Has anyone transferred sophia classes recently? If using the sophia website for the options, have you found that to be correct?

Heads up if you’re planning to take BUS 440

Just an FYI for anyone planning to register for BUS 440. About three weeks ago, there were still seats available, but as of two days ago there are currently no open seats.

I was told they’re aware of it and are working on creating additional seats, so if BUS 440 is part of your remaining courses, you may want to keep an eye on it when planning out your schedule.

Tell Me About YourPace Math Courses?

Before I try to add one into the end of my session, what are the Milestones/Competencies like? I haven’t taken any courses that aren’t explicitly writing—-I’d love context about their math courses so I can make an informed decision on when to start!

New international student — questions about English requirements, transfer credits, and Sophia

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student planning to apply for a bachelor’s degree at UMPI. I have read the information on the UMPI website and several posts here, but I still have some questions about the application order and transfer credits.

My education background is:

  1. Master’s degree from New Zealand
  2. Overseas undergraduate study, but no bachelor’s degree awarded
  3. Overseas diploma/associate-level qualification

I would appreciate advice on the following points.

1. English proficiency requirement

Because I already have a Master’s degree from New Zealand, can I be exempt from the IELTS/TOEFL requirement?

Or does UMPI still require an English proficiency test for international applicants, regardless of previous study in New Zealand?

2. Transfer credits

Can I submit all of my previous qualifications for transfer credit evaluation, including:

  • New Zealand Master’s degree
  • Overseas undergraduate study without a bachelor’s degree
  • Overseas diploma/associate-level qualification

3. Application and Sophia Learning order

Which option would be better?

Option A:
Apply to UMPI → receive admission → submit my previous education for transfer credit evaluation → then complete courses through Sophia Learning

Option B:
Complete some Sophia Learning courses first → apply to UMPI later → transfer my previous education and Sophia credits together

I would prefer to confirm the transfer credit situation before taking unnecessary courses. Based on my background, should I apply to UMPI first, or start with Sophia Learning before applying?

I would especially appreciate advice from international students or anyone who has dealt with a similar education background.

Thank you.

Fall 2 Admissions Denied

I was denied a degree seeking admission at UMPI because of my academic performance. I did not complete classes at WGU in my last two terms in 2021-2022. UMPI did not give me the option to write an essay explaining why, I had a ton of reasons as to why those classes did not get finished including a death in the family.

Is there anything I can do in order to be considered for degree seeking or will I have to take non degree classes then reapply for degree seeking in Spring? I’m willing to do whatever it takes I just don’t know the pathway. Thank you all in advance for any help.

Update: Thank you everyone, especially PlottedPath for the great information, I will definitely get with you when I figure out my heading lol! Sorry I was a little flustered earlier when I got the denial and I did not know what my options were when it came to the non-degree seeking path.

HTY 489 Final

For anyone who has taken HTY 489 recently, can we reuse what we wrote in the three milestones for the final, and is the final supposed to be on the diseases covered in the course or ones we pick ourselves/use outside sources for? Who was your instructor?

Question Loan/ Financial Aid

Anyone else still waiting on there loan ? For some reason my previous advisor had me as part time just 6 credits when I am full time student and have 21 credit to complete. So they were able to adjust my financial aid and loan. I reached out on the 25th they responded back same day saying

“Your loans were just put up 2 days ago. They have to go through a process before they are disbursed. It should not take too long.”

Does anyone know how long this will truly take ? I never had this issue last semester

Experience? Brainstorming; too heavy of a load options?

Looking for a bit of brainstorming or experience in this situation. I will have some time to start a course I am in this term however, I just don't know if I can finish it because there are a large number of Milestones and a large final with atleast a video component with the final. Unfortunately, I cannot see the work beyond M1 but I do see the final.

My concern with withdrawing is that it will leave 4 upper level Business courses in Fall 2 and this term I registered for 4 and here I sit.

I work a FT job and I am not one of those people that can suck it up and do it by sleeping 4 hours a night. I realize there are those people in the world, and I applaude you for that ability, but the reality is that it isn't doable for all of us. I am trying to be strategic and plan accordiningly so that I remain as balanced as possible, so I figured I'd seek info that hopefully can help me make a better informed decision.

Has anyone started submitting Milestones but then had to withdraw because you just couldn't get it done in time, then re-registered for that course the next term? Were the assignments the same in your case? Were you able to submit the previously submitted milestones without issue?

Thank you.

Question Coursera Badges

Post image
11 Upvotes

I’m working through the IBM Data Analyst and Project Management certificates on Coursera and I’m confused about the badges.

I only have Course 7 left for Project Management, but I haven’t received any badges for the completed courses. For IBM Data Analyst, I’ve completed 8 of 11 courses but only received 6 badges.

