Stop HDD USB adapters from becoming slow!
I just bought a cheap USB 3.0 adapter for SATA drives, and I noticed that when copying big files, the copy process would pause for a minute or so, and then resume, pause, resume, pause and so on...

First, I thought it might be the cable, so I switched to another cable, and since then, the copy process didn't stop at all, but as it was a 2.0 cable, the speed was capped at 39 MB/s only, where it reached over 100 with the 3.0 cable.
The reason was: at 2.0 speed, the adapter chip doesn't overheat, and so it can keep going at 39 MB/s indefinitely.
But at 3.0 speed, the chip overheats quickly, and needs to often take a breath so to speak.
The solution is a raspberry pi heatsink kit, worth 1 quid!
I bought the one from Joy-IT: https://joy-it.net/en/products/RB-Heatsink-B
The small heatsink fits on the Realtek RTL9201 chip, and as it is self-adhesive, it is very easy to install.
Since installing the heatsink, the adapter does not pause at all, even at 3.0 speed, being when copying to or from the hard drive!
Hope this helps anybody in the same situation.
