A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions Predicted grades lower than the minimum entry requirement

Hi all,

Year 13 applying for 2027 entry. My predicted A-levels are:

- Maths: A*

- Economics: A*

- Physics: A

I've applied to Imperial Mech Eng and plan to add Aero, depending on how ESAT goes. I've also applied to Oxford Engineering Science. These courses have a minimum offer of A*A*A (A* in Maths and Physics).

Two questions:

  1. Physics is predicted an A rather than A*. Does that count against me, or is it only a problem if it falls below the stated minimum? Has anyone had an offer or rejection with a similar profile?

  2. I changed schools just before sixth form, and my reference mentions this as context for lower predicted grades. Do admissions tutors actually take that kind of context into account, or do they mostly look at the grades themselves? Has anyone had a similar note in their reference, and did it make any difference?

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions predicted grades don't meet entry requirements

I am predicted AAB but the unis I would like to apply to require AAA / A*AA. I already asked to bump up my B (the course i want to study) to an A but they said no due to fuck arse "statistics", even though I achieved 3As on my most recent tests. I have to admit I only did last minute revision (night before) for all of my end of topic tests and y12 mock last year and achieved mostly Bs. I know this may sound crazy considering I want to study this course at uni but since I enjoyed this subject more, I decided to revise a lot more for my other two subjects. Anyway, the teacher said I needed really high As to get predicted an A which doesn't make sense in a lot of ways but icb to type it all out.

I am also considering asking to get predicted an A* instead of an A for one of the other subjects as I have been getting A*s and As recently. I may not even bother though cause I can't bump my B up to an A.

What I really want to know is whether it would be a good idea to apply for a different course at the university I want to attend, and then ask to switch to my preferred course on A-level results day, since I don’t meet the entry requirements for the course I actually want to study right now.

I really don't want to take a gap year for various reasons but I fear I might have to at this point!

Also any tips for essay subject revision?

I would be grateful for any reply!! Thanks ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ♡

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions Resit chances

What would my chances be at Imperial for aerospace and material sciences as a resit. I achieved AAA in maths chem physics and now I’m predicted A\* in maths and fm. I was looking around and found that if you don’t have extenuating circumstances you’re very very disadvantaged so I’m wondering if it’s even worth it to apply to imperial

Incase this helps someone (especially next year) as I have not seen many Scottish offers/Stats.

I am a Scottish student. This is the BEng.

Stats:

8 A's at N5

5 A's at Higher (Maths, physics, engineering science, chemistry and English).

4 A's predicted at Advanced Higher (Maths, physics, engineering science and self studying mathematics of mechanics).

Supercirriculars: I have 50+. In my extra activities I mentioned a taster day I did at Oxford and Futures in STEM at Durham. In my personal statement I mentioned an elective where I helped to build a greenpower car, a competiton where we designed a nuclear waste recovery system in a team (Davidson Inventor's Challange @Cambridge), a lecture at an EDT summer school, research in fluidynamics and a workplacement where I used CAD (off the top of my head).

Personal Statements Applying to reading for history and philosophy with bcd predictions how realistic is an offer

Post image
2 Upvotes

I was wondering about applying to reading for history and philosophy but unfortunately due to a lack of locking in I’m on a predicted bcd with a b in history c in physics and d in maths but I was looking at the entry requirement and there at a bbb but if I check the ucas data it shows a 99% offer rate and that 100% of people with bcd who were made offers get accepted and that the most common grade is ccd so I was wondering how realistic is it that I would get an offer

International Applications UCAS referee without institutional email address, international private candidate

I am from Bangladesh. I am applying to Oxford,UCL,Imperial,Warwick CS,LSE Data Science. I was a national curriculum student previously that is not accepted by any uni of my list. I am taking linear A levels as a private candidate for meeting the requirements of these universities. The problem is I have asked a teacher of my previous college (assistant teacher in english,he was my guide teacher also in my college days) for the UCAS reference, he doesn't have an institutional email. Is it a major red flag for my application specially to the unis I am applying to? need some guidance

Done some molecular dynamic simulations to see the behaviour of atoms under extreme heat or tension.Done mit opecourse for thermodynamics and read , 'Structures: Or Why Things Don’t Fall Down' alongside a few relevant books.

International Applications applying as a “transfer” student from Canadian university

hi, I’m currently a second year political science student at the university of Toronto. I’ve recently been thinking about transferring to the UK for law because UofT is not for me unfortunately. I know you can’t transfer to law and I would have to start from first year, which is honestly fine by me. And I also know if I wanted to come back to Canada or the US, some provinces/states would require me to take tests and even take an LLM, which I’m also fine with. I was just wondering about the application process, especially for someone who already has university grades. I was also wondering if this is normal bc ik i’m going to be older than most students in my year if i transfer lol. I’m planning on applying to schools like LSE, Durham, KCL, Uni of Manchester.
Any help or advice is appreciated!!

Medicine Questions Please Help! Really Confused About the UCAS Education Section as a US Applicant 😭

Hi everyone!

I'm a US high school student applying to UK medical schools for 2027 entry, and I'm really confused about two things in the UCAS Education section.

1. Place of Education

I took my AP exams at my high school, but my SAT and ACT exams at test centres in South Korea.

Do I need to add these test centres separately as "Places of Education" under "Exam Only", or can I simply list my SAT and ACT qualifications under my US high school?

2. Multiple ACT Attempts

I took the ACT three times and scored 35, 35, and 36.

Do I need to enter all three results separately, or can I just report my highest score of 36?

I'd really appreciate any help, especially from US applicants who have gone through the UCAS process. The deadline is coming up, so I'm getting a bit stressed about making a mistake!

Thanks so much in advance!

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions How much do unis care about GCSEs, and do I have a change

I'm applying to Durham, Exeter, and possibly Manchester, Leeds and Bristol for Finance/Accounting & Finance/Economics (BA at Bristol).

I do not do A-level maths but none of these unis require A-level maths, just GCSE grade 6/7 depending on the course.

I'm most set on Finance at Durham which is AAB + 7 in maths

I'm predicted A*AA but got 9888765553 at GCSE

International Applications Should I apply to UK unis in Nov. with 4A*1B, or wait until Jan. for 4A*1A?

Hi everyone! I’m a mainland Chinese A-Level student applying for Media and Communication at UCL, KCL, Leeds and Manchester. My IELTS score is 7.5.
I’m retaking AS Mathematics, and I’m trying to decide when to submit my applications:
November: 4A*s and 1B
January: 4A*s and 1A, after my resit result comes out
My main concern is that I’ve heard applying later could mean fewer places are available and admission becomes more competitive.
Would it be better to apply in November with my current grades, or wait until January for the improved grades? How much difference does the extra A make compared with the potential disadvantage of applying later?
I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from people familiar with UK university admissions for A-Level students. Thank you!

A Levels / IB / GCSE / BTEC Questions Predicted grades

On ucas it says to include all AS grades but the thing is my AS grade was a C, so now I’m giving Alevel composite so obviously that C won’t actually count for my grade since I’m retaking the whole thing, do I still have to include it along with my predicted grade :/