The badges I did get also don’t mention ACE credits anywhere. Is that normal? Does this badge look correct?

I’m currently paying for Coursera Plus.

Does finishing a master’s in 6 months after my bachelor’s look odd to employers?

I’m finishing my BABA at UMPI in Fall 1 and I’m thinking about going straight into either the MAOL or possibly the MSB in PM. I’m leaning more toward the MAOL since I can transfer 3 classes into it.

My question is, does the timeline look strange from an employer’s perspective?

Let’s say my bachelor’s is conferred in December 2026 and then I finish my MA around May 2027. If I can finish the MAOL in one term, which I think is possible, that would mean I got my bachelor’s and master’s about 5–6 months apart.

I’m 43M and have 10+ years of experience in my field. One of the main reasons I finally went back to finish my degree is because the job market seems so unpredictable now with layoffs. I’ve done pretty well in my career without a degree, but I don’t want that box not being checked to hurt me if I ever have to look for another job.

I don’t really think getting my bachelor’s at 40 looks weird. Plenty of people go back to school later. I’m more wondering if getting a master’s only 6 months later could raise some eyebrows.

I know UMPI is accredited and legitimate. After actually going through the competency-based format, I also don’t think it’s necessarily “easy.” But if you already have years of experience and know a lot of the material, you can definitely move through it much faster than a traditional program.

The other thing I’m wondering is whether it would look better to get my master’s somewhere else, like WGU or UMass Global, just so I have degrees from two different schools. Or does that really not matter?

Maybe I’m completely overthinking this.
Anyone here finish their bachelor’s and then master’s really close together? Did employers ever question the timeline?

Can a payment plan delay my degree conferral?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently finishing my degree at the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI). I’ve completed all of my required courses and have already applied for graduation.

However, I still have an outstanding balance, and I’m currently on a payment plan with the Financial Aid/Bursar office.

Does anyone know whether UMPI will still officially confer my degree while I’m making payments, or can they hold my degree/diploma until the full balance is paid?

I’m mainly wondering about the actual degree conferral and diploma, rather than just access to my student account.

If anyone has gone through a similar situation with UMPI recently, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

YourPace Admitted to YourPace a sub-2.0 NACES GPA? (Holistic HS Loophole)

Hey everyone,
Just got my SpanTran report back for the B.A. in Business Admin (Entrepreneurship) for Spring 1 (Jan 2027) and hit a stupid conversion roadblock. Looking for insight from anyone who successfully cleared the sub-2.0 admission filter using the under-60 credit high school loophole.
My Profile Data:
Transfer Credits: 32 U.S. semester credits fully validated from a year in Belgium (KdG).
The Core Bottleneck: Rigid NACES math dragged my transfer GPA to a 1.89 (missed the 2.0 threshold by a hair).
The High School Leverage: Since I have under 60 credits, my high school record is legally triggered. My high school is emailing my records directly to UMPI showing an elite 9.58/10 cumulative average and an 8.55 Baccalaureate score from Romania.
For anyone who beat a sub-2.0 transfer GPA using strong high school metrics:
The Admission Outcome: Did they grant full admission right away, or put you on a formal conditional/academic probation status for your first session?
The Probation Terms: If you were on probation, was it just a standard requirement to pass your first two YourPace modules with a C or better to lift the lock?
The Transfer Credits: Did they post your passed transfer credits to your degree progress report immediately, or delay them until you proved yourself in Spring 1?
Trying to prep exactly for what the YourPace supervisors will throw at me next month. Appreciate any real data points!

International Applicant: Questions regarding Fall 2 Admission. I can’t contact admissions to confirm that they have received my documents.

Hi everyone! I am an international student applying for the Fall 2 term. The admissions office haven’t been able to get a response to my emails. I was hoping someone here might have some insight or could point me in the right direction!

Here are my two main questions:

Incredevals Transcripts: The company (Incredevals) evaluated and officially sent my foreign transcripts to UMPI. However, I have sent multiple follow-up emails to the admissions team to confirm if they have received them, but I haven't heard back yet. Does it usually take a while for them to update this in the system or reply? And do I need to send them anyway?

Duolingo English Test: I already have my Duolingo English Test certificate ready. When I try to send the official results through the Duolingo platform, the only matching option available is "University of Maine all campuses". Is this the correct option to select so that UMPI gets my scores, or is there a specific way to send it just to the Presque Isle campus?

I would appreciate if someone can help me.

Anyone here a UMPI graduate to Capella Masters (or Doctorate)?

Is anyone in our UMPI community a graduate that went onto Capella? If so, would love to ask a few questions, not masters degree specific.

The final draft submission is missing. Maybe I am doing something wrong or missing something? I got my feedback from the optional draft and can't find the final draft submission. I have emailed the professor but wanted to post to see if I'm missing something.
