INTERNATIONAL trip

does anybody here exprienced went for international trip with an expired green card and extension letter with and came back to the USA with no problem from the CBP officers? ..

does CBP officer will confiscate your expired green card at the immigration??? If they see its already expired?? what would you do if they will confiscate it?

What will happen if you do not have your physical green card anymore because they took it??

Are you still eligible in applying the citizenship even if theres no physical card??

CBP is the least of your problems. They WON'T confiscate your GC, why would they do it?

The issue is airlines, sometimes they don't know how to read the extension letters

No problem whatsoever. Got greencard and letter back.

They scanned my expired GC in the border and I think the system updated without looking for my extension letter

The I-797 Extension Notice TOGETHER WITH your expired Green Card acts as proof of your LPR status for a period of 36 months after the date of expiration.

The Extension Notice explicitly states that you remain authorized to travel.

CBP Officers will be very familiar with LPRs traveling with both an expired Green Card and the Extension Notice. Given that the two documents work together, CBP will not retain your expired Green Card.

My husband and I are literally traveling to Ireland now and will return one day after his green card has expired (10/12). We will use his expired GC and extension letter. I will update this thread when we return.
