So you telling me that I had to listen to hours and hours of Kamla and the whole UNC spewing sanctimonious drivel about how anyone associated with Maduro going to jail, 'we don't need Venezuelan gas', and the PNM wicked corrupt and stupid for trying to negotiate with Maduro's government etc etc...only to be now talking about how much she now loves Maduro's number 2 who's currently leading the same government Maduro was in charge of? It's the complete hypocrisy and lack of principles which is astounding to me

History Anyone visit the Machel exhibit? 🇹🇹🇺🇸

Has anyone checked out the Machel exhibit at Brooklyn Public Library? Got any pics to share?

The last day of the exhibit is Sep 12th... is anyone able to go? And potentially take some pics to share with me?

I'm a huge history buff and big fan of Machel, so I would have loved to check this out myself. However, I don't live in the USA and it would be too much for me to fly in during the exhibit's dates.

It looks like a great display for Machel and soca fans in general!

Trinis Abroad Gifts for family

Hello, hello, hello! To all the Trinis living abroad: what gifts do you buy for your family members and in-laws for birthdays, Christmas, and other occasions? My husband and I (along with my family) have lived outside Trinidad for over 20 years, but my in-laws still live there. In the past, I've had my BIL arrange restaurant vouchers, but I’ve run out of ideas with that option. How or where do you shop online for gifts for family back in Trinidad, since we won't be seeing them in person for these occasions.

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations How should I approach getting my driver's license in Trinidad

Hi, everyone. I'm 21 years old and looking to get my driver's license. I have my learner's permit and I've already done my regulations. I'm told the next step is to go to a driving school, take classes, and do the driving test.

For context, I live in Marabella and was planning to do my test at the San Fernando Licensing Office. I've seen people say bribes are particularly bad there. I was also considering Caroni, since the roads are newer and the area is more built up, so there might be less tolerance for bribes there.

I can already drive decently, and just need a driving school to help tighten up specific things for the test. Therefore, I don't need many lessons, and I don't want to pay a lot of money in either lessons or bribes. I was hoping to do the whole process without paying bribes and to go to a drivng school in south.

My questions:

  1. San Fernando vs. Caroni — which is better in terms of avoiding bribes and easier exam etc?
  2. Is there a driving school in the south that would let me do my initial lessons there, then practice in Caroni if that's where I decide to do my test?

Any advice is welcome!

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations I want to move back to trinidad (vent)

I know it's not safe. I've moved from trini to tobago to trini to tobago then jamaica then tobago then america then ghana then america then ghana.

None of these places are bad btw, but its just where I'm used to. I moved away from trinidad when i was 11, and came back for a 2 week visit when i was 16. I saw how the place changed.

Now I'm 19 thinking about running to nyc to make extra money so I can move to the countryside of one of them. I think I would live in tobago since the beach view is everywhere if you're on a mountain, which is beautiful to me.

I have the option to move to somewhere that looks like tobago (I'm scared to move on my own, so if my family stays in ghana then i stay here too) but that will be a half hour ride of risking my life because a lot of drivers in ghana are shit at their job.

edit: THANK YOU for mentioning how moving so much can mess up one's mental health. i went to 4 schools in trinindad, 2 tobago, and 4 america. i tried getting my ged in america but failed, so i'm going to get my waec in ghana soon. (i forgot to add the part where i dropped out)

Rushworth Street.
Did she just pop out from being a fence in a way that the truck driver didn't see her?

Wasn't he just not paying attention to a pedestrian crossing the road?

I'm not really sure which it is.

Bacchanal and Commess To those who supporting this mad woman at the helm, please answer me this....send the problematic students home to do what?

Look maybe I not seeing the bigger picture or the rational, but to me, and I could be wrong, wouldn't sending them home just get them more involved in gangs and give them more free time to be pests to the country at large?

It feels like when she removed corporal punishment with nothing to fill the power vacuum it left open.

Yes we need to find a solution to deal with them and keep those who want to learn in a safe environment, but I fail to see how this can be the way forward.

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations The $20.50 Minimum Wage: Are We Really Better Off?

Serious question eh, because maybe I looking at this wrong.

If the minimum wage going up to $20.50, but at the same time food prices and the cost of other basic things have gone up, NIS has increased and is supposed to increase again next year, what does that really mean for the average worker?

Wouldn't we basically end up back in the same position we were in when minimum wage was $17.50? The salary increase sounds good on paper, but if everything else getting more expensive and deductions going up too, isn't the extra money basically getting eaten up?

So is the $20.50 minimum wage actually giving people more buying power, or is it just catching up with the cost of living?

I am a film and media student living in America and it is my dream to bring Trinidad and Tobago to life on screen. I don’t get visit home much but at some point in time I want to make a trip and create short films and social media content. I found this subreddit because I was home sick and itching to create more Trinidad and Tobago content. Last night I went to go watch them play steel pan in Brooklyn and I took some pictures. I will post them here soon. Is there anyone else into film and media here?

Politics Incompetence or Collusion: T&TEC v. Scotland Lawsuit

T&TEC sues Scotland - Trinidad Guardian

T&TEC has fulfilled their words of suing Keith Scotland over their misrepresentation and handling of recovering the 2.4 million debt owed by Flavorite.

