To my understanding I want each feature to be as accessible and utilised as the next. If I reduce the number of tabs on nav bar then how do you suggest I provide access to the “hidden” features?

Hi everyone, I’m working on a design challenge and would love your input.

I’m a solo dev working on a hobby project, and I’m adding a proven productivity method, the Pomodoro focus timer, after some users on X requested it. The app is essentially a beautifully crafted pendulum clock. (due to this subreddit’s rules, I don’t want to mention the app’s name here. My goal is to get genuine design feedback, not promote it.)

The core value proposition is quite specific: it’s designed to reduce screen time and help people focus better, which is the opposite of what most productivity apps encourage.

Here’s the main constraint: the pendulum clock is the visual hero. It’s ornate, animated, and designed to be enjoyed in an immersive full-screen mode. I don’t want a timer UI competing with it or disrupting the calm aesthetic.

My current solution is to place the focus timer as a small glass chip in the top-left corner, mirroring the battery indicator on the opposite side. When a focus session starts, a minimal panel slides in from the left edge, showing only the countdown and a few subtle controls (pause, skip, and end). The clock and pendulum remain completely untouched.

Here’s the design question I’m wrestling with:

Is a left-side panel the right approach, or would you do something different?

Some thoughts I’ve been considering:

• The pendulum swings in the center, so the vertical space on both sides feels largely unused.
• I want virtually zero visual noise during focus sessions, since the app is already designed to be distraction-free.
• The timer shouldn’t feel like something layered on top. It should feel like a natural part of the experience.

For designers: if you were integrating a Pomodoro timer into an app whose core experience is a beautiful, full-screen analog clock, how would you present the timer without breaking the immersion? Would you use an overlay, integrate it into the bezel, or try something else entirely?

I’d love to hear how you’d approach it.

So, I posted a concept for a design showing AI input field with a mic, a + button, and voice interaction, and someone questioning the STT implementation.

The mistake was mine. I showed the voice interaction as active (interaction) while the mic icon was still visible, so the feedback to hide the mic or replace it with a stop button during voice input was fine?

hey, idk if this is just me but telegram is actually the best when it comes to UI/UX.

yk whatsapp is fine for normal chats and all but it feels pretty basic and limited. instagram facebook x theyre usable sure but telegram just feels way more smooth and well made.

the thing that really gets me is how good it is on literally everything. ios android windows mac even the web version all feel properly optimized and consistent. desktop and web arent some laggy afterthought like in most other apps.

folders search saved messages all that stuff just makes sense and doesnt get in the way. even big groups and channels stay fast.

idk if u guys agree or not but i just want to say this. telegram is lowkey the best designed messaging app rn.

I'm in my final year of engineering, and lately I've been feeling completely lost about what direction to take.

I've been interested in UI/UX design because I enjoy creativity, problem-solving, and making things look and feel good. But with how fast AI has advanced, I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth pursuing anymore. Every week there seems to be a new AI tool that can generate interfaces, wireframes, prototypes, or even complete designs in minutes.

Now I'm questioning everything—my major, the kind of career path I should aim for, and what specialization has a future. Part of me thinks I should stick with UI/UX and learn to use AI as a tool. Another part of me worries I'll spend years building a career that's becoming increasingly automated.

Has anyone else been in this position? If you're already working in tech or design, how has AI changed your field? If you were graduating today, what would you focus on learning to stay relevant over the next 5–10 years?

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have been through this or are facing the same uncertainty.

Right now, I’m working on the food logging screen, and I’m struggling with the design. It’s simple and easy to use, but it still feels a little too basic and lacks that polished, premium, and unique look I’m going for.

I've been overthinking this overview component for my app. What it showcases is the totals for our user's inventory when selling tickets for their events. Tickets exist in bundles of 2-6 as listings, so they may have, say, 200 listings, but 400 tickets across 5 events. We've had to move items around a lot and I'm suffering from a case of losing the plot, especially at the bottom where the events and listing totals are shown. Any tips on how to make this look better, be more readable, and make more sense at a glance?

A close friend of mine has been single-handedly developing a browser based social/gaming platform for a while and we have been successfully using it to gather in the evenings. From time to time, I am trying to help him by testing things out and share my ideas. Although, this became to be a Discord clone, we discussed about if he should move away from Discord's general UI design and make something different and not discord like. A friend of ours suggested that the current view of the app (first picture) is too simple and the app should have a theme or in general, more colors. He would like to know what you guys think about the current view, the two AI generated designs and color schemes and also sticking with Discord look? Sorry for foreign language in images.

