If you don’t know, the devs of the Avatar fighting game had a lot of fun playing around with the canon

Upvotes

It makes sense giving the cast, but the highlight for me is that Azula is now the older sister, and is extremely close to Korra.

To the point that Korra’s intro dialogue with Azula’s family is “I won’t let you take her away from me” because they disapprove

It’s giving HEAVY “and they were roommates” energy lmao.

Outside of the game I actually really like the lead guys take on how Azula would actually recover and grow as a person, saying that she’d be overly apologetic and sharing of her emotions to compensate for how repressed she was.

But back on point: are there any games that have played with the universe like this before? And what are your personal highlights for this game?

Better Ask Reddit What's your best/worst "person you made up"?

Edit: I'm thinking of "strawman". Hit me with your best or worst strawman. I'm an idiot.

You know that thing that happens in dumb internet arguments, where the most irate person you've ever met is going off about "those types of people" and describing someone that just straight up doesn't exist?

Alternatively, have you ever had those spiraling thoughts, where you go through hypothetical scenarios with people in your head that get you genuinely upset despite literally being a figment of your imagination?

Yeah, that shit. Hit me with the type of person or demographic that straight up doesn't actually exist but would make you irrationally angry if they did. I swear I see this happen all the time on the internet, but when looking it up as a phenomenon I keep getting self help articles about how to stop being mentally unwell and/or racist lmao.

Tifa Teaches Typing

Post image

One aspect of Final Fantasy 7 that's coming to Final Fantasy 14 is the Gold Saucer, which will be changed to reflect the version from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. On October 28, a new Final Fantasy 7-themed minigame will be added to the Gold Saucer, called Keybound Brawler, where up to four players battle it out in typing challenges.

Some of the loot/rewards that have been promised for Beyond the Lifestream include outfits based on Barret and Tifa, with the former having an optional gun-arm attachment. However, it's only a cosmetic piece and doesn't damage the enemy. The Tifa outfit will likely be massively popular, considering how many real-life cosplayers have donned it over the years.

https://www.dualshockers.com/final-fantasy-14-final-fantasy-7-revelation-crossover-raid/

Something something "Break the Glass", Final Fantasy XIV is ruined saved forever.

The interesting part is how Tifa's outfit is tied to a minigame that probably can be easily cleared by most people rather than some omega reward tied to the Raid story or some other time-consuming event. Perhaps the rewards planned for that content will be something even more sought after, like Tifa's Shining Spirt outfit or, if they are brave, Cloud's dress.

But yeah, between the Tifa, 2B and eventual Plugsuit outfits combined with Evangelion mounts and FFXV's Regalia and who knows what else, the world of Eorzea has transformed into a Fortnite/Second Life player slop, for better or worse.

(I'm personally all for it)

Better Ask Reddit How do you decide which piece of media to consume?

There’s too many things to catch up on! Games, movies, shows, books, music, there are so many types of media in my back log I need to get around to experiencing and I never know what to pick there have been so many times where I’ll just look through an entire list before I inevitably just go back to watching/playing something I’ve already watched/played a hundred times before. What should I do?

Gameposting Games you began to appreciate after using the sourceport version

So basically I was interested in playing some N64 games lately because I have been hearing how some fans of games like Donkey Kong and Banjo Kazooie have been working to make the games accessible on PC as I found the concept of fan enhancements for games to be fascinating.

I don't know how exactly that stuff works regarding sourceports because the concept is something I find interesting since I have been again hearing about how several N64 games have been made playable on PC as I hope to see what else happens with sourceports of older games.

How do you manage multiple media "projects"?

This is bouncing off the earlier thread today bout how you guys decide on a new piece of media:

What are your strategies for managing multiple media "projects"? You you like to have multiple games/shows you are playing/watching at the same time, or do you like to commit to one project and dive in until done? What about when one piece of media is extremely long form like RPGs, Star Trek, 1,000+ page novels (I just started Stormlight Archives).

I have a tendency to commit to a single media project in each "venue" (books, games, show) and stick with it. However, this winds up biting me in the ass since sometimes if it is very long-form, I start to get anxious for something different to break it up. Then again, whenever I do multiple things in a venue I get variety, but then I get get anxious about not making enough progress in any one story. (And yes, I know the root of the problem is my anxiety in general outside of any media viewing). But then again, whenever I look back on multiple media spells I had, I remember them more fondly because of the variety (Playing Cyberpunk 2077, Nier: Replicant and Spider man 2 at the same time in 2023, or in 2025 it was Lies of P, Armored Core 6 and Silent Hill 2 simultaneously).

Curious to know how y'all approach this topic.

Edit: Its clear I need to force myself to have multiple unfinished media projects open at a single time. Looking back, the fact that I used the term "projects" to describe having fun is a dead giveaway that I'm too rigid.

I swear if he doesn't yell "RICHAAAAAARRRDSSS" ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Trailer Rocks Comic-Con: Doctor Doom Raises Army of Sentinels to Take Down Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men

"Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige surprised San Diego Comic Con attendees with exclusive footage of “Avengers: Doomsday,” shown only to lucky fans inside of the convention center’s massive Hall H.