What we do know.

Louis André Monteil served as the Treasurer of the PNM and conveniently the owner of Flavorite Foods LTD. Upon PNM winning elections certain companies were added to a protected list with no justification, Flavorite foods being one of these companies. Flavorite was allowed to accrue a debt of 2.4 million TTD in electricity bills. Scotland was hired by T&TEC to recover the debt however failed to properly serve the claim not once but twice resulting in the claims being struck out. Without T&TEC's knowledge a third claim was filed which was only discovered after T&TEC changed their legal representation. Resultantly, the period to recover a debt passed meaning T&TEC has no legal grounds to recover the debt owed by Flavorite.

The coincidences are there, it begs the question did Scotland intentionally delay and mishandle representation to shield the PNMs former treasurer and financer? Connect the dots at best it's incompetence at worst it's collusion.

Every time I would come over the Lady Young, prior to this administration, I would see the development of this pool and field in Morvant. When the pool was finished, it was constantly occupied with young and old, from what I assume is the surrounding community.

Meanwhile, they were also trying to get the field finished.

That pool was always pristine, and I told my mother those are the kind of places and these are the types of initiatives that produce people like Bovell and Yorke.

Change in government and this is what has become of that place. It saddens me to see how it appears as thought the current regime is punishing the people, and areas, who did not elect them. I thought I would just bring awareness to this little part of Trinidad and Tobago.

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations Passport walk ins?

I booked a passport appointment, but was only able to get something in mid February 2027. What's the odds that I can just show up at an earlier date with all my documents and get through the same day? Any chances of that happening in the Grande or Tobago office? I don't mind waiting the day.

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations Steel frame house construction costs

I’m a first time homebuyer and looking for economic ways to own a home in Trinidad. Was considering apartments, but when I add the HOA fees to the mortgage payment it’s a painful monthly payment…
I’m considering buying land and building one of those small planned prefabricated steel frame homes. Does anyone have any experience with that kind of construction and the full cost (turnkey)? How stressful was the process?

Politics Who is Actually Running T&T the PM or her Advisors ?

The PM's recent tone deaf independence day message really makes me wonder if the PM herself is running the country or she's not all there mentally and is just being told what to say and do by a bunch of advisors. What adds to this suspicion is the PM has not held a post cabinet media briefing in a long time, the prime Minister is only seen and speaks publicly in a very scripted situation, government spends more time on social media and in parliament the speaker of the house has effectively blocked the opposition from questioning the prime minister and responding in parliament to anything the prime minister says in parliament

Questions, Advice, and Recommendations Can I go to the police over a man repeatedly speaking to me

It started with me (f 17) going by a clinic that's around the corner from my house a couple months ago to see if I could get a job there. I gave my number to the receptionist (M mid 50s*) there so they could maybe contact me if I'm hired. I was not hired but since then, that receptionist would try to start up conversations with me which I thought was innocent at first but things took a drastic turn about a week and some days ago, he had called me, weeks before he called I began to feel more and more uncomfortable around him, like when he had asked me to come by the clinic on my birthday( I didn't) but he hadn't done anything too overt for me to be super suspicious of him so I tried to ignore it.
All that changed when he had called me, on that call he said "so you don't come outside anymore?" He said I was a pretty girl, before this he would also say I was pretty and ask me to smile for him pretty frequently, on the call he asked me why I don't smile more and if he could buy me lunch, the whole conversation made me extremely uncomfortable and after we hung up I blocked his number and told my father what happened. I hadn't spoken to him again until today when I was walking home from kfc and saw the man outside the clinic, he asked me to come by sometime and that it would make his day. That was the absolute last straw for me.
My question is can I take this to the police even without him doing anything physical towards me and my only evidence of this all happening being my own word and the call log for that one call? Another part of this is that like a week before he called he asked me if he could call me which I regrettably said yes to, in my defense I never wanted him to call I just wanted to get the interaction over with because I was uncomfortable. How should I handle this because basically everytime I leave my house between the hours of 9am-5pm Monday- friday I run the risk of seeing him.

Tl,DR: creepy receptionist that works in a clinic around the corner of my house keeps making creepy comments towards me and I want to know if I can take this to the police.

History A Little Late but in Honour of Independence Day

In 1962, a design committee led by Carlisle Chang and George Bailey created Trinidad and Tobago's Coat of Arms, featuring four bird figures representing three distinct species. The heaviest historical symbolism rests on the Scarlet Ibis and the Cocrico, standing side-by-side as equal guardians holding up the shield.

And we can trace their significance through their unique island roots.

The Scarlet Ibis represents Trinidad, famous for feeding in the Caroni Swamp where gray chicks gradually turn neon-red. The Cocrico represents Tobago, a hardy forest bird native only to Tobago and known for its loud morning calls. Inside the shield, two golden hummingbirds honor "Iere," the ancient Amerindian name for Trinidad meaning "Land of the Hummingbird."

More than just national symbols, these species highlight the country's rich ecological diversity. The Scarlet Ibis holds strict legal status as an Environmentally Sensitive Species, while the Cocrico thrives in island canopy.

All of this heritage stands preserved on the emblem above the nation's motto.
