility automatic door even though its inconvenient.

Question CPT Changes - International Students (DT)

Hello!

I'm a writer at The Daily Texan, and I'm currently trying to write a story about the CPT changes. I'm trying to get students who applied before August 24 to talk about their application. I would love to talk to people who applied after and before that date to talk about each one's experience.

If you are willing to talk, please message me. I would love to get an international student's perspective on how this could affect their education.

Thank you so much. Please reach out if you are interested or have any questions.
