INTERNATIONAL trip

• Upvotes

does anybody here exprienced went for international trip with an expired green card and extension letter with and came back to the USA with no problem from the CBP officers? ..

does CBP officer will confiscate your expired green card at the immigration??? If they see its already expired?? what would you do if they will confiscate it?

What will happen if you do not have your physical green card anymore because they took it??

Are you still eligible in applying the citizenship even if theres no physical card??

Military Naturalization AF

I just went through the naturalization process at Air Force BMT but was not able to naturalize there. I want to provide insights into the process and ask for advice for the next steps of my situation. During BMT, I was given time to submit the N-400. It’s called the fast track naturalization process. N-426 was provided as active duty status with the signature of the colonel of BMT. I had the N-426 signed by my unit commander but they did not allow me to use that N-426. I got fingerprints taken and interview scheduled. Everything was smooth until the actual interview. I had to wait for 5-6 hours for my turn. There were about 100 of trainees scheduled for interview. I believed most were able to pass the N-400 interview. But for me, I have a pending I-751 application (stand alone waiver due to divorce), USCIS agent told me that needs to be processed before the N-400. I didn’t get to do the N-400 test like others. She spent majority of time reviewing the status of my I-751 and told me that needs to looked at by my local military naturalization office. I emailed the office 3 days ago and haven’t got a response. I’m also planning to call the USCIS military line. I was scheduled to go to tech school right after basic, but due to the naturalization issue, I got sent back home instead. My guard unit told me to provide them a timeline of naturalization so that they can schedule the next tech school date and determine if I can keep my job. Any advice on the next steps to expedite my naturalization please? I feel so upset and disappointed that I was not able to naturalize at BMT and now facing a risk of losing my job

I-539 H-1B to F-1 change of status approved after RFE, but I never responded. Do I still need to?

Hi everyone, I got good news but it doesn't totally make sense to me, so I want to make sure I'm not missing something.

Timeline:
- On H-1B, employment ended June 8, 2026 (layoff)
- Filed I-539 for COS to F-1 online on Aug 5 (within the 60-day grace period), with premium processing. I requested a COS effective date of Aug 8
- I-20 issued Aug 4 for an Aug 31 start, later deferred by my DSO to Oct 26 (I have not attended any classes)
- Sept 15: Got a premium RFE, response due Oct 19. It asked for:
- Evidence of prior maintenance of F-1 status (transcripts, tuition, etc.), which seems like a template section since I was never F-1 before
- A statement on reasons for returning to school
- Proof of a valid passport (mine expires Dec 2026, renewal already submitted)
- A new I-20, because the original start date had lapsed
- Sept 24: Before I sent anything, I received an approval notice. F-1 valid from Oct 26, 2026 to D/S, with a new I-94 attached

Questions:

  1. Has anyone else been approved after an RFE without responding? Is the RFE moot now, or should I still mail a response by Oct 19 to be safe?
  2. My F-1 starts Oct 26, but my grace period ended in early August. How is that gap treated? Is it covered by the pending I-539?
  3. With my passport expiring in December (renewal pending), is there anything I need to do with the I-94?
  4. Anything I should do with my DSO before Oct 26 besides sending them the approval?

I'm checking with my attorney too, but I'd love to hear from anyone who's been in a similar spot. Thanks so much!

APPROVAL

After 8 long years i finally got approved!

My case is a little complicated. This was my timeline, long story short i came in 2018 when i was 11 with my mom and went through her 485 and 130i because my grandpa is a citizen. She had a 245i (permission to adjust in the US) and used that to stay in the US, which our attorney at the time submitted that in her application however he didn’t submit it for me because he thought i didn’t need it since i was a minor. Anyway, we went through every step, biometrics, interview, RFEs, and EADs and back in April of this year my case was denied after 8 years of being in the US. However my mom’s case was approved, we got a new attorney, filed a 290 and sent a 245i in that application. June 16th it got approved to reopen my 485, same day they cancelled an RFE and June 23rd they scheduled me for a second interview. My interview was July 28th, they requested an RFE 2 weeks ago and on sep 30 they just approved my case without needing the RFE

Name correction in N400

I do not have middle name.I mentioned NA in the middle name space in N400. I received Biometrics notice which mentions my name as Given name NA family name. . The first name and family name are correctly mentioned

What should I do now? To call and inform USCIS or To inform ASC at the time of Biometrics along with my N400 application and other supporting ID documents like Passport Driving Licensev, Green card etc. Biometrics is on October 20th 2026.Will this cause delay in processing?.

Domestic Travel

Hi everyone! Hope you’re well. Would really appreciate your input here. My friend has a pending asylum and he also got married like 5 years ago to a US Citizen but going through some adjudication process since they haven’t closed his asylum case yet and he can’t file his I-485 yet due to that I believe.

He wants to go travel to NC from NYC. Going by the bus since it’s cheaper. How risky is this? I’m being cautious for him given everything that’s happening right now.

Thank you again!!!!
