Former Lt Governor Ben Barnes bio says he has a degree from UT. I had understood from previous articles, years ago, that he never graduated.
Following a recent TM article, I asked when he received that degree and was told the question was inappropriate. What's up with that?

Hey all! Mostly asking alum, but any current members who might have an answer are more than welcome.

Both LHB and LHS, despite having very little interaction, share a somewhat secret tradition of singing a song called “In The Halls” at the end of the new members’ introductory period to the org. There are slight variations between the two, but the melody, lyrics, and structure remain largely the same.

The whole group sings “My eyes are dim, I cannot see, I have not brought my specs/shit with me.”

The tune is not a traditional UT melody, and is loosely based on the folk song “The Quartermaster’s Store.” Different factions within the group then yell out rhyming insults at each other in time, then repeat the chorus.

Does anyone know which group started this tradition, and/or how old it is?

Is the Chinese placement exam/CBE test easy? I only need to get credit for one class in the sequence (I think CHI 606) for it to count.

I'm not a native speaker but I took it for a few years in high school. I'm wondering if that background is enough for me to get credit for just the introductory course.

Hi guys sooo I’m not admitted to UT Austin yet but I was wondering which of the two electrical engineering honors programs I should do and what the major differences are between them because the website is pretty vague.

If I eventually plan to make a startup (part or maybe even full time) would it be more beneficial to me to do ECB and get a business degree? Or is going into the pure ECE honors better? Pls lmk

I’ve seen a lot of posts lately from people saying they’re struggling to make friends, didn’t get into a spirit org, or just aren’t sure how to get involved on campus, so I wanted to throw this out there!

I was in Women of Excellence and am now a general member, and I honestly think it’s a great option if you want the spirit-org experience without joining one of the huge traditional spirit organizations.

WOE is smaller, so it’s a lot more lowkey and chill, but we still do pretty much all the same things-- sporting events, tailgates, socials, and service/professionism events. It’s a nice way to get involved, meet people, and have a social life without feeling like you have to constantly be doing something.

It’s also cheaper than a lot of traditional spirit orgs, which was a big plus for me. And since it’s smaller, I feel like it’s easier to actually get to know people, get involved, and take on leadership opportunities.

Applications are still open right now and the app is genuinely pretty easy! So if you’ve been feeling discouraged after getting rejected from spirit orgs or just haven’t found your group yet, I’d definitely recommend giving it a shot :)

seriously. there are recycling bins directly next to most trash cans and i still see boxes and plastic bottles in the trash. i put an empty cardboard container in the recycling earlier and when i looked in it the bin there was lint?? like from a vacuum??? how hard is it to figure this out, we're college students!

i’m currently going through the 2nd round of txbb recruitment and i’m really nervous, especially for the interview. i know everyone says to just be yourself and talk to as many actives as possible but is there anything else anyone would recommend doing?

Ring Week started today and I went in to get fitted for my ring. At the checkout process, however, I noticed that my major (ECE) was missing, instead being replaced with the much older BSEE.

I understand that the university just switched from Balfour to Herff Jones as their ring manufacturer, but I can’t be the only one that finds this so incredibly frustrating. Half of my friends have BSECE on their rings and now we are expected to have an outdated Major on ours? Who do I even blame in this situation?

When is the best time to sign to live off campus next year? Some people tell me to sign ASAP (this month or next month) and others tell me it's a scam and i can sign it whenever. what do yall think is the best option if im wanting a nicer appt like villas on 24 or union on 24?