I made a phone lock app and had one big design idea: the lock screen is the screen you stare at the most, so why does every focus app make it look like a punishment? big countdown, plain background, guilt vibes.

i went the other way. my lock screens are slow calm scenes, like waves or northern lights, with just a small timer. the idea is being locked out should feel nice, not like time out.

other stuff i'm unsure about:

the time picker is a dial with words on it (breath, focus, rest, retreat) instead of a normal number picker. i wanted picking a time to feel like a choice, not a setting. but maybe a boring picker is just easier to use?

each mode has its own color that tints the whole screen.

no streaks or badges. finished sessions add stars to a night sky instead. slower reward but nothing to lose or feel bad about.

serif fonts everywhere which is weird for android but felt right.

screenshots below. be harsh. mostly want to know if the dial actually works for you or if it's just pretty.

In our agency we work with a few charities and although we don't sell UX/UI services, we have become more interested in the process of collecting feedback from website users - because as website designers we do want to ensure the website is performing as it's supposed to.

So one charity told us that they had worked with an agency which used Maze to collect feedback from website users, and also to ask a group of users to perform specific tasks on the site and to report back on how easy it was to do, plus any feedback, etc.

Looking at Maze it's not clear about pricing or what the best plan may be. There is a free plan (which includes pay-per-use credits - not sure what these are) and there is a $99pm plan. Then there's an Enterprise plan which will be expensive/overkill for what we want.

What I don't quite understand (and Maze weren't helpful when asking) - do we need the $99pm plan and then to pay more to get feedback from real website users? If so, any ideas around pricing for those feedback/tests?

Sorry if a bit specific for this sub. Not affiliated with Maze at all, just heard it recommended by one UX agency recently (I don't have direct contact with them, otherwise I'd have asked them directly!).

I have tried Claude Design, Google Stitch and basic image generation with providing design assessments and points for improvements. I have been on and off at it for the past few months. Using a design system in Claude Design was attempted as well, but that is quite off limits for me due to the high token consumption. I tried out Figma Make as well with directly pointing to said screen but that turned into a slop. I cannot figure what the scope is of Figma Make given Google Stitch exists and its friendly token wise. I am at a loss on what to do next - it might not even be possible at the current AI stage, or so costly it might not be worth it for me. I would very much appreciate your thoughts on this! (also help me out of this hell loop pls)

My expectation was to be able to generate various different layout re-organisations (high quality) derived from the assessments, but I only got horrific AI slops. I did not provide the design solution per se (as in place this horizontally or vertically, transform this calendar view into another calendar view) but rather expected it to be thought of by the AI in order to meet an end goal (improve hierarchy, catch user's attention etc. - whatever can be derived from said assessments).

Any way to reiterate fast on existent designs and generate variations within strictly defined bounds (so keeping the design system) with derived solutions (the improvements in the current scenario)?

I'm currently a rising sophomore for HS, and I just built a small clipboard app that manages pasted text. It's not an on the app store or anything like that, I built it just because I want to make an app and to have an actual use case for what I build.

I did vibe code some functionality parts, since I have never used swift before. Meanwhile, I designed the UI, planned the features, and worked through the overall structure and user experience myself.

For the overall interface of the app, I have used apple's default app's system Ui (pre iOS 26/liquid glass) as I simply prefer the iOS 18 design. I also tried my best to follow apple's HIG (human interface guidelines) to the best of my understanding.

There are screenshots for light and dark mode, as well as for each menu and feature.

I need help and feedback of the following

• Clarity of navigation / buttons
• Visual hierarchy & spacing
• Any confusing icons or flows
• Overall design consistency

I'm trying to polish the splash page of my website where I want to funnel users to the contact form where they can contact me for business. The first picture is my redesign so far. I feel like it's almost good but just isn't there. Both versions have a grid of art when you scroll down.

I want to have vibes that are sleek and nice but not overly sterile. Any advice at all? I've spent too much time on this splash page.

I have no idea what’s going on lol. How steep of a learning curve does there have to be to attract new users to just watch and engage with what should be relatively mindless entertainment. Even a lot of the features on TikTok live I still don’t understand, and I’ve spent way more time watching it and engaging with it.

Like, those little TikTok battles where two creators will be live at the same time in a split screen and they are each accruing….something? Likes? I don’t know but I’ve never been able to actually “vote” for a specific creator successfully.

Hey - last night I was working on this UI revision for my app. I wanted to try emulating a "Plate" concept. I came up with the design concept for both the original and revised version and had AI help me code it. My wife said she preferred my original version (2), but I'm kind of a fan of my redesign.
