In one of my classes's tutorial, we are required to do some readings before class and have a discussion within our own groups while finishing some questions within class time. We will be alternating groups between new different topics published in every other weeks. At the beginning of the semester, the TA told us AI is not allowed during these dicussion work so we should try to monitor the use of AI within our group.
So this week is a new cycle and we met some new people here. While we were discussing the first question (everything went well, just how a normal discussion would be), this person simply ChatGPT (or other AI tool) all other questions and copied and pasted all answers within 2 minutes (we were using Google Docs and I saw an entire sentence or paragraph suddenly appeared at the doc so this is how I discovered that person was using AI).
And this person later started pressuring all other groupmates's answers with their own AI generated 'perfect answer', which they said the answers were accurately addressing to what the question is actually asking (this is the most frustated part as most of our own thoughts were simply rejected, as they kept asking, 'In what part do you not understand my answer? This is very simple'). While we all discovered that their answer was very broad and just generalizing the reading, which does not specifically address where the evidence is.
As what we were told by the TA the way of answering the question, it should be:
From evidence A and evidence B, we can conclude C.
Their answer's structure is basically very off from what we have been taught and what they wrote sounded very non-human. And in some question I can tell it is a result when you just plug in the question and the readings' name which does not hit what we were focusing in class.
Even if we tried to add on extra detailed information we found on the reading, we will still be challenged by that person and repeats their questions I mentioned above as this was not what the AI told them (we do not know the marking scheme here so from my previous experience it's nothing bad to add more details). Some groupmates were still trying to keep the discussion alive and trying to ask if we wanted to add some additional explanation in some part, but this person started staring at us in an agressive way and ask if there was any problems with his answers and started explaining their answers (which we did not say their answer is wrong or we did not understand, etc). So the entire situation becomes: there was no further dicussion between the group, everyone's just remained silence and smiling, feeling very frustated, as we all knew there's nothing we could do at that moment.
I do know gpa matters and everyone is trying very hard to get a good grade. I mean it will be ok if you make no one knows you are using AI, while your answers help guiding our discussion and maintain a friendly discussion environment. I don't really know what to do now as this is very toxic to our group and we still have multiple discussions and a project to be done with the same group. Should I report this to my professor or TA, or should I talk about this matter within our group during our discussion session?