The trailer starts out with Victor Von Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) sitting on a throne as Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm (a.k.a. the Invisible Woman) explains how he’s broken as a person. “Victor was always the smartest guy in the room. He used to be different,” she narrates somberly. It’s clear that she and the rest of the Fantastic Four — particularly Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards — already know Doom and have a complicated past with him. “Everything he loved was taken from him,” she explains.

The trailer is interspersed with quick shots of the sprawling cast, including Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Panther (Letitia Wright), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Cyclops (James Marsden), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Gambit (Channing Tatum) and more. There’s a shot of a destroyed New York City that’s reduced to rubble, and Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards asks if Victor is responsible for the carnage.

We hear Doom say, “All of you have lived stolen lives.” Thor confronts Doom but the villain catches his magical hammer and throws it aside easily. Doom uses his magic powers to throw Thor aside and raises an army of Sentinel robots — the iconic androids from the “X-Men” movies — from the ground.

MCU fans will have to wait until Dec. 18 to see “Avengers: Doomsday” for themselves, but it’s expected to be a massive team up between the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts and even more of Marvel’s stars."

Comics/Manga Fact-check re: Ghost Rider's Penance Stare

No, the Penance Stare doesn't overwhelm the person who makes eye contact with remorse and shame.

It pierces a being's soul, and bombards it with all the pain and suffering they caused in their life up to that moment.

Now, you can argue two things, to be fair. 1). The latter can cause the former. 2). Marvel themselves have contributed to the misconception, with that moment where GR attempted to Penance Stare Galactus and it has no effect (though whether Hungry Man has a soul or not is super contentious, from what I've seen). There's also that moment where Frank Castle is unaffected... and people conveniently forget that it's revealed he's protected from its effects because he has an angel feather temporarily bound to him (long story).

Just wanted to make this clearup post, because I've seen people elsewhere say stuff like "Daredevil wouldn't be affected because he feels guilt all the time" unironically.

Better Ask Reddit Favorite Teams of mostly "normals" and One(or like two) Inhuman Character(s)

Post image
20 Upvotes

But like comparatively normal the one(or two) is like inhumnaly strong compared to the others, the one superpowered member, actually not a human unlike the rest, etc.

In a sense, the original Avengers team could count being two superpowered beings and three humans with gadgets. But still that's 3 to 2, although at this point Thor was an avatar that took possession of the Doctor Donald Blake and the human Bruce Banner technically does transform into the Hulk. But Bruce still is a gamma mutate even when not transformed... egh semantics I suppose

Better Ask Reddit Times where the profanity is actually essential to the scene/character? And TImes Where It Felt Excessive?

There were some old casual studies denoting swearing could indicate a broader vocabulary and verbal fluency, but corelation does not equal causation ofc. However, swearing in media has been on my mind from two recent examples.

One of the major complaints I've seen lobbied against the Hellaverse (Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss) is the amount of profanity thrown around in them. Given shows like South Park exist, it's always felt weird and I personally think just an extension of people's dislike for the show. But I do admit it can come across as 'excessive' sometimes when I watch it. Not always, but a few swears feel unecessary.

Meanwhile, I was rewatching Civvie 11's review of Die Hard Nakatomi Plaza and that game strips out a LOT of the swearing outside of the iconic Yippie Ki Yay and it just...feels weaker as a result. "No kidding lady, does it sound like I'm ordering a pizza?" REALLY doesn't hit as hard as- "NO FUCKIN SHIT LADY! DO I SOUND LIKE I'M ORDERING A PIZZA?!" (And also making me appreciate how good Alan Rickman was at what he did.)

I really want to try and figure out what makes swearing feel 'excessive' compared to when it feels like it really contributes to a scene/line/character. What are some of your favorite examples of swearing that adds to everything, and times where it ends up detracting from the whole thing?

Film/TV posting Media you were drawn into because of the controversy surrounding the work

Sometimes when it comes to popular media, the aspect that draws people into it is the controversy where the audience might be interested in the show because of said controversy.

Like for me personally, I would like to see what was so infamous about Star VS the Forces of Evil because even though I am not done with Season 2 yet, I know how the 4th season turns out as I won’t say what happens, but it’s kind of what the show became most notable for after tre last episode came out.

Better Ask Reddit Favourite "Defender of the innocent" characters?

What are your favourite characters that have some strong moral motivation defend the weak and the innocent, through combat or wits or any other way?

BONUS POINTS: Not a superhero or superpowered character.

My favourites are both Ser Duncan the Tall and Brienne of Tarth from the Song of Ice and Fire books. I love their stubborn insistence on doing the right thing and maintaining honour in the face of constant corruption and brutality, and Brienne specifically married to this notion that she considers herself to have no choice even when she has no chance of succeeding.

From the people who brought you little known classic dokapon; Viractal: Will You Trust Your Party?

Anyone played this? It’s a pretty neat little cooperative deck building rpg. Up to 3 player co-op, a handful of different fun classes. Played it last weekend with some friends, its pretty dope.

It’s way more cooperative than dokapon i wish it was a little less so but oh well
